While any win is a good win in the NFL, defeating the winless Miami Dolphins is hardly a major accomplishment. Sure, the Broncos will take the win, but this week, things should get really interesting when they face the Detroit Lions.
Detroit is loaded with offensive weapons and defensive playmakers.
If the Broncos play like they did in the first 53 minutes last Sunday against the Dolphins, my guess is they’ll be trailing by more than 15 points. It’s time for Tim Tebow and the offense to take some steps forward.
“We have a long way to go, I think,” offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said this week. We need to do a lot better job in the passing game, number one. We have to get off to a faster start. Tim has got to do a better job early in the game of trusting the system, going through his progressions and just executing the system the way it’s supposed to be done.”
The Broncos’ offense will have its hands full trying to deal with the Lions’ defensive front. Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh dominates inside and grabs the headline. Suh has three sacks, as does fellow defensive lineman Cliff Avril. A third defensive lineman, Kyle Vanden Bosch, leads the team with four sacks.
As much as Tebow might need to do a better job of executing, the Broncos’ offensive line has a huge test. And if they don’t pass it, the day could get really long for the guys in orange and blue.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence in what they’ve been doing,” McCoy said of the guys up front. “They’ve done a nice job all year long. We’re going to be as successful as our offensive line allows us to be.”
And on the other side of the ball, the Broncos’ defense has to be ready for quarterback Matthew Stafford (assuming he is healthy enough to play), wide receiver Calvin Johnson and others. The Lions average 27.7 points per game, third in the NFL. They can strike with the big play at any time.
“That’s really what we needed to be aware of and (will) be critical to our success on defense (to) make sure that we limit those explosive plays down the field. When they get in the red zone, we’ve got to do a good job and understand who the threats are,” said Broncos’ defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
The Broncos did a good job of doing those things last week Miami. But the competition level dramatically increases when the Lions come to town.
Therein lies the challenge. For all of the attention generated by the recent change at quarterback, the Broncos will need to play well as a team to beat the dangerous Lions. If they can get a win, then perhaps the hoopla truly has some substance.
What do you think will happen on Sunday? Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.
Best,
Mike

I see a low scoring game here if Champ can come thru and atleast hold it down covering Megatron, I just hope TT can relax abit in the first quarter and get our running game going.
Detroit 20 Denver 10
More like “Into the horses stable” because they are coming to OUR HOUSE.
If people thought the crowd got loud in miami for Tebow on the road .. IMAGINE AT HOME. I expect the place to be rocking … they got so loud in that chargers game and the team feeds off that kinda energy and support. I think our key to victory starts there … Make alot of noise … and hopefully the altitude and our team will do the rest.
We have to bring pressure on Stafford … the guy is brittle and looks like he fears injury … and playing hurt … he will be paniced and in a hurry … I see him throwing 2 INTS and getting sacked about 5.
Tebows gotta start of hot … and whethers thats in the shotgun … throwing screens and quick slants … we need to get him feeling it. Get him in rhythm, get him pumped and confident. Gotta start strong … even if its with gimme completions. Gotta no huddle alot … in our altitude the D will be sucking for air plus Tebow clearly hates structure and loves chaos so the no huddle is good for him. The coaches need to have faith that even if he didn’t practice it right … that they can call the play and believe he will complete it. Practice is too structured .. not enough chaos .. but when he is runnign around in a real game and extending plays … thats when he makes plays … and when u extend plays thats how coverages get blown.
Im looking for this team to make a statement that if not this year … next year we are gonna be contending for the divisional championship and soon enough playoffs and beyond … I want people to understand that this team is not as bad, and neither is our QB. Under Tebow they will fight till the end.
They all just keep “BELIEVING” … and when you got people buying in … the product is a thing of beauty.
Go Broncos. Later days, TRB
TRB, you hit it right on the head about the crowd, we need to get into it right from the start, we gotta get crazy loud when Lions have the ball. I also agree totally about getting off to fast start, maybe implement some bubble screens and I also think a few shovel passes could work. Well said
just seen all this tebowing. what does everyone think about it. are they mocking him or what. but then i see broncos fans doing it. not sure what to make of it.
there paying tribute to tebow the guy who created it said.. if von miller posted a pic like that…
my score prediction Den 20 Det 17
Yea clady … we dont shovel pass alot .. I think that would be very effective agaisnt a very aggressive Detroit lions front 7 … that and RB draws … kills em alot because they are so aggressive going after the QB. Shovels would be kinda tough with QB spys tho.

Interview with the dude who started Tebowing … hilaroius … one question was … Can Kyle Orton Tebow? LOL .. the internet age is truly amazing .. how something can go viral so quickly in like 1 day lol. Trending all over Twitter and Tebow twitted that he approves of Tebowing lol. So Tebow is a verb now as well … if he can become a verb … I believe he can succeed in the NFL.
ps: Moss was/is a verb … at least it was when I was growing up around my area.
Later days, TRB
anybody heard the Tebow song going around?? it’s called Super Fans, its ginda catchy if your into the rap game lol

Sorry Bay for being right – 10 to 9 in the 11th Cards win it. You gotta deal with Texas for another whole day. I know it isn’t football but lots of drama in this one.
Last time I caught the score the Rangers were ahead 7-4,man did they blow it!!!!!!!!!
db,I wouldn’t apologize to bay for being right, because most of the time he is,hang around you’ll see,LOL!!!!!!
Yep – Cards won
I don’t think Bay cares about the game – just the nutty people. I think he was hoping it would be over and they would be happy about baseball and leave football alone.
Not so fast – but the rain out did help both team preserve pitchers.
Still think the Cards will win out – Texas will take 2nd place 2 years in a row.
Just saw all the pictures of “Tebowing” haha funny stuff!
I’m an Angel fan and don’t even watch baseball except playoffs unless Angels are doing well. I do like Pujols though. I’m a sucker for athletes that Tebow. (verb)
Chuck Norris was just Tebowing….
cladybunch, 1st you take my coveted #2 spot then you trick me into hearing that horrible attempt at a “song” LMAO (I know they have got to be joking, right? lol) you’re making my week even worse than it already was lol jk… congrats on “kicking me to the curb,” as bay put it. LMFAO… and with the Tebowing thing HA! that is just unreal I remember when planking was huge this is outta hand! Funny stuff…
-Royalty
thank you clay for the chuck norris j oke.been too long since I laughed at a post
Well….Doom’s chance of playing Sunday seem to be getting slimmer and slimmer, while Staffrod’s chances seem to be getting better and better. I know it is Doom’s first year back but I mean, he gets paid, he’s out for a season, and this season he back at DE and he hasn’t done anything and he’s been injured. Maybe he need to go back to WLB or something?
Anyway I figure I can make my prediction because it isn’t going to matter much if Stafford starts or not. If we can’t get a pass rush then any QB can pick on our defense.
Broncos: 13
Lions: 20
Doom was a player I was so excited about having on our team……..and since he’s gotten paid, he’s played how many games? UGHHHH
So dishearting…………
The worst thing about trying to predict this game is I have no idea what Offense is going to show up for our Broncos…..
Will it be the horrible one we had to endure for 55 minutes last game, or a much improved version……….or a slightly improved version……..
I think our D can slow the Lions down, since they will be somewhat one-dimensional……..and hold them to FG’s……….that is if Champ can shadow megatron all game long. I think he’s up to the challenge.
But I think Schef will be the X Factor in this game………we are horrible at covering TE’s and he will want to have a monster game back in his old stadium.
Hopefully Moreno and Ball, coupled with some of Tebow running the ball can help make us not one dimensional. In all seriousness if we play 55 minutes of bad football again it could potentially be a blowout. These aren’t the Lions of old, they’re far more improved than some think.
Tebow did help us win a game so I guess my expectations for the season are somewhat fulfilled. Now it just seeing our Team improve week to week.
I’m hoping to see more screens, bootlegs, and playaction………and if Tebow can ever become more accurate throwing……….look out! lol
Absolutely correct, I have very little interest for baseball, usually will watch only the last two or three games of the World series, when things finally get to be on the line, can’t even watch the first couple, and I don’t care who is in it, no favorite team whatsoever but I felt for the Texas fans all around here, I mean if they couldn’t pull this series out after being up a couple times by two runs needing only a strike to end up the game and couldn’t do it, it’s just not meant to be, supernatural forces against them seems like, plus first time I saw their manager but his coaching decisions were idiotic, a complete moron, surprising they’ve gone that far, they will have to count on a miracle, just like us, LOL.
Maybe Tebow is talking to the big man upstairs when he’s “Tebowing” asking for a miracle. LOL!
What a wild game last night. The Rangers should have finished off the Cards, insane. One bloody strike away. I would have thrown a waste pitch in the dirt.
Funny, the Detroit OC going where I went yesterday, saying don’t worry so much about megatron since Bailey will take care of him but rather pay attention to the TEs:
With OC Linehan anticipating Johnson to draw the double coverage, Lions’ tight ends could have more opportunities than usual over the middle in the passing game, especially with going against a relatively young linebacking corp., as well as rookie Rahim Moore on the other side of Dawkins.
“At the end of the day, I think the tight ends have a lot of production in the passing game,” said Linehan. “I would hope that doesn’t change this weekend.”
In particular, Brandon Pettigrew has been a primarty target for quarterback Matthew Stafford and is currently second on the team in receiving yards with 352 (behind Johnson’s 679) and has caught 38 receptions for two touchdowns.
“One of the the things that he wanted to improve on and we talked about improving on was consistently catching the ball,” said Linehan. “He’s really been able to do that. I can’t think of a time off hand where he didn’t catch it. He’s been pretty much money when we’ve been throwing him the ball.”
The Broncos won’t cover, Detroit wins 23-17, no guarantee, haha.
Now that we have “Tebowing”, I wonder what this was called back in the 60’s and 70’s, or the 80’s or 90’s when the players from both teams would meet at the 50 and kneel for a prayer. Or any number of receivers or runners, that kneel down in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. This is something that has been done ever since I can remember and now since Tebow has done this, and national TV has shown it, some kind of big deal is being made of it. I am apparently missing something here but just don’t know what it is.
With the help of some Mile High Magic…………
Lions: 20
Broncos: 23
I would think that they would be using Miller a little more crashing through to the qb trying to disrupt the backfield a bit more than they have. Wasn’t that his specialty in college?
We need to do something to get some pressure on the QB!!! The more time he has, the more seared our D will be from all of the torching.
I’m now going to be Orange Crushing through Sunday AM, so this to remind everyone the deadline to enter your score prediction for the Lions game is tomorrow, Saturday, midnight blog time, no picks on game day, no exception. I will gather them all up when I come back to shore, later on Bronco fans!
Have a safe voyage bay…………..see you on here when you’re back.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
Have a wonderful time bay! Bring home some fish.
Weatherman – I think what you might be missing is that after the Miami game, when Prater kicked the game-winning field goal, the entire team was jumping up, and celebrating. The cameras happened to catch Tebow’s reaction, which was to kneel and give thanks. The “official” definition of Tebowing: to get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different. The the act of kneeling down as teams wouldn’t be considered “Tebowing,” since they’re ALL doing it. It’s only considered Tebowing if you’re the ONLY one doing it… But yeah, it’s all pretty silly. I think it’s in good fun though; malice or harm intended.
bay you lucky dog,it’s raining and 42 degrees here!!!!!!!!
Broncos 27
Lions 23
Moreno gets on track for a 100+ yard game, yes I said it!!!!!
BFE we are still hitting the mid 80′s here in the afternoon. The mornings are pretty nice around 60 but it doesn’t last long.
lol @ BFE on KM
I’ll believe it when I see it…………and I hope to see it!
Weatherman I thought the same thing but then I said to myself whatever just let the people have their fun.
Well peeps I’m scared to go to the game this week. I’m taking my girlfriend. The last time I took her to the game was raiders @ Broncos last year. Yes THAT game when I was trying to impress her with all the Bronco lore and Mile High Mystique. This year she knows the drill. We tailgate and go in for business. She even has a beautiful Von Miller jersey to wear. Matching of course. (mine is orange, hers is blue) I’m also leary to make a prediction. At least the weather will be good.
raidrhadr if we get beat that badly again either get a new girlfriend or don’t take her to anymore games. lol.
lol raidr………..
You should just let her do the prediction for you……….
Well I’m certainly hoping that this will be different and I don’t want to hurt her feelings but if we get blown out…she’s never allowed to set foot on those grounds again. Not even for another event.
crap she just walked out the door for work. I’ll call her and ask her for it.
She did predict at half time last week that we would beat the Dolphins…
Maybe she has some bad karma and you need to do some Tebowing with her before the game to get rid of it.LOL
lol Funny marsh. I think she needs more of the jello shots we’ll be doing Sunday morning.
raidrhdr you have me afraid to make a prediction for the game
Truly though in football terms. They will be one dimensional without J Best and while I’m concerned about not being able to cover Pettigrew…I still think we can win this one…even with my girlfriend in the stands. Here it is…
Broncos 24
Lions 23
This is my pick too btw.
