Tim Tebow gets his shot.
When Tebow takes the field on Sunday, October 23 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, we’ll all start to get an idea of how good he might be, or might not be.
There are plenty of people who think Tebow will shine and that he has simply been an opportunity away from greatness.
Others think he will never be a great NFL quarterback.
I have no idea how all of this will turn out, either on the 23rd or over the long haul. I really don’t. And I don’t feel any need to offer a prediction.
On the one hand, if anyone has the makeup to be great, Tebow seems to be that person. His character, work ethic, leadership ability, desire and heart are all qualities which not every player has. In a sport like football, all of these characteristics can undoubtedly make a difference in any given game.
On the other hand, people who know football much better than I do have dissected seemingly every aspect of Tebow’s mechanics, acumen and performances to this point in his career. And many have come to the conclusion that Tebow will not amount to a great quarterback.
The debate has raged on.
I can understand the frustration of those who have wanted to see Tebow play sooner. I can understand the points made to support that position.
I can also understand those who are skeptical about the possibilities for Tebow to have long-term success. After all, the NFL is not college football. Success at the college level certainly doesn’t guarantee success in the NFL.
I find it much harder to understand why many of Tebow’s passionate believers have felt it necessary to label others who don’t share the belief that Tebow will definitely be great that they are somehow rooting against him to be so.
I hope Tim Tebow becomes a great NFL quarterback. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he does.
I have no idea if he will but I am really interested to find out.
At least now it is time for the talk to give way to play.
Thanks for reading,
Mike

Mike, I agree totally on what you had to say. Enough talk and speculation, lets find out. Looking back through the history of the NFL, many great QBs were dissected as being not good enough, not smart enough, not strong enough in the beginning of their careers. Many great QBs had to learn on the run to be great QBs. Until you put the player out there and let him show what he has, it is all speculation and opinion. This sort of prejudiced evaluation of talent has been going on in the NFL for years. It is interesting to me that the same guys who said Johhny Unitas, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Stauback, Steve Young and Warren Moon could never be NFL QBs were the ones who said Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russel and Vince Young were sure-fire, “can’t miss” prospects. Either they aren’t quite as good at evaluating talent as some think or the evaluation process itself is seriously flawed. Don’t evaluate, don’t guess, find out. Then and only then will we know for sure.
henryac…thanks for checking in. Appreciate it. It will be fun to see what happens. Mike
Too true Mike.
The problem with analyst is that they are so drunk on themselves that they start to believe what they say is fact. Just because u are on TV and used to play the game doesn’t mean u know the future. You are just another opinion … just a supposedly knowledgable opinion.
It disgusts me when people say TT can’t make in in this league like it is fact and has been decided … no body knows … i think he can … but thats just and opinion … only way to find out is to play the guy.
Success at the college level doesn’t mean success in the NFL but same can be said for obsqurity in college doesn’t mean bum in NFL … nobody knows … only to know is to give em a chance and see what happens.
I am glad TT got his chance … sink or swim … he got his chance … like Orton did once as a youngin and for like 7 past 7 years and Quinn did in Cleveland … the difference between them and TT is that they have had chances and not clicked … doesn’t mean they will never but now its TTs turn to get his chance. I think he can do it. But I may be very wrong … lets just watch and see.
Later Days TRB.
orangutanblue…I guess if I’m saying what you have already said and you think I’m on the fence…then I must be on there with you.
In the future, feel free to elaborate on your opinions. But I’d appreciate it if you didn’t presume to speak for me. I obviously wrote something that provoked a response from you…and I’m glad for that. If what you’re wanting is someone to rant and rave and spout off, there are plenty of other places to get that.
Sorry to disappoint…but I really don’t know how good Tebow will be and don’t feel a need to predict. I’ll say this, if I were a betting man, I wouldn’t bet against him.
1nOnlyTRB…you are so right…all of us simply have an opinion. I don’t pretend to think mine is more important than that of anyone else.
Mike
orangutanblue, you may want to go, but if the talent and depth are not there, you are not going very far! Right now, it isn’t there. Blame whoever you want for that, the end result is the same, it isn’t there. Even if TT walks on water and doesn’t even get his tennies wet, Denver will still be at best an average team at this point because of the loss of talent and the lack of depth. He will not suddenly turn this franchise around and take it to the Promise Land but he may be able to get it headed in the right direction if he plays well. Personally, I think he probably will. He has been successful at every level he has ever played at and there has been no indication that he can’t except for the personal opinions of a bunch of talking heads. Now, we can find out and then no more talking about it. The matter will be settled once and for all. But, he is just one player. Denver has a long way to go to climb back up to the level the fans are accustomed to and he will need a lot of help to get the team there if he is to be successful.
Well first off let me say hello, as this is the first time I will have made a post in any bronco blog. I have been so busy, and not able to get involved with these debates on tebow and my broncos, which I have grown to love since the 80′s, that is literally driving me nuts. In all my time, I have found that many people throughout history have been told, that they cannot succeed at one thing or another. Perception has nothing to do with fact. I don’t have any of the answers and will not make my first post about claiming to. Now that I have expressed that, let me say, that in Denver and outside of Denver, many people are claiming that Tebow will fail, while others are saying that he will triumpth. All I want to say, is lets think about this for one second from a rational point of view. In a fight is it the best person who wins, or the person who wants it the most? Football in a sense is a fight, and will to win sometimes exceeds the skill needed. Does that say that Tebow doesn’t need to work on his skills, absolutely not. Tebow is without a doubt going to have to work for everything he is given, but he has the passion to never quit. I have been to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, and around the world, and now work as a Police Officer. I live everyday trying to make changes in the world, instead of complaining about them. I have nothing but respect for Tebow, as I have had to face many challenges in my life where people claimed to know that I would not be able to do this or that, and honestly I don’t care what people think. I do what I do for me and my family and I believe I can do ANYTHING if I want to bad enough. Now this isn’t about me, so back to Tebow. Tebow only wants to complete his goals and I can assure you that he will do everything in his power to make it happen. In my mind I see Tebow being successful, because I am an optimist, (glass is half full) type of guy. Many people believe only what they can see, and that is fine. So Tebow will fail, or he will succeed, but in the end as a bronco, I only want what is best for the team, which in the state of being 1-4, that obviously is not it. I don’t proclaim to know what any of you on the blogs are like, and having been reading for years, considering I don’t like debating, but as I realized there is always time for a change, and as broncos we will be living that persona over the next few weeks (change). I look forward to reading your comments and posting with you guys here in the future, whether you agree with me or not. One last parting thought though, ROME wasn’t built in a day, and Tebow if he does prove to be great, up for debate obviously, because opinions vary, will not happen in just this season, patience is a virtue.
BB+BD=HF> (Better Broncos+Better Days=Happy Fans & Good Times)
Thanks for the post Mike……….
Like a lot of us have been saying on here………….it’s all about moving forward and answering questions.
With Orton, we knew what we were getting game in, game out. What we also had was an unknown factor standing on the sidelines.
Tebow gets his chance to show what he can do. And to me it’s not about the W’s and L’s, it’s about progression. Does he get better as the season goes along? Does his mechanics improve? Does he lead this team?
Will he be the starting QB for the Broncos next season? I have no idea and I’m not really too worried about it.
What makes me the happiest is to see this team starting to move forward and make this team better for future.
Unlike orangutanblue, I don’t really care about winning now at this point. Actually making the playoffs at this point would take a miracle………..and while I like Tebow, I don’t think he’s the saviour by any means and can’t perform miracles. (otherwise that ball would’ve been caught in the back of the endzone against SD lol)
Time to really evaluate the talent we have, and clean house where needed.
I had a win now attitude at the beginning of the season…………but now I’m happy to rebuild if it will bring more success down the road.
GO BRONCOS!
and welcome to the blog 4-EVA………..you’r now part of the best community in the world of sports!
4Eva-A-Bronco, Welcome! Hope you enjoy it as much as many of us do. But get ready for some debate, that is part of the fun. Most of us try never to make it personal but some seem to forget that on occasion so hope you don’t have too thin a skin.
All food points that have been discussed extensively here. Finally, it is beginning to look like there is an effort to improve after seeming to stand still for quite awhile. Maybe they weren’t really standing still but it began to look that way from the outside. Now we will see what happens.
Mike if you ever want to get out of sports writing and radioing, you got what it takes to be a great politician, saying everything both sides want to hear without upsetting either, now that’s smooth, not earth shattering info or opinions but real popular, except with orangutanblue, LOL.
henryac…………
I don’t know about you, but these past 3-4 seasons have felt like an eternity of being stuck in mediocrity………….def standing still and stuck in neutral…………
We’re finally moving forward and putting the horror of the McD era as far in the rearview mirror as possible.
Anyone see Lloyd going back to the bears? I think the Titans might be the team lobbying for him most…………with Britt gone, they need some help bigtime.
then again, the jets and ryan are crazy…………who know, they might be in the mix too! LOL
Marshall being Marshall again, an idiot, LOL:
DAVIE, Fla. — Preparing for “Monday Night Football,” Brandon Marshall dropped a pass during drills Thursday, picked up the ball and gave it an angry boot.
Not that emotional outbursts take practice for the former Broncos star, but Marshall said he’s planning a prime-time doozy. The mercurial Miami Dolphins receiver complained he has been playing with his emotions in check and will show more passion Monday against the New York Jets.
“My goal is to get thrown out midway through the second quarter,” Marshall said.
When asked if he was joking, Marshall said no.
“I’m serious. They want to fine me, it’ll probably be like a $50,000 fine,” he said. “But I’m going to play. That quarter and half I’m out there, I’m going to play like a monster.”
In July, Marshall disclosed he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. On Thursday, he said efforts to keep his emotions on an even keel have hurt his play.
The two-time Pro Bowl receiver, who had 86 catches for 1,014 yards last season, has 22 catches this year but only one TD, and he’s tied for third in the NFL with five drops, including three in the end zone.
“I’m best when I play with passion,” he said, “and you guys are going to see that on ‘Monday Night Football.’ . . . Something is going to happen.”
Cool thing is Monday night we get to see the Dolphins, our opponent for next week and the Jets one of our opponents later, a not to miss game for serious Bronco fans for sure.
yah bay, I read that this morning……….While I do miss his talent in Denver, I don’t miss the person he is one bit. He’s still an idiot and always will be.
Maybe he needs to put his arm through a TV again or something..lol
Latest news has it that if we do trade Lloyd they will wait to do so until the week’s games are played, including Monday night football, so we’ll have to wait until the Tuesday trading deadline to find out I guess.
A $50,000 fine, his arm through a ref maybe, LOL.
Mike, excellent article. I voiced my opinion on these so called ‘analysts’ making their positions known about this team as well as TT a few blogs back. I have no use for any of them. The biggest majorities are ex-players, and those that are ex-qb’s from the league are the ones making the opinion that TT will fail. Looking at their first full year win-loss, none of them have any room for making any prediction/opinion about whether TT will fail or not. I honor your stance. I for one appreciate you putting it in words. That is how these so called analysts should have done it.
maybe marshall needs to finally realize that he went to a place with no talent at QB, and therefore he won’t be getting the ball as much or scoring as much as he was accustomed to here in Denver.
Then again, his case of the dropsies aren’t helping his cause either.
He’ll be demanding a trade out of there soon enough……..just a matter of time.
Maybe what he needs to realize is that he is an idiot. Plain and simple. There really is no cure for that. Making the statement he has made about doing something to get thrown out should be looked at by the league in a different light. This tells me he is planning this ‘excitement’ for Monday night and if he does go through with this plan and get thrown out of the game then the league should not only add some 0′s to the fine but a stiff suspension should be in order. In the eyes of the law, if you commit a crime that is pre-meditated the penalty is always a lot stiffer.
he’s just talking through his a$$ like he normally does………..he’ll prob end up with 3 dropped balls, and a fumble while strtching for a first down. lol
I do like the title of this blog though “Time to find out”.
That’s exactly the kind of period we are now entering.
Finding out if Tebow can win more games than Orton.
Finding out whether Tebow can be the long term answer or not.
Finding out if McCoy and Fox will adapt their offense to compliment Tebow’s natural abilities.
Finding out if Royal can ever get back to the glory days.
Finding out if Demaryius is indeed made of glass.
Finding out if Lloyd will be a Bronco much longer.
Finding out if EFX needs to look at a QB in next draft.
Finding out how much longer Orton will be a Bronco.
Lots to find out and answers will be coming fast and furious.
And no, to me finding out if we can make the playoffs this season is not one of those things to find out, found it already, LOL.
bay, you mean we can’t finish the season 11-5????? LOL
I tell you what maybe my 6-10 has a shot?
I need 5 wins for that:
At Miami
Jets
At Minnesota
Chicago
KC at home
hahaha, or even my 7-9!! But I highly doubt it. Your 6 wins is still a stretch at this point I think.
Any other potential moves you see happening at the deadline? I hear rumblings of DJ here on the blog……….is that even realistic? If there was a time to clean house of wasted space, this would be it.
I have been wanting to get rid of DJ for over a year as everyone here knows, but we have only one other weakside LB now in Woodyard so I highly doubt it but I bet we trade him before next draft.
Will Royal ever get back to that elusive rookie season talent? He’s been essentially non-existent ever since……….not entirely all upon himself……….McD didn’t utilize him properly.
I’d love to see that slot machine in Royal back again.
I bet if Lloyd is gone we have a real good shot at seeing my boy Willis becoming Tebow’s favorite long target since they practiced together with the twos so often the last two years.
Great quote by Tebow’s former coach:
“I’m a lover of the game of football, and football still comes down to toughness, intelligence, energy, sacrifice and getting a TEAM to play well. When it comes to all of those things, Tim is as good as anyone who has played the game.”
–Urban Meyer
I’m also looking forward to seeing Willis out there……..I think he can be a premier WR if given the chance.
and can we just cut goodman already? he’s not even good, man……he’s garbage, man!
What they’re saying about Tebow cont….
“And that’s what Tim Tebow is: a hulking unpredictable intangible. He brings something to the field, an attitude, swagger, demeanor that you just can’t qualify or put neatly into statistics. He plays every down with the speed and intensity of a train on the verge of derailing.”
–John A. Torres, Florida Today
“Tebow’s been doing that since he was little, man — winning football games, coming back, playing great for his team. … He’s going to turn that team around.”
–Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, Tebow’s former teammate at Florida
Just saw we put Lloyd on the trading block. I wonder if we’re freeing up money Tebow is now going to make.
Bay, I believe you may have posted this one already….
“While there are still a long list of arguments to be made about whether Tim Tebow is, or isn’t, ready from a football perspective for what’s to come, there are certainly some football reasons that Kyle Orton isn’t the Broncos’ starting quarterback anymore. Some weren’t Orton’s fault, some were.”
–Woody Paige, Denver Post

@KK for7:19 post. You are being a little kind by calling the last couple of seasons mediocre. Sad, pathetic, lost, clueless, several terms come to mind that could be considered along with mediocre. Kind of like riding around on an ocean liner with nobody at the wheel! Kind of depends on the wind, the waves and the current which way it wanders off. Maybe EFX are still trying to figure out just how bad things really are but at least it now looks like they may have an idea of which way to head. That is a major improvement over the recent past!
By not signing Lloyd long term you definitely save money for Tebow’s escalators whatever they may be, but we are already something like 24 mil under the cap so there is plenty of room, so it always goes back to money, as it doesn’t grow on trees, specially in Denver, LOL.
Under Orton, port of call Denver, destination unknown.
Under Tebow, port of call Denver, destination 2012 draft know how.
That’s definitely a HUGE improvement as to knowing were we’re heading, even though not established yet. At least the chess pieces have been moved.
Mike, thanks for the word once again on your blog. Always something to talk about. And the theme: “Time To Find Out” Says it all. I`m sure glad about that. I just want to see if Tebow can do it. We don`t have to win a bunch of games this year to know if Tim`s got it or not, but is he progressing every week and leading the team down field more ofton than not. Does he get 7`s or not. We`ll know by seasons end like some say. I can hardly wait. STRANDOFTDS
We were so stagnant in Denver the orange kool aid turned sour, couldn’t drink any of it.
Under Orton, destination anywhere they don’t ever give a darn or shave.
Example:
Bailey’s and Orton’s beard are awful
Doom’s beard is awesome
It’s all about presentation fools.
Henry and killer, thanks for the welcoming and glad to make the transition. No worries to not having thick skin lol, as I like to debate, just not in writing lol, as in writing words can be misunderstood. Hello Bay, read your posts and seem to agree with you that the orange kool aid got sour, but I will always be drinking it, just not in barrel amounts lol. Right now I can be optimistic and believe with Tebow, that the team is headed in the right direction. To the subject of Llyod being on the trading block, I am ok if he stays and ok if he goes. I thought he should have made catches last week that he didn’t, and I’m afraid he will try to demand touches on the ball causing bad INT’s from Tebow. So go or stay, it bothers not.
Ah man I actually like Champ’s beard. It might be because he’s the only black man I’ve seen with a lumberjack beard though…
And Henryac is right, we don`t have much talent and some of us smart pleople know that. It`s going to take a few years through the draft to get where we want to be. EFX will get it going and they will focus on the D in this coming draft. We need a DT, CB, RB and OL. Those are the holes for the future to fill. Oh and more LB`s.
Thanks for weighing in, folks.
4Eva-A-Bronco…glad you jumped into the conversation! Thanks for what you wrote.
killerkod…call it evaluating, rebuilding, whatever you want. The Broncos have multiple areas to shore up and over the course of this season, they simply have to get a clear picture of the quarterback position beyond this year. Going with Tebow will at least give them a start on figuring out where they stand at that position.
bay…you will be pleased (I think) to know that I have absolutely no plans to make politics a part of my future! The crazy thing is, no matter what one says on the Tebow situation, there is someone who has an issue with it. But that’s cool. All part of the deal. Thanks for your thoughts.
seweatherman1…thanks. We’ll see if the naysayers turn out to be right. I’m not betting on that but when it comes right down to it, I just know know. As I said, though, I won’t bet against Tebow.
strandoftds…I think if Tebow stays healthy and starts the final 11 games of the season, we will have at least something of an idea of how good he could be. I know this much, when we have seen him play, the Broncos at least seem to have a shot to win at the end. At the same time, we’ll see how defenses do when they game plan against him and, in turn, how Tebow and the Broncos adjust to that. Should be fun.
Mike
