The Good, Bad and the Ugly

October 2nd, 2011 - 10:20pm by mark_cooper

Saw it all today! Good defense at times, sacks by Von Miller, great catches by Decker and Lloyd and others. Another 100+ yard rushing day by McGahee and some good offensive line play.

The bad, playing the former Super Bowl Champs and their offensive firepower/flamethrowing QB without Champ and all our young defensive backs except Dawk.

The Ugly, was turnover and penalties.

Can’t compete at this level with Turnovers and Penalties…but again I saw a lot of good. I like the nucleus and with some more experience and depth and drafts I ABSOLUTELY think we are on the right track. It’s winning one battle at a time, not so much the game with a new coaching staff, new team, and all the young players we have.

I’m optimistic…are you??
GO BRONCOS!!

What I want to hear is Elway’s take on Tebow’s lone play and the reasoning behind it. What reason could they have possibly had to put him in for the one play, on a crap down, and not put him on the field again? Mark my words, I will be tweeting that particular question on Tuesday.

  2. seweatherman1 says:

You’ll be wasting your time. There will be a scripted answer for it and I bet Fox answers just that in his interview. I wouls also like to know why they had TT on the sidelines in the 4th with over 4 minutes left warming up and stretching getting ready to go in? The commentators even joked about Fox not putting him in for some much needed experience.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Just making sure you didn’t get in moderation problems yesterday since we haven’t heard you yet today.

  5. RabidOrange says:

stevecan2 was having some issues with his account apparently last nite. he was on with a different handle.

Fox already answered why TT wasn’t in at the end. He said it was because “our starting quarterback needs experience!” He even said it with the emphasis. Sounded pretty heated about it. Apparently, 7 years isn’t enough experience…

  6. seweatherman1 says:

If that is the case, we are screwed shure enough next year, and the 5 years thereafter.

  7. royalbroncofan1 says:

Packers no doubt a high powered running machine. Look even better than they did last season. Too much firepower for us though we all knew that before the game.

Still good to see some bright spots:

Von Millers two sacks…nice job of blowing by Baluga’s backup!
Elvis was back in the building but not quite ready to step up to the mic.
Rahim the dream gets his first pick!
Eric Decker is no longer a sleeper in fantasy football! (I’m voting for him for Madden ’13 cover next year)!
    Mays layed some wood..
Orton made a few good plays in the 2nd qtr, except in this game it started with ugly first (pick 6), good second (2 tds) and bad third (2 ints).
    Only 3 penalties called..
Good job on the O-line againts the number #1 rush defense in the league… way run hard McGahee! (Let’s go Beadles!).

Well I predicted we’d lose by 24 pts and we lost by 26. Didn’t have the point total correct. I know that doesn’t count…lol.

  8. bronco life says:

take away kyles 3 turnovers and we have a real close game thats alot of points GIVEN UP!!

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Excellent feel for the game rbf1, wish I had different ways of rewarding certain predictions, like the corect score for either team, and the correct spread but it just gets way too complicated for a one man show, haha.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Take away the fact that we had to go to Lambeau to face Rodgers and we could of easily won that game, LOL.

  11. killerkod says:

Okay……….time to chime in I guess.

Take away those turnovers and this game would still not be close. The Packers O had their way with our D and with the exception of a couple of great plays by Von, the entire D looked just as aweful as the O.

I still dont understand why this team can’t tackle……….how much YAC was there due to the inability to wrap people up? We got completely owned on D.

And Kyle…………oh Kyle. At least you have some bloggers on here still defending you…….poor souls. You’re a sorry excuse for a QB. If this game was to be close, it needed to be a shootout at the OK Corral….and apparently you ran out of bullets when counted on………….sound familiar? Story of your life. The O-line is actually giving you protection, but you still can’t really do anything with it.

At this rate, we’re lucky we’ll win another game the entire season. No more predictions from me based on heart……….just cold facts. And the facts say that the 2011 Denver Broncos are a joke and one of the worst teams in the league. Hurts me to say that, but they haven’t shown me otherwise.

  12. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Yeah, just kiddin bay…lol.
We can only focus on our “baby steps” for now.

Hope Elvis worked out some cobwebs….

I don’t see anyone stopping Rodgers and the Pack. It could be a Packers/Patriots SB this year.

  13. HardHitting27 says:

I was going to let my Orton bashing lay low for a week and with good reason. Everyone else is saying what I feel already.

Same thing week in and week out:
    too slow
    not strong armed
    can’t run
    can’t read
    locks on to rcvrs
    picks
    etc, etc

and as has been stated several time already the O line was protecting him giving him time……. and he’s our best chance to win?

Oh and John Fox, what the heck is this statement: “We need our starting quarterback to get experience for us to improve. That’s the idea behind that. You know he needs to get better in our system,” Fox said. “I know he gets judged on the past couple of years, but we’re trying to get him better in our system and use that experience to get better.”

Wasn’t it his experience with the system and grasp of the offense that earned him the starting job?

    I call B S

    Go Broncos!!!!

  14. HardHitting27 says:

Thank you CAPT STATES THE OBVIOUS for this comment:

“We lost to a better team today, no doubt about it,” said Kyle Orton, who finished the game with 273 passing yard, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

and a better QB. Those 273 yards and 3 tds don’t mean squat when you also throw 3 picks.

  15. oldsouthstander says:

Unlike many bloggers, despite the pasting we took at GBs hand, I’m impressed with the way the Broncos played yesterday. Think back to the Raiders game at Mile High last year. We went down 21 points in a hurry and the whole team phoned in the rest of the game. Yesterday we went down 21-3 in a hurry, but, a very big but, WE DIDN’T QUIT! The negatives are obvious. Rogers is playing the game on a level several steps above any other QB. The onside kick what what a good team does when you’ve got the other team reeling. You step even harder on their throat. Great call by GB special teams coach!!!
But there were many positives: 1) McG running over 100 yards; 2) OL palying much more as a well oiled unit; 3) Decker contiunues to improve; 4) Von is fast becoming a highlight machine; 5) Kicker and punter are far above average; 6) NO STUPID PENALTIES!!!; 7) The whole team refuses to quit no matter how bad things are going.
I’m looking forward to the SD game Sunday.

  16. oldsouthstander says:

    PS
It looked to me like KM pulled up lame on that screen pass late in the game. Anybody else think the same?

  17. killerkod says:

I think KM has pulled up lame on his career……….not just that play. What a waste of a draft pick that bust was/is.

  18. brian_schneider says:

We’re definitely improving as a team but Orton still isn’t playing at a high level, a high level that the media and coaching staff brainwashed some to think Orton could play at.

  19. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Thx for kudos bay.
Also thanks you for all the work you do with the weekly picks and keeping track!

  20. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Saw the same thing oldsouthstander.

  21. RSH says:

There’s a Curse Hanging Over the Denver Broncos

That curse started when Jake Plummer was benched in 2006 when Denver had a record of 7-4. The Broncos are 30-43 since benching Plummer and have not been to the playoffs since. The span includes two epic late season collapses and all kinds of off the field problems and tragedies.

  22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Too many things just went too wrong too fast. They were just way better than us and apparently the panthers will kick our Butts too because they gave GB a fight. Granted I believe Champ woulda made a difference but not enough to win so im glad he rested.

Its not Ortons fault we lost … losing is rare wholy and fully the QBs fault but his play was bad …. and if what we are going for this years is “best chance to win” … tough cookies because we are not gonna win with Orton and he will take his 10 mill and won’t be back next year. But if we were to play Tebow … not because he is flawless or will lead us to the superbowl … we will learn alot about this team …. sooner.

The D wasn’t bad but they were so confused on alot of their 5 wide spreads. Some of them were still peeking in the backfield and got torched (Jordy Nelsons first TD, Dawk and Vaughn) … cuz vaughn shoulda been more than fast enough to stay with Nelson but the play action got em hook line and sinker. Can blame Dawk but Vaughn got torched alot too … this is just like his 4th real game as a starter … we have nothing but patch works on the field. Even Goodmans playing weak. Best CB right now is Wilhite in my book. Great addition.

Like Fox … but he is gonna have to grow some cajones sooner or later … cuz this team doesn’t have the best chance to win … and if Orton was Rodgers … maybe HE would be strong enough to lift up this team and give it the best chance to win … but he is not … evidenced by his 3 picks … especially the pick 6 that pretty much lost us momentum whether u wanna agree it or not … sure we came back close but at that point we were already playing catch up and u cannot play catch up against the Packers … Fells fumble also a killer but by that time we were pretty done IMO. Play Tebow … lets suffer through his growing pains now when we pretty much don’t have a snowballs chance as a team. TRB

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, here are the wins folks pretty much counted on before the season started:

    Detroit and Buffalo

Those look pretty tough now, LOL!

Still have a shot at Miami, the Bears at home? don’t personally think so but gotta look for wins somewhere, Minnesota and home against KC, but that’s only 5 wins and I predicted 6, shuck! haha.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, we are not playing the Panthers, good thing, can’t believe I just said that.

  25. killerkod says:

yah, well I predicted 7 and I feel like quite the schmuck for it now……lol I thought I was being conservatively optimistic………….not plain BONKERS! lol

btw-did you see KM fall off the stationary bike? HILLARIOUS!

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Unless we and them make it to the SB, talk about a turnaround year, haha.

  27. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Altho I think if Orton is Benched … they should try Quinn before Tebow … Now quinn has really not had a fair shake since he got here and was the only one who didn’t get to play last year … and while I don’t think he is it … he deserves the right to sink or swim by his play. He came here hoping to compete and in 2 years would be sad if he never touches the field in a regular season game. And like some say that would negate both thier escalators … but the players seem to back Orton … like they should … because he is their current QB … but also because I think they are all tired of the unbelievable Tebow love … prolly were mad how much love he was getting as a gator and cant understand why as a 2nd stringer he is still getting love lol … If i was them I would be slightly irritated too lol

  28. strandoftds says:

It was cool seeing Doom out on the field. I was happy about that.

  29. killerkod says:

Matthew Stafford……….now there’s someone clutch. Horrible start to the game but he never gave up and led the team to victory……..If he can stay healthy, he will be a force in the league for years to come. You see Orton, that’s something you’ll never be.

  30. henryac says:

The only true standard you can measure any player at any position is how well he plays the game in pressure situations. Anybody can play when everything is peachy-rosey, its when the wheels fall off, the car burns down, and somebody comes along and scatters the ashes, that the real competitors come out. They get up, gather all the pieces they can find, and start over. We will get to see how many real football players there are on the Broncos this week, and I am afraid there may not be all that many. There are a lot of guys who are playing positions but not a whole lot of football players out there and, for now except for a couple of notable exceptions, most seem to be on defense. No single player completely ruins a team but we have all seen a single player lift a team way above their norm on the field. And that is what Denver needs more than anything else right now, a reason to believe. I don’t think they see a reason at this point.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

The sorriest thing was watching Moreno falling over himself with his lower legs and ankles completely giving out under him under NO CONTACT at all! And of course I about pi**ed my pants laughing when Fox called a run up the middle with Moreno on the failed two point conversion, I guess Fox doesn’t bother watching last season’s films. Absolutely absurd!!!!

  32. 1nOnlyTRB says:

You are right bay … talk about a Turn around … but I do think they might could own us lol.

I think we are getting better … but that GB game just overshadowed our improvements … its like thx to that game and how bad and unbelievable it was … nothing else that happened this season matters … how good this team is will always be decided by the GB game … and lets be real … we know we aint superbowl class … I was hoping we would be at least … “just short of the playoffs” good … but don’t even know about that … lol

    TRB

  33. strandoftds says:

the way I see yesterdays game is going head to head against the world champs and we are still in pee wee league, not even close to being close. LOL

  34. strandoftds says:

    Moreno is horrible!

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Well said Henryac … thats what many of us have been trying to say about pressure situations and I concur that this team needs an inspirational lift on the field … someone that will keep em believing and fighting. TRB

  36. strandoftds says:

My hats off to G.B. There going all the way again I think.

  37. Orange_Crusher says:

I wonder if Fox is boiling under his skin that he can’t just scream into the microphone (we can’t start Tebow until week 9 because of his contract!!!)

Instead he has to stand there and continue the same humpty-dumpty tune that “Orton gives us the best chance to win”…

I wonder if he really believes that???

  38. baylinorcrush says:

Other than making money I’m sure Fox is thinking what kind of a hornest nest did I just step into.

  39. armadillo_orton says:

Mr. Fox, I want to sincerely apologize for all of my heated smack talk on this site. I think you are an extremely wise and thoughtfull man, and I wish you well.. I hope you can find it in your big heart to start Quinn for a few weeks (we all know about the 11 million), and that will help the fans to regain their sanity.. I know that there is no way that you can be as bullheaded as McD was in the Hillis situation. Clearly you respect and appreciate the fans that provide the revenue for your weekly check. I look forward to your continued brilliant leadership, and I look forward to the QB change. I hope my apology was accepted, and good day sir to yourself and your family.

    Sincerely,

Your Beloved Fan and Bronco Fanatic

  40. killerkod says:

Hornets nest? Looks more like a possum lodge! haha

  41. baylinorcrush says:

And he goes on thinking “no wonder so many candidates turned the job down” haha, not funny really, but oh so true…

  42. baylinorcrush says:

    Armadillo is switching tactic, LOL.

  43. seweatherman1 says:

Why can’t they rotate Quinn and Tebow each game. One this week, the other the next week. What could possibly hurt that?

  44. seweatherman1 says:

    new blog.

  45. Broncfalls says:

    LMFAO! @ armadilo_orton!

and here I thought I was the always polite politicaly correct blogger! LOL

  46. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Nice post henryac….couldn’t agree more.

  47. Broncfalls says:

Thank the Lord deer season opened up Oct. 1st here in Illinois! For a minute there I was wondering what to do on Sundays!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  48. baylinorcrush says:

    Isn’t squirrel season year round?

  49. Broncfalls says:

…have to admit that Moreno DID sell that flea flicker well..dancing around there behind the line of scrimmage!

The part that sucks is, it was the “true” running style that sold it! LOL! dancing, stepping, turning..for no gain!

and I actually bought his jersey! C’Mon Man! LOL!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  50. orangecrushTD says:

John Fox is about as exciting as Orton is. Does anyone think that this coach is the future of our franchise? I don’t… Does anyone think that if our team keeps this up that Fox will still be our coach at the end of the season? Elway can’t trust him that much. Does anyone think that there’s a chance Fox will start Tebow this year? I’m beginning to think no…

I’m calling the upset against SD, with or without Tebow being our starter.
