The footballs will be flying Thursday night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Big House will be open for business again.
The Broncos will hold their evening practice at INVESCO Field at Mile High. I’m not sure how long it has been since they have held a training camp practice there, but it seems like it has been a while.
“We are all looking forward to going down there,” Broncos’ head coach Josh McDaniels said. “Usually during this time of training camp, you get rejuvenated by going down there, putting the lights on and being in the stadium. It is a fun thing for all of us. Everybody is looking forward to it, and I hope there is a good turnout. I hope we put on a good show.”
McDaniels said the Broncos will do a lot of work making this workout seem like a game.
“(There will be) a lot of teamwork (and) coaches off of the field in the booth, so we are going to simulate, as much as we can, a game-type setting and scenario for our players and staff because we haven’t done this together yet. We don’t want the first time that it happens to be in San Francisco. (There are) a lot of exciting things to go into practice tomorrow. There will be some live contact and hitting”
For rookies and veterans alike, Thursday night’s practice at INVESCO Field will mark another step towards the regular season. It will be a new experience for quarterback Chris Simms, who hasn’t yet gone through a practice in his team’s stadium before.
“In Tampa, we would maybe during OTAs or minicamp go to the (stadium),” Simms said. “But to go there tomorrow night under the lights a little bit, that’s going to be fun. I think the guys are going to be real excited to do that.”
Second-year wide receiver Eddie Royal is also among those looking forward to the big show at INVESCO.
“Any time you go in that stadium you get a little more excitement,” Royal said. “It’s going to be great. I can’t wait to get out there.”
Many of the Broncos’ rookies are also eager to get on the home field. Cornerback Alphonso Smith is ready.
“I’m pretty excited,” Smith admitted. “I’ve only been there once and that was for Fan Fest. I can’t speak for everyone but for me it’ll be a pretty exciting practice.”
Rookie safety Darcel McBath agrees.
“I’m excited to get over there and actually get a little (action) going,” McBath said.
Hope you can be on hand for the event. It should be great. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and practice will start at 6 p.m. Parking is free.
The Broncos will release their first depth chart on Monday. I’ll have thoughts on that next week. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
Best,
Mike

Nice post Mike keep up the good work.
Thanks for the updates and all of the info Mike. I really wished I could be there to see the practice!!!
u guys have to read this. i hope knowshon reads this, and decides to sign, instead of waiting for crabtree too sign.

by the ay Mike great information, i am excited to hear how that practice at Mile High goes.
BroncoAussie, broncosfreak30 and Torain ATV fan…thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them. Mike
No problem Mike, we really are grateful for any info we get of our beloved team.
Mike, what do you think of Crabtree telling niners he will re-enter the draft if they dont give him what he wants.
Torain ATV…tough to say about Crabtree. On the one hand, he could be using it for leverage to get the kind of deal he wants. At the same time, if he is not serious about following through, he shouldn’t say it.
I have to believe that a deal gets done at some point. He could hold out and re-enter the draft next year but I’d have to see it to believe it.
Mike
thanks Mike, good to see what someone with more insight thinks.
Depth Chart, ready for that!!
Ayers better start the season instead of that converted DT at OLB
I meant Reid
Cheers Mike! Good info.
One more week…
Go Broncooos!
AS A LIFE LONG BRONCO, I DONT CARE WHOS STARTS, HOLDS OUT, GETS TRADED, RETIRES, OR QUITS. I JUST WANT US TO COMPETE AND BE IN THE PLAY-OFFS , THE FANS DESERVE IT AND I’M TIRED OF THESE SO CALLED EXPERTS SAY’N WE CAN’T WIN. I’M AMPED ABOUT OUR SEASON, TIME TO SHUT’EM UP!!
djlouiscide if knowshon keeps holding out then Denver won’t be half as good as an offence, which means we won’t be competitive, meaning no playoffs
great post mike. knowshon needs to be signed soon.
cutlersucks8, I don’t really agree that just without having Knowshon in the backfield means we won’t be competitive.
Having him will add another dynamic to the offense but by no means would it down-grade it to the point of uncompetitiveness.
agreed dynasaty,
i believe torain can step it up and be a #1 back, also hillis and buckhalter should help.
wont there be pictures of the practice up?
How close are we to a deal with Knowshon?
That’s partly true, just cuz we don’t have Moreno out there doesn’t mean we won’t or can’t be competitive but as of now Torain has the starting job and it would make us more competitive to have someone like Moreno to back him up. Yeah yeah yeah, I know you don’t draft a first round RB to make him 2nd string but that’s what I would do with him if he ever decides to make a deal. He’s been a holdout from TC for almost a week now, he hasn’t done ANYTHING to earn a starting job. Torain has been working his butt off and he’s doing one heck of a job to prove he should start. I’d love nothing more than to see Torain start… too much talent there to be sitting on a bench.
I haven’t heard much of anything on Moreno. I read on DP it could be another week till he gets signed. I don’t know if my little heart can take much more of this.
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
who knows broncochick, according to Adam Schefter, which most people trust, he believed deal would be done this morning, but yet no confirmation.
if he takes a week, it will hurt him 2 much. He has missed 11 and counting practices out of 27. WOW. after tonight it will be 12.
ill be there for sure!!! its gonna be awsome!!
i agree with 07 elway, too many first round picks come into the league and think that they deserve a starting role just because they were high picks… im not saying moreno is one of those, in fact most of the interviews i saw him in he seemed pretty humble but who knows. torrain in my eyes so far deserves the nod. let the battle at tailback begin once moreno gets into camp.
GO BRONCOS
@07E..and Rayj.. per reports from camp Ryan has been the most impressive. I also think Buck will be just fine as a bu. Jordan may have issues with fumbling.
I have gotten the impression that Coach McD does not care about draft position. Jack is running in front of Phonze and Josh is ‘showing up’ more than Darcel or David.
I think RB is fine, even if it takes until the end of pre-season for Knowshon to break into #1.
What I am really excited about is to hear/read that Tim Crowder is with the 1′s at OLB. We need two to impress and I think Ayers is the other.
i thought David was ahead of Darcel and Josh
Yeah i was right.
POSITIONING: With Dawkins out, David Bruton took the majority of first team reps. The rest of the offense and defense stayed pretty much the same as previous days.
Wish I could attend tonights practice. But about Knowshon, I read an article recently that talked about how this is one of the 2 or 3 times (at the most) that these guys have any leverage whatsoever in negotiating their contracts. While I don’t agree with OUR players holding out, you can kind of understand how one player (Crabtree) can really hold up the rest. If it were me, I’d sign the offer that was given to me. But that’s easy for me to say when I’m supporting a family living paycheck to paycheck. If Crabtree does get some blockbuster deal, and Knowshon had already signed for way less, that would be $ down the drain that he’d never see. Unfortunately, alot of people have a me first mentality and when it comes to making big bucks, that beast rears its ugly head. I still don’t understand why most teams and players wait for 3-4 months before getting a deal done. Hopefully with the next CBA, they’ll have salary slotted picks with an average increase per year. Cause this is getting ridiculous.
Good points dlmyers- I believe your right Torain ATV fan about the safety depth chart as of today.
I’ve studied the Broncos, in-depth, for the last five years, hell I should be on the coaching staff. As technology has improved, so have my studies and research.
Anyway, I really love the new direction the organization is heading in. For a long long long time, thanks to Shanny (no doubt, a great coach), we have not tuned into what the “New NFL” is about.
That is athletic physicality on the frontline, not finesse players like Jarvis Moss. Coach McD knows his sh#T MAN!!! He’s a fanatic student of the game and understands what the “New NFL” is all about TODAY.
We may not get to where we want to be in ONE season, but did anyone expect the prior regime to get us there this year, I sure in the hell didn’t. Yet, I believe the “New” regime has us in the correct mind set to get us there sooner than the prior would have. Broncos fan must practice patients, give it three years. That is, to make a serious push for a championship. Look forward to getting better every year until then.
As far as the Moreno signing is concerned, when he gets here it will be a plus to an already talented offense. For now, be supportive. DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE as loud as you can, they’ll need our support to become great.
May ’09 be Devine
Broncos Rule!!!!!!
well said OG,
i hope we make the playoffs, i hope we win the SB,
but I will be happy with seeing progress and picking up players next year through free agency and draft picks to complete us. You have to give the Coach an opportunity to show what he has and how he evaluates players. one year to fix shanny’s “D” disaster is too much too ask, but hopefully he gets her done (larry the cable guy).
