OTA Day 13: The Answers Are Blowin’ in the Wind

What turned out to be a slight groin injury has left Brandon Marshall sidelined throughout much of team camp. But Wednesday’s OTA closed with Marshall working out under the close watch of assistant athletic trainer Corey Oshikoya, practicing his lateral movement while tethered to the goal post.
A day earlier, it was fellow wide receiver Glenn Martinez who moved back and forth across the field.

On the practice field, the story of the day was the weather.
Usually, practicing outside to prepare for the elements entails working out on a chilly day or with snowflakes falling. However, such meteorologically challenging workouts don’t usually take place until November or December.
That was not the case on Wednesday, as sustained winds of 32 miles per hour buffeted the Broncos, sending footballs flying all over creation and wide of their targets.
“Sometimes you’d see the ball go to the left goal post and it would go far wide right and almost in the parking lot,” defensive end Kenard Lang said.
Although the stiff breezes wreaked havoc with the field-goal attempts of Brandon Pace and Jason Elam — as well as the passes of Denver’s four quarterbacks — some tosses remained on the money, most spectacularly being a deep, 50-yard pass up the right sideline from Darrell Hackney to David Kircus during one-on-one drills.

… Jeff Shoate intercepted one of Jay Cutler’s passes in one-on-one work …
… Champ Bailey and Domonique Foxworth exchanged jerseys during the practice …

David Kircus is still w/ team? What is going to be happening with him in the future?

David Kircus will be on the team. After he passed the lie detector test for Mike Shanahan, regarding who started the fight he was arrested for, Shanahan announced he would be on the team regardless of his pending charges/trial.
I would look for him to make the final cut this year again. He was solid last year, and looks good this year.

To me Kircus is on the bubble, and it has nothing to do with the off-field stuff. If, and it is a big IF, the Broncos receiver situation works out they way we think and hope, Walker, Smith, Marshall will be the top 3 and Hixon will be the return guy/4th receiver.
With Morgan also having return experience I just think Kircus is the odd man out….The TE situation will also go a long way to determining the WR sitaution. If Scheffler can’t come back right away and the Broncos are forced to keep an extra TE that spot will probably come from the receiving corp…

and don’t forget Stokley…
But David has had an impressive offseason and was good in a pinch last year. I’d love to see him stick, but you’re right — it’s crowded.

I have to agree with TSG. I think Kircus is a bubble guy. Too, I think that the Broncos are going to keep at least 5, if not 6 WR’s, for at least 3 reasons: 1) Jay Cutler. I think if he keeps playing well and improving, he’s going to get to play more pitch-and-catch in games, which means they’ll likely need a 5th or 6th WR, especially if Heimerdinger goes into multiple receiver sets. 2) Rod Smith. Rod has been hurt/recovering all off-season and isn’t likely going to be in football shape for a while. Plus, at his age, coming off an injury like that, his potential for getting hurt is exponentially higher than a younger guy. So, again, they’ll need an extra WR in the fold. 3) Brandon Marshall. He missed most all of the OTA’s and in his, what, second day back, he hurts his quadricep? They’ll need an extra WR if this becomes a pattern. My picks: Smith, Walker, Stokley, Marshall, and…? Geez, it could be any of them. They all have something about them that makes me think they could significantly contribute. I do like that Glenn Martinez kid, he looks like one of those ever-popular big-framed, sizey receivers that have come up big in the last few years. And I can’t go with Hixon until he acutally plays and shows that he can. But, let’s find out who the last one or two will be.
