Probably shouldn’t name a post like I did since it’s a team sport but could help myself. Twenty-one catches is amazing … no … AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although bittersweet and not enough for the win, simply AMAZING!! Like a man amongst boys. At times Orton would just look right at him and go to him. That can get dangerous, but yesterday it worked.
So, really not much to say other than we’re a pretty DANG good team if we didn’t make mistakes. I have to remark on what Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “You know where the bar is.” We have the ability to play to it but mistakes, penalties and efficiencies killed us. Short yardage? Missed assignments. Period. No one ever crosses your face that your suppose to block…PERIOD.
Stats: We won T.O.P. and total net yards, net yards rushed, carries, and others. Not the red zone and not when and where it counted. That’s the difference between a Good Team and a GREAT Team. Look at how many teams are 7-6. Crazy year to still have two 13-0 Teams. I’d have never thought I’d see it.
Defense, WOW, WOW, WOW, you guys are unbelievable. D.J. Williams looked like they cloned him, he was all over the field. They held the Colts to what 38 yards rushing and 66 yards passing in the entire second half. DB’s were the difference too with great coverage…even though pretty beat up right now.
Oh, and who cares about the coin flip … really, if we’d have held them it wouldn’t even be a comment in the papers … typical of the press.
Now, did any of you see the Cardinals earlier in the year? I thought they were pathetic and now they’ve won 4-of-5 and mainly on the road. December is always an interesting month in the NFL. Injuries start to play a big part or avoiding injuries. (not sure how you do that, other than not play a guy). I’d never do that … maybe rest them a little but, that’s it.
RAIDER WEEK!!

Great job Brandon Marshall. You are indeed “The Beast”. Give this guy the contract, he needs to be a Bronco for the long term.
Coop. Nice post as usual. Congrats to Marshall. Wish the team could have rallied to a win. We do know where the bar is set. It’s not too high for us but mistakes are killing us every week. We had a bunch of opportunities to score where we came up empty. 3 points off 3 turnovers doesn’t cut it. This loss stings because we saw that we could win but didn’t get it done.
Let’s kill the raiders!!!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!
nnep to work on short yard play and getting eddie bac to last year
It was a great game!
Yes I wanted to see us pull off the upset just like everyone else did, but the boys played hard. Manning was on FIRE at the beginning of the game. Not too many offenses in history come out like that (Montana, Young, Elway…etc.) I think the coin toss was a mistake considering we were playing an undefeated team with a future hall of fame QB and a tough RB in Addai. They were able to come out fired up and make two drives count whereas taking the first posession could have kept at least one of the two opening touchdowns off the board. Difference in the game???
Losing McBath hurts. He has been improving tremendously over the last several games and really stepped it up. Every team in contention for the play-offs will be watching the Denver D’s game film on how to stop Manning.
Let’s come out pissed off this week and #$%-up the Raiders!!!!
Go BRONCOS!!!
BRANDON “THE BEAST” MARSHALL!!!!! sick game to bad we lost. big game against the raiders. BEAT THE RAIDERS!!! GO BRONCOS!! ITS CRUNCH TIME FOR A PLAYOFF RUN
Coop, nice post as normall.
The mistakes and innefficiencies are the difference between the elite teams and us right now. But thats what you get when you change so much personel and schemes. I know a lot of fans are upset with our record now, but I think we are actually ahead of the learning curve. How many teams completely change their def philosophy and make such a drastic improvement? Very few. I for one am happy with this team, just dont mistake that for content (I wont be content until our guys are lifting another lombardi trophy).
Right now I think we will make the playoffs even if we lose another game along the way, just as long as its not the to the %*&@ing Raiders (I still feel like cursing everytime I think of last years loss to them).
You get a mulligan for the “Cardinal comment.” In all seriousness, it’s time to slap around the Raiders. GO BRONCOS!!!
Hey coop big night for BMarsh, and Orton as well . the colts shut our run down i dont understand why hillis isnt getting carries… the team did better between the 20s then the colts, and still we all know the outcome. Coach mcD has done a very good job so far , hey coach #22 get the guy in the games……
Agree totally raidrhaidr: 3 points off 3 turnovers is totally unacceptable. Mental mistakes are killing us and trying to find one yard with two chances seems to be harder than final jeopardy. Our small athletic line is not built for a power running attack especially with Moreno back there. We are good with the zone blocking on 1st and second downs but when we need one yard on third or 4th we run right into a wall. The message boards light up every week to give Peyton Hillis his chance and I think this week he will actually get it. It didn’t help that Spencer Larson was hurt on the first play of the game but injuries are always part of the equation.
Coach Mcdaniels stated in his news conference that it wouldn’t matter if hall of fame running back Franco Harris was back there with the penetration that the colts got. I totally agree with this assesment but all the pressure from the Colts was coming from the outside to get to the ball carrier before he had a chance to turn it on.
So what do we do? just a suggestion but on short yardage like that why don’t we try the power I formation with Hillis and Moreno in the backfield (Moreno deep as a decoy with Hillis up close to the line of scrimmage)stack the line on the side your running at with the most beef you have mabey even line Ben Hamilton up at tight end. Was it just me or were the Broncos in a three reciever set on all those short yardage situations? Hand the ball to Hillis, let the defensive end over run the play and let your 240 pound F/B- HB run behind about 900 lbs of Olineman for one stinkin yard.
It probablly wouldn’t have worked for Franco Harris but I do seem to remember Rocky Blier their unsung fullback picking up first downs like that all the time.
Just a thought!
Coach
Well said, coach. In my opinion, it really don’t care to hear all the valid excuses that McD used in his press conference, this inaptitude at short yardage is not something that just happened Sunday, it has happened all season long, so how they go at correcting it is not exactly important to me, what’s important is that McD does something to adapt to the brick wall that we have run into all year, and he chooses not to. That’s where my beef comes from. Shheeeeshh.
There are a myriad of plays to give you short yardage, coach McD, other than diving into the brick wall with Moreno, I only remember doing something different twice this season, the sneak with Orton Sunday and the short pass in the OT game against the Pats, and they both gave us the first down, so it’s not like you don’t know how to get it done.
“Everyday a star is born (clap for him)”…..altho we have known for sometime that he is a star lol….way to go BMarsh…congrats on the record…wish I was the fan that got the TD football that teid the record. Pray you are a life time bronco
Thats true Baylin,
when we do anything other than pound the rock with Moreno on 4th down, we always get it. In games when he has the lane it is tough to convert with a moreno run on fourth not to talk about a game where he is getting stuffed. The sneak was good, a play action would be good, a screen, running with hillis instead because that man ran into a wall too on that one carry in IND and still fell forward with power for 3 more yards…we can convert 4th, we have the ability…just need to think outside the box.
Cheers Coop!
I thought we had learned the lesson about NOT to use Moreno in 3rd down and short running between tackles. Why being so stubborn to let Hillis do what he does better? Is McD afraid that if Hillis fulfills the 3rd RB place he might have to say goodbye to Jordan? It’d be nice to have a statistic about failed 3rd down and short conversions using always that SAME play with the same RB!!
To the hell with moral defeats… we could have won this one and WE (not the Colts) just let it go. It’s tuesday, but I’m still pissed off.
Go Broncooos!
Geat job B-marsh
If the mistakes would stop we could win a game. Still a new coach’s system, and we are leading the wild card race. We can win at least 2 of the next 3 if not all three. At the beginning of the season i would have taken it in a heart beat.
Go Broncos
To whitebronco#1 and all those who have questionned the McD/Hillis thing, I highly recommend you reading Dave Krieger’s article in the premium part of the Denver Post: The curious case of Peyton Hillis. Done in a very polite way, but in the end we all know there is something terribly wrong on the handling of Hillis by McD. His treatment of Hillis is the most uncool thing he has done all season. The proof is in the reading. Check it out.
baylinor: Just read the article and something ain’t exactly right with this situation. I remember how excited Coach was about him during training camp. In fact remember hearing those same comments posted on Krieger’s article. Unfortunately, our Team suffers as a result of whatever it is, that lies beneath.
The 4th down debacle was pure missed assignments and not putting a HAT on a HAT as we use to say and we had a receiver standing there watching while his guy blitzed off the short/slot corner?
The defense tries to get under the offensive lineman and push the line off scrimmage back into the backfield. The O-line has to have their heads and shoulders as low or lower than the D-line and stalemate or move the line of scrimmage to create a hole. It’s on all fours and scramble blocking or pinning the defender to the turf so he can’t get under you or between you and into the backfield crabbing to disrupt the ball carrier.
The Colts DB’s standing up cut the corners got into the backfield. Our receivers stood there and watched. They have to get a hat on a hat too!!
Hillis should see plenty of action this week and like a old assistant coach Earl Morrell use to say, “always be prepared, so when your time comes to play you’re ready to play, because you may only get, “one chance.”
O.K. side note. Did any of you see the 30-30 ESPN show after the Heisman award on the U?
Curious what you thought, good and bad. I’m going on Gil Whitley’s radio show today to talk about it. I was at a local fundraiser for the University of Miami Hall of Fame and the film was on and I saw most of it but missed quite a bit mingling with folks.
COOP
Thanks for the feedback Coop. My son plays Center position for his Team and mentioned DB’s made penetration. Did not tape game or view any replays. Coachemup also mentioned this as well.
Hillis situation still somewhat intriguing but hard not to second guess Coach at times. Looks like Hillis may get his chance this upcoming weekend with Buck’s injury.
In answer to your question, did not see 30-30 ESPN show.
COOP!
7 penalties for 65 yards?! Come on D Williams roughing the passer, Really? and D Reid unsportsman like WTF? This hurt the most, add in the four 3&outs and the two 4th and 1′s they didn’t convert which put Indi on their own 40 yard line each time, and the porous Defense the first two Indi drives and you have a TEAM loss, albeit not without positives.
COOP like you said The Broncos did control the TIME OF POSSESSION and They did run the ball enough times to win (but a 3 yard average isn’t going to cut it).
Which brings me to my next subject Knowshon Moreno. COOP I think Moreno is going to be a great back in The NFL some day but right now we have a very young rookie as the number one back, and personally I think we are seeing the difference between him and Buckhalter the wiley vet as being day and night. I’m of the opinion that Coach McDaniels started Moreno just a little to soon.
Hopefully we will get what we’ve all been asking for the whole year and put the ball in Peyton Hillis’ hands.
I’m excited for this next game! I will be in The SOUTH STANDS screaming my head off and would love nothing more than a Broncos win for my Birthday.
Al Davis said today, charlie fry will start this week and I saw the raiders signed jp losman today. This could be allot of fun.
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! !
I saw that documentary on the U. Very interesting.
I didn’t know that Howard Schnellenberger almost didn’t take the job in Miami, and that his wife had to talk him into it. I heard from someone else, though, that they told him that they were going to drop down in class after they hired him. But, after some conversation, they decided to give it one more go in Division I, and the rest is history.
I also heard that Florida State, Pitt, and even Syracuse were thinking about dropping football altogether in the 70′s as well. Imagine how different College Football would be the last 30-35 years if those teams did stop playing. I imagine a few of those schools would have tried again, like Pitt and Syracuse, but I doubt that Miami would have.
Mondono, good points as always….the Colts didn’t win that game, we really gave it away…period. My humble opinion. We’re so close it hurts sometimes.
royalbroncofan1, the center position is the toughest position to play on goal line and short yardage downs. He has to snap the ball an get low all at once and either pin the defensive lineman to the ground so they don’t make any penetration or quickly get under them to hold ground or get some movement so the dive or QB sneak are successful.
Tell him hello for me and good luck. The lines not a glorious position, but one with a tremendous amount of self satisfaction when you get the job done. You’ll know when he’s walking off the field with a little swagger and a smile on his face.
)
Change of subject: Sorry, but I still have to laugh and pat myself on the back on the Cutler trade. 22 picks!! He had absolutely NO IDEA what he got himself into leaving this offensive line. It’s tough to throw off your back foot, on the run or off your back. I usually don’t say I told anybody so, but I have to this time. I took the heat for calling him a baby the Roast downtown last year….because that’s what you do at a Roast and if the shoe fits……….you have to wear it. But Coach McDaniel’s looks pretty smart to me these days.
On the ESPN 30-30, The “U” film. I hope you guys don’t get tired of me asking but I’m really curious on your take. Why? Because you all know football and have a great sense for what you see. It aires Dec 27 at 1pm again. I’m DVR-ing it so I can watch all 2 hours, non-stop. I was at a fund raiser for the U Hall of Fame when it was played and saw most.
Howard Schnellenberger was the catalyst to the U and in my view it was a documentary to a GREAT man (and Beverly) his wife for going there and setting a goal and winning a National Championship. He’s one of my mentors. Tough, demanding, disciplined, visionary and grounded head coach.
The U was a different place in the late 70′s and early 80′s under Howard. A lot of antics went on after him, but the U won.
5 National Championships.
1983: 11-1
1987: 12-0
1989: 11-1
1991: 12-0
2001: 12-0
