Who’s Number One?

July 6th, 2009 - 8:53am by mike_rice

I hope everyone has been enjoying a good summer. It is amazing to think the Fourth of July is behind us. The clock is ticking down towards the start of training camp.

What an off-season it has been for the Broncos. All of the organized team activities (OTA’s) wrapped up in June. Coach McDaniels remained positive throughout, which I expect to be one of his trademarks.

It is tough to say how well the Broncos progressed. Coach McDaniels says he likes the way team has been picking up the new systems. Ultimately, time will tell.

One major piece of the depth chart was put in place at the final June mini-camp when Coach McDaniels named Kyle Orton the starting quarterback heading into training camp, which begins at the end of the month.

I like the fact that there is a number one quarterback, even if it might change. In sports, we hear so much about the importance of players knowing their roles. As of now, Orton is the top guy and Simms is second. Remember, though, Coach said he expects the competition to be high throughout camp. Both guys want to play and believe they can be number one. I would expect both to battle hard through the pre-season.

Is Orton a better quarterback? I’m not sure anyone knows that right now, especially with both guys learning a new system. Coach McDaniels said Orton had a little better grasp on things (as of the last June mini-camp). Given that neither has played a snap for the Broncos yet, I have to take his word on that.

I do think that Orton has better talent around him than he did in Chicago. The Broncos’ offensive line is back and the running game should be healthier and better than it was a season ago. A good running game is a quarterback’s best friend.

Orton had the reputation in Chicago of being a guy who “managed the game.” To me that means he was good enough to not hurt his team most of the time but not necessarily good enough to put a team on his back. I’m not ready to say that about Orton. You can’t discount what a fresh start means, I think the Broncos’ offense will at least be pretty good (yes, we do have to see how the Brandon Marshall situation gets resolved) and I think Orton is smart and more than motivated to have a good year, if indeed he is the starter much of the season.

I also really like Chris Simms. When he was healthy in Tampa, he led the Bucs to the playoffs. Thankfully, I’m not sure what a ruptured spleen feels like but I can imagine it is a tough injury to bounce back from quickly.

Simms got buried in Tennessee and never had the chance to show what he can do. He seems to be athletic, possess a pretty strong arm and wants to compete for the job. Plus, he and Orton, from the outside, seem to genuinely get along well.

I know summer is in full swing. But it won’t be long before the battles begin at training camp. I’m ready.

What are your thoughts about Kyle Orton being the number one quarterback heading into training camp?

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Mike

You’re a funny guy, PhotoHoundAK. You are just in a huff because you were proven wrong. You contradicted yourself throughout your earlier post and then when someone (namely me) disagrees with you, you resort to name calling? What are you, 12? I don’t bash unless bashed 1st. So take your bandwagon attitude and name calling and blog with the Raider fans where you belong. We can “rah rah” all we want. We know stats, so stop acting like you have the only handle on what this team has done. You spout off nothing but vial bile about the Broncos and expect us to agree with you? I don’t think so. You say you support them then bash them with the same breath? Sounds like Jamie Dukes to me. Take your negatism and run with it, but don’t expect us to run with you. Your type of negatism is why you wouldn’t last a week in my dojo. Not to mention, the second you would have resorted to name calling, you would be on the mat. The second time, you’d not be in my class. It (negatism) carries with you in everything you do in your life. EVERYTHING. Whether it be the Broncos, the dailey job, or just your friends (if you have any left), whatever, it’s about attitude. Yours is poor.

Thanks for the perks, Ashley. I wish I was here sooner but the power went out in our neighborhood for 5 hours. Went to the casino with my dad to keep cool.

  3. 07elway says:

No problem at all Dave… I got your back like the great Broncos fan I am!! haha Hope you had fun with your dad (outside losing your power)! lol

    With faith…

  4. PhotoHoundAK says:

Hey Dave, you know nothing about me. From three posts you can decipher my whole life, eh? Well, from what I can tell you must be a 15 year old high school drop-out with no job. How’s that analysis? Relax and consider spending less time trying to pump up your own ego on the internet. Hang out more at the dojo and/or casino or mall with the rest of the drop-outs. Maybe Ashley can hold your hand and whisper positive reinforcement in your ear. Grow up kid. All I did was try to point out some of the issues no one was addressing (sorry, my bad…). You can’t even relent and agree that the Bear’s defense was the heart of their team and determined whether they won or lost. Just because I pointed out the obvious and said that Orton isn’t very good, that means that I’m sower and negative. Right.

  5. Dynamicdave says:

Listen, tough guy, you started off with the name calling so I really don’t care what you think. You’re posts have few followers so keep on ranting. You went off subject and when you didn’t like that we disagreed with you, you felt the only way to try and strengthed your position was to talk smack and get personal. You are a child and need to grow up. Talk to someone the way you just did to me. See how fast you end up broken. I dislike computer heroes. Go play on the Raider blogs with the rest of the “winners.”

  6. Torain ATV fan says:

    PhotoHoundAK,

I think we understand what you are feeling. Its just most of us on this site believe we should start worrying if losses start accumalating, not before a down is played. At least thats how I see it.

Now to whoever said we will face 8 man fronts, wow. I really hope that happens, because Marshall, Royal, Sheff, and Stokely would have a field day.

  7. Torain ATV fan says:

did you guys read the david brutton story. a player who feels he owes the Broncos. Now that is refreshing.

  8. 07elway says:

PhotoHoundAK, first off you’re barking up the wrong tree with Dave. Talk about not knowing anything about someone… you have no clue what he could do to you. I’d shut up around him if I were you.

Second, everybody knows the Bears have a great defense… DUH!!!! Tell us something we don’t know. And you have no room to talk smack about how our season will be… we haven’t even played 1 game as a new team!!! How in the world could you possibly KNOW what will happen? How could you possibly KNOW we’ll lose every game, be calling for McD and Orton to leave?? Have you seen the team play and the coach do his job yet? I don’t think so.

You need to grow up and start thinking OUTSIDE your negative world. Its pathetic.

    With faith…

  10. BroncoAussie says:

On Ashley…hehe that is so funny.

  11. Dynamicdave says:

Haven’t read that yet, Torain ATV fan. I’ll check it out. See Brutton is wanting to play for the team and honor. I love the POSITIVE stories (get that PhotohoundAK?).

  12. 07elway says:

I try Aussie, I try. LOL

  13. Dynamicdave says:

Sic ‘em Ashley. If PhotohoundAK saw your picture and put 2 & 2 together, he’d want to hold your hand too. (That’s a compliment).

  14. BroncoAussie says:

07elway you didn’t get the joke, florio’s_mom asked where we are and I said on ashley, see funny.

  15. 07elway says:

    lol, thanks Dave.

  16. marshisboss says:

hey i believe that photohoundak and alwayz 7 are more philly fans with nothing to do

  17. alwayz 7 says:

I just love the jibber-jabber. Fact remains A few others and myself our being negative because what has been going on this off-season has been nothing but. And please one of you guys, dynamic dave, 07elway or aussie, I would like to hear you guys post that we have seriously downgraded our QB and have not really fixed our D-line. That is not negative just reality. I’m not calling you guys out to start a smack-off and i’m not into name calling.

And no I’m not a philly fan. I love the Denver Broncos since ’87. I just don’t get how the walls could be crumbling around you and you could say no this is all good everything will be OK. That in itself is really hillarious to me. LOL

Some of you guys say “I’m staying positve because I’m a true fan” That must mean lions fans are better than us all. LOL

The truth is real fans cheer, root, scream and yes even BOO sometimes at their favorite teams performance, whether on the field or in the front office.

  18. Cdudbronc24 says:

always7, I see you’re point. I prefer looking at the cup of water half full rather than half empty. sure, you can look at the downs of this offseason, but I like to look at the ups. here’s how I look at it.

    quarterback: down
    running backs: up
wide recievers: up ( considering Marshall stays )
    tight ends: up
    Offensive line: same
    defensive line: down
    linebackers: up
    secondary: up

thats 5 ups and 2 downs. instead of nagging about the 2 downs I like to praise the 5 ups.

  19. BroncoAussie says:

Well said I agree with both of you there are pluses and minuses to the team but that happens, I know the QB is gone but hey I think Orton can do well, why not, give him a chance. If the team goes 0-8 then I will start ragging and saying it was a dumb move. But till then I won’t I would rather be happy then negative. Plus I don’t think that will happen there are some really talented guys on this team and we will surprise a few people underdogs all the way baby.

  20. 07elway says:

Aussie makes a good point. You haven’t even given this team a fighting chance… just because of Orton’s past with another team doesn’t mean he’ll remain the kind of QB for us. People change you know and they often change for the better. Orton has what it takes to progress with this team and that is the whole point… not to stay at mediocracy (hope you can understand the big words, wouldn’t want you to get confused!). Now that’s hilarious, LOL.

So you want me to show you that you’ve downgraded the team… you can’t say one positive thing about us – here’s the proof you asked for! Enjoy.

    alwayz 7 said:
“Kyle Orton will always be average at best.”
“Our only chance is if Nolan can install a defense that can rush the passer and force bad throws by the opposing team. Lord knows we don’t have the horses to do so, so it’s gotta be a great scheme that gets the job done. Again, not out of the question but very unlikely.”

You only give this team a chance because we have a great O-line and that’s all the credit you give them. Did you not hear we have Dawkins on our defense? Been living in a hole huh? Yeah our defense needs a major makeover from last season… the man in the moon knows that! But why is it so freakin’ hard for you to think positive. I mean Dawkins is a HUGE asset to our D… does that not mean anything to you? And if you’re about to tell me one person can’t make that big of a difference or impact… you seriously mistaken!! One person can make that big of a difference especially someone like Dawkins. Go to the following link and read about Dawkins, something you don’t know about him and you’ll find he’ll be probably one of the biggest impacts to ever be apart of the defense let alone this team. Dawkins is one of those people that has the natural talent to lead a team in the right direction. He can’t play for everyone else, he can only do his job. But he can certainly show positive reinforcement, something this team desperately needs, including you and all the doubters.

  21. Dynamicdave says:

alwayz 7, you’re entitled to your opinion and you’re right, we can agree to disagree without name calling, but why should I have to agree with yours? I agree that Orton isn’t Cutler, but then again, Cutler isn’t Orton. Cutler had a serious problem with forcing the ball. He felt that he could squeeze it in there everytime. When he should have thrown a touch pass, he drilled it. Incomplete…. He fixated on Marshall so much that even a 6 year old saw it coming. His eyes were glued to Marshall, while Graham is wide open up the middle. He did this several times. I truly believe that he would not fit in McD’s system becauase 1, he didn’t like McD and 2, he likes to shoot from the hip, like Farve. I say our D HAS improved. I ask you to explain where they downgraded from last year? Fields is going to be a better NT then you or anyone else will be willing to admit. Baker as a BU is sound. He can learn from Fields. Would you like Webster back? I think not. Davis is the man for the job. Ayers is a downgrade? I think not. From what I’ve read, he will be OLB and DE. Hybrid. Reid isn’t an upgrade??? McBean had great OTA’s. Peterson has stepped up for a starting position. I say Denver’s D HAS upgraded. Not arguing with you but don’t expect me to agree with you just because you feel your opinion is right or you don’t like my positive thoughts. Being positive is my style. It was that way in the ring, in the military, what I instilled into my students and what I live by in my everyday life. If I want negative in my life, I’ll get a wife (just kidding) or become a Raiders fan. I refuse to believe they don’t have the chance to do well, before a down is even played? Easy to say they’ll fail. Harder to be a fan and support them. Positive feelings, whether it be from the fans or elsewhere, spreads to the players. Do you think that they don’t listen to the talk? Sure they do. I have never, ever booed my own team. Do you think when you’re at the stadium and something goes wrong, that your booing is going to instill confidence to the player? Of course it won’t Negativity breeds negativity. If you hang out with crack heads, do you think you will be a positive person and successful? No, of course not. If you hang out with positive, successful people, do you think you have a better chance of staying upbeat and succeeding in life? Of course. You are what you eat. It’s not being unrealistic to remain postive,. If anything being negative is being unrealistic. I bet on the broncos, here in Vegas, usually start at $100 then move up as the season progresses. I do my homework. I study the players and the opposition. I llok at injuries. I look at matchups and who’s hot and who’s not. Even if as a player or as a team, I will cheer my team on. I will stay positive. It’s my nature. Doesn’t mean I don’t see when a team has problems. But I have seen nothing but improvement on this team. Yes, we lost Cutler, but I think he would have been a cancer on the team, due to his attitude over the Cassel thing, the Bates thing and even the Shanahan thing. Orton should be able to do what McD asks of him. Will he put up the Cutler #’s, no. But he won’t be playing Shanahan’s system or fixating on Marshall either, when you should have hit the TE or 2nd or 3rd receiver. Give him a chance, alwayz 7, before crucifying him. Same for the team as a whole. You just want to dwell on the bad and not the good. Like I said, I’m not geared that way. Neither is 07elway and some others on the site. If something is in question as to team talent, I say that before I say they are doomed to fail, I would rather let them play a down before labeling them as a failure.

  22. Dynamicdave says:

Sorry for the typos. I was in a hurry and didn’t bother to proof read or spell check.

  23. BroncoAussie says:

    What?

  24. alwayz 7 says:

Brian Dawkins has always been one of my favorite players in the league. It’s just too bad he has joined our team during his twilight. It’s not like he’s going to help us rush the passer. As far as fields or baker or reid, most everyone looks good in ota’s. Ask fans of the niners and colts and ask them if they think their going to miss them, not really. I admit the draft’s first 3 rounds got us some help and looks good. And as always, back to KO, a leopard doesn’t change his spots. He is an average QB and would be a back up on most teams. I know you guys are looking for bright spots but in most of these cases, in my opinion, your really reaching.

  25. alwayz 7 says:

So it’s obvious what my dislikes are. So now a few things I do like.

Resigning Casey Wiegman at center, Huge! Got a little more depth at WR. drafting Mckinley and signing Gaffney. Jabar is no reason to get too excited but as a 3rd or 4th option, he’s not that bad. Running back has been the biggest improvement. I love Buckhalter and Moreno. Lamont Jordan is a hard working player that is good for the roster but don’t expect much more than a goaline back at best. Hillis showed he can play in the league and last year I told everyone that he was a steal. Peyton still is a #3 running back and most of the carries will go to Moreno then Buckhalter. Hillis is a good emergency option.

Now to the defense. Not much but here it goes.

D-line, NOTHING. Thats right I don’t like a darn thing we did. Why is Jarvis Moss still on this team? With the exeption of Dumervill they are all underachievers. Too bad Elvis isn’t a secrect anymore and just cant’ beat double teams. LB’s I like the addition of Andra Davis but between him and Nate Webster I’m expecting about the same output. I love the way Woodyard plays and Ayers is a project but has huge upside. DB’s Well we have Champ and an old Dawkins. Brian will help in the run game but won’t do much in the pass game (remember Lynch?) Reynaldo Hill got abused last year and Goodman is a true nickel corner. The brightest thing about the D, Mike Nolan will inspire the guys with great enthusiasm.

  26. alwayz 7 says:

Also I forgot to mention. Orton will throw more interceptions than Cutler ever did. Their INT% is the same but Cutler has a lot more att’s. Sorry, Ortons garbage and Simms is just as bad. And why doesn’t anyone talk about how immobile Orton is? He is a statue in the pocket, nothing like Cutlers great sliding feet in the pocket. He has been sacked a whole bunch in his career. He holds on to the ball much too long and can’t move when the pressure is on. Don’t believe me? Just wait and see guys, just wait and see. Colt McCoy in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. Evil14u says:

WOW!!!! I love to read all these crazy post when people just go back and forth and not just move on, we all have opinions about if we improved or didn’t?? Last year I read the same stuff!! Yay!!! We got this guy and that guy and our D will improve, and OTAs this guy did this and so forth!! Nothing is proven untitl the season starts. Look, preseason will give us an idea of where we are. I predicted last year we’d go no better than 8-8, just from what I saw. I went to the sumer camps, watched all the preseason games, plus what we had, and knew we’d not do so good. Look, seeing our schedule, I can see us going 3-0 and everyone say SUPERBOWL!!!! We did that last year!! Our schedule is too tough for us to be thinking Superbowl. Now, my opinion, I agree we did nothing to upgrade our D line!! Now, I like Dawkins, but he played his ass off due to his contract coming up for renewal.. Now I see him as another Lynch, past his prime, and McD spent money on Hill, when we already had a promisin young Barrett, then he gets Brutton?? Reid, Fields and Davis, not much of an improvement, I’ve said this over and over in other post, all we picked up on our line was practice squad players!!!! We should have kept RObertson, and least the chemistry with him, Thomas and Peterson was already there and growing! Now, this post was to talk about whose Number 1 at QB!! Now, I’m not a big Orton fan, he was just out here at Peterson AFB, last week with Stoke and Rulon Jones signing autographs, so I give him some props for that!! AS I’ve been on this base since 2005 and no one else has come out when we requested. Wasn’t until Kuper came out last summer with some other players, then he brought the O-line, (minus Clady) last month to visit. Anhyways, back to the post, I really think if given the chance as I hope Mc D does, Brantstater will show he’s the better QB of them all!!! He has a Cutler like arm, strength and courage like ELway and can move in the pocket!!!
Simms is to light and Orton has no mobility, and if we lose Marshall and Shef, don’t forget, McD tried to trade him, and he drafted Quinn, Orton won’t have the targets Cutler had. Thanks to BM, Royal had a great rookies season on the opposite side!! I can see us going after Colt McCoy next year, after you all are callin’ for McD’s head!!!!

  28. vraptor567 says:

I guess the question was Chris or Kyle, tough call since this whole team has been rebuilt and we have not seen either of them take a snap, let alone face an aggressive defense. Both have qualities that could measure up when put to the test, and both have also shown some negatives. So at this point there is no way to really judge, the next few weeks should start to give us some idea, but only the first real games will tell. I hear Vegas list the Broncos as a 1:30 chance at making it to the superbowl, sure would be nice to see the team make the bookmakers eat their predictions.
    GO BRONCOS

  29. 07elway says:

alwayz 7 – you just don’t see the bigger picture. Maybe Orton did show in Chicago that all he was THERE was an average QB. But you haven’t seen him make one play for this team with a new coach and a new offense!! You have no clue what he’ll be like this season. You have no clue if he’ll be below average, stay average or better yet improve. But instead of looking at it your way through doubtful eyes and doubt what he could do with a whole new offense, I prefer to think he just might do better with our new coach, the offense he has to work with and the new offense McDenver is gonna be coaching, no longer a West Coast offense. So unless your some undercover secret Bronco agent you have no room to say that Orton will remain an average QB the way he was in Chicago.

The way some of us think is not over the top or “really reaching” like you put it but positive thoughts that maybe with a new coach and style of offense, Orton will shock people with what he can do. That’s why its best not to speak like you are before they’ve had a chance to play one down… the offense and defense you say you’re not impressed with just might shock you. I never said they absolutely will knock your socks off but they just might and I prefer to look at it in a way that is uplifting from last season. You can’t predict what Orton or what anyone else will do based solely on what they’ve done in the past… people do change and they can change for the better. And that is certainly possible since we haven’t seen these players and coaches work together like this before and we don’t know what to expect. You expect Orton to stay average or be worse in INTs based on what you’ve seen him do in the past. Push aside the doubts and with a new coach, WRs and RBs… he has the potential to do better and become a better QB. Don’t you want him to be a better QB if he’s gonna be the one orchestrating our offense?

Hold your tongue before you start making accusations about Orton’s ability to improve without seeing him play for us. I get the feeling you will be surprised. Now when they start falling and losing games that we should win and doing silly things… then go at them all you want.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  30. BroncoAussie says:

Orton can play give him a chance, but he is right about the D line, nothing over the top there.

  31. Dynamicdave says:

Evil14u, you need to read my article on Dawkins to see why he didn’t play well in 2007 and did in 2008 before forming an opinion. You’re are 100% off-base about him.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/211919-the-brian-dawkins-story-a-class-act

He still went to the Pro Bowl in 2008? Doesn’t sound like he’s past his prime to me?

Barrett needs someone to learn from. Hill is that person. Remember that Barrett came off the practice squad after playing poorly. He then picked up his game but needs another season or two under his belt.

What do you know about Fields? Not a lot from the sounds of it. Did you even bother to read up on him? He was the slated starter in San Fran. He broke his arm. They brought in another NT for a lot of money because they were uncertain as to how long Fields would be out. When he healed, he got stuck in the rotation. Nolan thought enough of him to bring him along, so excuse me and some others if we trust Nolans opinion of his ability then yours.

You spoke of PS players? Well, Barrett was a PS player. Yet you liked him? Double standard.

Kept Robertson? Are you serious? Why? Bad knees, never worked out a full practice and was never at 100% (not even close) because of it. Overpaid and underachieved. Robertson… Yeah, right.

Brandstater is a rookie. He is NOT ready yet. Give Orton a chance for Gods sake. This is for both you and alwayz7. Orton played with a poor line, WR’s who couldn’t get open, yet still had a winning record. Their D was ranked 21st, 30th against the pass, so don’t begin to start by saying his D cushioned his stats. That won’t work. He is with one of, if not the best QB coach in the league and will only get better. He has the best Oline in football blocking for him and great WR’s and a strong backfield. Moreno, Hillis, Torain (you guys forgot about him) and yes, BUCKHALTER. So he’s been injured? So has Torain, but I still think he can get it done. You guys go ahead into the season with your negative atitudes. Go ahead with that losing atmospere. But when Denver wins and proves you wrong, don’t come around saying you knew it all the time. I’m keeping a list in my email of all the naysayers who counted this team out before a down has even been played. That way I can come back and remind you of your thoughts about Denver, the team you say you support, but bash before they had a chance to play. Maybe we shouldn’t question your opinions? Maybe Dawkins only played hard last year like you said, just to get a big contract…… or maybe you know nothing of Brian Dawkins and the problems he went through in 2007? I think you need to do your homework a little bit more.

  32. Dynamicdave says:

vraptor567, I live in Vegas. Haven’t bet on them for the SB odds. I did bet $100 on them to win the Division, though.

  33. Crush Arizona says:

I think our D and offense has suffereed the last few years mostly from not so musc a lack of speed but INJURIES and I will say it again this is the Coaching staffs job and lets be real, Shannahan was dropping the ball and I for one was callin for his walking papers ever since the 05 debocle in the AFC championship, How the heck can you be that good and not even show up to play in the biggest game of the year??? two words…Poor Coaching.

  34. Crush Arizona says:

Coach Shannahan, thanks for everything U were great but just as u cut so many players because they were not getting it done, Dont feel bad because you got the Axe…You had to many fumbles and picks to be kept on.

  35. Dynamicdave says:

Yeah, Shanahans time had come. I’m personal stoked to see what the McD era can bring. Denver has a lot of talent. Lets see if they can gel.

  36. Cdudbronc24 says:

I still think we should’ve given Shanny a few more seasons. We had a very young offense with a lot of potential that we saw last season. the defense was young and learning and we had a lot of injuries which was a big part of the ludacris defense. I think he was in the process of building a super bowl contending team and we fired him. hopefully McDaniels will get it done.

  37. Dynamicdave says:

Great O, Doc, but not D. Bowlen asked Shanny to get rid of Slowick. He refused. Slowick stunk, Doc. You would have seen years of the same, a .500 club. Shanny had to go.

  38. Dr.Chris24 says:

Dave, but the D was getting their. our D went through a lot the last 3 years and lost almost all of our studs ( Wilson, Lynch, Dwill, Gold ). so the D went through a rebuilding process. we were one game away from making the playoffs. and if you ask me, with all the injuries we had last year we did pretty good. I think we were one pro bowl DE away from a good defense.if we had kept Shanny and signed a guy like Peppers, we would be a 12-4 team. we deeply lacked a pass rush and thats what caused all the terror for the defense.

  39. alwayz 7 says:

Hey guys I’m keeping a list as well. I’m not ashamed to say I was wrong if Orton tears it up and those no-names on defense ball it up this year. But if they don’t I don’t want to hear no excuses from you guys. I can almost hear you guys now, Oh they are still learning the system and blah blah blah. I give you my word if we win the division or if Orton makes the pro-bowl or if Matt Willis becomes a superstar LOL. I will admit I was wrong, I sincerely hope you guys are willing to do the same. If your gonna talk the talk you gotta walk the walk.

P.S. Are any of you guys going to the SD-DEN monday night game in SD?

Everyone just know why Orton didnt do better than what he did in Chicago. They have one of the worst Offensive lines in the NFL. You have to give you QB some time to breathe whenever hes back there about to make a pass. He has more patience than Cutler and will likely turn it over less. Trust me, he will do a great job here for us!!!

Plus, I keep seeing a few things worrying about how we will do against the Chargers this year. The only thing that they have that we didnt is the running game. That has completely turned around now. Moreno is going to run all over them just as LT has done to us in the previous years. Only difference is, Moreno is faster and more elusive than LT!!!

All i know is we are rid of Jay “cry baby” Cutler and we have a good QB in simms and orton either i will be happy with. Look at the team we have to give them. think about it even rex grossman would look some what ok in this team lol. Look at what they have a O line that is frickin awesome. A WR core that tops almost any teams. (hopefuly Pat Bowlen will give Brandon a new contract and make him happy, just with alot of clauses that will put his off-the-field crap on the must not do list) Also we have 2 or 3 running backs that would be starters on other teams. Hillis is great. Buckhalter is a great pick up. and we needed a goal line back and LaMont can def be that guy. Hope you all some what agree w/ me. lol i dont want my head to get chewed off!!! Go broncossss babyyy

I don’t understand why people fear the idea of KO being the QB? This guy started as a rookie for the Bears and led them into the playoffs. He had no time on the bench to learn how to run a play or read a complicated defense. Orton was thrown into the fire and told to win games and thats what he did. Granted, their were other players on the team that helped him win games. But who on that bears offense was better than the talent Orton has to play with now. If you remember last season Orton was being considered a MVP candidate before he got his ankle dinged up which affected his game the rest of the season. I’m not saying Orton is a great QB. He’s not in the superstar status. But this guys seems to go out and do what is asked of him and that has led to wins in the NFL. Before I go, one thing about McDaniels. Here’s a guy who trained a 6th round QB and made him into a superbowl winner. Not once, not twice, but 3 times, and the guy almost won a fourth. He then took a 7th round pick who’d never started a college game (never, I just read Cassel is the first QB in the history of the NFL to never start a game in college and start in the NFL. Don’t know how true that is but it can’t be that far off.) The point I’m making is don’t you think the guy knows a thing or two about coaching an NFL QB? When him and Bowlen discussed trading Cutler, don’t you think they talked about the QB that McD thought he could work with? Again, I’m not saying the Broncos are going to go undefeated (I hope the Chiefsa can beat them at least once) but there is a tremendous amount of bashing these two guys (McD and KO) and all these two have ever produced are winning teams. I guess it must be the year for the Broncos to get disrespected. Personally, think the Broncos schedule is tough but favorable to them. Example, if you had to play the Steelers, Giants, Cowboys, and Patriots all in the same season where would you want to play them? Why, in the thin mile-high air in Denver of course. The toughest games they’ll play this year are on the road against Philly, Indy, and Baltimore. Of course they’ll have tough games against their own division but they could win as many as 5 of those games. It’s very conceivable the Broncos could go 6-2 at home, 4-4 on the road and come away with a 10-6 record. And, personally, I’d take Haley or McDaniels over old Norv Turner. Norv coached washington for 7 years and brought them to one 10 win season. He won 9 games for the Raiders in the 2 years he coached there (understandable though, it is the Raiders after all). And when he took over the Chargers he had inherited a team that went 14-2 the previous season. In the last two seasons he has guided them to 11-5 and 8-8 seasons. Last season they were so bad it took a miracle 4win stretch at the end of the season to get them the division. That is Norv Turners proven track record as a head coach and it’s not really a good one. I don’t think Bowlen should have given up on Sanahan (who, personally, I didn’t like as a coach because his teams did have a tendency to fade toward the end of the season and he beat the Packers in a Super Bowl. But, I digress…) But if you were to choose a guy to take over a team with a great offensive philosophy, a team loaded with lots of offensive talent to work with, you pick up a very good DC in Mike Nolan and bring in veteran leadership like Dawkins and the DB’s the Broncos grabbed in FA to help solidify the major weakness on this ballclub (something Shanahan wanted to do this off season), I’m just missing the point as to why there isn’t more fear that the Broncos might be a real force to reckon with this year. Do you have any idea who called the plays when the Patriots went on that unbelievable 16-0 season? Oh yeah, that was McDaniels as well. I’m not really a Broncos fan. I like the Chiefs and Packers and of course hope Brett Favre has a great season in Minnesota. But I’m just looking at things logically and I don’t see why the Broncos shouldn’t be one of the teams to beat at the end of the season and it should be a heck of a game with them and Philly the second to last game of the season. I’d like to hear some real commentary as to where I’m wrong and give me some real analysis not just because you think KO sucks or this or that sucks. Thanks.
