Walker Update; Mike Bell Out for Sunday

On a balmy 72-degree Thursday afternoon at Dove Valley, Javon Walker was dressed for temperatures at least 20 degrees cooler, walking about the practice field in sweats as he sat out for a second consecutive day.

But Walker emphasized that his two-day absence from the practice field — which came about because of inflammation in his right knee — was precautionary in nature.

“It’s nothing to be concerned about,” he said. “It’s not the ACL. It’s nothing that got repaired. This is just something that is football.”

Walker underwent an MRI examination earlier this week which revealed the knee inflammation.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan said that both Walker and safety John Lynch will give it a go at Friday afternoon’s session, and that would help determine whether they play in spite of their injuries.

“They’ll both try to practice (Friday) and we’ll evaluate them at that time,” he said. “I would guess even after (Friday) it will be a game-time decision. We’ll see how much they recover over the next couple of days.”

Lynch said he has improved throughout the week, and doesn’t feel like sitting out the last two days will leave him at a disadvantage.

“Practice is always big, but if I don’t practice, I spend extra time preparing mentally,” he said. “I’ve done it many times in my career, and I’ve had some of my best games doing it.”

In other injury news, the Broncos ruled fullback/running back Mike Bell out for Sunday’s game. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday because of the lingering effects from a concussion. Bell joins guard Ben Hamilton and safety Hamza Abdullah as players ruled out for Sunday.

Defensive tackle Sam Adams, who did not practice Wednesday, had the words “not listed” shown by his name on the Broncos’ injury report and went through the full practice Thursday, as he has for each of the Thursday sessions in the regular season.

mike bell has been good in the rotation, for a nice HB style FB run now and again. and of course, lynch’s presence and its impact was duly noted by the lack of play the defense gandered against jacksonville. and of course, javon… wow… it’s obvious his impact. i don’t wanna dwell on that though… we’ll hope for the best on the outcome of injuries.

    godspeed broncos!

I can’t wait till this Sunday.

Has Cutler ever played the Colts? No………?

They’re not rattling his cage……..He’ll prove all the nay-sayers wrong.

Do your thing Jay……..Javon, be ready to run!

  3. rduran7777 Says:

I wanted to give the broncos the heads up on manning and the colts. Watch harrison when its a run he does not show alot of effort when it’s time to run block.

  4. KoobLis Says:

That’s really too bad, Mike Bell has had very good games against the colts.

  5. broncosfanwjl@aol.com Says:

Come on Broncos pull together and show everyone just how much talent we (you) have. Start with an upset this weekend

  6. Broncomania56 Says:

We are do a break-out game. You know, where your team looks perfect? How nice would it be if it happens against the colts? I wanna big win on the road. It’s possible, just hope the d-line can put pressure on Manning. Without it we will fail. I think I’m more concerned with run this weekend. Everyone expects pass. They may come out and try to run it down our throats early. I predict a Bailey interception returned for a T.D. Walker will get 2 T.D.’s, Henry will run for 145, and Lynch will play, and he will have at least three thunderous hits, seperating ball and reciever. We are not favorites in this game, but I believe. Do You?????

  7. firstfan Says:

I believe we better control the ball if we have any chance of winning.

  8. coloradoBoy Says:

I’m not too concerned that bell isn’t going to be playing. We don’t need him. we have two stronger running backs. and two other efficient full backs. each time he’s had the ball this season he hasn’t done anything. keep him out of the rotation. I just hope Javon gets better!!!

  9. denverobsession Says:

Does that mean Andre Hall will be activated for the game? :)

AM, will Sheffler see more playing time Sunday? I think this would be a great game to get him involved with the O.

  11. BroncsCheer Says:

I think that being the underdog for the first time this year might be good for Cutler and the offense, and that we’ve got a shot this week to look really good and surprise some people. As obvious as it seems that our defense is key, the offense could win this game for us if they can just finish their drives, if the defense gives us a couple breaks and special teams doesn’t wet the bed….

….then again the Colts could just run us over….

  12. rev79 Says:

Control the clock - Manning is a master at it - the key is to keep him off the field, get a lead, and make him hurry. I know they run a “hurry-up” offense, but he just lines up early to read a defense. Get his mind hurrying and keep him off of the field with some long drives. One other key for us - we need 7 points when we get in the red zone. We won’t worry about Elam missing field goals if we are getting in the end zone!

    I Believe - Go Broncos!!!

  13. tonytdrummer@bellsouth.net Says:

Word is the the Broncos are 2 digit underdogs in this game, Is that true, if so I think its a slap in the face and pure lack of respect of the Broncos. I hope that gives our guys some insentive to show up and make the non beleavers, beleavers. All we want is to beat the champs at there own game and go in with a great game plan and make it work. GO BRONCOS and come out with a W.

[…] Javon Walker and even John Lynch should be good to go on Sunday, but Mike Bell has been ruled out. - Mason’s Morsels […]

  15. TheSportsGuru Says:

I hear what Shanny and Walker are saying about his knee and his prospects of playing on Sunday, but in most cases in the past, if you didn’t practice Thursday you didn’t play….

I am hoping for the best, but on the hard turf in Indy it might be wise to hold Walker out…

I think we can win, but the key is the D getting off the field on third downs. The O needs a lot of third down conversions to keep the clock on our side. The only person I have seen give the Broncos a chance this weekend is Rod Woodson on NFLN, but he just said if one of the 3-0 teams loose it will be the Colts! we need to put up at least 27 points to pull this game out.Oh and Payton looked pretty confident in his match up of Champ vs. Marvin LOL I smell a pick coming off the arm of Payton!! On the other side we will be in trouble if Dre lets the big play happen!

  17. oc60 Says:

Andrew; Don’t you think its time for MS to put the fear of Cutler’s talent throwing the Rock and opening up the offense. It’s time to stop holding back opening up the offense will help keep the defense off the field and also help our rushing game don’t you think?

  18. slimwigg Says:

our front seven need to step up and put the colts in 2nd and long/ 3rd and long. if we can stop the run on 1st and 2nd down then we got a good shot to pull off the upset. NO MORE FUMBLES!! Our offense looked good at times but special teams is killing us. I think selvin will have a good week and as long as Walker plays it will open things up for henry. Stokely and marshell should be able to burn the colts DBs. We need this game so my friend in indy will finally shut up after the last few years.

  19. flyeaglefly Says:

oc60 is right on.More importantly,we need better punt and kickoff results.Hixon doesnt have that quick initial burst. We need Selvin there this week. The Indy surface will favor his speed. Go Broncos,You can do it.GIT R DONE

  20. tonytdrummer@bellsouth.net Says:

Hixon is not dong the job you look at what he has done so far, NOTHING, I think they should give the ball to some one who has football savy on how to juke and move to make people miss, and that person is Selvin Young. He is fast has great moves has a low point is attack and most of all has great vision.

  21. JayCutler07 Says:

were def the underdogs but we can still beat them i mean weve got talent but the anallists think the colts got alot more bur were just as good as them if we focuses and do r best

  22. rigpa44 Says:

I predicted Broncos 10, Indy 35. Didn’t miss by much. The Colts looked just like they did last year against the Broncos. Their offense cut them to shreds. And their defense was stout enough. They’re a cut above along with the Pats. That’s just the way it is. Look for a .500 or less season out of Shanny and the guys. We’ll be reasonably good against other poor or mediocre teams. We could just as easily be 0-4 given the wing and a prayer in the first two games. There are too many holes in the defense and special teams play to stop good teams. The running game is good if everyone stays healthy. The passing game is ho-hum. Oh well. It’s still fun to watch.

  23. MileHighShack Says:

once again, the brain trust in Denver has decided we don’t need a defensive line or linebackers to actually win games

    morons

Granted we have some young guys playing, but we have the oldest defense (starters) in the league.

somebody, please bench Gold, move DJ to his right spot and let’s try to find a MLB somewhere
