The fundraiser was for Dani’s Foundation that raises money for pediatric sarcomas, which is a rare form of cancer that strikes children and young adults.
It was a comical roasting of one of the greatest men in Broncos history, Steve Antonopulos. The Greek. The hosts were Ron Zappolo and Dave Logan. The evening started out with the Mayor cracking on “The Greek”, then Vic Lombardi, Rich Karlis, Billy Thompson, me, Keith Burns, Claudie Minor and Gary Zimmerman taking shots at him, along with many others in the crowd, as Roasts are suppose to be. Zappolo and Logan chimed in occasionally between speakers too, taking shots back at some of us that fingered them out a few times.
The event, like all Roasts, ended with “The Greek” getting the last shots/cracks in at all of us individually and then on many of the alumni in the crowd. He was hilarious cracking back on everyone.
It was a wonderful evening for a wonderful cause for a man I love. Steve kept me and many of my teammates, current and past players on the field and in the league, probably longer than some of us could have without him. He is loved dearly.
The side note that has been written about is how Jay wasn’t there. No one actually expected him there with the media circus that’s been going on that’s hopefully cleared up tomorrow so we can get back to the main agenda in Broncotown… winning football games, period. He made a donation to the cause, and I respect that. Thanks Jay, that was the right thing to do.
Like I said before, people make mistakes… you - me - the President - all of us. I can agree to disagree with anyone and still get along… that’s what we do for the betterment of the TEAM.
Some folks have asked if I cracked on Jay. You bet, just like I cracked on “The Greek” and about 10-15 others……. because that’s what you do at a Roast. :o)
Heck. I even cracked on myself. If you can’t laugh at yourself, you better check your pulse. I still take credit for Elway’s scrambling abilty.

Man’s testimony contradicts trooper’s
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3999985
JUST SOMETHING TO READ.
Screw all this controversy, I agree with Deon Sanders comment on Jay Cutler. “Be a man, Show up and lead your team”. Man-up Jay. And if you want out so bad, you will be missed, but I for one want a championship back in Denver.
I loved Cutler’s style of play, I do not like his tantrums he throws. Cutler had so many passing yards because, if all of us remember, we had no running backs. No RB’s = lots of passing yards. I don’t think our running backs combined rushed for more than 1,000 yds. Cutler can play football, but he too is showing his team he does not have their back. If he did, he would show up and suppoprt his teammates and lead them to victory. I am not choosing sides, however now that Cutler has allowed this to carry on so long, it’s hard to support him anymore.
As a fan I want Cutler back because he gives us the best chance to win. I also want what is best for the Broncos organization. Everyone looks at Cutler as the Second coming of Elway. Cutler is not John Elway!!! He doesn’t even belong in the same sentence with Elway. Elway was a proven winner, even with less talent around him he won. Cutler has loads of talent and yet they still fell short when it mattered the most. Cutler has only proven he could make it to the pro bowl. Individual statistics mean nothing, Wins and Losses are what matter most. Taking the weight of your team on your shoulders and winning proves something. Making it to the playoffs proves something, winning playoff games means something.
Jay, you say you want to be a Bronco for life, prove it! Stop whinning and hiding in the shadows, step foward, play for your TEAM first and the fans second. You wanna leave, you wanna go away cause things are not perfect, be part of the solution, not the problem. You are doing nothing to prove you want more than a new deal!!!! I’m not turning on the Orange and Blue because you are not here. I was a Broncos fan before you and will be one after you. If you want out that Bad, I say trade him to Detroit or Cleveland. Be careful waht you wish for you just might get it.
As For McDaniels, I think you should have been a man and stood up and told Jay you were entertaining a trade offer. Being honest will get you more in life than trying to keep secrets. Even the best kept secrets surface someday. If your gonna trade Jay then do it already. You don’t want him trade him, at least the fans will know. You also should be careful what you wish for. For every action has a reaction and an outcome. That may be good or bad. You have a 50/50 shot. Remember Denver Fans are growing impatient with loosing. We want an immediate turnaround. We want a playoff team NOW!!!! Hope you didn’t just make the biggest mistake of your life.
I do have to praise McDaniels for coming in and changing the culture of Broncos football. Something that has been missing for awhile. No one, and that means no one, is bigger than the TEAM. If McDaniles can win with a “nobody” named Cassel, then he can win with anyone!!!! Remember folks the offense will not be run in the ol stale Shannahan scheme anymore. Compare records from the PATS and the BRONCS last year. We were 8-8 and the Patriots were 11-5. 11-5 with a nobody at QB. 11-5 wins the AFC west easily.
It’s time for Cutler to either show up and be a man or it’s time for him to go. Either way, I’m here to stay. Obviously Cutler doesn’t care about the fans in Denver or fans worldwide. If he did he would be at Dove Valley supporting his teammates. There is more to his agenda than hurt feelings. GO BRONCOS!!!!! With or Without JAY.
Bring on the bashing post’s. I know my comments won’t be popular. So let’s here your responses. I speak from the heart and tell it like it is.
If Bowlen was willing to bend over backwards for Cutler, I can’t imagine why he would let anything or anyone (including Bus-y boy) try and stop him from keeping Jay. He is worth fighting for to keep, my word its his team… fight for it man!! Just another part of this stupid fiasco I don’t get… why is Bowlen letting something hold him back?? This is like jibberish to me.
Most of the pictures would be of the fans for the fans, however I would sneak in more than a few of Jay. Gotta keep an eye on my man, lol!!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ‘09!!!!
well here it is BRONCOMANIS56 you asked for an arguement…. you won’t get one from me. I have never thought much of dion sanders but his “man up” speach to jay was good.
bus still has one more card to play, and he will play it when the waves have calmed down. brace yourself for it. it is the ‘hold out’ for April 17 workouts.
i say we keep cutler so we dont waste dawkins 2 years left get him a ring
Why is there no news on the Broncos’ website about the problems relating to Jay Cutler? It seems to me that with Shanahan leaving the organisation has lost its class and has been extremely disrespectful to the multitude of diehard fans that love the Broncos.
Both Bowlen and McDaniels appear to think they are beyond reproach and more important than the team and its fans.
As for the Cutler situation is it possible that they are looking for an excuse to trade Cutler because he has diabetes and this could be problematic?
The ball is in bus cooks court and The Broncos are waiting. Like texark-fan said cook has not played his trump card yet, and he will. The closer it gets to The Draft is when we will see what happens.
If Cutler and bus cook hold out I say bench Cutler, or there will be a Trade. If Cutler hold out He should be held accountable. He signed a six year deal for 48mill. He should Honor that contract! He is not being paid less than Simms, the structure of His contract just looks that way.

I was wondering when someone would mention the diabetes. I think Jay proved it’s managable.
Deion was a great athlete. Maybe the best cover corner ever, and great dancer! But he never hit anybody. I remember Dad screaming at the screen, “Man up! Tackle somebody!” Funny. Just a guess, but I think he’d have been the first to bail when a new system threatened his career. For him to suggest ANYone else is a diva, well, pots and kettles.
McD is trying to make any move to improve the team. If he can get more than what he sees as Jay’s value, he’ll do it. Wins trump loyalty. Bottom line.
Jay’s not “whinning”. He sees the installation of a system that doesn’t suit his skill set. Brady and Cassel are bland system QBs, valued for a no-risk rhythm, balance and precision marching type approach. IMO, Jay can work that way, but is capable of much more. McD & co. have made it clear they want their own guy and can get by with less. So be it. Move on. Jay has NOT demanded more money. He has NOT slammed his team mates or the fans/community. He has not responded to NFL’s use-to-bes calling him out. He has asked management to be straight up and trust him or trade him, and get it done so he can be getting about the business of learning and adapting to the new system he’ll play in without distraction. As far as the meeting, the quote I heard was “I need all eyes on ME (McD) at the meeting, NOT on you.” or something to that effect. Sounds to me, if that statement is fact, like an invitation NOT to attend.
I’m guessing Jay is working out, and that he is studying the playbook. I’m guessing that he is in touch with the other players. I’m guessing what Deion and Elway say (or you and I) doesn’t matter much. Wherever he goes, he’ll make them better. I’ve enjoyed watching him play, and hope he stays. If not, I hope we get a boatload of talent to replace him.
Hopefully for everyone involved, we’ll hear something soon.
Chris Simms signed a 2yr contract for 6Mill.
bus cook will play his card when The Broncos need Cutler the most. Mark my words this will happen. Right now bus cook is playing the simpathy card makeing Cutler look like the victim, this is his MO. I’ve read this book before and I know the ending. When he has Cutler hold out you will see.
bus cook is a dirty player in this game of cards.

Great day in bronco land feels like football I hate the time between Jan and July but the draft is close its time for football. Hey real quick Question to all any heard of a rookie matt ryan or joe flacko before last year. they played QB and were in the playoffs. so can anyone really say and believe that you can’t find a QB to play, to all those that are kicking bowlen and Mcdaniels to the curb listen to this last season more fans wanted shannahan’ s head on a platter than at any other point in his carreer why because we the fans are tired of a medicore team every year we listened to mike’s speach believed this was the year and we go home early, so why are you all pissed at bowlen for giving all us what we have wanted for five years, does anyone remember our DC we were building a very good defense and oh ya the man you all wanted fired and oh give him one more year to give us a crap defense and a up and down offense he fired him remember mike did not pat mike was the man he also had no commoent on the why of why he was fired remember, so now we have a young coach new player’s a feeling that has been long in coming, ( winning ). If you all think this is Mcdaniels fault your fooling yourself cutler made it public knowledge he was upset when Mike was fired and when he found out jeremy was going to be let go once again he made his feelings known, so now his PR person and cook have marketed this to be a bronco’s and bowlen and coach’s fault not jay’s so what you truely have is wait one second just a thought everyone say’s coach D is young no experience as a head coach even though he has been coaching and learning from and around the best people for year’s so if he is young jay must5 still be a kid then Huh so what you get is a kid not liking his world using agents and the media to get his way. so open your mind to what I have said and think for yourself not what the media wants you to hear anyone that thinks they are telling yoiu the truth are idiot’s they tell what they want you to hear so the story can continue if there was only one person at fault there story would die, love the bronco’s and the fans alway’s

Kiszla: Cook is no top chef in Jay-C mess
By Mark Kiszla
The Denver Post

For example: If Cutler has anything more than a Beatles haircut between his ears, our disgruntled quarterback would come to his senses and do something smart for a change.
Cutler should fire Bus Cook, the two-fisted, money-grubbing agent who has Cutler wrapped around his finger like a puppet and seems to enjoy yanking the chain of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen.
While earning free publicity at the expense of Cutler’s good name, Cook has wrecked the working relationship between Jay-C and Denver to the point of no repair, if you’re asking me.
But that’s not even the saddest part of this NFL soap opera.
Cutler has been brainwashed by Cook to believe this 25-year-old player is far better than the impressive 4,526 yards passing and 25 touchdown passes he produced last season.
Broncomaniacs are panicking with the mistaken impression Cutler’s 17-20 record in Denver somehow qualifies him as a franchise quarterback to be retained at any cost.
And it has been screamed new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is doomed to failure, or should be fired on the spot, if he dares trade an unhappy camper who wants out of Denver.
Well, hate to be the one to introduce a heaping teaspoon of reality to this hysteria, but Mr. Cutler is not yet the quarterback that Cook would have you or his misguided client believe.
If you want to read the rest here is the link…

He makes some good points especially about Not long ago, there was a Broncos quarterback who made the Pro Bowl, got a championship ring as a gift and was favorably compared to Joe Montana by his coach, all by the time he was 25 years old.
Anybody consider Brian Griese a franchise quarterback now? HeHe… Cutler I hope your not headed in this direction.

2009 NFL Draft: Denver Has A Nice Ring To It.
The eventful offseason for the Denver Broncos continues next week as Scout.com confirmed that a Broncos offensive coach will travel to Michigan State to work out former Spartans running back Javon Ringer on Tuesday, March 24th.

after reading that i read the artical ‘bowlen staying out…’ that is a great artical if you have not read it. 3-22-2009 denver post. i would do like you (http:www and all of that) but i do good just trying to type.
still praying
sorry, should read; I HAD A LONG STATEMENT….
More emotion than logic sometimes here at BLOG-central. Mondono glad to hear our girls doing better, keep us up to speed, she’s still in our prayers.
Also, if your blog was deleted like oldsouthstander mentioned, there is a moderator and we need to keep it within reason or you’ll get nix-ed and rightfully so sometimes.
I’m ready to move on like many of you so let’s wrap this one up and great job of dropping in the QB ratings from last year and all-time. I saw a few of my buddies on there including Wood.
What folks don’t get sometimes is if a QB is pressured a lot…a good QB looks bad, fast. Take Testaverde as an example, he had a tough career because he had folks in his face all the time. Luckily he could scramble.
I’ll be on Gil Whitely’s show on Thursday at 12noon on AM radio and I’ll get the channel this week and drop it out to you all in case you want to call in. I did radio with Gil and Steve Watson years ago and we typically have a fun time.
Talking to a few insiders this week I worry Buz uses this as an opportunity to cahnge the stakes, get a new contract, maybe ask for a no cut clause…who knows…sad when an agents gets his grubby claws into these issues.
What Jay doesn’t understand is a career can be over with a few solid shots to the head or legs and the grass isn’t always greener…believe me I went from Denver to Tampa and had to break up a fight my first game in the locker room with a player and our head coach, Perkins. :o) That was a mind blowing experience. CRAZY! You should have seen the Ref’s face when he can into the lockerroom to give us the two minutes to get outside call and I’m bear hugging the headcoach is feet dangling and me yelling at him that we had a game to play.
P.S. hometeam007 who has time to fish with all these responses? Just kidding. Headed to Abaco in a few weeks to film for/with ESPN catching bonefish on the flats. That’s what I REALLY rather talk about. :o)
So, what do you all say….new post?? Your call…….you’re the PRO’s!!!
there is no one on here so, i can say what i want.
cutler was mad about the lose of shanny and said out of the spear of the moment ‘trade me too then’ and this all come about before mac showed up.
the “happy camper” came from cutler on 2-1-09. RICE. whitch P bowlen refered to later. this is the conversation he said he can’t remember. so when mac got a call from his old team he took it. and no duoght jat cutler was brought up. but as one report said it never crossed Bowlens desk. who is now taking charge of the team.
on 3-1-09 cutlers agent let it be known to the public that a deal fell threw and cuther was mad.
on march 3 cutler refused to talk to MCdaniel. Some time between march 3 and 7 P Bowlen called JAY and asked to call him back at a certan time on march 7 but MR JAY CUTLER was too good to call Bowlen back. what jay gets he has it comming to him. he and his agent want out of denver b/c of money, and thats all there is to it.
i would not like jay to leave but so be it. he will be a good q/b some day, but not today. 3 year man and never made the playoffs, but 2 q/b rookies did it last year. and 2 or 3 rookie coaches did to. this is why shanny lost his job. this and the fact that he let the D go to hell.
no one has made the statement that SHANNY WAS A GREAT COACH AND J WAS A GREAT Q/B. if this was true why could we not win. with all this about us being #2 and all. we are the 16th not 2. and stats are for losers anyway.
did any ever think that the D was so tired becouse of all of the 3 and outs or all of the ints. OUR #2 off. could not score in the red zone for sh–. i called denver the 7-3-0 team the last few years b/c thats how the O played. 1st time 7 points, 2nd time 3 points and the 3rd 0 points. Oh we scored a lot of points last year but against who??
Some thing everyone is forgeting or wont say is mac wanted casle he trained him. and everyone says he onlt was 11-5 b/c of all that talent around him. What are you calling royal, b/m ect ect. and i asume that the o-line had no talent either. you cutler fans can’t have it both ways. next year you can say you are right becouse casle is in K C and the will be bad. but what if cutler were there and castle here. then who would be better?
and for those of you that say ‘we don’t want to be the N.E. of the west’. i hope we bring in all New England players they know how to be a TEAM and win games.
and i was the first to say things about his agent. i was also first to say what is in the POST today. i should not have said that but it is true. and i am also saying cutler will wear #6 for denver if coach mac and b x and bowlen can help it. that means if jay will”MAN UP” as dion said and not be a child any more. a 25 year old child with a brains and an arm. or maybe thats NO brains and an arm
monodono, this is my last blog. i will still pray for your g-daughter. b/c i have a daughter in denver that will forever be 9 mts old.
YES Coop, put up a new blog!! And if all possible avoid this forever going subject… I’m annoyed!!!! Gonna be hard to get people to stop talking about it cause obviously this blog about Greek turned into 300+ comments about all this insanity. Sad that this situation overshadowed an event for a good cause. That’s how ridiculous this thing has gotten to be… more than half of the people on here never even said a word about the roast and how well it went.
I’ll get off my soapbox but YES again… put up a new blog when you find the time. You’ll probably put me to sleep with an entire blog about fishing (no offense to you or all you fishermen out there) but my mind is completely taken up by this Cutler situation, I honestly couldn’t suggest anything so can’t argue with ya. When the draft gets closer, obviously we’ll want something about that and I’d love to know your thoughts on who we should get. Something other than this depressing news would be a nice change of pace!
And monodono - still praying for your grandaughter. God be with her and your family.

Here’s an interview with Belichick in The Boston Globe everybody should read.He didn’t deny that Denver made a last-minute overture about a three-way trade that league sources said would have netted the Patriots a first-round pick, but
REPEAT Belichick said the Broncos, or any other team, never presented a concrete trade offer that was better than the deal they made.
please Bronco Fans read this interview and learn. It starts off talking about The Patiots trying to pickup Peppers then moves into the Cassel trade.

I got a question and it’s still hypothetical and by no means do I want Cutler to be traded, but what if Jay does get traded and say Chris Simms does become our starting QB(like I said Hypothetical)
that would shift the pressure on our OLine to the R Tackle to protect Simms’ back side. My question is How do you feel about Ryan Harris doing this or would you switch and put Ryan Clady on the right side?
Personally I think Harris did a great job on the right side last year but thats not against the best pass rushers.
I just thought it was interesting to know how others would see it(Hypothetically).

Denver’s focus on defense for top draft pick
It also talks about Dever dangleing RB’s as trade bait.
I wonder why Klis left Cory Boyd, Spencer Larsen, and Andrew Pinnock off the list?
Here’s a quote from Mr. Bowlen on the toughest situations.
And, no, the Cutler controversy isn’t among the toughest ordeals Bowlen has experienced. He picked two others.
“Looking back at it, I’d have to say losing the first one,” Bowlen said of Super Bowl XXI, when Phil Simms, father of current Broncos quarterback Chris Simms, completed 22-of-25 passes for the victorious New York Giants. “Because you really don’t know what it’s like. You go into that, you’re not thinking about losing.
“And Darrent Williams was certainly one of the worst things I’ve ever had to go through as Broncos owner, as a human being.”
Williams, a 24-year-old cornerback who came to the Broncos from Oklahoma State, was slain in a drive-by shooting in Denver on Jan. 1, 2007.
Broncos Fans should never forget those two “ORDEALS”
