New faces in the House

March 8th, 2009 - 3:59pm by mark_cooperOther posts by mark_cooper

$39.52 Million worth of new faces.

Goodman
Dawkins
JJ Arrington
Buchalter
Gaffney
Hill
Reid
Simms
Paxton
Fields
Davis
Jordan

I’ll need to do some research on most of these guys, but I know I can count on you all to help fill me in.

Monodono, I saw the article on Simms but wasn’t sure what you were looking at in it. I’m not a Simms fan because his Dad kept me from a Superbowl ring :o). Just kidding, he’ll make a nice addition to the team. Now Simms’ fishing gear and accessories… some of the best stuff out there along with Scientific Angler and GLoomis rods. Couldn’t resist, sorry. You know how I like to flyfish.

O.K. I’ll stop being self serving……..nah.

I’m really curious what you all know about the $39+M dollar guys we just signed. Curious on your take other than maybe Dawkins, Arrington and Paxton.

Love to hear what your opinions are.

Free Agency Update

March 5th, 2009 - 12:50pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

Things have definitely slowed down since the first couple of days of free agency, but there are still plenty of players joining new teams or re-signing with their old ones.

But first, let’s recap what the Broncos have done. The team has signed 10 free agents thus far, beginning with the All-Pro Brian Dawkins. Next came Correll Buckhalter, Jabar Gaffney and Lonie Paxton. A day after that saw Andra Davis, Renaldo Hill and Darrell Reid come to Denver. Tuesday brought Andre’ Goodman and Ronnie Fields, and yesterday the team signed LaMont Jordan.

Now, onto the rest of the NFL.

Most recently, the big news is that the Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens. What do y’all think about this move by team owner Jerry Jones?

Yesterday, the Ravens and Ray Lewis were able to reach a deal that will keep the All-Pro linebacker in Baltimore. They also added former Vikings Pro Bowl center Matt Birk.

After testing the free agent market and talking with the 49ers, Kurt Warner has signed a two-year deal to return to the Arizona Cardinals.

Free Agency Frenzy!

March 5th, 2009 - 1:42am by Romi BeanOther posts by Romi Bean

Hello Broncos Country! Oh my goodness, how exciting has free agency been?! There have been so many interesting trades, and I think Coach McDaniels and the Broncos organization have been doing an awesome job! McDaniels is really getting down to business and making this offseason count! Free Agency officially started on February 27, and from about the first minute, the Broncos started making big plays.

Let’s start off with a rundown of who we’ve acquired so far. I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I lose track of all the new signings, because there is just so much news coming from every team! So let’s start from the beginning! Our first acquisition was Brian Dawkins from the Philadelphia Eagles, who signed a 2-year contract. Dawkins is a powerhouse safety and has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times – this is just what our defense needs! The day after signing Dawkins, the Broncos added three more unrestricted free-agents to the roster: Correll Buckhalter, Jabar Gaffney, and Lonie Paxton. Buckhalter is a running back, who also comes from the Philadelphia Eagles. Gaffney is a wide receiver from the New England Patriots, and Paxton is a long snapper, also from the Patriots (so I’m guessing Coach knows a few secrets about these two!!)

2009 NFL Draft Order

March 4th, 2009 - 10:54am by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

Over the weekend with all the free agency happenings, a number of y’all asked about the Broncos’ 2009 draft selections.

I now have an updated full round-by-round order of the 2009 NFL Draft.

As most already know, the Broncos hold the 12th overall selection in the draft, but they also have eight more picks as of now.

Their next selection will be the 48th overall, 15th in the second round. The third pick is the 79th overall selection, which is the 15th in the third round.

They pick 14th in the fourth round, and then things get interesting. They have two picks in the fifth round, beginning with the fourth selection which they acquired from Seattle by trading wide receiver Keary Colbert. Then the team has the 13th pick in the fifth round.

The Broncos have just one pick again in the sixth round, the 12th. And again in the seventh round, they have two picks. The first comes in 16th position and the last in 26th, acquired by trading Domonique Foxworth to the Falcons.

This is the most up-to-date list, however it very likely could change. The NFL has not determined compensatory picks yet, which will be awarded to teams at the bottom of rounds 3-7. Once the compensatory picks are announced, we’ll have an updated draft order.

Dawkins Press Conference Live Blog

February 28th, 2009 - 2:15pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

1:15 p.m. MST: We’re 15 minutes away from the start of the press conference, and the media is starting to trickle in.

1:21 p.m. MST: We’ve got some print reporters filing into the team room and more video cameras being set up in the back.

Right now we’re just testing to make sure all the audio/video equipment is working, and pretty soon we’ll be listening to Dawkins.

1:31 p.m. MST: We should be just a few minutes away, as the press conference was scheduled to begin now. There are more reporters and Broncos staff members in the team room now.

1:34 p.m. MST: Members of the Dawkins family have entered the room and sat down up front, so I expect we’ll start any minute.

1:36 p.m. MST: And we will apologize in advance. All the traffic on the site has slowed things down, but I’ll get all the information to you from the press conference as quickly as I can.

Dawkins has entered the room and taken the podium.

1:36 p.m. MST: Head Coach Josh McDaniels is at the podium, introducing Dawkins.

“Brian Dawkins is a special, special person and an even better player.”

“One of the things I realized once free agency opened is he’s exactly what the Denver Broncos are looking for. He’s dedicated and serious about the game,” McDaniels said. “He wants to come to a place where he can win. It’s our priveledge to add him as the newest Denver Bronco. He’s going to provide us with great leadership, great attitude.”

1:39 p.m. MST: Dawkins has taken the podium, and McDaniels has presented him with an orange No. 20 Broncos jersey.

Free Agency Day 2

February 28th, 2009 - 11:05am by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

10:05 a.m. MST: As is often the case, the first day of free agency was pretty hectic with a lot of signings all around the league.

Things could slow down a little bit today, but you never know. It does seem pretty quiet out there right now though.

It was great to see everyone getting so involved on the blog yesterday, and as more moves are announced today, please keep commenting and posing questions.

As for us here at Dove Valley, there’s no official news from the team yet, but we are picking up on some chatter that we might be hearing something soon. If and when that happens, we’ll let you know.

10:11 a.m. MST: Looking through the NFL’s free agent tracker, it looks like at least one move has gone through since last night. Tight end Sean McHugh has re-signed with the Steelers.

Jones and Polumbus Back in School

February 17th, 2009 - 7:31pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

95 players have enrolled in the NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program, and among those 95 are two Broncos — Herana-Daze Jones and Tyler Polumbus.

The program works with four prestigious universities — the Harvard Business School, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania — as part of an ongoing NFL-NFLPA initiative to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers. Since the program’s 2005 inception, 407 players have participated in sessions at the four business schools.

Surgery a Success

November 21st, 2008 - 8:07am by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

So I had my surgery yesterday. I did everything they asked me to in terms of my prehab, just doing some quad exercises and trying to keep the leg strong, working with Greek a little bit and always icing it.

Yesterday everything went well, as far as I can tell. I feel good. My leg’s still kind of numb, so I’m just taking a lot of antibiotics and pain killers. I’m just trying to heal up. Right now I’m just groggy and tired, so forgive me if this blog is a little short.

The plan now is to rehab at the hospital for like 10 days, just some light rehab. I’ll stay laid up, keep some ice on the knee and that’s pretty much it. I do get to travel back and forth to home, which is good, I just go back to the hospital for the rehab every day.

I just want to say to everyone showing me support: Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, and you know I’ll be back next year, ready to get going in a hurry.
