Tentative Draft Order

March 31st, 2011 - 12:55pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The NFL just released the tentative round-by-round order for the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Broncos hold seven picks, which are as follows:

Round 1, Pick 2 (2)
Round 2, Pick 4 (36)
Round 2, Pick 14 (46) (from Miami)
Round 3, Pick 3 (67)
Round 6, Pick 21 (186) (from Philadelphia through Detroit)
Round 6, Pick 24 (189) (from New Orleans through New England)
Round 7, Pick 46 (247) (compensatory selection)

Previously, the Broncos’ seventh-round pick was slated at 246th overall, but the second pick of the seventh round, which was previously announced as being forfeited by Detroit, has been reinstated upon appeal, and Detroit will instead forfeit a selection in next year’s draft.

That pushed back Denver’s final selection by one slot.

Watching the Mocks: March 18

March 18th, 2011 - 2:13pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

It’s been more than a month since the last Watching the Mocks, and plenty more voices have chimed in.

From NFL.com, Charley Casserly, Michael Lombardi, Bucky Brooks and Pat Kirwan each have the Broncos selecting Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus with the second overall pick.

Their peer at the network, Steve Wyche, predicts the pick will be Clemson defensive lineman Da’Quan Bowers.

Another NFL Network writer, Albert Breer, enlisted the help of a college scout from the AFC for his mock draft. Breer (via the scout) sees LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson headed to Denver.

There haven’t been many changes atop the mock draft boards since we first Watched the Mocks on Jan. 21, and checked back in on Jan. 28.

Several updated mocks have popped up, including Todd McShay’s for ESPN.com, Peter Schrager’s for FoxSports.com, and Rob Rang and Chad Reuter’s for CBSSports.com.

All four stuck with their original picks from the first batch of mock drafts.

Watching the Mocks: Jan. 28

January 28th, 2011 - 2:05pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Not many updates from the first edition of Watching the Mocks, but Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks has chimed in with his prediction for the Broncos’ No. 2 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft — Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers.

“If the Broncos switch to a 4-3 defense as expected under new coordinator Dennis Allen, Bowers would be an ideal fit as the best pure pass-rushing end in this year’s draft class,” Banks writes. “With a healthy Elvis Dumervil presumably headed back to defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, Denver’s 32-ranked sack total of 2010 would get a major boost. LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson is another strong option if the Broncos decide a replacement for Champ Bailey is in order.”
