Walker in Uniform; Henry, Young Sidelined

November 21st, 2007 - 2:08pm by Andrew

We’ll find out after practice ends this afternoon just how much Javon Walker was able to do, but he was back in a practice jersey Wednesday for the first time since undergoing knee surgery on Oct. 19.

Walker’s last practice work came on Oct. 17, when he was limited in a Wednesday afternoon session prior to the win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The wide receiver spent the following three weeks recuperating from the procedure on his right knee, and then did some light work prior to last week’s practice sessions, running some routes and catching passes in the warmup period before retreating to the sidelines in sweats.

While Walker was in uniform as practice began Wednesday, wide receiver/punt returner Glenn Martinez was not. The AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 11 stretched out with his teammates, but was consigned to sweats. The same held true for running back Selvin Young, who joined fellow runner Travis Henry on the sidelines.

“Both guys (Henry and Young) are still a little bit sore, so it’ll be day by day,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said.

Young suffered a strained knee in Monday night’s win over the Tennessee Titans, an injury that thrust Andre Hall into the lineup and subsequently the spotlight after his 62-yard dash to what turned out to be the game-clinching score. An MRI examination on Young’s knee Tuesday revealed no further damage.

“(It’s) very similar to what happened with Louis Green in preseason,” Shanahan said. “The MRI was negative, but you do see a strain and it’s quite sore.”

More to come after practice.

    Hey,
So was I the only one that noticed the only reason we went 14-0 in the first was Glenn? I mean he had that block for Stokley, and then a few min later he gets the punt return. Our D did a great Job, but I was kind of hoping to see John Knock some heads.

This offense is on the verge of exploding….Getting Walker back and hopefully healthy is gonna create serious problems for opposing defenses. What are your plans for Turkey Day Mas? You said the folks are coming. Is your mom going to cook up a feast?

Quick thought on Martinez as I transcribe interviews …

That’s one of the first things I noticed about Martinez when he finally got on the field after his injuries this summer … his downfield blocking skills are superb … much more so than you might expect for someone who’s as rangy and slight of build as he is. It’s not necessarily how much muscle you have … it’s often about technique, and Martinez’s is terrific.

It’s a great sign that he’s back in the mix early in the week. It appears he has a good chance to face Chicago. Nov. 21 - 4:27 p.m. ETSource: denverbroncos.com [...]

Mason ~ Any word on the possible suspension of Travis Henry? Wasn’t the hearing scheduled for Monday?

  8. AndrewMason says:

The hearing was last Friday … no word as of yet, so for now, he’s still a-go if healthy. Walker not only practiced Wednesday, but made it through the full session — update and quotes from Walker here.

I am so psyched about Walker coming back. Marshall stepped up HUGE while he was gone, Stokley showed everything we hoped he would be and just made himself a ton of cash for when contract negotiations roll around in the offseason but Walker is a special talent. With his speed, Stokleys shiftyness and Marshalls physical ability, Cutler has a deadly trio to throw lasers at.
