The Pack Is Back

SUPER BOWL

GREEN BAY 31, PITTSBURGH 27

The snacks are ready to go. The beverages are already cold.

Bring on the Super Bowl.

If this game were played during the week, the day would have to be a national holiday.

You have to love it.

This year, I absolutely love the match-up. The game will feature two storied and tradition-rich organizations.

It will feature two of the great quarterbacks and defenses in the game. I believe it will be a game that at least comes close to matching the Super hype we get every year.

The Steelers have been here several times before and several times recently. They are playing in their third Super Bowl in the last six years. There certainly is something to be said for experience. I can’t imagine anything rattling the Steelers. Nothing should surprise them.

If there is one thing that impresses me most about the Steelers, it’s their balance. They can run the ball more than effectively, averaging 120.2 yards per game (11th in the NFL). Ben Roethlisberger can pass the Steelers to a win if needed. The Steelers were 14th in the league averaging 225.1 yards per game. And their defense is stifling. They allowed a league-low 14.5 points per game.

While Aaron Rodgers grabs most of the headlines for the Packers, Green Bay’s defense is just as tough as that of Pittsburgh. The Packers surrendered only 15 points per game, second behind the Steelers. They have more than enough to hold the Steelers down.

The Packers also have more than enough offense to be effective against the Steelers’ defense. While the Packers’ running game isn’t exactly prolific (100.4 yards per game), Aaron Rodgers has the ability to 1) pass the ball effectively enough to set up the run and 2) make up for a lack of a rushing attack altogether if necessary.

Remember, the game will be indoors. Weather won’t be a factor. I think that favors the Packers in a big way.

There is no denying the Steelers’ excellence, both this year and in the recent past. But it’s the Packers’ time to step back into the spotlight. Aaron Rodgers gets it done on offense. The Packers have enough on defense.

Green Bay completes its remarkable playoff run and brings the Lombardi Trophy back to Lambeau Field.

What is your prediction for the game? I’d love to see what you think. Thanks for reading and posting.

Best,
Mike

    Packers win.

    Have Fun.

    Go Broncos.

    TRB out….

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Wow, it looks like TRB missed out on the Sharpe to the HOF news…

  4. sndvl says:

    Whooping-Hoooooo!!!
Call in the national guard, Shannon Sharpe is a H.O.F member.

    Congratulations Mr. Sharpe

  5. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I know he is. I saw the broncos status on facebook when it dropped

“hannon Sharpe is headed to Canton, Ohio, in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2011. He will be the eighth tight end enshrined.”

Guess I forgot to say something about it. But nothing that hasn’t already been said.

Congrats to him. Well deserved. 3 superbowl. One of the best TE’s ever.

Came far for a 7th round pick.

A friend of mine (I live close to Baltimore) was like “We finally got our first Raven in the HOF” (as his facebook status)

And I was like…ummm, he is a Bronco not a Raven…he was with yall for 1 year.

And he was like “but he won a superbowl with us”

And im like, he won 2 with us, whats your point? lol

    TRB out….

  6. Crazyhorserider says:

Since Terrell Davis is the greatest running back ever in yardage in one season, has 2 Super Bowl rings and a SB MVP, how come he wasn’t voted into the HOF? It must be fixed. He should have got there first time.

That is why I think the whole thing is pointless. You almost know that so many of the Broncos’ greatest players will not get to the HOF because they were not high in the draft. To me players like Rod Smith should be there long before all these fancy players like Sanders.

  7. stevecan2 says:

hahaha the national guard reference. i absolutely love when he did that. That is exactly the attitude we need on our team again. It is awesome he got in. lol at the FB thing, it was the first thing i did after reading about him getting in.

  8. stevecan2 says:

2011 the year the Broncos get their swagger back.

  9. Orange_Crusher says:

    wow…

That is one MAN SIZED WEDGIE on Woodley…….

Now we know why they are called the Squealers……..

That magnitude of wedgie could raise any mans voice at least three octives…..lol

  10. strandoftds says:

And Sterling Sharpe is going to be the one who introduces his younger brother into the HOF baby!!

  11. Orange_Crusher says:

I think the cheese heads are gonna spank the squeelers and give them all great big wedgies and send them home crying like bearded berthas on a bath boat… lol

    CheeseHeads 48

    Squeelers 24

  12. Orange_Crusher says:

    Congrats to SS…….HOF!

    I LOVE ME SOME SS!!!

  13. milehighmagic88 says:

I’m so happy for Shannon, one of my all-time favorite Broncos. It’s about time he got the recognition he deserves. I kind of feared he might never get in because many analysts consider him a WR since he was an undersized TE, but we all know how ridiculous that is. Good to see they finally wised up and voted him in.

Congrats Shannon Sharpe! A true Bronco through and through (I like to pretend he never spent those two years in Baltimore, haha).

  14. sndvl says:

Hey, at least Shannon started a Bronco and ended a Bronco. Now he’s the fourth Bronco in the HOF!

  15. baylinorcrush says:

Love the Klis’s article title today:

    Denver Franchise now a fixer-upper

“I can’t believe how one guy, Josh McDaniels, was able to ruin such a great franchise in such a short time,” former Broncos linebacker Bill Romanowski said.

“I would like to say they can turn it around as quick as McDaniels messed it up,” said former Denver tight end Shannon Sharpe, selected to the NFL Hall of Fame on Saturday. “But I’m not sure that’s possible.”

Feel better? Good, because it’s time to move on. McDaniels has. He’s the offensive coordinator of Stan Kroenke’s St. Louis Rams.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

About what we need and where we’re at:

“If it starts with the coach, I know they got a good one in John Fox,” said Brian Billick, a former NFL coach who led the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title 10 years ago. “Obviously job one will be to get that defense straightened out. That’s just got to happen.”

Denver’s defense has been in decline since Game 7 of the 2006 season, when the Broncos lost 34-31 to Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. The defensive nadir occurred in training camp last year when defending NFL sack champion Elvis Dumervil suffered a season-ending torn pectoral injury. The Broncos finished 32nd in total defense in the 32-team league and 32nd in points allowed.

The good thing is we won’t be able to go lower than that this season, haha.

The most common response to the fixer-upper?

“I think first of all, you have to figure out what to do with your quarterback,” said Joe Theismann, a former Super Bowl-winning QB and now an NFL Network analyst. “It starts with the quarterback position, and John will know that better than anybody whether to go forward with Tim Tebow or stay with Kyle Orton.

“And then the other side of the ball, as is proven here with the Super Bowl, you have to be able to stop people.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers have elite quarterbacks in Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers. Also, they ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in scoring defense this season.

And this is where I love what Elway has to say about that, pay attention:

“And I’m not sure in that order,” Elway said. “Because if we play defense, we might be able to sort things out on the offensive side.”

Amazing, it takes a QB to tell us what matters most to start with: D!

Now interesting conservative view of the Tebow thing by Sharpe:

“Solid,” Sharpe said of the Broncos’ hiring of Fox. “I think with where the Broncos are, they couldn’t take another risk on a first-year guy. Sometimes when you use the word ‘safe,’ people have the wrong perception of what that means. But they needed a guy who is defensive-minded. They needed someone who is not going to give Tebow the freedom that the Rams gave Sam Bradford last year. You need a guy like John Fox.”

I don’t agree with that statement, the Rams did pretty darn well last year after a 1-15 season the previous year!!! Sharpe you may be in the HOF, but you still come up with silly stuff.

And HOF WR James Lofton has a great analysis of what it’s like for HC’s out there now:

“With coaches who have been there before, they know what the finished product looks like. I always harken back to John McKay when he took over in Tampa. He said he had a five-year plan. He had a five-year plan because he had a five-year contract.

“That doesn’t float anymore. Now, you’ve got about 18 months. From the time you get hired, by about midway through that second season, you better start showing that you’re turning the corner. You’ve got your players in, you’ve weeded out the players you didn’t want, you’ve had two drafts, two free-agent classes.”

Thanks Klis, that was some pretty good stuff in what is now Deadsville Bronco wise other than Shannon to the HOF.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

Oh, yeah, and there is a game today, Packers 31 Steelers 28.

  18. royalbroncofan1 says:

Interesting article. Sam Bradford was playing a controlled passing attack with safe outlets to his RB’s and comeback routes. Not exactly tearing up the NFL in his first year, but he did well enough to garner Rookie Offensive Player of the year award.

  19. strandoftds says:

Will there be a OT SuperBowl game today, the first in history? That would be cool to see.

  20. seweatherman1 says:

    Packers 17 Steelers 14, ot.

  21. 19bk90 says:

Packers 21 Steelers 14 tied in the 4th and the pack score in the last 2min

  22. camharland says:

Christina just messed up the National Anthem. Lord help us!
    Go Pack!
    Go Broncos!

  23. S.D.Bronco30 says:

So lets hope the game goes better then the National Anthem…I get it, you’re a pop star but it’s NOT the tryouts for American Idol, it’s the National Anthem, I consider it sacred, to be left original, I don’t need to hear your range and pop rendition…sing it like it was written!!!

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Wow, not a single comment about the SB….

  25. baylinorcrush says:

So, my quick comments on the game:

The Steelers won the time of posession and had more yards than the Packers, but the three Steelers turnovers to none for the Packers was the difference in a fairly predictable score since Mike had the Packers winning 31-27 and I 31-28, both very close to the 31-25 final score.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

    Now back to Bronco stuff:

Asked about the pick last week, here’s what Elway told the NFL Network:

“We’re in the process of setting that board up. The board is set, but as far as where we’re going to go with it, we don’t really know until we find out what’s going to go on the collective bargaining agreement, because obviously that second pick is an expensive pick if it stays as it is.

“That’s what we’re hoping, that the collective bargaining agreement comes together quickly, and then once that comes together we can kind of figure out our philosophy going into this draft. Because where we are, we’ve got three picks in the top 46 picks, so we’ve got to make sure those hit, especially that second pick.”

The implication of these remarks is that the cost of the second overall pick under current rules, which do not limit pay packages for unproven draft picks, could persuade the Broncos to trade down. On the other hand, if a new labor deal imposes the rookie salary scale the league is seeking, the Broncos would feel free to exercise the pick.

So, bottom line our hopes of a #2 pick rest on the prayer that the idiot players and owners have a CBA in place before April 28… What a bunch of crapola this crap is.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

Whether the Broncos would be willing to exercise the second pick, betting that a rookie salary scale will ultimately be a part of the labor settlement, isn’t clear from Elway’s remarks. Many independent analysts believe the rookie scale is likely to be part of the settlement and so do I so there would be absolutely no excuse to trade down the #2 pick in my opinion, specially if Fairley is still on the board.

  28. strandoftds says:

And they are going to meet again twice more this week to discuss the CBA. I hope they lock themselves in until the reach a settlement. I do believe that there should be a rookie scale. These rookies need to prove themselves before they really make the big bucks.

  29. strandoftds says:

And as for the Super Bowl last night, G.B. came close to losing this game. The Packers let them back in after they were leading 21-3. When the two CB`s went down thats when the Steelers started there come back. But Shields eventually did come back in and finished strong. G.B. should have finished off the Steelers in the 3rd quarter but couldn`t get the ball rolling. Far to many drop passes by Packers WR`s.

  30. strandoftds says:

If the rookie scale is lowered, then by all means, use the #2 overall pick Whether it`s Fairley, Bowers, or Dareus. I especially want Fairley.

  31. areferee says:

I predict that the Green Bay Packers will win 31-25 and Aaron Rodgers will be the MVP. Ben Roethlisberger will throw 2 interceptions and Mendenhall will give up a critical fumble.

Furthermore, 400 disgruntled fans will be without seats and unable to watch Christina Aguilera as she muffs the National Anthem.

    Dang, I’m good…

  32. imready says:

When I was watching the game, though I had committed I was cheering for the “Pack”, I found myself wanting the Steelers to win. LOL I really need the Broncos back in the big game so there will be no confusion at to who I want to win ! Truth is, if the Broncos aren’t playing I could care less about the superbowl or any other game for that matter unless it has the potential to directly affect the Broncos.
I missed all the pre-game singing because once they started, I just didn’t want to listen to it. It sounded bad enough to me before she messed it up. LOL
Black Eyed Peas=good entertainers, but they aren’t musicians. They reminded me of the Village People or Kiss with the outfits. The only good thing good about the superbowl halftime shows is they’re longer so you’ve got time to do stuff before the second half starts.
I did LOL at a couple of the commercials, I almost felt guilty about that. After all, they are just trying to get into my pocket, which isn’t funny.

  33. strandoftds says:

Hey Ref, How`d you know that. Man, did you bet all of that on Vegas? If you didn`t, then why not? You`d be a milliondude. LOL

  34. strandoftds says:

    ooops. A millionaire. HaHa!

  35. strandoftds says:

I`m ready, I`m with you on your one statement. The Black Eyed Peas aren`t musicians. I didn`t even watch the half time show. I fast forwarded it thanks to DVR. Thank you God for DVR. The Black Eyed Peas are a freaken joke. They couldn`t hit a note if it slapped them in the face. Next year I`d like to see Led Zeppelin or AC/DC or some band of that nature. Real musicians for God sakes.

  36. strandoftds says:

I don`t care who it is that plays the half time show next year just as long as they are real musicians. It can be Hip Hop, Rock n Roll, Country, I don`t care. Just put on musicians who can play instruments, not people who are a darn dance – groove riot act. Anyone can do that.
