The “D’s” back in Defense

November 28th, 2009 - 8:28am by mark_cooper

Great Game!!! Love beating the Giants!!! I still have a grudge that dates back to SB XXI.

Nice to see the team back in form. Yea, it took a few weeks but the “D” is back and RUNNING GAME was on track. Funny how we all talked about getting the running game on track the last few weeks and how it would help the offense.

Yea, yea, some will be saying we got to the red zone a few times and came away with three but it was enough this week. Like you, or many of you, I say, run the ball all way in. We’d get down close to the end zone and go to a four-wide set and I think that is a disadvantage … takes away the draw play and the defense knows Kyle’s not going to run a QB draw with his injury so the defensive lineman pin their ears back and only have ONE thing to worry about (the pass rush) and/or we see a blitz with it. I know I sound like a EX offensive lineman, (I’m allowed) when I say run it but I have to say, “when it ain’t broke (between the 30s) don’t try to fix it.” The linemen get in a groove and rhythm.

The dictionary says rhythm is a “regular recurrence of elements in a system of motion.” The offensive lineman’s definition is, “we smash em in the mouth, then slice and dice em while we pound them into the end zone.” I think I’ll call Webster’s Dictionary and see if they will add my version?? What do ya think? :o )

Here’s what happens in a Mile High stadium. You pound those big defensive lineman and you chop and cut them to the ground everytime you can. They have to get up and chase the play and by the 3rd-4th quarter, they are tired … and that’s a distinct advantage at a Mile High. Bootlegs help make them run around and scramble plays too. Make those big bodies run, like they’re not use to. “Advantage Broncos.”

I was fortunately at the game this week and I have to tell you I really enjoyed watching the Giants fans all decked out in their jerseys, faces painted. Some had old helmets and new helmets without facemasks and stayed sitting in their seats (quietly) while the Broncos fans had the night of their lives cheering and jeering.

I was in the Budweiser Club box, which I love because I get to watch the game from the front and behind and see the running lanes and plays develop and see the gaps and the cutback lanes. Most folks say they like watching the game from the sides but you have to remember that’s the angle we use to watch film at as an offensive line, so, to me, it’s natural. We’d watch film from behind the offense and the DB’s were rarely in the picture as we watched everyone in the box to include linebackers and a strong safety for the most part.

So let’s see if the bandwagon fills up again this week as some of you got down on Moreno, Orton and Coach McDaniels over the last few weeks? Hey, don’t break an ankle jumping back on, we don’t want anyone to get hurt out there. I can see the moonwalking now!!

And Marshall … all I have to say is WOW!! What an athlete. He’s worth the price of admission himself when he plays like that. How many kids do you think will be out on the play grounds imitating those two catches he had??? I bet for weeks. I remember doing “exactly that” after watching games as a kid.

Hey, sidenote. I went to see Blind Side last night. GREAT MOVIE, brought back a lot of memories of those days as a high school kid being pursued to go to college. Wonderful story. I read the book a few years ago and it’s worth the read too!! You all will enjoy either the way you know your football.

Can’t wait to hear your feedback!!

Coopster, Indeed it was a great game. One I’ll remember for a long time. Truly awesome to see the boys come out in full attack mode and totally dismantle the Giants. They should be very proud of themselves for playing with such consistency… like I’ve been saying all along… and for playing their hearts out. They totally grasped the concept of giving 110% from start to finish. They did that till the clock said 0:00. After 4 losses, this win was VERY impressive. I knew they would come around. That’s the Bronco team I know and love… always finding a way to come back and shock the world. I’m sure no one thought they’d win this game especially after losing 4 straight.

Only one thing left to say: Now that was Bronco football all the way.

Now that they’ve come back to life, they need to stay consistant with that (hint, hint) and really hand it to the Chiefs. I’m surrounded by all these KC crazies… I need bragging rights bad! We are a better team than KC but I’ve been to more games at Arrowhead between these two teams to say that, that place is simply nuts. I’m done going to games there… dare I say its probably worse than going to a game at the Black Hole. lol Arrowhead is a VERY tough place to play at for the Broncos, always has been. But look what we just did to the Giants. Play like that, play with such heart & fire against KC… and they’ll go back home victorious. KC is definitely not a team to be underestimated or overlooked in any way but thay are beatable. So like Nike would tell our boys… just do it. lol Beat them. I can’t stand the Chiefs… take ‘em out!!!

    Keep the faith Bronco Country…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  2. 07elway says:

Oh and a congrats is in order to Davis & Sharpe for being named HOF semifinalists. Hoping & praying they can make it all the way this time and not get ripped off. I’ll take just one more in the HOF but these two going in the same year would be to awesome! The HOF needs some more Bronco lovin! ha

  3. stillafan says:

That was an impressive performance by the Broncos. After four very subpar games. I hope this is the start of another win streak but hopefully not to be followed by another four game skid. I also hope they can find consistency and play well the rest of the season. My old heart can’t take to much stress and the Broncos (at least so far) have been very inconsistent and somewhat stressful to watch. So that being said GO BRONCOS!!! BY the way I never got off the bandwagon however I was almost thrown off by the huge bumps in the road that the Broncos hit as the season has played out.

  4. raidrhadr says:

Coop!! Great post. Not only did we pound those big linemen as you said but we got right into Osi Umenyiora’s head. Even Orton got in his grill. Loved it! Being a south stander of old, I always appreciated seeing the line play from that angle as well and learned alot about football as a result with Dad’s help. We did dominate the line of scrimmage for sure. Knowshon had his best run of the year in the first half. Both of the Giants DTs were in the backfield and Knowshon juked left and made them run into each other and fall down and sprinted for a nice gain. It was awesome how he sidestepped. He was also a shoestring takle away from taking one to the house early too.

!!!!!! I OWE ALL OF BRONCO COUNTRY A HUGE APPOLOGY. SINCE DENVER’S DEFENSE WAS DOING SO WELL IN THE FIRST 6 GAMES I DECIDED TO START THEM IN MY FANTASY LEAGUE RIGHT BEFORE THE BALTIMORE GAME AND LEFT THEM STARTED UNTIL I BENCHED THEM RIGHT BEFORE THE GIANTS GAME. OF COURSE THE 4 GAME SLIDE HAPPENED IN THAT TIME FRAME. APPARENTLY I FORGOT WE LIVE IN REALITY IN BRONCO LAND. I’M DEEPLY SORRY FOR THIS HUGE ERROR. IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN. !!!!!!

I’m not superstitious really but, it is odd that it went down that way.

I won’t be injuring any lower extremeties jumping back on Coop because, like a true fan, I never jumped off. Like you said in last post “I like this team” and I do too. The teminology that comes from the players in interviews mimics Coach McD’s. That means the players believe and are still onboard with the philosophy. Tough matchup coming in Arrowhead though. Hope the guys get some good rest this weekend and work hard to prepare. Coach McD should be able to disect Cassel huh? Bring it!!!

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

  5. louisianabroncofan says:

hey coop. it was absolutely a great game but maybe you, as a former player, can tell me how a team can look like the broncos did during the 6 game win streak, and then completely morph into the team we were during the 4 game losing streak, and the next game go back to playing like the 6-0 team. i mean these two teams were completely different to me and it makes no sense. i can see a team havin a few tough games because of a couple of facets of the game were struggling or a match up problem or two but the broncos were two completely different teams from one week to the next. whats with that? and is there even an answer? maybe it cant be explained like alot of things. i dunno. its not the first time its happened or the first team it happened to but i never have understood it and always wondered what the deal was. now that the broncos have given me a perfect example of this wierdness and i can ask you, who has been on an NFL team (and some bloggers), theres a chance that maybe a question i’ve had for years (and it has bugged me) can finally be answered. maybe. maybe i’m seeing it wrong. either way i’d like to know. you know?

  6. Beastyfan says:

I for one would have sided with Moreno on that goal line touch against the chargers but would have been very angry with Coach on that onside atempt that ultimately cost us the game. However I have been saying all year we have not been stressing the run enough as of late and it seemed to me that early in the season we ran a lot of power trap and counter run schemes which are not the forte of a smallish O-line, over the last few games it seems that we were reverting back to the zone blocking standard we are used to here in D-town and while it was slow to start it seems that we have re-cooped and found our legs again Moreno looks now like the RB we thought he could be now that the correct Run blocking scheme is being used for our talents.

  7. Beastyfan says:

WOW what catches by THE BEAST to keep the ball moving in the right direction. Keep it up Marsh you are doing great don’t lose your cool and just play ball.

  8. Broncsfan83 says:

Ok first off great win against the Giants now lets run the table and take the west from SD. I am liking what I am seeing from Orton but lets be real he is not the future for us. I am liking the idea of Tebow to be brought in to run the wild horses, or maybe McCoy from Texas. I was also thinking maybe we could work out a deal with Philly and bring Vick in. What do you guys think. LEt me know

  9. brian_schneider says:

That was a very good game. I actually got to watch the game which was very unexpected.
We played like we did in the first 6 weeks. We got the running game involved and I saw Moreno was definately holding on to the ball for life. The D is back to top form, aggressive and winning the turnover margin. We totally made them one dimensional, shutting down the run. Orton and Marshall they seem to be more and more in sync each week. Some may say Marshall is making Orton look good..maybe, but Orton is putting the ball in a place for Marshall to go up and get it. It goes both ways, Marshall gets a chance to just go up and make a play, and Orton gets the chance to just put the ball up and have the confidence that Marshall is going to get it. Something that some QBs don’t ever get the luxary of. Orton just looks so confident and is making some good throws. Said I’d like to see Stokely involved more well can’t get more involved than getting a TD reception. That players only meeting I think really helped out the team. Hopefully we can keep that mentality and intensity up.
Now we need to go to KC and continue to clean house.

    Go Broncos!!!!

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Coop, great to hear your analogy of watching the game from the ends, rather than the sidelines, I’ve done both and I love it from the ends, only huge draw back is when they’re on the other end of the field, then it’s like watching it on a 7 inch portable TV, LOL.

This game was fantastic and what really pleases me most about it is that it was won in the trenches on both side of the ball, probably rated as one of the best beat down in the trenches I have ever seen, and I have watched nearly every game for 35 years… It was one for the ages and doing it to the Giants, like you said, makes it even more special because of that certain Pasadena game in early 87 which I attended, nose bleed level seat, Southeast corner of the end zone.

Here are some of the highlights of the game I saw:

    1) Dawkins, an absolutely unbelievable performance, both in coverage and on tackles, I swear that had to be right up there if not better than any safety performance ever put on the field in Bronco history, including Dennis Smith, Steve Atwater and John Lynch. The monster on the loose…

    2) Marshall, the 2 one handed long bomb catches, who said Orton can’t throw it long?, were all time highlight reel material, the difference maker on O.

    3) McD’s rant on the sideline, got the O line’s attention for the rest of the game.

    4) Both lines won the battle in the trenches, totally manhandled their bigger Giants counterpart, made me a proud man to dictate the game like that in the trenches on both side of the field, best performance of the season.

    5) Moreno’s best game of the season, if not for the holding penalty by Graham, which I couldn’t see anyway, Moreno would of added about 30 yards to his total and easily would of gone over 100 for the first time. Superb spin move, hard running, no fumbles.

    6) Doom’s two sacks giving him 14 for the year, great to see him back at it.

    7) The backfield other than Dawk, Goodman and Bailey were outstanding all night. Goodman almost had 3 INT’S!

8)Scheffler made the best of absolutely every opportunity he got, outstanding game and effort.

    9) Prater was absolutely awesome, 4 FG’s and 5 KO’s deep into the end zone, safe to say you can all quit worrying about him.

    10) ST in general, Bruton the brute just too much fun to watch, 2 great tackles on returns to keep them inside their 20’s and the over the head batting of the ball to keep it inside the 10 on a Berger punt, which brings up Berger who didn’t see much action, but held for the 4 FG’s, put that punt inside the 10 and deliver a booming punt earlier in the game, high AND long. Let’s give respect where it is due.

That’s the way I remember it.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Broncsfan83, Tebow, McCoy, Vick, are you kidding me? This is NOT the time to discuss all this off season stuf, this is time for a possible playoff run and time to enjoy what we have on the field NOW, and Orton MIGHT even be the long term QB for us that you don’t think he is. But like I said, let’s get our priorities straight and roll with what we got on the field now, keep the mumbo jumbo for when there is nothing else to do, after our season is complete. Man, I am glad Players, namely Orton, probably don’t read these blogs, imagine what a let down you would be…

  12. baylinorcrush says:

That’s what I think, and I let you know, as you requested.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

And Coop, I second the question asked by Louisianabroncofan. As a NFL player, how can a team completely blow it after a 6-0 start and go on a 4 game losing streak morphing into a completely different team?

What was most disturbing about that was that they laid an egg at home against SD in what was the most important game of the season and the end result is we are no longer in control of our destiny as far as winning the division is concerned. To not be 100% ready for that game was inexcusable for a professional team, and SD didn’t even play that good, all they did is run for 203 yards, with hardly any passing needed, because we let them run it down our throat. Then the Giants come along and they can hardly get any yards on the ground?!?!? No matter how great this game was, I can’t forgive the team for their performance 4 days earlier, simple as that.

  14. Broncfalls says:

    PLEASE READ:

Brian Urlacher’s response to Jay Cutler as Chicago’s QB as the Chicago Bears played Minnesota Sunday afternoon taken from an interview with Yahoo Sports:

“Look, I love Jay, and I understand he’s a great player who can take us a long way, and I still have faith in him,” Urlacher said. “But I hate the way our identity has changed. We used to establish the run and wear teams down and try not to make mistakes, and we’d rely on our defense to keep us in the game and make big plays to put us in position to win. Kyle Orton might not be the flashiest quarterback, but the guy is a winner, and that formula worked for us. I hate to say it, but that’s the truth.”

***** I know most of us embraced Kyle, I thought this put some perspective to what a future HOF line backer thought of Kyle….I just wanted to share, I thought it showed Kyle some respect that I believe he deserves.

Coop thanks again for everything that you do with the blog!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  15. mark_cooper says:

Louisianabroncofan and baylinorcrush, good question and a frustrating ones for the team and the fans.

In my humble opinion, here’s what I saw. A team playing extremely well that may have thought they could make any call and it would go their way. We never really established any real running game or passing game with any real consistency, but we won. You might say we had a great game play but never really got good at anything other than mixing it up enough to keep the defense guessing.

We mixed it up enough and have enough great athlete’s to make it happen. Had a few calls go our way that helped. (Always does in the NFL) Over time your good at a lot of stuff but a master at none and when you need one facet of the game more than another to beat a team that (KNOWS) your tendencies and trends, you’re not good enough (practiced) enough to take say, the running game to control the game and rst the defense and gain T.O.P.

In the beginning the Defense was in the right spots with gap control and an over-laying defense that didn’t have big gaps or weak spots or cutbacks. So injuries and overconfidence and a playing out of position trying to make plays hurts. Guys get banged up or get more time than they’re use to or in situations they aren’t use to things get a little loose.

Give full credit to the coaching staff (A+) because these guys remind me of the NO-NAME defense’s I’ve seen in the past around the league….but they have Champ, Dawkins Dumervil….so you have 3 names? We’re not exactly loaded with Pro-bowlers (like other D’s in the league) and our defensive line is playing over their heads in my opinion based on the offensive lines I’ve seen of late that have man-handled other teams. No disrespect intended by the way, because collectively they play as a TEAM. And that’s what wins.

NOW, don’t forget the turnovers and penalties and a great team doesn’t win either.

I give full credit to the coaching staff. I don’t have all the answers believe me but that’s what I saw from my past experiences with a great team here while in Denver and then with an also ran Buccaneers team in the 80′s under Ray Perkins.

So that’s a pretty broad brushed overview without trying to break it down further and you all falling asleep at your computer terminals. :o )

By the way, 07elway, you’re exactly right, by the way. We have really been a rather poor road team in Kansas City and sounds like you sat through a few. I played there as a rookie in 37 degrees below with the wind chill in December……….wow that hurt.

Hey, raidrhadr, I didn’t miss that post…..hey Mondono, look what raidrhadr confessed to…..Guess (YOU TWO) get the blame from here on out for the 4 mis-fires….thanks a lot?!? :o )

    Coop

  16. whitebronco#1 says:

    Cheers Coop!

It’d be awesome to be at the game there at Budweiser Club box. Something like where the bar meets the stadium. :D

About the game, I agree with what guys are saying… this was again the Broncos team we had in the first 6 games. And like Ash, I hope we can keep the “momentum”. If we can get the win in Kansas, playing in December (when arrowhead becomes one of the toughest places to play), and a team that no matter the lost this week, last week beat the steelers and put Ben on a cart, then I think we’ll be on the right way to playoffs.

For now, this run blocking scheme seems to work great. We could have used it sooner, but better late than never. The players seem to be getting comfortable with the system, and between each other. I guess there were plenty of weaknesses exposed in these last 4 weeks, and we know them now, and more important, how to fix them.

I really didn’t think this next game at Kansas meant so much, but now…

    Go Broncooos!

  17. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

David Bruton is to be congratulated for his excellent Special Teams play. One of the most overlooked aspects of the game, he’s doing a great job for us.

The team looked inspired, motivated, and focused. It was a bright spot among the horrible Thanksgiving vacation I had, I needed that win as much as the team did.

    Go orange and blue!

  18. rayjr26 says:

Broncsfan83…. no way bro! orton may not be our QB for ever but he is here to stay for at least a bit. i think you dont give enough credit to the guy! he is tough as nails, playin hurt is no easy feat, he is playin smart, and he is even getting the ball down the field. he only has what… 3 picks this year? what does the guy have to do the get some respect? come on!! i said it a couple weeks ago i think, but im going to say it again… McD is, IMO, not a big name QB kind of guy. he looks for a QB who fits a specific mold and who posesses a certain skill set…. kyle orton seems to be fitting just fine to me. if its not broke dont fix it!
now, onto my post…. i have a question coop…. i keep hearing that the broncos changed from the zone blocking scheme after the bye. i heard they changed back for the turkey day game. is there any truth to that? and can you give a quick overview of the difference between the 2 schemes? thanks, and good blog.
    Go Broncos
    “DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS”

  19. baylinorcrush says:

So Coop, if I understand you right, and way over simplifying your comments, which by the way I am extremely thankful for, we are good at many things, but a master of none. It makes sense when you think of McD’s philosophy of not having an identity, attacking and defending against teams differently every week according to their strengths and weaknesses. It seems to me the blame on the poor stretch does lie mainly on the players not respecting their assignments, whether on D or on O. Meaning a deviation of respect towards McD and his coaching staff, so I really do blame mostly the players. The good thing is, they now know, have the proof, that the system works when they correctly execute it.

The big thing is, them having messed around out of their assignments for that stretch, will that cost us the division? If it does, it will be a hard one to swallow, watching SD take it again. I, for one, would be always looking back at that SD game at home, what a sorry game that was… The only way that loss will fade out for me is if we can somehow find a way to still win the division, the easiest way would be SD losing to Dallas, Cinci and Tennessee and us losing only one of our remaining games and take it outright, without concerns over tie breakers which could go down to the 3rd or 4th, considering we might have identical division and conference records, that could be way too hard a heart breaker for my old self.

Looking on the bright side, everything we had to have this Sunday as far as help in the wild card race, we got. Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Houston and the Dolphins all lost, so we are now in control of our destiny in that race and if we win our remaining games, regardless of what any other team does, we are guaranteed at worse the #5 seed.

  20. champ24thebeast says:

DUDES, Kyle Orton is gonna be our QB at LEAST for the next two years…and we will have faith. He’s not a flashy guy, like Urlacher said…BUT HE WINS! He get’s the job done, and he is soooo stinkin tough. Also, he’s not a baby like cutler, he gives every other person credit before he talks about himself…that is what Elway allways did. People, Kyle is our QB. He will be for a while…and lemme tell u what…we can get to the SB and win with him…I know we can…so let’s give him our SUPPORT!
    IN COM PLETE!!!!!

  21. brian_schneider says:

Are we still discussing the Kyle Orton situation? Why are we even talkin’ about this…is there nothing Orton can do to stop everyone from wanting someone else under center? Sure WE had a 4 game skid, that wasn’t entirely on Orton. You’re talkin’ about drafting a QB? The way I see it is we used our picks this past draft to help put somethings into motion for the future, Moreno, Ayers, Smith, Bruton, and maybe Brandstater (depends of what he develops into). This next draft look to probably take a DT or NT, in my opinion. Getting a franshise QB doesn’t just magically solve your probelms *cough* Bears *cough* Cutler. When you buy a puzzle it doesn’t come already put together, you have to find each piece and put it in it’s right spot. We’re putting the pieces together, and with Orton we’ve seen he obviously gives us the best chance to win right now. Isn’t that what we want to win?

    Go Broncos!!!!

  22. eternalorangeandblue says:

those who say orton cant be our franchise QB are wrong, he definitely can he has the tools hes a good leader and his arm is getting stronger. the only thing I would really like to see him execute better are bootlegs and rollouts and getting rid of the ball a little quicker he has a tendency to step “into” sacks. The real measuring stick for him now is going to be can he lead us to the playoffs and if so, can he win there – cos I definitely see this team getting there annually. If he cant win in the playoffs expect his career in denver to be over in a few years.

  23. jonah22 says:

Off the subject, but I was at the thanksgiving and the sunday game when we got killed by the Chargers and the crowd just erupted when Orton came out after Simms horrible performance. I love Orton. I think he could be our franchise qb. Anyways on Thanksgiving a display of Simms came on and he said “I want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving” and the entire stadium went up in boos lol.

  24. champ24thebeast says:

    hahahaha poor simms…

  25. 07elway says:

Man, there are some short fuses around here. Orton continues to bend over backwards to help make this team a success and people still want to get rid of him. He went from a no-name back up in Chicago to a starting QB who’s got such heart & fire for the game he’s willing to go into the SD game with a freakin’ ankle injury cuz our #2 can’t get the job done. Cutler would have NEVER done that. Of course, he thinks he’s invincible and thinks he wouldn’t get an injury to begin with.

Orton is a fighter; he plays with heart; he not only says he loves the game but he shows by how he plays; he’s driven to help make this team a threat and in our first 6 games it worked really well; he CAN throw deep passes and he’s more accurate & consistent at it than “Mr. I want to be a Bear”. Orton will be our QB for at least another year or two, he’s come too far to play one season as our starter and then get pushed in front of a bus cuz his name is Kyle Orton. Orton is our guy for now and he’s done a great job, I’m proud of him. And unlike Cutler, he’s got the class and attitude I want from our QB on AND off the field. Be thankful we have him back and that his ankle injury wasn’t too serious cuz we need him to finish this season strong. We need to make a strong statement saying the Broncos are here for good, we’re proud to have Orton lead our offense, so deal with it. Just like our upcoming game against KC… Orton is not someone who should be underestimated.

Coop – I have been to plenty of KC-Denver games here, one too many. My dad, mom & I would get free tickets through a friend and he’d get us field passes too so we would get to walk around the field (woo hoo) before the game. Like I care about Arrowhead stadium. Had a chance of a lifetime and almost got to meet my guy Elway, I was literally standing about 5-6 ft away from him but they wouldn’t let me meet him. Yeah yeah, he was on the field practicing but I was right there! Dude!! Still mad about that. I’m done going to games there cuz the fans are just flat crazy. I was just a kid and they’d be chewing me out, calling me all sorts of names, of course I wasn’t paying attention to any of it but my dad heard it all and oh boy, he almost knocked ‘em all out. lol What’s even more funny is I’d be dressed head to toe in Bronco stuff, my mom made up this rule that you should support the team in the city you live in so she actually wore a Chiefs coat someone gave her… but not anymore… I turned her into a Bronco fan, wasn’t that hard but then my dad didn’t like either team (was a Packer fan) so he’d go a KC-Denver game all decked out in Green Bay stuff, including his Favre jersey! So funny. :D

I have some good memories but if I’m gonna go to a KC-Denver game its gonna be in my hometown. The boys have got to hold the Chiefs to FGs like they did to the Giants if they want to stay in competition with SD. I think they go into that stadium with the mentality that “ok, we’ve lost here so many times, what’s the point?” And its like they think they’re playing against the stadium, lol, Arrowhead has nothing to do with it but the KC fans – watch out for ‘em! They make that place so loud you literally cannot hear yourself think, I’m sure you know all about that having played there a time or two. KC is a good team when they want to be, but whether they decide to be that team or not on Sunday we have to stop them from getting on a roll. Once they do, they are tough to stop.

    Keep the faith Bronco Country…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  26. baylinorcrush says:

I think the biggest advantage we have in playing at KC this year verses other years is McD knows what Cassell can and cannot do better than anyone in the NFL, he mentored him for a full year, so defensively I believe that should be enough to give us an advantage in controlling their offense, so as long as we don’t turn it over, and over, and over, I think we win this one even if we don’t score a lot of points. And yeah, this is my least favorite stadium to play in in our division by far, specially in December.

  27. brian_schneider says:

Arrowhead has to be one of the most intimidating stadiums. It is loud..I mean loud and the whole sea of red. Definately makes you feel like you’re in hostile territory. All the red and hardly any orange and blue. We just need to stay focused and play like we’re capable of.

    Go Broncos!!!!

Just read Jason La Canfora’s article on the playoff picture and he states that the Broncos are playoff pretenders. What a load of crap!

Other than the Indy game, winning out isn’t that much of a stretch. I really hope that Washington game doesn’t come back to haunt us.

Let’s stick it to all the analysts and march into the post-season!!! Looks like we have some moxie back again…keep it rolling against the Chiefs!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!

killerkod…. ya i just read that article as well. and as usual no love! course i think that may be a good thing. under the radar baby! lol
    Go Broncos
    “DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS”

  30. Greatness007 says:

Killrod and rayjr He just mad Dawkins didn’t tell him what the players only meeting was about. The inside scoop if you will. No biggie! We know where we’re going so just sit back for the ride.

    Good post Coop.

  31. stevecan2 says:

Don’t worry many of us have often wandered why La Canfora is still posting articles on the internet let alone on paper. I see at least three people who post here on a regular basis that would better server the NFL community than that goof ball.

  32. brian_schneider says:

He provides the NFL comic relief. LOL!

  33. Samoanbronco says:

@ 07Elway – Shesh i’ll have to get in earlier to avoid the avalanche of comments… lol really good comments though :)

Coop’s love the post. The game was a breath of fresh air of self belief which was sorely lacking in the team during the 4 game slide. The players only meeting had been done before to no effect. This time round it was worked very well.

These guys need to know that during the bad games and the good ones we continue to support them in a constructive manor and not be so quick to call for heads to roll. During the game I was on the NLF game blog and I have never seen so many idiots in my life!!! A majority of them non-Bronco fans who dished out the dirt, especially the Bolt fans. But what really suprised me was the number of Bandwagon-riders (self professed Bronco fans) that would cut the boys down without flinching. I was so angry I almost threw down on my laptop lol. But you are so right on how quick they were to moonwalk and triple backflip on to the bandwagon…

I prefer Websters definition, but yours can be a foot note lol.

The Chiefs game cannot be labelled as an easy beat. But as Baylinocrush said, we have the inside on Cassel who again was god-aweful against SD. No game is a given, and boys need to work hard to make it look easy…

Recoup, Regroup & Refocus… LETS LADS!!!!

  34. BoltRaiderHater says:

KC is very dangerous in “the head”. They always take every opportunity to kick us, whether were up, down or in between. Hope that the team meeting keeps us on track the rest of the way.
If we can start 6-0 we can finish 6-0. How great would that be. I havent been this hopeful for the last decade (or the ‘lost decade’ as mom calls it).

    GO BRONCOS !!!

  35. Marshallman-15 says:

Or how Baylin remembers it LOL

  36. broncomvp24 says:

LEAVE ORTON ALONE… he is doing just fine, we just need McD to continue drawing up plays like he did against the G men. Orton is a FOOTBALL player, and a TOUGH one at that. He wins games and he makes the players around him feel good. he is not focused on a single reciever and he is not selfish. He is a very smart football player and i would be glad to have him for years to come. he wins games and he doesn’t take that many sacks. Colt McCoy would be nice to mold over the next few years, a backup for at least two would be fine.

  37. shasta77 says:

Let’s not forget that against Baltimore we were only down by 6, on the road, in the 3rd quarter. We were only down by 4 entering the fourth against Pitt. We were up by 3 entering the fourth at Washington (even with our starting QB done at halftime). What we saw on Thanksgiving was the first complete game by the team since the Monday night beat-down at San Diego. The results against the Giants weren’t surprising, play the whole game on all sides of the ball–we’ve got the talent and schemes to match-up with anyone. When we don’t, you get the previous 4 games. Let’s hope for 4 quarters of focused team effort the rest of the way. We get it, I like our chances.

  38. Broncfalls says:

WOW! I didn’t mean to get the “Kyle Orton” thing going again LOL! it is funny though. I posted Brian Urlacher’s statement only to show case a different angle.

I like Kyle. Actually a lot! I live just outside of Chicago so I knew a ton! about him. Those that have watched him a lot can actually see him getting better and better with every snap.

Anyways, didn’t want to suggest anything other than a great player in Urlacher saying Kyle was a winner that’s all…..

Lastly, I 100% believe this team can play, we’ve seen that! What I hope to see on Sunday from here on out is a team that is “HUNGRY”!

They know the system now, they know each other…at this point you have to believe it’s the “Want To”, the “Hunger” that will now win games.

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  39. royalbroncofan1 says:

Coop – great game! It was awesome to see our Team come out with spirit & fire! They were hitting harder than I’ve seen in since the Cowboys & Patriots game…maybe harder. Dawkins was all over the field and he was vocal throughout. You could see our Team was out to restore some dignity. Kyle Orton looked great out there and seemed to be making his reads with efficiency. He is now feeling alot more comfortable running this offense. (Give him time and he’ll pick you apart). It was a total Team effort and they can now focus on closing out the season STRONG! Orton was previously complimented by his former teammates in Chicago right after the trade. He QB’d them his rookie year and helped the Bears make the playoffs. He has playoff experience and has been on a Team that went to the SB. He’s a Team player and a class act. He now has a great O-line to protect him and great receivers. Something our previous QB gave up on, and is now suffering the consequences.
Last week at the Chargers game, as fans we gave Orton a standing ovation in the 2nd qtr. He responded by quickly taking the Team down the field and putting us in scoring position. Granted our Team didn’t show up on D that day and we struggled, but Orton knows that us as fans are behind him 110%! He sure carried it over vs. the G-men!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  40. baylinorcrush says:

Broncfalls, it wasn’t you getting the Orton thing going, it was Broncsfan83 with his 1:33 am post.

Marhallman-15, what’s up with posting my post? It’s plagiarism, LOL.

  41. tnalen66 says:

WITH KYLE WE WIN. He will only get better as he learns the offense. He wanted to play agaist Wash. The coacheds should of and we would of won and we would be ties w/SD. We need SD to lose agaist Cincy and Tenn (AFC teams) AND WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AGAIST KCX2 AND OAKLAND.

  42. royalbroncofan1 says:

For a minute I thought baylinor and Marshallman-15 were one in the same…lol.

  43. tnalen66 says:

HAHAHA. Kyle is 7-2 for us in games he started & finished. Why would any one who watched him question him. We will not be talking about him in the HOF 15 years from now. He will not rewrite the record books. I think he could be our version of Jim Plunket. A two time SB winner that had no mobility, no rocket arm , just a leader who some how just won.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

He looked more like Kenny Stabler with the beard, LOL.

  45. footballMANIAC says:

I see your point, Coop, in that going to a 4 WR set allows the D-line to worry about nothing but pass rush, but don’t you think that with our outstanding O-line and all the options that 4 WRs provide the trade off is worth it? Sure, the D-line may get there quicker, but that makes no difference if the ball is already on its way to an open reciever! I’ve always hated draw plays anyway, because if the opponent reads the play it will fail, and even if they don’t read the play it fails a third of the time, and when a draw play fails, you lose yardage instead of going for no gain. I’m sure you’re much more well-informed than I am, but that’s my opinion. Can you tell me any major advantages a draw play gives besides keeping the defense honest?

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Great blog Coop,I can read the stuff you write all day long, because you have a lot of knowledge of the game, and I for one appreciate you taking time to let all of us Bronco fans in on your great insight. When it comes from you we all know it’s true cause(this man knows the game).GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton is still young, and can still learn the system better.I say we see how he does down the stretch then decide on our QB status. He might not be the best QB in the NFL but winning is all that matters, and HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN.That is what McD wants in his system,so I don’t see him going anywhere soon.I know I have been one of the biggest ‘Orton’ bashers out here, but if I can give him a chance,we all can…GO TEAM

  48. BeastFromEast92 says:

Run and stop the run that’s how you win football games. We proved that against the Giants. If our Defense can play with intensity like that the rest of the year, our offense can play plenty good enough to win every game we play.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. baylinorcrush says:

foorbalMANIAC, I know you asked Coop, but as he is not always able to answer, I thought I’d throw in this definition of a draw play, which explains its purpose and advantages.

The draw play appears to be a passing play, but is actually a running play; in this way, it can be considered the opposite of the play action pass. The idea behind a draw play is to attack aggressive, pass-rushing defenses by “drawing” them upfield, leaving more open space to run the ball. Draw plays are often run out of the shotgun formation, but can also be run when the quarterback is under center. These types of draw plays are sometimes referred to as delayed handoffs.

  50. baylinorcrush says:

BFE92, about Orton, mighty big of you!!! LOL.
