Broncos Gut Out a Win

November 7th, 2008 - 1:34am by mike_rice

Just when you thought the sky was falling down on the Broncos season, they gutted out a big-time win on the road against Cleveland, 34-30 on Thursday night.

Never mind that they lost linebacker Nate Webster in the first quarter to an injury. Never mind that they lost running back Ryan Torain later to an injury. Never mind that running back Selvin Young was shaken up and couldn’t get back in the game. Never mind that tight end Tony Scheffler was, in the words of quarterback Jay Cutler, “about 75 percent” because of a groin injury.

“(It was) maybe the gutsiest win I’ve ever been associated with, considering the number of guys we had down and (the) guys stepping up who hadn’t even practiced,” head coach Mike Shanahan told 850 KOA after the game.

We are talking about a team that has now lost its top five running backs to injury: Selvin Young, Andre Hall, Michael Pittman, Ryan Torain and Anthony Alridge. Everyone knows the Broncos have to pass the ball. Yet on Thursday night, Cutler threw three fourth quarter touchdown passes, including a 93-yard strike to rookie Eddie Royal that popped the lid off an offense waiting to explode.

This was a classic example of a team doing whatever it had to do in order to win a football game. For as lethargic as the Broncos’ offense looked against Miami, it looked unstoppable in the fourth quarter against the Browns.

The Broncos’ 564 yards of total offense tied for the second-highest single game total in team history. Cutler’s 447 passing yards tied for the third-best single game total in team history.

We are also talking about a team that has lost its top three linebackers (D.J. Williams, Nate Webster and Boss Bailey), its top cornerback (Champ Bailey), and a starting safety (Marlon McCree) to injury. That’s five starters. And remember, defensive end Elvis Dumervil played with a broken finger early in the season.

So what happened with the game hanging in the balance? Dre’ Bly forced a key fourth quarter fumble, Karl Paymah recovered it and the Broncos scored eight plays later when Cutler found Daniel Graham on a 28-yard touchdown pass to give the Broncos a 27-23 lead with 9:50 left.

This team is having to grow up on the job. And against Cleveland, some guys stepped up.

Running back Peyton Hillis was admittedly rusty at tailback, but he hammered out a little over a yard on a fourth-down-and-1 situation in the fourth quarter. We saw his versatility as a pass receiver last week against Miami.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard filled in admirably at linebacker. At one point, the rookie out of Kentucky hauled down Browns’ running back Jamal Lewis and then proceeded to go jaw-to-jaw with veteran after the play. The kid was not intimidated.

I’m not sure what the rest of the season holds for the Broncos. As maddening as they can be, they are a fun team to watch because you just don’t know how they’ll play or how a game will unfold.

I know this much: They gutted out a come-from-behind win I didn’t know they had in them. I’m interested to see what happens against Atlanta on the 16th.

What are your thoughts about the win over Cleveland? Thanks for reading and for posting your impressions.

I’ll have another post after the game against the Falcons.

Best,
Mike

i was watching on a choppy feed from barcelona, spain, and i was glued to the computer for the whole game. like everyone, i wish our D could step up a bit more often so we dont have to come from behind, but with all those injuries who can hate them for getting a W any way possible?

good luck, Torain. you looked great out there in the 1st half. keep the momentum going boys, we are still alive!

  2. brian_schneider says:

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. This team can pull together through thick and thin and make things happen to get a win. Keep on rollin’.

  3. brian_schneider says:

One more note: Bly… you came up big for the team this week. Hope you can keep that kind of play up. Even though sometimes I question his coverage skill, he made a great play. All the players did in the 4th QT. And Jay..WOW!!!! That is vintage Elway playing right there.

  4. gdingel says:

This was a great win and shows the broncos will claw their way back into games when they are behind. I am concerned however about Ryan Torain being out and maybe on IR. Ryan looked great when he was out there. Ryan was averaging 5.7 yards a carry and we were starting to get a nice balance on offense. Throwing the ball all game long worked against the browns, but I don’t think it will work every game. Hopefully we will get Ryan and Selvin back. Great Win Broncos!!!

  5. pacohlgs78 says:

Congrats Broncos Great Great Win!!! Did anyone watch the post game interview with Marshall? He admitted that he ran the wrong route when jay got that pick maybe he has grown up.

  6. West Coast says:

I have said all along that we should play Wesley. He is a playmaker along with Eddie, Hillis and Larsen. That will turn out to be a huge draft. We need to put Larsen in at middle linebacker and we will see a huge improvement in our defense. Niko is a backup at best. Great game guys. Way to show heart…..West Coast

  7. Doomervil says:

Wow, what a game. I’m not sure we’ll beat Atlanta with defense like that but we’ll take it whenever we can. The running back situation is looking horrible. I thought Torain looked great before the knee injury. Hopefully it is only a sprain and we can get him back next week. If not, we need to call Mike bell or some other free agent. Woodyard had a great game; I think he had 4 tackles for a loss. I’m sure he will stay in the starting lineup.

  8. Nachojuice says:

I could not be prouder of the team right now, esepcially given the fact that more and more players seem to get hurt each and every game. I think at this point in the serason we have to be realistic and know that none of the rb’s that we have are going to be healthy enough for us. Looks like Torraine tore his ACL so he is done and clearly selvin’s groin was not ready to go yet. Cannot say more about Tony though I mean wow, having him the offense is such a huge boost I hope he didnt reinjure anything and will be good to go for the rest of the season because honestly with an empty set and tony, b march, eddie, stokes and maybe Chad Jackson I dont think there is a defense in the league that can cover all those guys!

YES lol i was yellin n shoutin n pumpin my chest when i saw this kid bring down j lewis then jawed on him. im loving this kid for steppin up huge.
also, i really love torain, he was looking so good. then he went down n my heart broke. i really think this kid is going to be our future, cuz for the little time he was in there, he was nice. hurry up n heal torain we need u.

ps. honestly i didnt think we could win after my man nate went down, hes our heart on d… then torain then young then sheff being shaky. thank u broncos for proving me wrong

  10. mike_rice says:

Thanks for the posts. Good thoughts all.

–nadrojcamba…glad you could check out the game from Spain! A choppy feed is better than no feed.

–brian_schneider…you are dead-on, Bly made a huge play forcing the fumble. That is exactly the kind of play the defense has been to make. Huge.

–gdingel…you are right, the way the Broncos won might not work against the Falcons. But as you know, all the Broncos could do was deal with the situation as it developed against the Browns. At the same time, I think you would agree that with the state of the Broncos’ running game (even before all the injuries), the identity of this team is becoming Cutler. At this point, that’s their best chance…primarily use his skills as a passer and the talented receivers they have.

–pacohlgs78…interesting point about Marshall. I didn’t see the post-game interview.

–West Coast…it will be ineresting to see what the Broncos will do if Webster is out for awhile, which could indeed be the case. Woodyard was a find. At this point, they might need Larsen at fullback!

–Doomervil…”I’m not sure we’ll beat Atlanta with defense like that but we’ll take it whenever we can.” I couldn’t agree more. But this is what makes watching the Broncos so fun. They can struggle but they can also play so well, and many times it is in the same game as it was against Cleveland. You just never know.

–Nachojuice…excellent thought abuot Scheffler. He makes such a difference when he is in there. He is big, athletic and is such a target, especially over the middle.

    Mike

  11. Gami3it says:

Yup. Woodyard did well. No matter if a play happens against your team, you’ve gotta be able to get in the face of the playmaker and show that you are not intimidated or beaten.

Way to go cutler. Way to go defense for stepping up after all those injuries. Way to go Torain. Way to go Bly, Way to go Hillis, way to go Brandon for always drawing coverage to give our outstanding rookie wide out a chance to make plays. Way to go Stokely for stopping Marshall. Feel your sentiment Marshall, shoulda just have worn the gloves the whole game or something lol and showed it when you scored, that way it wouldn’t be planned or a prop. Love them Broncos. Showing the Broncos we fell in love with in the first 3 games.

…”We May Be Snake Beaten but We Aint Beaten”….GO BRONCOS!!!:-D

  12. outoftowner says:

That really was some gutsy play from the guys that were still healthy enough to play in the second half.

I don’t think Ive ever seen a team out there with no healthy running backs & a rookie fullback filling in!

I think that was a more historic game then it will ever get credit for being!

  13. bronc fan in WA says:

That was an amazing game. I can’t describe how impressed i was by a few of our players. Jay Cutler, Eddie Royal, Wesley Woodyard!!!! Are you kidding me? You all stepped up big time last night. Torain was doing so well before he went down. I sure hope it isn’t anything serious.

I loved how we kept fighting though. I was so bummed after the first half thinking we already lost another one. But i kept my eyes on that TV and watched those guys fight back. Great work!!!

  14. feetball says:

that game was amazing, but costly, we’re down to all second string lb’s, all be it Woodyard played amazing and I don’t feel like him being in there is a detriment to the defense at all, but still we have no experience, and the news now is that torain may be done for the season with a torn ACL and Selvin left in crutches, this is not a good sign for our RB’s, hopefully Pope and the rook we just put on practice squad can be diamonds in the ruff, no RB’s is going to be a big deal for this season, Hillis did a great job, but he is a FB and should be a FB, we need to find a free agent RB and quick! But that aside, great game, everyone really stepped up, it’s amazing to have two WR’s with 57 and 52 receptions respectively only 9 games into the season, and one is a ROOKIE! Royal is amazing, he better get serious R.O.Y. consideration! GREAT GAME

  15. clutch734 says:

this game will spark us to the AFC WEST title!!!..i was so pumped, I stayed up and re watched the game a 2nd time……hopefully we can get some players back after this 10 day break….I BELIEVE!!

  16. milehighmagic88 says:

I just wanted to say that Peyton Hillis is nothing but a football player. And a very good one at that. It doesn’t matter if he’s asked to catch passes, block, play tailback or play special teams. He can do it all. I think his best play last night came on that 93 yard td pass to Royal. Hillis picked up the blitz on the play and it looked like he lifted the pass rusher right off his feet allowing Jay to step into the throw. Hillis is a beast.

Oh and I also think that Dre Bly had his best game as a Bronco last night. He held Braylon Edwards to just one catch all night! Not to mention that great strip he had on Winslow. Great job Dre!

All around a very encouraging win.

  17. icarus23 says:

This became Cutler’s team tonight. I believe one of the most valuable players on the offense was Scheff, in all the games he has played entirely we seem to score more than 30 points (Oak, SD, NO CLEVE) b/c of the over the middle LB mismatches that he creates. Cutler did not complain or use excuses when everything was falling apart, he just focused one pass at a time. I say go shotgun and throw it 40 times a game doing draw plays to keep them honest. The line has great pass blocking.

  18. scott2212 says:

Columbus i agree with you about the strength coach about how we have so many injuries it just doesnt seem right, where detroit reggie know saying we should trade cutler? great game one of the best i have ever seen lets just hope we can stop turner and well be fine, elway07 get a life.

  19. BroncoRanger08 says:

i was just looking at the rb free agents and im curious what you all think if we decide to go that route

Shaun Alexander, Mike Anderson, Mike Bell, Ron Dayne, and Josh Scobey

Personally, i think Anderson would be the best fit but thats just me and i dont know whos on our practice squad. Have at it!

  20. snake53 says:

Napoleon, I agree with u. Give him time and he will be running that D. I”ve seen alot of other LB”S miss tackles. Also i know some guys that play on Seattle and they all say this kid will break ur neck if he gets a chance. So like Napoleon says not so fast Tough Guy

  21. lynch4prez says:

this is the type of momentum swing the team needed to break the losing streak and also after being plagued with so many injuries

  22. Professor Broncs says:

Well I have to say I enjoyed the ride on the ATV= ALL-TORAIN-VEHICLE. He looked explosive and strong. Hope he can recover. I moved the leg on his own when he went to the sideline so It may only be a week a two. Hillis looked pretty good at RB also when he ran over some people and lowered the boom on Shaun Rogers ( which caused him to be hurt ) and powered ahead for that 1st down that looked like a sure turnover on downs with 4th and 1. The performance I most liked was was Wesley Woodyard. He was absolutely impressive and very fast. He hawked J Lewis from behind and then gobbled him up single handed a couple times. He didnt miss a takle and even made an arm takle while being blocked. Reminds me of a younger Ian Gold. We need him on the field opposite fo Dj when he gets back….heck he even has the speed to play safety. Im sure he would have wrapped Kellon Winslow instead of letting him break him and walk into the endzone like Manuel did. Gosh he really sucks. Get him outta there!!!

  23. brian_schneider says:

Just a thought, but with our running back problems, do you think we will see Larsen at fullback and Hillis at HB? I know that seems more like Heavy package than anything. I think that Hillis has shown that he is capable of running the ball and he has good hands (double threat), and after the effort on that 4th down conversion, I think he should get some carries either at the FB spot or as a HB.

  24. ramboskithefan says:

WOODyard is the man!!! now lets get larsen in there at middle…..all he does is blow fools up on speacial teams…..did u see his suplex on the ball carrier…

  25. ramboskithefan says:

alexander is on the redskins!!1 but we def need a running back now!! nebody!!! i think we should trade sumone or sumthing to the skins for a ledell betts or a savy vet thats waiting to get a starting job….somebody that will run hard and get yards…..such as a arron stecker on the saints…i like pierre thomas on the saints too…dude is a stud…there are alot of backs on other teams that dont get anyplay at all…..we have alot of young talent lets get sum vets in here…..

  26. Cutlercountry08 says:

Couple of things this week! First off i wanna start by sayin wesley woodyard is a stud nd he better have the starting position for the rest of the year. u could see the fire in his eyes wen he played. it seemed like he made every tackle for the broncos, i wish every bronco on defense would play like him. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Second i kno it seems like lifes gonna suck cuh were officially out of running backs buh im optimistic, cuh peyton hillis runs harder than anyone ive seen all year! I DEF. like him at running back! Lastly i definately think we should us the empty package for the rest of the year. our offense has never looked as good as they did in the fourth quarter wen shanahan jus put all the wr out there and let cutler sling the ball around. I definately think we could do some serious damage on offense if we run one like the patriots did last year. i mean the patriots defense wasnt great last year nd they made it all the way to the super bowl lettin brady throw the ball around. now i know cutler isnt brady buh hes damn sure one hell of a qb. So i think we should do a 5 wr spread nd let cutler have a field day nd occasionally let hillis run a couple people over bcuz we looked awesome in the 4th quarter last night. plus our defense always plays a lil better wen were leading especially by alot. idk im hopin shanahan was payin very close attention to how amazing our offense looked wen we did the empty backfield formation nd takes it into consideration for the rest of the year. I definately think it might work for us!! Feedback? lemme kno wuh u guys think I’ll holla

  27. monodono says:

    Wow some entertaining posts.
I saw allot of heart in the second half, I would like to know what was said in the locker room at half time. The first half looked like the TEAM gave up then the TEAM scrached and clawed and refused to lose! Nice game!
    W. Woodyard 10 solo tackles!
    T. Winborn 13 solo tackles!
    C. Kuper opened some great holes!
    K. Paymah key turnover!
    D. Bly nice job!
Cutler, Hillis, Royal, Jackson, Scheffler, Graham awesome keep it up.
The O Coaches finally called a more ballanced game, it could still get better though TIME OF POSSESSION belonged to the browns by 4min!
Cutler moveing around more added something the linebackers Had to respect.
    I’m verry impressed, it’s a good win.
Pray for the injured, and keep working at it.
PROUD TO BE A BRONCOS FAN !!!!!!!
    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  28. R@iderH@ter_777 says:

THANK YOU KELLEN WINSOW!!! Thank you for your PI and for the fumble. Ok, ok, all jokes aside, how good did Jay look in the second half? Even running the football himself. Did Cutler’s preformance remind anyone else of Elway? I think Cutler running the ball could actually open up the running for the backs if he would be able to that more often. Speaking of backs has anyone hear the extenent of Torrains injury? Good job Denver, hopefully you can ride this game for the rest of the season which will be challenging from here on end.

  29. cdnbroncosfan says:

I feel like the D played well despite giving up the points they did, and regardless of how others feel I loved seeing the emotion displayed by Woodyard and Winborn who were leading with some heart and energy. Sorry but I would rather see emotion every time than a previous LB we used to have that would get BURNED on a long play then smile about it….or always help up the opposing teams player after getting burnt for a long run. Play with some passion!!! Woodyard and Winborn both brought that last night.

A little over pursuit on some cutbacks, the DE’s have to maintain their lines on the backside. I hope we don’t lose Webster for any extended time but I also feel like Niko will do ok. Remember he was brought in with the thought of starting at MLB and was beat out by Nate so I’m sure there’s lots of pent up energy and the desire to prove a few things.

I loved seeing the CB’s play a little more bump and run with the safeties back for some help. Our LB’s were active. Could have used some more pressure from the D-Line but that said I counted at least 4 times that Elvis almost had his head twisted back and no calls….or even Manuel getting a handful of hands to the face by Winslow and no call….that’s getting very tiring, although in my opinion the reffing across the league has been sub-par at best this year.

Now…RB…that’s a little disturbing…I love Hillis and what he brings but we NEED some experience in there…Pope is not the answer, ST player at best. So….do we take a look at Alexander?? I say why not…teams will have to respect the man’s abilities (or at least reputation)…he’s got to be hungry by this point…so sign him to a pro-rated contract and let him try and prove himself to get a deal elsewhere next year. Short of that..who?? Anderson?….Tatum Bell is also still out there….just don’t leave your suitcase near his locker LOL.

Overall…a great, gutsy performance and oh…THANK YOU Brandon Stokeley for being a verrry smart veteran!!

  30. Climber_651 says:

I remember standing on my foot looker in my skivvies listening to Staff Sargent Platoon Sargent Dixon tell me and the rest of my platoon that we are not white, black or brown. Instead we were all amphibious green.

Now if Brandon Marshall can be convinced to be blue and orange, maybe the team can keep winning despite this rash of injuries. In any case, his current distractions are keenly felt.

  31. Broncosfanatic4 says:

First off my bad for not holdin the faith, I have been a Bronco fan all my life have seen some pretty bad teams and some really good teams but one thing that all those teams had was a sense of pride and fight. This years team did not show that same kind of mentality early on but in Cleveland they gut checked themselves and pulled out a huge win. I really think it started on that play when the rook Woodyard came through the gap like a mad man and put Lewis on his butt and then got in his face, I think that rallied the team right there. Hats off to Bly for playing like he should. Still not sold on Slowik yet, the only reason some these guys are finally getting a chance to play on D is because of injuries. If Niko is just a backup hows come the run D got better once Niko settled in. Webster has yet to stop overpursuing the play while Niko at first did just that then something magical happened and he just got it. The light bulb has turned on for Niko and Woodyard these guys are studs. Here is a thought why not just keep Hillis running if he can get 5 to 6 yards every time he touches the ball that is a running game gents, as far as needing home run hitters on the O, Eddie and B-Marsh got that covered, and oh yeah what about Scheff at 75 percent he out runs most of the coverages so um yeah we be good now. Once again my bad for not keeping the faith.

  32. west coast says:

Broncosfanatic4….Agree with most of your post except for NIKO. Niko is not starting material and last night was proff. He had what 1 tackle? Wesley is a playmaker and has been his life. His size kept him from being drafted and not his ability. Larsen is also a playmaker and this defense will improve when we give him a shot in the middle. Mark my words. Great job guys….West Coast

  33. xlilmixedup33x says:

Broncosfanatic4… i agree with u completely. not tryin to be negative but niko was big talk before but what i saw from him last night was not good at all. not just stat wise – i watched the whole game, the times we gave up runs n niko was around, he was either out of position or didnt have his hips under him so he was left grabbin n arm tackling. woodyard n winborn stepped up huge, but niko needs to improve if nate is gonna be out for some time. again, not being negative, just tryin to point out things we need to improve on…..

  34. broncofannsd says:

I agree with West Coast. If we can find a RB that stays healthy, put Hillis back at FB and give Larsen a chance in place of Niko. Woodyard, Winborn & Larsen would be a great tandem while DJ is out.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Torain is expected to be put on IR. He looked good. Hopefully Selvin and one of the guys from the practice squad can carry the load.

  35. m.c. the great says:

So with no real running back to threaten teams. Who is with me for Mike finally drafting a RB in the first round

  36. rev79 says:

Shanny knows that Running Back is the one position you can lose on any given play… Why pay a big salary to a 1st round “dream” who may be nursing an injury or having a short career… RB’s are a dime/dozen – I think Shanny is pretty wise. Clady has turned out to be the best pick in the draft in my book….

  37. B-Marsh=#1 says:

TATUM BELL IS AVAILABLE. GUY HAD A GREAT CAREER WITH US. SHANNY NEEDS TO PICK HIM UP ASAP.

  38. bronc fan in WA says:

An ESPN report is confirming Torain is out for the season whith an ACL tear….. Terrible news.

Also, another report was saying there are talks of Mike Bell or Mike Anderson possibly coming back….?

I hope we get someone who knows or can pick up our system quickly and help us out. I don’t think we should be getting any practice squad players from other teams. Just use Young, Pope, and bring in an affective free agent.

  39. royalbroncofan1 says:

I agree with the above postings on giving Larsen a shot a MLB. Loved seeing Woodyards play last night and he did light a fire in the defensive unit. It was a great comeback, and it was great to see Cutler put the Team on his back, as everyone rallied around him. He recognized the single coverage on Royal, and checked down at the line of scrimmage on a running play. What a play that was as Royal took it to the house !! An awesome Team effort last night…. never say die! GO BRONCOS!!

  40. royalbroncofan1 says:

Torian is out for the remainder of the season with torn ACL in his left knee… terrible news. Mike Bell, Tatum Bell, Mike Anderson are available. Hope we can pick up one of these guys…….

  41. gdingel says:

Rice thanks for the reply. So just a quick question with Torain out and Young not ready to go. Who will shanny turn to? Hillis converted to HB, Mike Bell, Tatum Bell, or maybe someone else available?

  42. Broncfalls says:

WE ARE GOING TO BE FINE AND HERE’S WHY:

    1. We ARE NOT a running offense anymore. All we need is a back that can manage a game and run hard. He doesn’t need to be that 150+ runner. Just enough to keep the defense on it’s toes.

    2. Niko, sorry but Woodyard is making you look stupid. If we don’t put Larsen in there and see what he can do, it’s our own fault

    3. Jacked up Jay is going to thread this ball all over the field. Royal is getting huge props Nationally and people are going to start respecting him. Just when they do…guess who’s left 1 on 1? B Marsh…pick your posion.

I’m now worried about this team…I don’t care what anyone says, THIS IS A VERY, VERY DANGEROUS FOOTBALL TEAM!

Anybody that wants to b*tch about the defense as you did all year long, I’ll tell you this team has the opportunity to put up 30+ point on you and in a hurry….how would you like to play these guys in the first round……..? I wouldn’t

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  43. del30 says:

WOW what a game, we needed it, but we shouldn’t always have to come from behind and always pray the offense can do what they did yesterday, because they didn’t for four games. WE ABSOLUTELY need a new defensive coordinator, no pressure on opposing quarterbacks and missed tackles and blown defensive schemes mean disaster and disaster is what we have seen, I am trying to be optimistic, but if we don’t shape up then when it comes to the really good teams we will be embaressed. Royal great job, Cutler good job, Woodyard is the leader we need on defense has fire in his eyes, Hillis dude can play, everyone else BLAH

  44. danbascom says:

    Sign Tatum Bell

  45. broncfan99 says:

the second half of lastnites game was probably the best ive seen not only the deffense play all year its the best ive seen cutler spread the ball around instead of just dropping back and looking for marshall.i think even jay is starting to believe that eddie royal is the perfect compliment and just as dangeroues as marshall. i cant wait to see the way they continue to develope together

  46. 07elway says:

That was one incredible game… I don’t even know how to express how exciting it was to see this TEAM step up with all the injuries we had during the game. We lost alot of people and if I’m hearing this right that Torain is out for the season with a torn ACL… not what I wanted to hear. But we stepped it up beyond anyone’s expectations… what Cutler did to bring this TEAM together was amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better TEAM performance than what they did to comeback and win.

Broncfalls – you couldn’t be more right when you said this is a VERY, VERY DANGEROUS football team. Absolutely. We’ve become dangerous overnight but the key to that is to STAY that way. We cannot get soft and we can’t afford to get soft. We’ve started something here… last night’s game was even better than the damage we did in Oakland in week 1, all because of what they did in the 2nd half. Last night’s performance was VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! That’s the Broncos football team I know and grew up watching… always on fire, always giving 110%.

As for Cutler – Marry me!!! You are (almost) a direct shadow of John Elway… they way you led this TEAM to victory, your poise on and off the field, your respect for your teammates… you’re a one hit wonder #6!!! I still can’t fathom the 447 yards you put up but I know its real and I know I watched it happen. This was a TEAM win but you stood out so strongly. I will ALWAYS have faith in you and believe that you will/can do Elway-like this for this TEAM.

As for some of the rookies stepping up… Hillis and Royal have been a light of fire for this team. Hillis hadn’t been seen much or doing much but last week he became a name we’d all remember. And last night he did it again…. if he hadn’t gotten that 1st down on 4th and 1 on that last drive, I’m sure we’d all want to forget alot of what he did on this team but he did get the 1st down and created a pathway for Cutler to lead the offense to another great TD. And Cutler’s laser pass to Royal for that unbelievable 93 yard touchdown was a moment I’ll never forget. Pretty sure I kissed my TV when I saw #19 run ALL THE WAY!!!! I’m kidding.

The guys who played and filled some pretty big shoes that hadn’t even practiced – Congrats on a very well-deserved, well-fought WIN!!!

And every nay-sayer is silent today, thank God. I couldn’t bear one more week of hearing “this guy should go” and “he should be fired”. Finally there is peace in Broncos Country. Don’t say this season is over TILL its over. As for those who took their nay-saying words back and swallowed them… glad to see you got some faith in you. And if we ever lose again, you can’t let that loss overrule your faith in this team. If I did, I’d be a mad person in some institution. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. You can’t let a loss no matter how bad it is, overtake the faith you have in this team. Faith is about believing in this team win or lose. A true fan never loses sight of that faith.

    Keep the faith Broncos Country…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

i feel terrible for ryan torain the man was showing so so so much heart in his runs and he was starting to get in a groove.. and then this happens!! this sucks… and as for all of u who want tatum bell back to u remember why we got rid of him?? its something that a lot of u talk about in here and its that HE CANT HOLD ON TO THE BALL!!! i would love to see old mike anderson come back in here and maybe not dominate the run game but he is very smart and he did have some good years with us
