The speculation has ended. Brandon Marshall will not play for the Broncos any more. On Wednesday, the Broncos traded Marshall to the Dolphins for Miami’s second-round draft pick this year and in 2011.
There is little doubting Marshall’s immense talent as a wide receiver. You don’t make 307 catches for 3,710 yards and 23 touchdowns in the last three seasons by accident. The guy can play. And he can dominate.
Marshall has been the most reliable and most talented skill position player on the Broncos’ offense the last several years.
He has also been the most disgruntled. While his production was a bright spot, his conduct did not rise to the same level. That was tough to watch.
For whatever reasons, Marshall and Coach Josh McDaniels never got on the same page. One could speculate and debate as to why and who, if anyone, ultimately bears the bigger burden for that. But in my opinion, that doesn’t accomplish much.
The fact is, the relationship wasn’t working and wasn’t going to work in the future. Sometimes that happens in life. Given those circumstances, the Broncos did well to get a pair of second-round draft picks.
“I’m pleased the way it went down,” McDaniels said of the trade on Wednesday afternoon. “I’m happy and excited for Brandon to have an opportunity to do something he’s wanted to do. And I’m also excited about the opportunities that we’re going to be presented (with) here in the coming weeks with the draft and continuing to build our team and our roster the way that we want to do it.”
It is clear that the way Coach McDaniels wants to build a team does not include Brandon Marshall. I can respect that, just like I can respect the fact that Marshall felt he was deserving of a new contract. It is more difficult to understand the way Marshall went about expressing his displeasure. But we all make choices.
“The situation was what it was,” McDaniels added. “I think we worked it the best way that we could so that all of us could get what we were looking for.”
Given that the situation was not going to work, I believe the Broncos did well to get some value back. It was clear teams were not going to put an offer sheet in front of Brandon and risk losing a first-round pick.
There are plenty of second-round picks who have had terrific NFL careers. There are also plenty who did not have much of a career at all. Time will tell how good of a deal this turns out to be. Time will tell which team, if any, came out better.
What are your thoughts about the trade? I enjoy reading your posts and ask that you please keep comments appropriate in nature.

i agree with most of you we all know Marshall was a Huge talent. But what he had in talent he lacked brains sometimes. I’m in total support Of the Broncos and coach MCD. Im in management for a huge company and manage lots of people. So i can say i know little something dealing with people. I had a situation where i had a employee that was the best of the best. but his only problem was that he had a bad attitude. that filterd down to my other employees. which in turn made it hard to run a company. Eventually i had to let the employee go because it didnt benfit him or the other employees to have him around I could of looked the other way and just let the situation get worse because he was a good worker. But he gone now and people perform much better with out him there. So im thinking MCD was in kind of the same situation where he would of loved to keep Marshall but at the same time he had to do what was best for the Broncos
I view Marshall the same way I viewed Cutler when he wanted out. Well, it’s a shame, we really like your talent, but if your going to whine and destroy the fluidity of the team then we will just have to part ways. Who knows, maybe Cutler will be the best QB ever. Maybe Marshall will compete for Rice’s spot in the Hall. That being said, I for one and happy to see both of them out of Denver. Ask anyone who had T.O. play for them how much he help the TEAM succeed.
guess we get to “move on” from sheff also………..
What was one of the most explosive offenses is now completely dismantled.
An explosive offense? It was more like (blown up) offenses they had talent but Cutler Marshell and a couple of others thought they were the only ones that mattered. It is all about team work and these player wanted to get paid, and be held in high reguard for what they could do, not for what they have done. Talent? yes but it also takes leadership and a strong will to win. Every one seems to forget the fact that Jay Cutler is the int. king of the NFL! Marshell is a beast (on the feild) but sadly he is (off the feild ) as well he had to go!
I think that teams are built with talent, and Brandon has it, you can not get rid of a talented player and dominant for a second round, please know that if there are players who have won a great race to be elected in these rounds but That is why the player turned out to have the star cararteristicas they do in the NFL. But we are sure a better player than Brandon? . But even that is dominant?
