Report: Lynch Staying

The Denver Post reported Friday night that John Lynch will return to the Broncos for the 2008 season, which would be his fifth in Denver and 16th in the NFL.

Lynch has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons in Denver and has been a team captain throughout his time in orange and blue.

Throughout the offseason, Lynch had discussed the need to take his time and be prudent in deciding whether to return, noting that this was the first juncture in his career in which he pondered the issue.

thank god Lynch is coming back… are we going to release Champ Bailey next???

  2. oneeye27 Says:

Look Lynch was a great player and still is a good player, but this team has got to get young talent!! You have to prepare for the future all the time. This is a game but this is a business first. Centimental decisions don’t work in the NFL for short term gains. Love ya Lynch and don’t mean to be so harsh. I hope you can perform at a high level this year everyone will have their eyes on you to be the best leader you can be.

  3. steveatwater5 Says:

wow good thing lynch is back I was a little disappointed that ian gold left but still now all im hoping is that foxworth stays I love that guy please don’t let him go

  4. Famousamos101 Says:

    THAT’S GOOD STUFF BABY YEAH.

Glad to see Johnny Lynch back with his big ole’ hitstick.

  5. Lynchifier09 Says:

    Yeah John Lynch!

  6. topscribe Says:

This team HAS young talent. That’s a big part of the problem: tons of talent, but so much of it inexperienced and still having to gel.

What this team could not afford to lose was the leadership Lynch contributes because of all the young talent.

  7. sess44 Says:

One bright spot still exists. Whether or not he is the best candidate to start at safety, the Broncos still need him on the roster

  8. imready Says:

I heard on NFL Network that the Broncos wanted him to restructor his contract and it chapped him off. Eight hours later he’s signed. Wonder what went down……….

  9. I_Only_Like_Jay Says:

Yea! for John staying. It’ll be nice having him on the team still. He’s one of my favorite players.
Bye-bye to Javon. Hopefully he’ll find somewhere to “fit” in.

  10. 2champ4 Says:

why did walker have to be so selfish? Cutler, marshall, walker, and stokely could have been a lethal passing attack.

I’ve lost a lot of respect for him.

  11. BradJamesBroncoFan Says:

At this juncture, Lynch’s role is best surmised as that of a mentor. We need some young defensive backs to come in and join Abdullah and Foxworth to help us be the best we can defensively. Javon Walker was great for us, when he wasn’t petulant. Now, I’ve got to change my youtube channel’s wallpaper because it features Javon. Oh well, we’ll find someone else to step in and do his job better.

  12. achavez3 Says:

They better re-sign Elam Fast he is a Hall-of-Famer!!!!

  13. broncosbest780 Says:

Never saw the effort on a consistent basis from Walker. He needed to share a locker with Rod. Good bye!!!

  14. broncosbest780 Says:

Great to see John back. He can help the young guys grow and mature.

  15. broncosfrance Says:

Lynch back is a good news , he brings experience and leadership . We still have to draft a safety that he can groom for the future ( next year ) . Gold’s releasing ?Exept for DJ , our linebacking corps really sucked this year and Gold’s best years have passed, thank you guy you did a good job for us but there’s no place for sentiments in this league .As for Javon , when healthy , he was a terrific weapon and it would have been fun to see him opposite side of Brandon catching passes from a future great QB , he wanted to go elsewhere , like he did in GB and like Ashley L did before him , anybody knows where he plays know ? We have Stockley and we can bring in a FA ( Stallworth?) or a young player in the draft . Whith all the young and talented guys in this team , there’s little need on both side , next year will be another wining season !!

  16. oneeye27 Says:

Does anyone remember how the secondary played last year? The Broncos have 3 guys bly, baily and lynch. These guys got beat so many times last year. Mr. Farve showed them up (Bly) as well as everyone else. Yet we want to sign Lynch. What is goin on in Denver W-A-K-E-U-P yes baily is good bly got beat so bad last year it easn’t even funny. Then you sign a 16 year vet!! I love lynch, what a great career, but we have to put someone else in that position. He is great for motivation and leadership but he got burnt many times last year. His big hits aren’t there anymore because he has lost a step or two. Get rid of bly in a trade get rid of henry
and sign some players who want to play and not smoke pot and get burnt all the time.

  17. BroncosFan973 Says:

the broncos should sign michael boley and demorrio williams/lance briggs to fill up the line backing core, Dante Stallworth for another deep threat. Then we can trade away henry and a third for a good DT. and Draft hopefully Clady, but probably Jefferson in the first; and with the way that kenny phillips is dropping, he will be available in the second.

  18. buckeyebronco Says:

Lynch’s presence will be needed on a young defense, even if he has lost a step or two, it is good news and I suspect he would like to retire on a high note! Can’t believe we let Shawn Rogers get away, he would have been a much needed shot in the arm for the D-line.

  19. shelbo bronco Says:

    oneeye27,
thats a good name for you cuz you obviously watched the games with one eye closed…yea mr.Favre showed us up but tom brady got showed up by the giants d-line, do you honestly think the giants corners are that good? champ and dre spent the ENTIRE season peaking in the backfield to help stop the run, pretty hard to stop the pass when you give up 150+yards per game. and as my old man always has said its pretty hard for the quarterback to throw the ball if he is on his buttocks. brady proved that thery true…. so put down the pipe and stop free bassin

  20. 07elway Says:

I was so hoping for this and I hope this team can pull it together and at least get a winning season. This team has plenty of young talent but veterans like Lynch can really help out by what they do on and off the field. Like Smith, Lynch is a natural leader and I really think he’s got more hard-hits in him to give out than people are giving him credit for. Just because he doesn’t have the game of his life, doesn’t mean he’s not any good anymore. He can’t play defense all by himself… they have to work as a team and that was just not going on at all this past season and it showed (or at least most of the time).

We need a solid D and offense if we want to even come close to a Superbowl and they have to work as ONE team. Not two sides to a football team and each side does it’s own thing - ONE WHOLE TEAM!!!!!! If the D is solid for us this season, Lynch and every other player should have one heck of a season.

As for Walker, I’ll only miss him because his first year with Denver was fantastic. I thought to myself, this kid has what it takes and when I saw how threatening he was with Cutler I couldn’t believe it. But now that he’s been such a big baby about whatever it may be, I’m glad his whining days in Denver are over. We don’t need someone like that, so pessimistic on our team. I’m sorry that he witnessed what happened to D-Will and I can’t imagine what that must have been like but that incident and his whining about his paycheck are 2 completely different things. But I will miss Gold… now that was just disappointing to read that he was gone as well.

All I can say is welcome back Lynch, I for one am glad you’re coming back!!!!!! Oh, and I hope Denver re-signs Elam… I will be beside myself if we let him go. That will be the dumbest mistake this team could ever make as of now. He’s only been with this team his whole career, 14 or 15 years and because his contract is up and he’s an unrestricted FA, we can’t let him go. He’s saved our butts so many times - how can you give someone like that away?? I hope the Broncos make the smart & right choice and bring him back.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  21. unc69it Says:

I think they should of let him go and brought some one in a little younger to take over. someone could and would step in and step up if the broncos would of opened up the wallet a little bit. abdulha and foxworth arent the answers either. we can build from the draft but you also need to bring in some free agents just like every other team does to be competitive. we need to get rid of some of the dead weight we have just hanging on and bring in some people that want to play football. our defense was a laughing stock last year and with free agency open all weve done is released walker, gold and we signed a third string te wooopie and a 16 year vet who after 16 yrs has lossed a couple steps.
ive been a fan for almost 40 yrs and since weve won our 2 superbowls shanahan has made me scratch my head more than once. you have to bring in a few competitive free agents to puch our guys but when you sit back and do nothing it doesnt make sense at all. if we got rid of the dead weight we have on defense we could afford to sign some good free agents and still have money for our draft. almost every team in the league went out and picked up some players to feel some needs oh but not the dumb a** bronco coach he sits back and resign people that arent going to help that much. get a clue shanahan i hope you fail this year as a coach and we get a real coach next year because you havent done anything for our team since the superbowls and we cant just sit back and wait for you to get us to another one. for petes sake its been 10 yrs as it is. address our needs in free angency and get some players that can learn and maybe even start at their positions.

  22. meisner Says:

john lynch will be a good motivator for the young guys, and look for our young defensive line to step up this year. Jarvis moss will be fresh and dumerville could lead the league in sacks next year, the way he’s progressing. Maybe boss bailey could come in and help the linebacking core.

  23. Cutler2Marshall Says:

yeah, i think what we should do is in nickel and dime, move bailey and bly inside and have paymah and foxworth cover on outside since ther faster

  24. Sicknessfl Says:

Did you just say that Paymah and Foxworth would do a better job outside than Champ Bailey?

    LOL

The guy that said our secondary was ripped because of the corners thinking run first is about the only person with a lick of sense.

Lynch is past his prime though. Abdullah is a restricted free agent and other guys are leaving. We need Lynch for some stability and leadership.

  25. BroncoBoy2012 Says:

I’m glad John Lynch is back. He can help teach these younger kids how to play against the run and pass. I think that a good draft replacement could be Dominique Barber the free safety from Minnesota. He is 6′2″ 210lbs very similar to John and at the combine he bench 225 23 times!!! That was tied for 3rd at the combine

  26. West Coast Says:

cutler 2 marshall….Are you serious? Do you even have a clue? Champ and Bly looked average at times last year because they had to constantly play the run. How many tackles did Champ end up with? More than every one on our defensive line. Our front 8 was one of the worst in the league. Improve the front 8 and you will truly see how good Champ and Bly are.

  27. cbracken2 Says:

Seriously, Get Boss Bailey. He played the run really well in detroit. His passing game was mediocre at best but that was because he tried to match up with wide receivers and the lions didn’t have a third corner that was any good. He is fast and would fit in well with our linebackers! We should move trade up and get Chris Long. If that doesn’t work, then draft Kenny! I just hope that Slowiks system is better then Bates.

  28. hi-mtnman Says:

Glad John’s hanging around this season. Need to get a a good second stringer behind him up and working (do some switching) during games. Also lets get that alternate captain calling some D plays out there, so we don’t have those times when Lynch is off the field and or D is caught standing around with their brains in their back pockets! Looks really bad on national TV!

  29. slimwigg Says:

Maybe if our front 7 can stop the run (somewhat) this year Lynch will not have to make that his main priority and can play the pass more. The guy is smart and can still blow people up. Thanks for staying in Denver

  30. bestinthewest24 Says:

John Lynch Rules! I’m glad he stayed after changing his mind. He rocks and can still light people up.

  31. DevinC.B.#1 Says:

That is awsome! he is an anchor of the D along with champ b. I think hes trying to be like elway and hold the lambardi trophy above him and retire in fashion that would be the perfect retirment!

  32. imready Says:

John Lynch had a meeting with Pat Bowlen and took a huge pay cut to return to the Broncos. The story was that he went to bed Thrisday night planning call headquarters the next and retire but woke up and realized he wasn’t ready to do that yet. We need leadership on defense and he brings that to the table every day. He may have lost a step but it looked like everybody lost a step last year on the defensive side of the ball with such poor d-line play. Those d-lineman got something to prove this year and I’m putting my money on those guys. They will be ALL-READY ! GO BRONCOS !

  33. wyoming45 Says:

I think Mr. Lynch can still play. But I feel he will be best utilized as a run stopper, almost like a 4th linebacker. He can still cover tight ends, but is missing some speed for the secondary. I do not think he is a four down player anymore on the field.

Off the field he is a man of sound moral character and a team leader for younger players. 15 years is a lot of experiance to use and to loose. I am glad he is back.

  34. 24zone Says:

I agree with earlier posts about the front 7. If collectively they play better, Lynch, and the other corners will make more plays. Bly and Bailey look bad at times because they will take chances..everyone knows that Bly jumps on quick routes, and teams always bank on a double move in the 2nd half.

  35. matt203 Says:

im so glad lynch is going to be back. i can’t wait for him to pop LT or chris henry again lol. and about the corners the reason why champ bailey only got 3 picks was the quarterback always threw toward “I cant cover anybody”Bly
and it really pisses me off when people say asante samuel or antonio cromartie is better than champ.

  36. C2 Says:

GET A PASS RUSH! then maybe our corners can actually do what they are supposed to do. Just like Champ said …”most of the starting d-line on opening day wasn’t with the team in week 17″. I love Dumervil and I like the fact that Ekuban is coming back as well as Engleberger. With all the injuries last year it pays to have depth. Hopefully Moss has a great year and justifies that 1st round draft pick from last year. Hopefully Crowder steps up too. I like Thomas but he needs help bad. We need to draft a BEAST at DT and I like our chances! It makes me sick to always watch the opposing QBs have so much time to throw and RBs running through gaping holes! Go D-line! Go Broncos!

  37. boldbronco69 Says:

Hey John, glad to have you back!To one of the big hitters in the back field,Rick,Ed, and myself from World’s Gym in Pacific wish you the best, and take it to the chargers this year.Go Broncos.
    thanks,Kevin

  38. Bronco's Fan 89 Says:

UM HELLO ALL I SEE ON THIS PAGE IS HOW OUR SECONDARY GOT BEAT SO BAD LAST YEAR BUT LOOK CHAMP BAILEY GOT BEAT LAST YEAR NUMEROUS TIMES AS WELL INCULDING THE BREEN BAY GAME LOOK IF WE CAN’T GET TO THE QAUTERBACK AND HE HAS 10 SECONDS TO THROW THE BALL ANYBODY AND I REPEAT ANYBODY CAN GET BEAT THANK YOU AND HAVE A NICE DAY

  39. Bronco's Fan 89 Says:

THIS PAGE IS HOW OUR SECONDARY GOT BEAT SO BAD LAST YEAR BUT LOOK CHAMP BAILEY GOT BEAT LAST YEAR NUMEROUS TIMES AS WELL INCULDING THE BREEN BAY GAME LOOK IF WE CAN’T GET TO THE QAUTERBACK AND HE HAS 10 SECONDS TO THROW THE BALL ANYBODY AND I REPEAT ANYBODY CAN GET BEAT AND WATCH WHEN PEOPLE STOP THROWING TOWARDS SAMUEL AND CROMARTIE SEE HOW MANY PICKS A YEAR THEY GET?

  40. // / yardo Says:

WOW! Did I just see “release Champ Bailey” and “move bailey and bly inside and have paymah and foxworth cover on outside since ther faster.”

You kiddos need to stop huffing paint.

  41. ManelyOrange Says:

Right on, Lynch!! Everyone says that we need young talent, but Lynch brings experience and LEADERSHIP! What he may have lost physically, he more than makes up with experience and LEADERSHIP! We have a new coordinator (AGAIN!)and because of that, Lynch will be invaluable.

John, you rock and I am glad to see you back. Keep Bailey and Bly here!!!!

  42. bronco44life Says:

I’ve always liked Lynch, even wat back in his Cardinal QB days, but let’s face it: He’s too darn slow to play safety these days. But he’s stlll the leader of the defense and one of the top leaders on the whole team, so I’m glad he’s back; now he should enter Canton as a Broncos for sure. Just one question: Is Lynch to small to play Will ‘Backer? I reckon he’s a prefect replacement for Gold. Finally a note to my fellow Broncosmaniacs: Let’s stop hatin’ on eachother here.

  43. oneeye27 Says:

shelbo bronco, I wish I had all the tapes from last year!! That way I could
show you how Mr. Bly did not perform. You say he was to busy defending the run! He is to scared to make a tackle, so I know he wasn’t defending the run. And yes I could see that with one eye closed. The NFL’s passing
game between all teams has went up. GREEN BAY, PATRIOTS, INDY, AND
MOST have been throwing the ball more and more. Before you start your
crying and how I watch games blindly I suggest you look at the NFL’s stats.
Yes I agree that we need a D line that is better big up front and speed on the outside. But I think Bly has not performed and Lynch is to old. I hope I am wrong I want the team to be successful. The better the D the more the O is on the field.

  44. hill24 Says:

glad to see lynch back he is the guy who gets the fire in the defense..i understand he is up their in age but we need him to teach the younger guys a thing or 2 he is a milti time pro bowler and we just dont let that slip away he played his heart out for denver and deserves to be a starter on this team….No one will be complaining when he lights people up like he did last year(LT). And Fyi lynch aint the one getting killed in the pass its bly lynch comes up for the pressure and plays in now back cuz the d-c trusts bly which is a stupid thought. And quit crying about signing these big name guys we dont got the money we spent it last year the team is doing what they can

  45. 2Bailey4 Says:

I have nothing but respect for John Lynch, he has had a stellar career. But his days were over two years ago. He’s not the same guy he was back in the day. now if your going to bring him back. They need to either draft a safety or trade for one that he can mentor. Because I don’t believe that he is going to be that great of an asset if one at all this year. And whoever said that foxworth and abdullah would be better coverage guys than Bly and Bailey needs to wake up and get with the program. Champ has gone to the Pro Bowl for the last seven or eight years. Last year he should have been the defensive player of the year with 10 ints and 98 tckls. Where do you see those kind of numbers from a corner?

  46. Smith's Biggest fan Says:

Lynch is flippin amazazing. I’m thrilled that he is coming back for another year. Now we need to resign Jason Elam. and hurry!!! before Kansas City or Atlanta does.

  47. Smith's Biggest fan Says:

Oh…I forgot….BYE BYE WALKER!!!!!!!!!!!! Marshall is a better reciever than you’ll ever dream of!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. RNST Says:

Lych is back ,good news, Javon Walker bye , great news., i

  49. Dr. Doom Says:

Im very happy to see Lynch re-signed but I agree with 2Bailey4. The thing I’ve come to notice about John is it almost seems like he’s afraid to hit people. Now I know he can still ring someones bell pretty good but 9 times out of ten this year he just…Whiffed on people. I know he’s worried about fines and about his health but if hes going to let those affect his game so much…Id rather see him on the sideline with a clipboard rather tha on the field. Now, one of very very few highlights against the Chargers this Year was when he LIT UP LT and thats the kind of Lynch I want to see. You used to hear people say he was a ferocious hitter but nowadays when some compliments Lynch they say he’s classy or he knows the game of football very well. Which those are good but I want the old Lynch Back…

  50. DENDEFENSE Says:

Thanks John !! You still hit like a freight train ! I’ve literally seen the fear in the eyes of your opponents just before the hit.
