Fridays with Johnny

April 27th, 2007 - 3:28pm by Miles

Not to be confused with the smash hit book, or the after school special-ish Tuesdays with Morrie, last Friday I spent most of the day with John Lynch (Don’t call him Johnny — it just made sense for the title). We made visits to three elementary schools along with the Western Dairy Council to promote healthy and nutritious eating.

We started off at Moore Elementary at 7:30 am for their breakfast program.  John talked about how all the players are required to eat breakfast before their workouts, and how important it is to have the fuel for the day, school or work.

Then it was off to Martensen Elementary.  John spoke, I did the worm, he laughed, the kids laughed, I think I pulled my back.

We wrapped up at Monteview Elementary. John spoke, I did the windmill, he laughed, the kids laughed, I danced with the music teacher, I think she asked me on a date, I think I wrenched my neck, John had to leave to go pick up his kids from school.

The point of this whole story is John had to pick up his kids, and teachers dig Miles.

John is a regular guy, he just happens to be awesome at football.  He does most of the things that most dads do, but he also takes the time to use his celebrity to encourage kids to be better people. Whether that’s by eating better, trying harder in school, being a leader through sports or volunteering your time.

If you ever get the chance to spend a Friday with John Lynch I highly recommend it.  He’s a great guy that’s just like you and me…Well, maybe not me, but he does like to laugh at me.  Just don’t make him late for picking up his kids.

Sorry Ms. Johnson, my dance card is full.
