For his record-breaking performance against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14, Brandon Marshall will be named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. It is the second time in his career he has earned the award.

His 21 receptions set a new NFL single-game mark, and gave him 86 on the year. Marshall set another NFL record in the game, recording the most 10-plus-catch games — eight — in a player’s first four seasons in NFL history.

He now owns two of the top four single-game receiving totals in league history — he caught 18 passes in last season’s home opener against San Diego. He also earned the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award after that performance.

His 21 catches against the Colts went for 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns, upping his season totals to 1,008 and 9, respectively. This is Marshall’s third consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season.

Marshall’s award represents the fifth time a Broncos player has won the weekly honor this season, joining Champ Bailey, Kyle Orton, Eddie Royal and Matt Prater.

This week, the Oakland Raiders head to INVESCO Field at Mile High. Earlier this season, Marshall caught five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown against the division rival.

In just their third year in the NFL, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall have made their mark upon the league.

Cutler and Marshall will represent the Denver Broncos in the Pro Bowl.

It began with fan voters who made them two of the top vote getters, and now it is official after players and coaches around the league have voted.

It marks the first time for both players at the annual all-star game, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 2:30 p.m. MST and will be televised by NBC.

Clady, Cutler Up for Awards

December 9th, 2008 - 11:08am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

Another big win for the Broncos, another round of award nominations.

Ryan Clady is up for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week while the quarterback he protects, Jay Cutler, is up for Fed Ex Air Player of the Week.

Clady led an offensive line that allowed QB Jay Cutler to pass for 286 yards and two touchdowns, prevented Kansas City from recording a sack and helped Denver total 139 yards rushing in the Broncos’ 24-17 win over the Chiefs. Though this is the first time Clady has been nominated, he is the fourth Bronco to be up for the award after Peyton Hillis, Spencer Larsen and Eddie Royal have all been nominated and won.

No other team in the league has had more than one rookie win the award — the Broncos have three and now potentially four.

Titans running back Chris Johnson, Texans running back Steve Slaton, Cardinals cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart are the other rookies up for the honor.

Cutler completed 32 of 40 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos’ 24-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Cutler has already won this award twice in 2008, most recently after the Broncos’ win over the Jets.

Prater Named AFC Special Teams P.O.W.

Another award is coming the Broncos’ way.

The NFL announced on Tuesday that Matt Prater will be named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5.

Prater’s selection as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week marks the first such award of his two-year NFL career.

During the Broncos’ 16-13 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Prater made all three field goal attempts — a 55-yarder, a 40-yarder and a 27-yarder — and his lone extra point try, racking up 10 points for the team. He also recorded touchbacks on four-of-five kickoffs. His 55-yarder in the second quarter was the longest field goal in the NFL for Week 5 and tied for the fifth-longest field goal in Broncos history.

Prater’s four touchbacks also led the NFL for the week, and he averaged 69.4 yards on his five kickoffs. He is tied for the NFL lead with 11 touchbacks on kickoffs this season.

Prater is the first Bronco to be named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week since punt returner Glenn Martinez earned that award in Week 11 of the 2007 season. His selection marks the 18th time a Broncos player has received AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1993.

Marshall AFC Offensive Player of the Week

September 16th, 2008 - 5:26pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

On Tuesday the NFL informed the Broncos that Brandon Marshall will be named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, two days after he played an integral role in the Broncos’ 39-38 victory over the Chargers.

It’s the first time he’s received the award in his three-year career.

In his first game back from a one-game suspension, Marshall caught 18 passes — a new Broncos single-game franchise record — for 166 yards and a touchdown.

The 18 catches were double the amount of any other receiver in Week 2, and also tied for second-most in NFL history behind only Terrell Owens, who had 20 catches in a game in 2000.

In his last five games dating back to 2007, Marshall has posted the most catches in NFL history for any five-game period with 55 receptions for 577 yards and four touchdowns.

Several Broncos have been honored in the past two weeks — Head Coach Mike Shanahan is also nominated for the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week award for Week 2, and Jay Cutler has been nominated for the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week in both weeks of the season thus far. Eddie Royal was voted the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 1, as well.

With the impressive way the Broncos have gotten to 2-0, it’s no coincidence the awards seem to be a recurring theme.
