Fixing the team

1) New defensive scheme, hire Rex Ryan or Joel Collier

2) If Kenny Phillips is there, grab him, we lost out on Ed Reed by being stupid, lets not do that again.

3) Do whatever it takes to get Frank Okam.

4) Do whatever it takes to get Alan Faneca.

5) Do whatever it takes to get Owen Scmitt, our LT is going to get beat, we need a stud fullback to compensate.

As for Walker, he admits he was out of character and simply frustrated, re-work an incentive laden deal and hope he can stay healthy.

Ditto with Henry.

Get a veteran LT to back up Harris.

Being a long time (over 45 years) Vanderbilt Fan ,,, I can say without reservation - Jay cannot do it alone ... He could not do it alone at Vanderbilt ... Consequently, he really never learned how to win. As best I can tell, that is the *ONLY* plus missing from this young man's resume ... Once he learns how to win - John who ?

Now, if I could just get the dang Titans to take their boring team and move to Toledo and then, the Broncs to move to Nashville - I would be happy. (ducking)

Happy New Year, folks ... May the Broncos make the playoffs and not have to play a round one game next January ... 'no whut I meen, Vern ?

Hiring Brian Billick would be the worst move since Shanny took over. He is technically an offensive guy. His defense in Baltimore may have been good, but I certainly wouldn't give him most of the credit. He originally got the job because of his success as an OFFENSIVE coordinator. He was blessed with great defensive players and coaches, but he failed for 10 years to have anything resembling a good offense. That is sad. They had an excellent O-line, running backs, tight end, and OK wide recievers. BUT, Billick still failed because he never picked the right QB. This is what he prided himself on. They had plenty of opportunities, but he just couldn't get it done.
Some of you are upset with the offensive play calling, but we did improve as an offense as the season progressed. The offense got better. We moved the ball well, but we struggled inside the red zone. We still had a young team and a lot of injuries. Plus, we were trailing a lot this season because our defense and special teams struggled. That all factors into the trouble. I am confident that we will improve on that next year.

Jay has more experience and it is starting to show. Give the kid a break. Early in the year he forced some throws that were not necessary. But he improved on that. The first 5 games of the year he had more interceptions than touchdowns (6 int. and 4 TDs). BUT, the last 11 games he had 16 TDs and only 8 interceptions. That isn't bad. The good news is a lot of those interceptions came when he NEEDED to force a play. Cutler ended the year with 20 TDs, 14 Int, 3497 yards passing, and a rating of 88.1. If you forget the Chargers and Raiders games, he had an terrific middle and end of the season starting at week 7. Perhaps if he wasn't sacked 4 times against the Chargers, then maybe that day would have been better. That is improvement, and that is what is important.

A little too much from the Negative Nacys here... The Broncs were really not as bad as you all think. Lots of transition - everything just hasn't completely gelled yet. We all had high hopes for the season and sure it hurt when it fell short, but we're only a couple of players away from completing the puzzle and rocking the league. Clearly the defense has a lot more room to improve than the O, and it won't take much to bring it together. Everybody saying Lynch is too slow and should retire? Heck, why not move HIM to MLB...? DJ is a great player but more times than not he's out of position. Sure, having very little D-Line help makes the job harder, but he may not be cut out for it. Move him back outside! Everybody saying trade or cut Walker and Henry? Why?? Yes, they did not perform up to the standard we all hoped they would but you can't just chuck 'em like you're playing Madden or something. These are GOOD players and will really help the team. What happens if Young gets hurt (like he did about as much as Henry)...? What happens if Marshall gets hurt...? Use your freakin' brains guys. You KNOW there won't be much chance of us getting equivalent talent in the draft. It would be downright STUPID to throw these guys away. Just a couple more players added and the team mixture solidifies...and the Broncos will be absolutely PREMIERE for many years to come. The future looks great!

I'm not ok with 2007, but this isn't as dark as it seems if I take this season as a looong offseason heading to 2008. Why? Many new and young players in key roles to really get into the Broncos game. There were many good surprises but also painfull revelations. My fact-wish list...

1)This is the 1st season in some years without a 1000 yds RB. Travis Henry must be traded or fired. The place is covered with Young and Hall, and maybe a new undrafted RB (scouts are good at this).

2)Lynch should retire. I like him, but I think he's thinking more about his health, family and future out-of-the field (NFL Network maybe?) than anything (and who could blame him?). This position should be the #1 priority to cover.

3)Keep J. Walker. I agree with all those who want to see a Marshall-Stokley-Walker-Scheffler-Graham receiving combo. Give this weapons to Cutler and there will be a good air show to see.

4)Get all help you can to OL. RBs can help better for other tasks than blocking (where are the screen passes??) and Cutler just doesn't play as well lying on the field this much, don't you think?

5)The offensive plays.... Hell! Get help in this too!! Offense was so predictable that my pals and me played "guess which play they will do" watching the games on tv and it was an easy-boring game. Just look back at the game vs. Houston... It was sad to see them doing all those old Broncos' variety of plays (Kubiak's), and nothing from our side. Shannahan must hire a head to think that for him and let him focus on coaching a whole team (defense included, of course).

6)For defense... well, get one. Good guys + no couch watching + no coordinator + no plan = 409 pts. Why not offer a Titans / Ravens / Steelers def. coord. a job instead of a Packers one? Was the GB defense so great in 2006 that it worthed it? No.

Sorry for the long post. Too much to say.
Cheers and GO Broncos!!
