One game does not make a season. But it can be cause for some concern. Such is the place where the Broncos find themselves, at least to some degree.
The bottom line is the Ravens dominated the Broncos last weekend. There is no getting around that.
But it’s one game. It’s not a trend; it’s not a pattern; it’s not necessarily the start of the Broncos’ demise. There is no need to call Chicken Little.
All together now…breathe in deeply…hold it for a moment…slowly exhale. The Broncos are still 6-1. Last I checked, that’s pretty good.
When the Broncos won six straight games to being the season, many people probably thought that would continue. But nobody who follows the NFL believes a team will go undefeated.
The Ravens simply had to win that game. They were 3-3 and had lost three consecutive games. They were at home. They have a huge road game against a division opponent (Cincinnati) on Sunday, November 8.
As a result, the Ravens played with utter desperation. The fact is it is hard to match that desperation and urgency when a team is 6-0…and on the road…and facing a talented team. Those aren’t excuses. Those are the facts of life in the NFL.
The big question now is: Where do the Broncos go from here?
I believe the Broncos will return to their winning ways. Why?
First, the fact is they lost one road game to a really good team. It seems to me the Patriots, for example, were in that position after they left Invesco Field at Mile High. Just because the Broncos lost one game doesn’t mean they’ll lose another two or three or four in a row. It also doesn’t mean a freefall is imminent.
Certainly the loss to the Ravens brought some areas to light that the Broncos need to shore up. Let’s give them the chance to show whether or not they make those improvements before assuming the season is going down the drain.
Next, the Broncos have given ample evidence that they are a good team. They won their first six games. They dominated clearly inferior teams such as the Browns and Raiders. They found ways to beat good teams like the Cowboys and Patriots. They came up with a really good road win over the division-rival Chargers. One loss, as bad as it was, doesn’t render those wins flukes.
In addition, the Broncos’ defense is still playing well. Even though the offense sputtered and put the defense in some tough spots against the Ravens, the Broncos only trailed 6-0 at halftime. It didn’t get out of hand until the fourth quarter.
Good defense keeps a team in a game. I don’t believe the Broncos’ defense is any worse than it was two weeks ago.
Also, I have to believe that with last week’s loss and the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town for Monday Night Football, the Broncos will play with higher levels of desperation and urgency this week. Doing so won’t guarantee a win but it won’t hurt.
You might as well put on your seat belt now. The season has turned interesting for the Broncos. But don’t pick up the phone just yet. Chicken Little isn’t home right now.
What do you make of the loss to the Ravens and how do you think the Broncos will respond? Thanks for reading and posting, too.
Sincerely,
Mike

1st…..
Its not a big deal we lost 1 game. Who ever would’ve thought they would go 6-0? Who thought they would beat the Chargers at home on Monday Night?
The Broncos will be jus fine…
With better execution and not playing outside ourselves Monday Night it will be a great game. Too many people have assumed the Chicago mentality about Orton. It is a shame considering how consistent his play has been minus last week. After that’s been said it wasn’t a performance you shake your head at. Fact is he didn’t lose the game last week. It was a game that showed what happens when a team is better prepared than another. I can sense the McDaniels knows this and will not be caught in that situation again. If he sleeps more than 4 to 5 hours a night this week I would be shocked.
McD will have a good gameplan prepared for Monday night, and if we execute it we will win because that’s what he does, and as for Orton, it shouldn’t fall on his shoulders because we lost last week, the poor guy barely had time to take a snap.We gotta block better and give him time to throw the ball, especiall the long pass you gotta give him time. But I garantee they won’t be better prepard than us this week!!I think we’ve beaten Pittsburgh like 3 outta 4?GO BRONCS 7-1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not worried one bit. I kind of broke down the rest of the season yesterday (I’ll get to the Ravens loss and Steelers game in a bit). We are 6-1 and have 4 games remaining against very beatable teams, 2 with the Chiefs, 1 with the Raiders and 1 with the Redskins. That would put us at 10 wins and potential AFC West Champs. Now sprinkle in the home games vs. San Diego and the Giants and a road game vs. the Eagles and if we win 2 of those 3 we have 12 wins. I like where we are at! Now the Ravens loss was a loss and that’s that. Mike you hit right on the head when you said “the Broncos only trailed 6-0 at halftime. It didn’t get out of hand until the fourth quarter” very true, I didn’t throw in the towel until Mason scored but up until then I was confident we could come back! So we are at 6-1 with the Steelers coming to town for a crucial Monday Night Game, I truly believe we win this game.
I believe with this game we are out to show the country that last week was a fluke and that we are for real, again! Also we are tough on Monday Night games at home, the team we’ll be up for this game and the fans need to be as raucous as possible. I can’t wait for Monday Night, Go Broncos!
Not worried at all! I do want to see a more open and explosive offense. Scheffler down the middle, Eddie and B-Marsh up the sidelines, the works. Gotta SPREAD that Pitt defense! That was the ONLY thing missing from the Baltimore game… B-Marsh running 5 yard patterns???? Eddie running 6 yard hitches??? He’s a SPEED guy! Send them deep! Not gonna work against a terrific defense.
LET’S GO BRONCOS!!! Can’t WAIT for Monday Night!
The Ravens r a good team, but so r we. I believe they came out on top yes because there was that urgency and desperation and it was so obvious. Their home crowd also made them drive that much harder. We didn’t have that motivation (don’t get me wrong, we did have motivation but just not as dramatic as the Ravens) and that I believe is where our downfall was this past weekend.
Now we move on. Let the loss go……
Monday night’s game will bring with it a very high level of determination (not desperation bcuz we r not desperate, we r a good team). I also believe that being at home brings a powerful vice to the game, with us in particular. The fans pump the team up to an endless degree.
This is going to be a fantastic game……can’t wait til MONDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!
Gameday is on the way. Nuff said!!
It’s kind of funny how since we lost a game we are automatically the underdog of every game. BUT THAT’S HOW WE LIKE IT, RIGHT GUYS? We can show the league for the seventh time this year how we can break down some of the biggest opponents.
LET’S EAT THEIR LUNCH, BOYS!
I hope our defense” LAYS THE WOOD” to the Steelers.I love me some pain especially on Hines Ward.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although we were dominated in that game, I think that’s what we needed in the midst of this tougher part of the schedule. Perhaps now we’ll play with a little more urgency, you know, kinda like the Ravens did last week. 1 loss isn’t the end of the world, but I would say that the ol’ bandwagon is a tad bit lighter. And nobody’s complaining about that.
Broncos 28 Pitt 20
I’m not gonna guess a score, because I made a whole schedule calendar and I made the scores WAY too high, so I’m just gonna quit.
27-20
All I can say to Pittsburgh fans is don’t sing it bring it.I’m tired of hearing we are overachievers. It’s time to play the Game!!!You better bring the wood because you know we will!!!!!!!!GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 loss is one loss like everyone said if we finish the season 12-4 that would be our best record in a long time. I dont expect us to win em all but that would be awesome if we did. I think our d is great and the only reason why the 4th qtr got outta hand was our offence couldnt stay on the feild. our d got tired. eh it happens. I see us barely excaping with a win monday night. and if we lose it’ll be by a feild goal or something. i project the score to be broncs 13 steelers 10 maybe 23-20 we will see. Lets finsk the season 15-1!! go on and be super bowl champs and orton be MVP so everyone who doubted him can get junk punched hahahaha!!!
lets go broncs!!!!!!
finish the season sorry
WOW!!! The first time I’ve seen a blog without Baylinorcrush writing a book in it. Does that guy ever shut the *&%^ up?
We signing Ty Law if he passes his physical….I wonder how that will work out…any thoughts????????????????????????????
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_13730277
I see we signed Ty Law.
What do you guys think Law brings to Denver? I think He’s another great veteran presence. He may not be a great player anymore but he can certainly help. Alphonso must be the luckiest rookie CB ever.
I thought u guys were jokin about Ty Law…lol What the freak do we need Ty Law for? who knows, i thought we had good depth on secondary. Maybe its a good price and he provides veteran experience. It’s all good, i guess..they’ll start callin us the Denver Patriots soon. Good thing we didn’t get Cassel…holy crap would that have been a real wanna be Pats squad. Maybe we can get Vinnie Testiverdi while we’re at it
…Just Jokin …relax Baylinor
Anyone else hear anything about Ty Law joining Denver?
Classic game coming up Monday!!!
I have a feeling the outcome of this game will contribute GREATLY to the type of momentum we will have to carry us through the rest of the season.
I hope to see our second half defense’s domination return and amplified!
I just wonder who gets the axe with Ty Law being signed?
Thanks for the post!
rollinwitnolan,
I like balynorcrush and reading his take on things. If you don’t want to partake in his say then just pass over his quotes. There’s no need to put the man down.
Yeah the young corners will have lots of mentorship, but lucky??, not if Alphonso doesn’t get to play because of it. There’s a lot of good young rookie corners playing right now and being a impact, i was hoping to see Smith rotating more. We gave a 1st rnd for him. I wanna see those skills in action, ..but i guess it’s good not too rush it and have em learn at the expense of givin up big plays, although i can’t help but want to see Smith, Ayres & Moreno playing now.
We picked him up cuz the 3rd wr killed us last week. This week we got their rookie Wallace. He has been killing the league as of late. I wonder who we let go though?? Let me check out NFL.com.
Ty Lax to Denver…
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4629892
Ty Law must pass his physical and then will be signed to the Broncos. I would think maybe Moss looses a roster spot?
I say we take all the good veterans we can get. Can’t never have too much leadership especially guys that have been in the playoffs a lot.Ijust wonder what kind of role he will play.Surely he’ll be in some kind of backup, or dime package or something???We have great starters.
If anybody has to go I’d rather it be Jordan,Idon’t know why we even sighned him with all the RBs we had, should’ve kept Ryan Torain!!
lol@Ty Law pick up! Goodman better stop fooling around over there. He keep getting exposed. He gonna be the nickle backer. lol
As they say in the ESPN article Law is a saavy veteran. Maybe that’s why McD brought him in. He knows some little things that maybe Smith and Williams haven’t picked up on yet. We’ll see what happens…
YEA, Ty Law is a BEAST!! I am glad we picked him up even though it will probably be for the rest of the year!! That’s exactly what the New York Jets did last year and he played really good still!!
GOOO BRRRROOOONNNCCCCOOSSS!
I don’t see him being a starter over Goodman but he would be great cvering the third receiver though.Everybody talkin’bout him being old and slow on NFL.com,but personaly I would love to see him come here and play.Champ,Dawkins,Goodman,Hill,Phonzie,McBath,Bruton, good God almighty we’ll be set in the secondary for sure good move MCD!!!!
Doesn’t say who we got rid of. It probably come out later on today or tomorrow.
Sup UUB!! I told myself let me say something to you. Before you start talking to yourself. lmao
I SAY BRING HIM ABOARD AND SEE WHAT HE’S GOT LEFT.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!
I was just about to type to myself too. lol
This is what I have been waiting for all year. This is my time. This is my Super Bowl. I have been looking for a reason to get rid of Jordan. I look all over the waiver wires. Didn’t see anyone suitable. Now like a ray of sunshine.(aaaaaaah) Ty Law has come to do what no has done yet. Make a reason to cut Jordan. lol
No one has done yet. Sorry. I just ruined my moment! lol
BeastFromEast92, for the sake of the pick contest, I got you down for you earlier pick this week, 24 -20.
As for rollinwitnolan, amazing, never see you post, but I get you riled up enough to come out and make a comment about me, not one with a lot of class, but one nonetheless, I’m honored. Who knows, soon you might be able to add a post here about football, we are all looking forward to it.
Goodman has been playing well. He got caught a couple times. Hey who doesn’t? I has not cost us so no crying over spilled milk. Only thing I really see was the dallas game. If romo would have looked to the otherside. We would have beat them in overtime. Instead of taking over on downs.
On another note. Where did Miles Austin come from? Was he one of the contestants on Micheal Irvin reality show.? 4and10 I think it was called.
Another note of big consequences, Sanders out for the year for the Colts. That guy is a one man wrecking crew, one less thing to worry about.
Naw he was just like Rod Smith. Free agent rookie pick up. That stayed on the squad and worked his way up. When they were doing Hard Knocks. He was on there.
I know on the Sanders situation it was only a matter of time. He play like Chuck Cecil, Atwater, D.Smith, and Lott. His body isn’t built that way though. It’s breaking down for sure. He either gonna have to change or retire.
My bad! I should have put a lol at the end. I really wasn’t serious. lol
Anyone who plays across from Champ is gonna look bad. But that’s because people are afraid to throw at Champ. And I’m not sure how much Law has left in the tank. He has great intelligence of the game, but his body might let him down. He’s older and don’t have the speed he used to. I hope he proves me wrong though. And we need to throw the ball down the field more. The Ravens figured out that we don’t do that, like at all and killed us on it.
Ok Ok You got me Black Dynamite aka Greatness! lol
For some reason when I look at the fans at home games. I always think I’m gonna see Hillis father with a sign.”Put my boy in the game.” lol
Sorry Baylin guess i posted score twice, having trouble posting last night and today, but 24-20 sounds good to me.lol
Law is not here to take Goodman’s job… its williams and smith who is not stepping up… they’ve been getting burn on a lot of plays
I don’t mind losing a few games especially on the road but home games are essential and the offense needs to play with some since of urgency like the Raven’s possessed last Sunday.
this game can start to seperate Denver from the rest of the pack as a legitimate Super bowl contender.
umm yeah Williams got torched a lil last weekend but not Smith, he’s just injured, but I LOVE THE Ty Law pickup, I think he’s here to matchup with the good Big TE’s that our two lil nickel corners cant
Let’s get back to our winning ways. Monday’s as good a time as any to make the Steelers 5-3. GO BRONCOS!!!
