Re-Energized and Ready

October 26th, 2012 - 7:30am by Eric Decker

Over the bye week I got away. Like I said last week, I wanted to get some R&R. I got some massage work, went to the beach one day, just kind of enjoyed that time off with friends and family.

I definitely feel re-energized, feel mentally ready to get after it for the second half of the season and finish strong.

We’ve got New Orleans this Sunday, and their record doesn’t tell how good a team they are. They’re very explosive offensively. It’s something where we’ve got to match their intensity coming in. Obviously they want to make the playoffs and this is a big game for them. It’s a big game for us, too. We know what’s at stake. We know what we’ve got to do to give ourselves a chance to win.

As far as their record and all the stats, it doesn’t mean much, because on Sunday you’ve got to show up. It depends on how you play. We know we control how we play. Our focus is to kind of set the tempo, start the game fast and get better in some of the areas we’ve been struggling through the first six weeks.

With the bye week behind us, we’ve got 10 straight games left in the regular season. But our mentality has always been one game at a time. So our focus is on New Orleans, then on to the next and so on. We just know that we’ve got to give ourselves a chance to win every game if we want to make this year special. That’s our goal. Do the little things right in practice, have fun on game day and let things take care of themselves.

Catch up with you next week.

Awesome picture of Decker…here’s to hoping him and Thomas have multiple TD’s this Sunday. When we get into the red zone, I believe we should do the same screen pass to Thomas like we did with Decker last game. Good chance to score on that play imo.

broncosfreak718: I agree with your last post on the previous blog. I’d like to see Hillman get more carries. I was actually excited to see Mario Fannin this season but he’s been in the league two seasons and has missed both with injuries.

  3. broncosfreak718 says:

    Brian..

Yea he has a lot of promise if he could ever stay healthy. But with two serious injuries like he’s had, I don’t believe he’ll ever be a major contributor in the NFL unfortunately. Hope he can, but don’t see it happening. Hillman is a huge mismatch against linebackers. All the analysts said that they think he has the best vision out of all the RB’s out of this past years draft and I agree. I believe that if we can make him into a major contributor, it would have to make defenses start playing up more and would give more room downfield for our receivers. Just my two cents..

  4. broncosfreak718 says:

And about Holliday, I would try to give him 2 throws or something a game for like screen purposes…he could be deadly with those with how good our receivers are at blocking. Decker and Thomas’s blocking ability is outstanding thanks to last year :)

  5. broncosfreak718 says:

And don’t know if anyone plays Madden but I play a good bit and played yesterday and they have Holliday’s speed at 97. He is a lighting bolt!!!

  6. brian_schneider says:

Is Holliday on the Broncos roster with the latest roster update for Madden?

  7. broncosfreak718 says:

Yes. I put him in as PR and KR. He is ranked like 93-95 as a returner and his speed is a 97. I used him yesterday and it was insane how fast he is. I’m going to incorporate him into my passing game today when I get off work.

  8. broncosfreak718 says:

Do you have Madden on ps3 or xbox? If xbox, do you have xbox live and if so what is your gamertag??

  9. brian_schneider says:

Xbox, I don’t have an Xbox Live membership. My gamertag is BRschneider.

  10. broncosfreak718 says:

Oh, was going to say if you have Xbox Live we could play together. My gamertag is broncosfreak7 if you ever get a membership!

  11. Tracey says:

Great outlook! Can’t wait for this weeks game!

  12. broncosfreak718 says:

The matchup to watch will be with Thomas and Decker against the Saints corners. None of the saints corners, with the exception of one whom is a rookie and isn’t a starter, are listed 6 ft or taller. All of them are 5’11 or shorter. Decker and Thomas are both at 6’3 give or take and should be great at going over the top. I expect them to be targeted many times on Sunday night!

  13. Chris Valdez says:

We will be fine. All we got do is play broncos football and we will be hard to beat

  14. brian_schneider says:

I’m more concerned than I was against the Chargers. Rivers, for as much as I dislike him, his a great QB. Brees, well..in my opinion, is an elite QB. Brees won’t fall apart like Rivers did and just because he doesn’t run often he’s a very mobile QB, more mobile that Rivers IMO. So I could see us losing the battle if we let Brees shred our secondary. He has the capability to do so. We just can’t get in a hole early!!

  15. gabeharter says:

Advice …. if you are undecided in who to vote for… listen to John Elway. The dude makes good decisions… check his resume.

Former Denver Broncos Quarterback and current executive vice president of football operations for the Broncos, John Elway has endorsed Mitt Romney:

“Governor Romney is a proven leader with the experience and background to turn around our struggling economy,” Elway said in a statement. “In these tough economic times, we need a president who understands how to get America working again – by standing on the side of taxpayers and small-business owners who do the real job creating. I am endorsing Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan for President and Vice President because I know having the courage to make decisions and tackle challenges is what leads to results and real change. America needs a comeback team – Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are that team.”

  16. gabeharter says:

Go BronCos. Let’s Play all Out and get a W over the siants! i count this as on eof our most difficult games left regardless of their record. Brees is a major threat. I think our D-line and defense overall will determine this game. if we keep them below 30 points i smell a W!

  17. brian_schneider says:

Advice… If you’re undecided who to vote for… don’t listen to John Elway.

Go out and do your own due diligence as a United States citizen and research the presidential candidates. Find out what their positions are on particular political and ethical issues that interest you. Find the past debates and listen to what each candidate provided for responses to the questions. Look at each candidates accomplishments and short comings. How do they handle themselves as an individual. What about their life experiences, can you relate more to one than the other.

Do you homework and make a conscious decision. Remember this is a democratic nation where the people rule. There is no right or wrong when it comes to voting, even if hindsight is 20/20. If you’re going to vote for someone solely because someone with a lot of influence endorses them, well then you’ve given up your civic duty of voting rights and have become a pawn in a political chess match.

    Just my 2 cents.

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

Advice……just don’t bring politics to the blog…..simple. Just causes problems.

Anyways Porter has still yet to be cleared to play this Sunday night and that isn’t looking good. Jimmy Graham is questionable to the actually injury reports but hearing he is doubtful by analysts and people who are close to the Saints.

  19. HandofDOOM says:

Well, most peolpe Brian are too lazy to do the homework entailed with being able to vote. Most people beleive main stream media and are just as mindless as the puppets they are voting for. With that being said, I do a lot of homework. Agree with John Elway. I endorse John Elway endorsing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

  20. brian_schneider says:

I bet bring politics on the blog will be less of a problem then bring up Tim Tebow on the blog :-)

  21. CoachCasey says:

Thank you so much brian_schneider for that intelligent post. That was a well written reply without endorsing one candidate over another.

  22. RH709 says:

You should be more concerned. Denver’s struggles this year will always be against the top passing teams. Brees can carve up even an elite defense. What may be nice is N.O. doesn’t have much of a run threat and our defense is built to pin its ears back and rush the passer. What may be negative is Brees gets rid of the ball fast. He rarelly hangs onto it for more than 2.3 seconds and most NFL sacks don’t occur till 2.8-3.0 seconds.

What was nice about SD is they like slower, long developing plays and they use play action to freeze the defense long enough to let the play develope. A defense that can diagose the play action quickly has a good shot at getting to the QB in that situation. This is why Doom had a field day in the second half and was killing it on the last few drives.

N.O. isn’t like that. Don’t expect a lot of pressure this week unless it comes from a great blitzing scheme. Brees gets the ball out way to fast.

I am very nervous about N.O. but I do think Denver can make enough stops to win it. I don’t expect anything to stop the Denver Offense this week, expect all our offensive players to pad the stat sheets. It might even be the Hillman breakout game we have been waiting for.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Going politico on a sports blog, bummer.

And what a revelation, not only did Elway introduced Romney to the crowd at an event before the first debate in Denver but Obama’s socialist ideology is to take from the rich to redistribute to the poor, and the poor cannot afford to buy Bronco game tickets no matter what and only the rich corporate world can afford to buy the biggest money making luxury stadium suites. Yeah, if I were in Bronco upper management I’d vote for Romney too, LOL.

  24. Carsonic says:

Wow. Brian Schneider – that was awesome! I don’t think politics has any place in these blogs, and that’s the perfect advice for anyone thinking they need to start some sort of back-and-forth about the candidates and/or their parties.

This is a football site and Broncos football is what brings us together. Let’s not start injecting something like politics that might easily and quickly tear us apart.

Finally, I just want to say I sure hope that at this week’s practices, the team felt that same kind of rhythm and in sync-ness that they had at the end of the Chargers game. It would suck to see them come out stumbling again. And I agree with those who are looking forward to seeing the speed and explosiveness of Holliday and Hillman – I can’t wait for those 2 to bust out! Man, I’m looking forward to this game.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  25. HandofDOOM says:

Yea I know… the most important thing in your life inconveinces poeple.. Better ignore it and it might go away like all your other problems too right?

  26. HandofDOOM says:

Anyways…. I hope we can really beat the Saints. Kinda sux they were handing out free games in the beginning and are now playing like their old selves. Boy, that Peyton Manning character sure can throw a ball. Golly, I love our defense..WOOOO

  27. brian_schneider says:

I’ll take the advice of alaskanbronco06 and refrain from bring up politics. Just respectively replying to a post, since I’m sure there are undecided voters on here. I’m off my political soap box for good on here.

RH709 I am concerned about Brees and Co. I do think we have a better chance since they don’t run the no huddle like NE does. so hopefully we won’t get stuck in a dime package trying to stop the run. Our secondary is going to need to play well against Brees though. He’ll make you pay for any little mistake. Two elite QBs going at it should be a good game.

  28. HandofDOOM says:

oh… and don’t forget to VOTE….. for your favorite Broncos on the Pro Bowl voting. VOTE like there is no tommorow.

  29. RH709 says:

Brian is correct. Do your own work. Personally I think the debates are mostly senseless since it isn’t about what your position truely is but more about what the crowd wants to hear.

I have always hated campaigns like “vote or die” because they have always encouraged voting but have not told people to educate themselve before voting. This creates leagions of people who will mindlessly vote just to say they did. That does not help this country.

The informed need to vote, not the uninformed. There is nothing wrong with not voting, infact I praise those who decided not to vote because they didn’t know enough about the issues or the candidates. If you don’t know what prop this or that is, then don’t vote on it either way.

Also, please don’t fall for the lesser of the two evils thing or the “if I don’t vote for one of them then I wasted my vote” argument. The only wasted vote is the one you made for a candidate you didn’t fully believe in. It doesn’t have to be someone from one of the two parties. I am not saying this to encourage you to vote for a third party but because I want people to know that voting who you actually believe in is not a waste just because that person isn’t the “popular” choice.

  30. brian_schneider says:

There is no tomorrow….it is always today. So why do today what you can put off until tomorrow….because what is today but yesterday’s tomorrow.

Sorry, just no drama this year so I haven’t gotten a chance to expresss my creative side with stories.

Seriously we all need to vote for our favorite Broncos. I voted for Colquitt :-|

  31. baylinorcrush says:

As far as your presidential vote, in Colorado you people are lucky, your vote is important and will make a difference since you are in a swing state this year. As far as me being in ultra conservative Texas I might as well fart in the wind if I voted for Obama, LMAO!

Our Electoral College system of voting renders more than two thirds of the votes useless in our country, it’s a gigantic shame.

  32. HandofDOOM says:

Actually if you look a t a lot of the Broncos stats up there on the Pro Bowl voting screen, A lot of Broncos are deserved of the the vote. Dumervil as 5 sacks and that isn’t league leading but he does have 4 Forced Fumbles. Von Miller is right in the sack lead hunt. Even the receivers both have great yards and td’s. Not leading the league in any but both have a good mix of the 2. Even Joel Dressen has 3 td’s this year. Go check out the stats… while your voting for Broncos!!

  33. broncosfreak718 says:

    Yea Hand..

Miller needs to step it up with a 3 sack game if he wants to be close to the lead…still has yet to record a 3 sack game or an interception.

  34. brian_schneider says:

I am happy with our TE aquisitions this offseason. Hopefully Julius Thomas can develope for us. Still wish we had Scheffler.

  35. brian_schneider says:

LBs usually get interceptions on tipped passes. Our interior D-line just doesn’t seem to get enough penetration and get their hands up to tip passes. In passing downs Miller is typically rushing the passer. It would be nice to see Miller get an INT.

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

Brian I know that you did not bring them up and was not responding to you. Was to the one who actually brought them up.

Anyways Manning brothers are 1 and 2 for the ESPN MVP watch

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/79248/mike-sandos-mvp-watch-60

  37. RH709 says:

You raise an interesting theory Bay. Say for instance you took a state like California which seems to always vote Dem, then you run a campaign telling all the Reb in a much smaller state that also always end up Dem to move to CA. Since the smaller state always ends up Den then you haven’t changed the outcome in that state, but if you do this with enough states and centralize enough Republicans to CA then you counld possible swing a state with a substantial amount of Electoral votes to end up Republican and totally change the outcome of the election. This could go the other way as well.

    It is an interesting idea.

  38. brian_schneider says:

I’m surprised that Schaub isn’t in the top 2 for MVP.

  39. alaskanbronco06 says:

Saints worry me. Sproiles will play and he is always someone to worry about even by himself. Brees Colston and Moore worry me of course. But Sproles has a good history vs Denver. Person who worries me the 2nd most is Graham. I hope he misses this game because we will have a very hard time covering him.

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

Man I didnt see it before but just did. Denver has had the toughest schedule till this point and now have the easiest.

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

A lot of players are undefeated coming off byes.

Manning 6-0 after bye since 2005

    Reid is 13-0 his career.

Matt Ryan is undefeated after byes as well.

Hopefully Mannings will go to 7-0 as for the other two one of them will have a loss after this week.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks but it wasn’t meant as a theory, just a simple fact, this year your vote for President basically matters in only 11 states, all others are encrusted either blue or red just by the sheer numbers and your presidential vote in those is basically worthless. This might be the greatest country in the world but with some reservations, LOL.

  43. baylinorcrush says:

    Anyway, GO BRONCOS!!!

  44. RH709 says:

I realize it wasn’t a theory but I had never considered such a thing as an election stratagy. I get that it would be almost impossible to execute such an idea but it is interesting that such a thing exists.

  45. MaineCrush says:

Go Broncos! GO DECKER!!! I need fantasy points!!! This is my first post, I just want to shout out to all of you main posters on this blog. I have been reading broncos country for a long time now, and really enjoy most of your posts.

I’m a new fan …I have been following the team for almost 2yrs now and I see you getting better every game. I’m.proud to be a Bronco fan!!!

  48. broncosfreak718 says:

    Welcome Maine!

  49. Miller_Time58 says:

I actually think we match up very well against the Saints. Think about what New Orleans’ strenght is. It’s throwing the ball down the field, which takes time for those deeps routes to develop. That give Wolfe, Von, and Doom plenty of time to reach Brees. Just need to make sure that we keep an eye on Sproles out of the backfield. As far as the Saints’ defense, well… I think we all know that they aren’t stopping Peyton.

  50. gabeharter says:

HAHA… Dang. i knew politics on a sports blog would be interesting… I agree 100% on checking every fact you can and not voting just because John Elway likes a canidate. I just happen to agree with him … based on my own research of both canidates. Let’s get out and Vote for our bronco players! Your vote Counts.. haha
