Travis Henry Wins Appeal

Travis Henry

Two and a half weeks after his appeal was heard in Phoenix, the league informed the Broncos organization that it went in Travis Henry’s favor, and that he can continue to play.

The Broncos issued the following in a statement Tuesday afternoon:

“We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter.

“The Broncos look forward to Travis Henry’s continued participation on the playing field.”

Henry had also been battling a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament in recent weeks, and his work Sunday at Oakland was his first since he suffered the injury on Nov. 4 at Detroit.

Prior to the appeal, Head Coach Mike Shanahan expressed confidence that it would come back in Henry’s favor.

“If I thought the tests were positive, Travis would not be on our football team right now,” Shanahan said on Nov. 12. “When he went back and took the hair sample — that’s negative — and the lie detector test — that’s negative — we’ll let due process take care of itself. But if Travis took a test and we knew it was positive, after what he promised me, he wouldn’t be with our football team. I didn’t share that with you (before) because I couldn’t share it with you, obviously.

“Let’s give him a chance to have his day in court.

“The Commissioner (Roger Goodell) is going to wait until he listens to all of the facts, and I’m sure he’ll weigh it, and then make a decision. Knowing our Commissioner he’ll definitely give (Henry) a fair shake.”

    Thanks for the update, Andrew.

I read on denverpost.com that Sam Adams and Jeff Shoate were cut. Any word on who will replace them?

Awesome-Makes us a believer for a change. Got to be a relief to Travis and the team and one less distraction. Let’s get T H healthy and kick some butt!

  7. shutout Says:

For real, holding onto the football and running effectively is exactly the 1st step towards making a playoff run.

  8. wormyblackburny Says:

I guess that means Travis did not take part in Ricky William’s offseason “training” program that was held in Kingston, Jamaica?

  9. shelbo bronco Says:

im pleased with the ruling, this guy could really be something special in denver maybe even a 2k back if he stays healthy.l seriously the duy was avereging(sp?) like 125 or something. i jus hope he can hold onto the ball now.

When this is what Bronco fans call a high point in a season… I would really just like a win on sunday. One step at a time I guess. Congrats to him on getting another chance to keep his career going. Now go out and bust some chief ass!

i hope this doesnt mean we will see less young and hall, i really see our future as one of them!!!!!

  13. vegasbronco42 Says:

Right on Fish…I see Hall as starting material and Young as a great change of pace. Or vice-versa, I guess. And I saw the news on Adams and Shoate too. I wonder who will fill their spots?

  14. big merv Says:

After the disappointing loss the other day, this is really good news, not great but good if you are looking towards next season. If healthy he can be our franchise back. I like the potential of our young guys i.e selvin and andre but im not ready to anoint them as great runners just yet. plus our team is in sort of a transition, at least we know going into next season that on top of all the other holes we need to fill we don’t need to go get another back, which we have had to do if henry got suspended. Now we can focus on getting another big play safety or outside linebacker, definitely a solid defensive tackle will help dj blossum into the great middle linebacker i know he can be. And once we fill those holes we will be an elite team again.

Great win for travis, the broncos, and players association..but maybe if we played a little better the last 2 games it would be more heartening, i still have faith, but reality is sinking in..Go Broncos!!! Finally some good news.

  16. clutch734 Says:

man…thats a shock….i guess he told the truth and nobody believed him..maybe he can run like he did in the beginning of the season..go broncos!!

  21. RNST Says:

great news, sam adams Waived , thanks god .
    good job Shanahan

  22. BoyTroy Says:

Does this count as as a win for us. Are we 6-7 now? I really hope that we still look at Young and even more at hall. hall runs like he is made. he really looks like he could be great. i am worried about young and henry because they both have years of being injury pron. Lastly, I always wanted then to get mcGehee. He would have cost more, but I really think he would have been great.

  23. ocrush4ever Says:

Congratulations, Travis! Now….DON’T go out and celebrate!

  24. sun.couchpotato Says:

yey great for henry but im gonna go against what all yall say… i rather see henry gone.. hall is the man of hte hour.. sure he had to great games at the start of hte season but i still think this guy isnt hte real deal.. maybe he left a bitter taste in my mouth with those two fumbles and hmm 5 yards or was it 6 i couldnt tell..

i hope they put hall in and henry learns a lesson… im a big fat two thumbs down for Travis the fumbler Henry!!!

he doesnt get paid the amount he does to play like $%#^.. issues on his mind or not he didnt step up when we needed him.. he instead dug us a hole…

  25. viccity77 Says:

I’m with u guys, hall has this explosiveness that it looked like portis would have. i hope he gets more tic

  26. SteventheThorn Says:

Let’s hope that Henry stays away from all traces of wrongdoing hereafter and doesn’t go the example of Pacman Jones and what’s-his-face Vick.
Both of them lied to the commissioner…

  27. Who'sTheMaster Says:

There’s always hype on the guys that don’t play much. Hall reminds me of Quentin Griffin. Great situationally, great option catching out of the backfield, but not a guy who can carry the load. The only future I see for Hall is the permanent kick off return guy.

  28. bronco fan in the 831 Says:

thats awsome great 2 hear bout sam adams 2

  29. DENDEFENSE Says:

Prejudes is just that prejudging, the correct procedure was not followed on the process of the urine sample. Shame on the ones who assumed guilt!
Way to hang in there Travis!! It’s to bad he had to go through so much mentall anguish. Just play football now Baby!!!

  30. smithalltheway Says:

yea jump for joy the fat guy is gone. to bad about shoate kinda liked his talent. wonder who they gonna bring in? maybe somebody with some real talent.

  31. BradJamesBroncoFan Says:

Sam Adams is gone. Marvelous! Hopefully, Henry can heal swiftly and regain the form he showed early this season. Already things are beginning to get better for us and while the playoffs are still in reach, if we should fall short, the future is bright. I can’t complain about that!

  32. GO CUTLER Says:

MIKE HANDLED THIS WITH CLASS HE IS A GOOD COACH . HE IS FAIR AND GAVE TRAVIS A CHANCE TO PROVE HE WAS INNOCENT. WITH THIS BEHIND US LETS PLAY FOOTBALL. GO BRONCOS!!!

  33. broncosfrance Says:

I admit : it’s a suprise , but it’s a good news . Hopefully , some other good will soon arrive from Invesco field and from Tennessee because our slim playhoffs hopes remains in the hand of SD oponements now

  34. Odomsfan Says:

Good deal for Travis. If I was the coach I would still trade him and now that he’s not a druggie maybe we can get a high round draft choice for him. He is too injury riddled. Besides, we have other talent now brewing nicely. Best of luck to you Travis.

  35. Odomsfan Says:

Oh, glad to see Adams go. Just one more fine example of Shanahans awesome Off-season selections that are helping us to win another superbowl. Did I say it is time to trade Shanny too and BAtes and Bailey and Bailey. Hey, lets get a slogan about getting rid of the “Three B’s”.

  36. gasperdn Says:

Is Champ’s brother playing for Denver now Odomsfan??? I am guessing you are not a real broncos fan!!
