The initial flurry of free agent activity has subsided and the Broncos were as active as any team in the NFL. Their list of acquisitions looks like an oversized draft class. They signed players at a variety of positions, which is good because the Broncos have a variety of needs.
Here are some thoughts about the Broncos’ moves in free agency. Keep in mind that I am an optimist and look for the bright side of things.
RUNNING BACK
I like what the Broncos did here. They brought in experienced NFL players Correll Buckhalter, J.J. Arrington and LaMont Jordan. Add them to a group of young backs including Peyton Hillis, Ryan Torain, Selvin Young and Andre Hall and the Broncos will have plenty of options once training camp starts.
They simply had to bring in some guys who have produced in the NFL. They accomplished that. When Coach McDaniels was in New England, the Patriots used several running backs instead of one workhorse back. I can see the Broncos using the same philosophy at running back in 2009. If they do, they’ll have some good candidates from which to choose.
I think Buckhalter, Arrington and Jordan can and will be productive, assuming all are on the team in September when the regular season opens.
And let’s not forget that Hillis showed he is an NFL-caliber player in 2008 and Torain showed flashes of good play in his short time on the field before injuring his knee.
DEFENSIVE BACK
There is no doubt that the Broncos upgraded at the safety position. If all goes according to plan, they signed their two starters in Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill. At 35 years old, Dawkins isn’t the same player he was five to eight years ago. But I think there’s enough left in his tank for him to help this team.
And from everything I hear, Dawkins will be a terrific addition to the locker room. The Broncos’ defense has lacked a passionate leader since Al Wilson played here. Dawkins could very well be the type of leader the Broncos’ D so desperately needs.
I can’t say I know a lot about Renaldo Hill but I have to believe he will be, at the very least, pretty good. He started 38 of 39 games for the Dolphins the last three years and has started virtually every game the last six seasons.
I also like the signing of cornerback Andre Goodman, another starter for the Dolphins a year ago. As we discussed in an earlier blog, the Broncos had to sign a starting cornerback to play opposite Champ Bailey. They did that and they seemed to have landed a good one. Of course, time will tell.
WIDE RECEIVER
With the NFL still looking into Brandon Marshall’s situation, the signing of Jabar Gaffney could prove to be a really good move. Gaffney hasn’t put up huge numbers in his career and isn’t an elite, number one receiver, or at least hasn’t shown that type of ability to this point in his career.
Gaffney, however, has been pretty reliable. Given an opportunity to play a bigger role, he might be a surprise, especially with a quarterback like Jay Cutler delivering the ball.
If Marshall misses some games, we can’t expect Gaffney alone to replace Brandon. But he would certainly be a good option to have.
LINEBACKER
I really like the signing of Andra Davis. He also fits the mold of a player you might not immediately think of when recalling the elite players at his position. But he has been a really good player for the Browns, who haven’t exactly been that good over the years.
Let’s not lump the signing of Davis into the “Browncos” experiment from a few years ago. The Broncos picked up a tough and talented player. They also added some depth at the linebacker position and they’ll need that as they switch to the 3-4 defense, or at least play more of that scheme.
QUARTERBACK
The Broncos did themselves a favor by adding Chris Simms to the roster. Here’s a guy who led the Buccaneers to the playoffs just a few years ago and then suffered that horrific spleen injury. No doubt that set him back.
But I think Simms has good football left in him. Every team needs a quality back-up quarterback. I think Simms puts the Broncos in good shape at this spot.
No doubt the Broncos have work left to do. To me, however, they took some good first steps in free agency. They added talent and experience at several positions.
Are the Broncos a playoff team with the recent additions? I don’t know. But I do think they are a better team with the players they added. It will be fun to see what other moves they might make leading up to the draft. And then it will be most interesting to see whom they draft in late April.
There’s one other topic I’d like to briefly discuss before ending this blog, and that’s the Jay Cutler trade talks.
It is the type of story that elicits immediate and passionate reaction. I understand why that is so. I appreciate those of you took the time to post comments on the situation but I must also admit I was disappointed at the name-calling and inappropriate remarks that cropped up. It wasn’t widespread, but it was there.
A few of you asked my thoughts about the trade talks and what transpired once the talks became public. I almost always take a wait-and-see approach before weighing in on things like this because the initial information rarely represents the whole picture.
Coach McDaniels and Jay are scheduled to meet soon. In the near future, I’ll offer some thoughts about the situation.
Feel free to weigh in on what you think about the Broncos’ free agent signings. I appreciate your reading and posting your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Mike

We do need more quality DL’s, but in the reason our 3-4 experiment didn’t work was poor coaching. Slowik was a terrible D Coordinator. In the 3-4 the DL’s don’t need to get the pressure. The DL’s just need to take up blocks and be there to stop the run, it’s the job of the LB or Saftey who’s coming through to get the pressure. I would like to see Peterson playing DE for us next season.
66forHOF… Thank you. That is the point I have been trying to make all along. In the 3-4 it is the lineman’s job to merely tie up blockers, not always get to the quarterback. That’s why 3-4 linemen never have huge stats as far as sacks go, except for a rare few like Richard Seymour. I understand that the roster isn’t exactly complete as far as the linemen go, and it would help to get a huge NT, but look at Mike Wright in NE. At times he played NT for the Pats last year and he only weighs 295. In the 3-4 scheme technique, positioning and a physical nature are all just as important if not more so than size. Trust me with a few solid linemen, especially guys who understand and fit the scheme such as Fields, guys like like Doom and Moss will be able to get pressure coming off the edge or DJ or Davis coming up the middle. Yes, it will probably take some time and some more players for this defense to become elite, but I think the front office is putting the right beginning pieces in place to turn this thing around.
Im really excited about the team this year. Im purchasing directTV and the NFL package in a couple months jus so i can watch every single game. But the thing im most excited about is watching the broncos vs. chiefs games. both qbs are gonna have something to prove. nd i look forward to see how good matt cassel is wen he isnt playin for the mighty patriots. personally i dnt feel like the trade for cassel was “blockbuster”. because i dnt think hes really proven himself. i think that he isnt much more than the tyler thigpen type. if u put tyler thigpen in the new england style offense under mcdaniels wing hed have the same year tht cassel had. Cassel has mediocre arm strength at best and produces poorly under center. if cutler was in tht new england offense last year hed probably double cassels numbers. And another thing is the chiefs and scott poili better get some more recievers around him or hes not gonna do that well .because Dwayne bowe is a great reciever but hes no Randy Moss. BUt well see wuh happens .. only time will tell. But i am excited to see him

Heh any word of Wiegman resigning with the Broncos, I truly think that would be a very bad decision not to resign him.
true that CutlerCountry08,
we’ll see how well Cassel fares without McDaniels and the Patriots offensive weapons.
I agree with all the 3-4 situations, considering how Coach comes from a
3-4 defensive system and hired a 3-4 defensive coach, they’ll be shoring up on that side of the ball when the draft comes along. won’t be surprised if they pulled out a few offensive stand-outs.
47rocksurworld,
I believe Casey still has one year left on the contract, they were just in talks to extend it. So he will be in Denver at least one more year no matter what.
At least that’s what I think is going on. Can anyone else confirm that?
But I agree I think it’s crucial to hang on to him.
Good dirty dozen grab. Assuming they can get 3 or 4 keepers in the draft on defense then hopefully the Broncos will have am improved defense and a more competitive team overall that won’t get blown out so frequently!
to all of you armchair coaches out there i have only one question…..
which NFL team are you coaching in 2009?
the post above about cutler is very interesting. ESPN is trying to start more shi* again. I am wondering witch way to go. do i go with cutler who thinks ‘i am better than elway’. or do i bleed orange and blue with coach mac?
if jay was working for me how would i feel? would i say “grow up kid you are not all of what you think you are”. or say “the broncos were here long bofore you came and will be here after you leave” Heck I might even say you asked for a trade now you want me to take all of the heat. I even tried to give a #1 pick AND YOU. but the other team offered less and got more players, so N E took it.
if i was jay working for mac. ‘tell mac i am not talking to him right now.’ or should i tell him that i changed my mind about a trade. NO stop I’ll keep this going as long as i can and maybe i”ll get a raise. THATS IT they cannot replace me this year so i can call all the shots, i won’t go to any of the meetings and why practice either. I, ME, JAY CUTLER, the man with an arm better than everybodys, yes me, i can do what i want. DENVER BRONCOS, hell, this is MY team. i”ll call up everyone and see if they will join the NEW WAVE BRONCOS where everyone that wants to can act like their last name is OWENS.
let me put it to you like this CUTLER. Shanny put his neck on the line in 2006 for you when he pulled jake p. you are 17 wins and 20 loses. that is with a HOF COACH. YOU ARE NOT THAT GOOD. your just a QB. you better thank the o-line b/c they let you go to the pro bowl. it was not just YOU.
you play on a team where the fans love you, they have hope in you, they think you invented football. some said they would die if you wern’t there. you are a big fish in a little pond. do you want to be a little fish in a big pond???????
I think these are good signings. I hope Hillis is our starting RB by week 1. He HAS to be in the starting backfield so it’s either RB or FB. If not Hillis draft Gartrell Johnson. He’s a stud+home grown grinder. From all the FA’s I like Arrington the best. He seems the most explosive+was a back up to a legend. Maybe he picked a few things up from Edge James. The rest of this blog is for all the fair weather fans in CO. Are you people kidding me? I thought we support the Denver Broncos not jay cutler. give me a break. If all you bandwagon fans who love Cutler want to jump ship when/if he gets traded..then by all means get your life jacket. I’m a DIE HARD denver broncos fan. The whole team. I support the team when it’s down, makes bad decisions, what not. I’m all for making this team better. We’ve been average for the past 3 years. Un-freak’n-acceptable. Time to stir the pot. Nobody on this team is untouchable. And I state=TEAM. That’s what the fans of CO support. The whole team. Not 1 pre-madonna player w/great God given talents. I’m happy there are still a strong contingent of loyal BroncoManiacs. Stay strong. be safe. and Keep the Faith. punches n bunches….
just read the cutler-mcdaniels-talk-in-conference-call-ap/ article and it sounds as if cutler is continuing to throw temper tantrums, he would not even come to denver to tallk with mcdaniels… sure sounds like he needs some growing up to do, what will cutler do in the middle of game if the coach chews him out? sit on the 50 yard line and throw a hissy fit or maybe just throw interceptions and the game. i’ve been a broncos fan since the vertical striped socks era…the TEAM needs a leader on offense not some crybaby…i would not be surprised if cook has his agent sit out the year…. remember bobby humphreys? what a great rookie year he had and then his agent had him sit out a year and the next nfl game he player he broke his leg and never returned…come on jay grow up and be a man
Thanks for the post Mr. Rice,
Glad to see you responding as well. I take back my MIA comments.
Thank you Sir.

I agree with those backing Cutler on this. ..I’m not saying he has handled this perfectly, as i think he should not be talking so much to people letting things out in the media…but then again they are there to report what is going on as the fans have a right to know since we pay everyones salary
.
If McDaniel’s was such a good LEADER he would have done everything in his power to go and make things right with Jay. He would have went out of his way to make sure their relationship was GREAT and completely repaired. Sorry Mc D but Cutler is a PROVEN… team player, star QB & now pro bowler. You are NOT a proven Head Coach and this completely shows your inexperience. ..The truth is leadership and respect are EARNED not given just by position.
ALL YOU FANS WHO ARE DOWNING CUTLER for being upset should think about this… If you busted your a$$ the last few years developing yourself to be a franchise QB and basically carried the team (with rest of offense) and had the FRUIT to prove it with a pro bowl selection you to would be a bit PISSED OFF if some guy who was never a head coach before (wet behind the ears) came in talking trade trying to change a TOP 5 OFFENSE and trade you after all your hard work and dedication.
If Shannahan came in and said well Elway is getting a bit old, lets trade him and bring in a younger QB more in their prime, everyone would have FLIPPED OUT…don’t front. There are some players you JUST DON’T TRADE because they mean too much to the organization and the fans.
It’s not even that McDaniels thought of trading for Cassel that bothers me..I can understand it as a thought (he’s familiar with him etc) ..it’s that he has NOT DONE MUCH TO MAKE AMENDS. No interviews, press conference, trips to go see Jay..nothing. Any REAL LEADER would have made it a first priority to go fix what YOU started. Cutler didn’t do anything to initiate all this except have a natural emotional reaction of being upset. ..which if you ask me is a GREAT REACTION. That means the guy really cares!!!! if he didn’t care i’d be more concerned..Mc Daniels should relize that!!!
you’re say’n Cutler is a proven…what? what’s his W/L record? isn’t it 17-20. That’s not a proven winner in my book. If the QB wants all the accolades when they W then he has to eat it when they L. I think Cutler success (only success I see is good stats…big deal..I’d take W’s over TD’s anyday) is directly related to a GREAT, young OL. Clady, Hamilton, Weigman, Kuper, and Harris have been Stellar. That is the reason why we can put in an inexperienced QB-a la Simms-and still have a decent shot @ W’s. I know our D needs to step up BigTime! with the addition of Nolan+Dawkins+Goodman (upgrade over bly)+Davis (not sold on him. I still think Webster still has a shot to start) our D should have gotten better. Everything depends on Draft Day. We must go 99% D. Get a pass rusher. Why not get 2???? Get a safety+LB’s. Trading Cutler to Detroit might be a good move. Even if McD is not a PROVEN head coach he’s still the COACH. There is a hierarchy that these pepsi generation players seem to forget. The Coach makes the rules. I miss the days of Ditka+Parcells+Johnson. Nobody messed w/those coaches who also happened to be very successfull. Cutler is a player. McD (even though he’s “wet behind the ears”) is the Coach. End of discussion. Punches n Bunches
Just watched the dawkins one-one interview! this might be the understatement of the year, but I am VERY happy to have him on this team. You can tell by listening to him that he leads by example & doesn’t need to run his mouth to prove he is bad-a**.
I hope the rest of the team takes after him. May help some guys put things into perspective.
ok so the record means everything?? Is that what your saying?
Even if the Defense is HORRIBLE and 6 RB’s went on IR last yr. Every team playibng us was playing pass all game long..basically the entire game was on Cutlers shoulders…AND THE O LINE (i’ll give you that)
You can take Cassel with his 11-5 record but I’ll take my boy Cutler ANY day of the week. Put cutler in a good system with a decent defense without the weight of the whole team on his back and watch what happens!! Cutler has above average gifting in his ability. he has not had the right opportunity to shine yet.
I’m also NOT jumpin on the B-Marsh bandwagen yet either. Brandon “Butterfingers” Marshal who needs to up his work ethics and pay more attention to his career instead of all his girlfriend issues.
…We have a LOT of stuff to fix, yet i still think we’re so close ..if we had the right leader (which i thought Mc Daniels was, but now I’m not so sure).
We’ll see how this all unfolds on the field ion 09.
See Ya
yo-you’re 100% right ’bout our problems @ RB’s. Hillis had a great month, but then got hurt. Nobody else stepped up. Everyone was hurt. Cutler did have tons-tons of burden on his shoulders to make plays+put up points. I don’t bash his skill set. I bash his spoiled brat attitude. I hope I’m wrong ’bout him. I hope all you Cutler fans are right. I just feel Cutler doesn’t want to be in Denver. Denver is a GREAT city+PHENOMENAL sports town. Anybody should be proud to wear orange/blue. I know for the past decade we haven’t played in the 2nd season=play-offs. I know we’ve only won 1 play-off game in the past 6-7 years. Thank you, Snake. But…this is still 1 of the Top Shelf sports orgs in the business. End of discussion. I hope Cutler appreciates the opportunity he has. I feel like he doesn’t. I hope I’m wrong. ’nuff of this rap. How ’bout the draft? you think it’s pass rusher 1st rd. DB 2nd rd. LB 3rd rd. ????? That’s the way I hope it goes. Hell…get a pass rusher in Rd 4 too…appreciate the passion. keep it real. Punches n Bunches…
Who’s happy The Broncos didn’t sign Haynesworth?
Redskins DT Haynesworth indicted on two misdemeanor traffic charges
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been indicted on two misdemeanor traffic charges after being involved in a crash that seriously injured another driver.
District Attorney Kim Helper of Williamson County said Thursday that Haynesworth was indicted Monday on charges of reckless driving and having expired registration.
Haynesworth, a former Tennessee Titan who signed with the Redskins last month, was released on $1,000 bond after surrendering Wednesday. Maximum punishment is six months in jail and a $500 fine on the reckless-driving charge and 30 days in jail and a $50 fine for the other charge.
The charges come from a Dec. 13 incident in which Haynesworth tried to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median.
Chad Speck, Haynesworth’s agent, didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment. He previously said that his client pulled over after the accident, called police and did not leave until cleared by an officer.
Haynesworth is scheduled for arraignment March 30 in Williamson Circuit Court in Franklin, just south of Nashville. Helper would not speculate how long the case would be in the courts.
After the accident, on Interstate 65 south of Nashville, Corey Edmonson needed a wheelchair or walker to move, said his attorney, Jon Perry.
“I am not surprised at all by the indictment,” Perry said Thursday. “This accident could have very easily killed Corey.”
Haynesworth, an All-Pro, signed a $100 million, seven-year contract with the Redskins on Feb. 27 just a few hours after the start of free agency.
With the Titans last season, Haynesworth had a career-high 8.5 sacks. He has 24 sacks in seven NFL seasons since the Titans drafted him in the first round out of the University of Tennessee in 2002.
In 2006, Haynesworth was suspended for five games for swiping his cleated foot over Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode ’s face. It was the league’s longest suspension for an on-field act.
Last year, in another case, Haynesworth agreed to 30 days’ probation to divert a ticket for driving 103 mph in a 70-mph zone.

great article about baby jay, maybe he does want to wear the silver and blue, then he’ll be black and blue with no O-line
lostfan, you should go back to that article and read some of the comments below.
Hello Mr. Rice,
I see Jay Cutler is expected to be at The My Big Greek Roast event tonight at Mile High. Would you be so kind as to let us know if He shows up how He is feeling. Thanks.

Ok, broncosmaniac4life and others who are apparently unaware of cutlers talent LISTEN TO ME!!! A quarterback cannot win games!!! A TEAM can! Look at Cutlers passing yards this season and our points scored record this season! Realize something, he hasnt been here long and hes done that and just went to the probowl! Cutler would have a HUGE win record if we wouldve had an alright defense but we didnt! Stop basing wins and losses and comparing those to a quarterback! Our defense lost our games for us! Lay off of Jay!! McDaniels went about this thing the wrong way with how he didnt tell Jay anything about the trade! ANYONE would be pissed off at that, I dont care who you are! Our defense was second to last of how bad they are. EVERYONE needs to understand this and show your support for Cutler. He is OUR quarterback and he has been working his a$$ off for Denver and the fans. Im tired of reading peoples comments about how they dont support him and think he is wrong in this whole situation!! Please, if you are a REAL Denver fan like myself, UNDERSTAND THAT!!!
i agree this man isnt upset for trade talks hes scared of leaving denver he loves the team a man getting this upset bout leavin us fans we should have his back but at the same time hes gotta put up and shut up when they said were not tradin him
wildace69, i went and looked up last years scores. in the 8 games that we lost 6 of them we scored less than 20 points. in 3 of the games we scored less than 10 points in the other 2 we scored 23 and 21.
having said this, you are still right, we win or lose as a TEAM. i am not talking about jay-mac. what i am saying is it was not always the defences fault.
I think that Jay is just wanting them to admit it…I really think its not about being signed but just them doing it behind his back and then tell him over the phone that they didnt try to trade him at all and thats a lie!! They just need to admit what they did and move on!! Plus McD said that were not trading him after a WEEK of getting caught and it brought up in public that he tried to get cassel for cutler!
I know texark fan..I am talking about this year though! Thats why Cutler went to the probowl with how good he did this year! He proved himself this year and then McDaniels tried to trade him??? He is one of the best right now! We DEFF would have been in the playoffs this year if it wasnt for our defense! Esp from the damn buffalo bills game!
wildcat that was the 2008 season. we also won a game 16 to 13
sorry WILDACE69, also the defence held the opp. to less than 20, 5 times.
u also can blame loses on shannys play calling and lack of rbs i mean bowlen didnt release shanny cause he was a HOF coach he released him cause his once clever plays are now old hince why no1 picked him up. ill miss his press confrences and his scowls to the reffs. but since people caught on to his scheme he hasnt been the genious we all knew. jay threw to many picks but when u go against a team with there 8th string RB in the backfield u expect pass. and then theres that D that couldnt stop the run against bad RBs but held the good 1s to 80 yrds and we never had a pass rush i mean how many sacks did we have last year?
Well out of 16 games 5 times isint that good!! Plus look at the games where we got blown out like we did! That had NOTHING to do with Cutler at all! Take the New England Pats and the last San Diego game!! We looked like a high school team and thats was mostly because of our defense. Trust me, Jay Cutler is deff. following in John Elways footsteps. He is the best thing thats has happened to us since we lost Elway!
texark-fan and kase78matt, you guy’s make some very good points. The Broncos scored 30 or more points 5 times in 08 and everybody thinks thats what they averaged. In fact their average was 23.125 points per game. They averaged 2 turnovers and 3 3&outs per game and everybody knew They had a mediocre Defense but kept putting them in bad position. I’m not saying the Dwas good but The Broncos lived and died as a TEAM.

Jay Cutler was a no-show at The My Big Greek Roast event Honoring Steve Antonopulos the long time Denver Broncos Head trainer.
The Charity was for Dani’s Foundation which is committed to finding the cause and cure for pediatric sarcomas-rare forms of cancer taking the lives of children and young adults. Cutler was to be a VIP guest and roaster but instead was a No-show. Lame!
A promotional statement on KOA’s ad said quote: Quarterbacks Craig Morton, John Elway, Jake Plummer and Jay Cutler all worship “The Greek”. “He is the best trainer in the business and each and every Bronco for the past three decades is indebted to The Greek”
His No-show doesn’t sound like Cutler worshiped Him to me…

This is Lame, I hope the Charity did alright with out Jay. Where is this Pillar of the Community, and The Leader of This TEAM? I thought He was in town. He should’ve been there!

thank you monodono, for the NO SHOW NEWS. now i will sweet it out until monday. but no one will come on here and tell me if he shows up anyway.
I have been trying to say that our d should not take all the blame for weeks and now some are starting to see it a little deff.
kase78matt, along with every other team waiting until after the first 15 plays to make any adjustments, we lost gary quiback (spelling) 3 years ago then the play calling really got sidetracked. the whole team seamed to become just par. everyone liked shanny but as he told many good players, it is time to go.
still praying, m
This is why cutler didnt show!!
CBS4 Sports has learned Jay Cutler met face-to-face with head coach Josh McDaniels on Saturday morning. But the outcome was not good. We are told that much like last Monday’s conference call between Cutler and the Broncos brass, Saturday’s discussion did not go well. Cutler and the Broncos remain at odds.
The quarterback was scheduled to attend a “roast” for long-time Broncos trainer Steve Antonopulos on Saturday night. But as guests began to arrive, we learned Cutler would not be coming. A Broncos spokesperson told media members who were gathered at the event that Cutler decided not to attend because he did not want the attention on him to overshadow the evening’s festivities.
I dont blame him on not showing! It wouldve put ALL attention on him instead of the event!!
out of all of this i only want to know one thing. if jay can talk to a Bronco spokesperson and that person can tell a crowd than why can’t the same spokesperson tell us what is going on? where is SACCOMANO during all of this he is the bronco P R man?
Ohh i know, i really have a bad feeling that its going down hill…but i dont know! Cutler is always really into his teammates and everything! I have always loved and respected Jay but if he doesnt show on Monday, it will but some doubts in my mind!! He needs to show for his team and not care about McDaniels! He doesnt have to be friendly with McDaniels, just learn the new plays and go along with the flow!
Well guys sources say that Cutler will NOT show up for Monday workouts! I dont know if it is true or if he will show up, but this does not sound good! Its really sad when i think about it…we have one of the best quarterbacks who is going to make history and this is how our coaches and people who do not support him are going to treat him!
WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT AND BELIVE IN YOU CUTLER AND SOO DOES EVERY REAL BRONCO FAN!
monodono…I was not at the event. Mike
Thanks Mike it sounds like it was fun.
wildace69, if Cutler doesn’t man up I will never believe in Him, He will become the enemy on some other team. With that being said I hope He does.

Man up that is.
yo what up Broncos Country? 100% correct monodono. “Man up!!”. Time for a change, huh? I said about 3 weeks ago that Cutler wasn’t the 2nd coming of Elway, but of Jeff George. am I right or am I right? Not returning phone calls, expects to be wined+dined, sell’n his condo+house…come on…read the writing on the wall. Cutler does not want to be in Denver!!!! So…get rid of him. ASAP. Eveyone seems to be worried ’bout the Cutler issue. “Who’s going to be our QB if we trade the “all-star” Cutler?” What happened in New England last year? Didn’t McD take a virtual unknown QB=Cassel and make him a starter in the NFL? who heard of Cassel before ’08? Nobody. I say we trade Cutler ASAP. I think the reason McD is so bold about his decisions is that he sees something in Simms that we don’t. maybe this kid can play?! Maybe he will work in the system that McD will implement?! Cutler is a pre-madonna, but he showed class by helping out the fund raiser. He might be a good guy, but I don’t think he wants to play for the Broncos. End of discussion. Cassel managed the game. I know he struggled in Sept-Oct. I’m sure Simms will too. But…we have an Amazing OL+hopefully our RB’s will step up. I think they will. We have a superstar young WR in Royal. Proven (unless he’s suspended for 4-8 games) stud in BMarsh. Graham is a leader+worker. I think our O will be fine w/out Cutler. Cutler will be a cancer in the locker room. He will get his buddy-Sheffler (great young TE) and will divide the O from the coaching staff. Time to let go of bad baggage. Move on in ’09!!! am I right or am I right?! Punches n Bunches

TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
OK i’m pissed. Yes its about cutler. Ive been a broncos fan as long as i can remember and if cutler goes so do I. Bowlen hasn’t taken into account his losses from this deal. Both in lost fans and revenues. you can call me a fair weather fan but its in Cutler i trust, not McDaniel. so i may be wearing a different jersey come the fall, just like my boy. and i’m proposing a boycott until the top brass has appeased cutler. and publicly stated that he is the future of the organization. Whos with me!!!!!!!!! Cutler fan for life.
I am with you ProQ.. McD,”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.. why in heck were you messing with your QB???.. the defense needed work.. not your QB.. Bronco fans don’t care about your boys you want to bring in.
Jay..please stay in Denver!!!.. McD is a rookie coach and you are the proven one with experience now. He made a mistake and he knows it I am sure. I don’t blame you for not trusting him now, but you never know if you will just trade one set of problems for another if you leave now. Like many SEC fans I became a Broncos fan when you landed there. Now I am not only a Jay Cutler fan, but a Broncos fan as well. Denver needs you now. They are stuck for now with a coach who has shown he is wet behind the ears, and a newbie GM as well.
Whatever you decide Jay I, like many others, will still be your biggest fans..I just hope you will give them another chance and remain a Bronco!!!
Here’s the perfect trade, Jim. (I’m giving up. Jay’s gone.) Leinert/ Watson/Boldin for Cutler/Sheffler/BMarsh. We’d have decent competing lefties at QB, the run stuffing NT we need so bad, and swap one talented head case receiver for another. (Fresh starts!) ‘Zona gets Jay (who I believe will put this crap behind him and still be an amazing asset), Tony (who they NEED), and a soon-to-be suspended Marshall across from steady influence Fitzgerald. Both QBs get someone they already throw to, no salary caps get slapped, and both teams get to draft into their position of need. There you go – lemonade. I’ll depend on you to pass that along, Jim, and I’ll expect to see it in the papers (oops, paper) next week. (Ha)
Joe Theismann’s Thoughts About McJaygate
Broncoland, The Denver Post writes, is divided. Half is “irked at the audacity” of new coach Josh McDaniels, while the other is “infuriated” with how quarterback Jay Cutler commented that he felt betrayed when the notion that he could be traded surfaced. Former Washington quarterback Joe Theismann likes Cutler’s “moxie” but asks him to consider 1981, the year before Washington won the Super Bowl, when the team drafted quarterback Tom Flick in the fourth round. “How ticked do you think I was? What I did, instead of getting upset with management, I worked harder. I worked longer. I made absolutely sure who the starting quarterback was going to be in Washington. I would like to see Jay Cutler, instead of focusing on rhetoric, go to work, improve his set of skills and become a better football player. Because he’s not going anywhere.”
AMEN brother and i hope your right
