Tebow Time!!!

December 19th, 2010 - 9:22pm by mark_cooper

CONGRATS on your first start Tim. I loved playing in Oakland. It was a great place to compete. Like I mentioned last week, kind of a cross between a Halloween party on steroids and a biker convention.

Tebow time!!! The blogosphere here has been waiting for you to start, so I am not going to keep them waiting. I’m going to leave this one WIDE-OPEN for the fans comments!!!

You have finally received what you have been asking for since the day Tim Tebow was drafted. Let’s hear it!!!

Yea I have heard more than a few people criticize Tebow for yesterdays game, but the fact of the matter is our OC wasn’t calling plays with high completion rates. Tebow threw the ball 20+ yards downfield it seemed on at least 12-13 of passes. People will criticize, but unlike Vince Young, Tebow is fueled by dis-believers and yesterday was the first step in proving all his skeptics wrong. What I saw was a leader and someone who was fighting for the TEAM and not himself. Denver finally has a leader back at the QB position!

  2. LKW 7 23 49 80 says:

The Kreiger article is a far more realistic evaluation of Tebow’s performance yesterday than many of the jubilant on-line fans have been capable of. Tebow does have a great enthusiasm and spirit, and strong-if-not-swift running ability, but he’s certainly not a great passer yet.

We can only hope that the Broncos brass keeps Orton, and also allows for an honest quarterback competition next training camp. Or, if failing to retain Kyle, brings in a very capable, talented back-up, because Tebow will get hurt, especially if he keeps running. (In fact, already happened in the preseason.)

Ask the Eagles if they regret having Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb both on their roster this year.

In my opinion, it would be one of the greatest roster mistakes in recent Broncos history – which would obviously be quite a feat – if we do not retain Kyle Orton for at least insurance, and perhaps for the best chance at a winning season, for 2011. (Unless people are also hoping for a poor season next year so we can get a high 2012 draft pick?) Tim Tebow seems to have the fire and at least some of the skills to possibly be a good-to-great quarterback in the league at some point; but that doesn’t mean that all of the franchise’s eggs have to be put exclusively in one basket, right now, with no recourse if he falters or is injured. A few years of waiting and learning, with even less field time than Tebow has had, didn’t prevent Aaron Rodgers from becoming a top five quarterback when his time came. Tebow could turn out to live up to these dreams and lofty expectations; but there’s no need for the Denver Broncos organization to make an all-or-nothing gamble on that right now. There really isn’t.

  3. CarnageBronc says:

I thought I was the only one that watched the game and was not impressed by Tebow. Barely competed 50% of his passes. The touchdown throw, PURE LUCK. The run, interesting…he is an ok runner, without the ability to make people miss, or outrun them. He is bigger than most DBs so they may have problems tackling him. Overall, I did not see anything from him that makes me think that he can be a franchise qb. They dumbed down to offense to a ridiculous level, for someone who should have been with the team the ENTIRE year, and should know the regular playbook. Either he cannot run the offense, or there is some huge problem in his ability. He had a full training camp, PLUS the camps for rookies. He said he is workinghard every practice, blah blah blah..so why did he run a vanilla creame offense on Sunday. Coordinators call what the players can run. PERIOD. They even admitted to asking TT what plays he was comfortable running. I think this team is going to be in a terrible quandry due to the McDaniels Mess. Also for all those who think that Elway will miraculously turn things around int he front office…don’t be overly sure…great players often have a hard time coaching/running teams. Ask Michael Jordan

  4. Crazyhorserider says:

I am so annoyed that my prediction of 60 – 0 to the Raiders did not bring about a Broncos win.

Admittedly my prediction was based on Orton starting and the defence giving up so once Tim was in I knew we had a far better chance, but he needs far better support.

Coop, coaches are supposed to coach, so why was our play calling so bad? Are our coaches that bad or that scared? I do not know which.

Whilst at this stage it may make sense in playing for the best draft position I abhor the thought of any Broncos team playing to lose.

  5. Orange_Crusher says:

    Well, well , well……..

I would like to congratulate TT on a great performance. With the right coaches and system… Tebow will be our ticket to the top…!!!

The one thing I noticed yesterday was after a couple big plays and scrambles, Tebow was on the phone with someone upstairs… I couldn’t help but wonder WHO it was??? I can’t read lips but I’m sure I saw a lot of “yes sir’s” being said…..

After that, TT quit trying to run when the plays broke down.

I think maybe he was instructed NOT to sacrafice himself in the second half of the game, amplified by the McCoy calling lots of run plays… I can dig it..!

I was glad to know that he wasn’t going to go out there and sacrafice himsefl for this lost season and meaningless game.

I don’t know who was on the phone, but I thought it was a great decision to pull the reins in on the Young Bucking Bronco…..

I think he could have won that game for us if they would have let him! But someone upstairs (Elway?) made the right decision….

I LOVE ME SOME DENVER TEBRONCOS!!!!!!!!

  6. socalbigbroncofan says:

Once again I think he played great. And for those who think not are crazy i havent been this excited about a game in a while. Draft nothing but. D next year with a great dc and were set. Oh yeah and don’t forget CHUCKY.

  7. strandoftds says:

Tebow did great. You can blame the loss on a poor old aged D. And conservative play calling by Mike McCoy. So you can blame the O on the coaches and no one else. Tim Tebow played his heart out. So whoever doesn`t appriciate Tim Tebow for what he did. You just plain don`t like him. So if your that miserable you can only look in the mirror and blame yourself. Or go root for some other team. Stop your damn complain. TEBOW IS THE MAN!!!

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Tebow not sacrificing himself, the OC calling a super conservative game, maybe it’s just a coincidence or it might look a lot like the upper management is thinking like I do, why on earth would we win these last three games when we could get the highest draft pick in like forever.

  9. socalbigbroncofan says:

I think the best thing about tebow for me was I’ve been a fan and talked about him since he was drafted. And to see my 9 yr old son watch the whole game with me in excitement. Was the best. Look forward to watching tebow play many more and bring back the excitement to this great organization.

  10. socalbigbroncofan says:

Best part was when the chokeland fans chanted ‘tebow sucks’ then he ran 40 yards on them for a td. It got pretty quite. And didn’t hear that chant for the rest of the game. Lol. Love it cause TEBOW TIME HAS BEGUN.

  11. DenverOranges says:

@ Strandoftds You tell um man. Tebow is the way not Orton Are D lost that game not our Qb Just remember that tebow haters

  12. DenverOranges says:

Socal, My son also watched the whole game for the first time. young or old everyone loves to watch a young quarterback get his first start

  13. strandoftds says:

Thanks DenverOranges. Ya, we got what we wanted. What more do they want. Geeesh. Bay, I agree. I want the best draft pick we can get. Listening to some of these guys and them saying that Tim Tebow didn`t look that good just angers me. They just don`t plain like Tim I guess. Tim Tebow is going to be fun to watch. He`s gonna be great. You unbelievers just wait and see.

  14. rayjr26 says:

@ THE ANIT-TEBOW FOLKS….i dont know what to tell you. he completed 50 % of his passes (check ortons comp. average) in his FIRST game. he avoided pressure several times (as opposed to the orton way… SACK), he made things happen on busted plays (rather than throw the ball away) and he even had one throw where he DID throw it away to avoid forcing the ball someplace. you say lucky catch by loyd in the endzone for his touchdown, but how many times have we seen Orton just chuck it in the direction of loyd and hope he catches it? LOTS!! so cut the guy some slack. it was his first start! if we had ANY KIND OF DEFENSE we would have won that game!
    GO TEBOW!! GO BRONCOS!!
OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

  15. strandoftds says:

    Well said Rayjr26.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

About some not warming up to Tebow, it could be so many things:

Maybe they just didn’t like the way he played.

Maybe they don’t like how the young man wears his heart on his sleeve.

Maybe they don’t like the way he openly talks of his Christian’s beliefs.

Maybe they don’t like that he twitters bible psalms before a game.

Maybe they don’t like him because he regularly beat their favorite college team.

Maybe they don’t like him because he sells more jerseys than other teams combined.

Maybe they don’t like him because he has rockn’roll star status in the NFL before really having done anything yet.

Maybe they don’t like him because he is bigger than them.

Maybe they don’t like him because he is better looking than them.

Or maybe they don’t like him for a thousand other reasons, and guess what, at this point I honestly don’t care what it is, I am just glad we have him on our team with a shot at finding out what he can really do for us.

That, my friends, is what being a Bronco fan should be all about, anything else is just unfair at this point.

  17. rayjr26 says:

all i know is i cant wait for next sunday! its been a while since i could say that. :)

  18. baylinorcrush says:

    Only two to go….

  19. Crazyhorserider says:

Great seeing all the excitement and buzz around the place now that Tebow is in play. At least we have one thing to thank McDaniels for.

Peculiar how he never played him to save his job!!!

  20. caramelloo says:

To whoever it was that said about Tebow needs to stop running. Oh I’m sorry he’s trying to make something happen and extend the play. Oh I’m sorry he’s not gonna just take a sack or try to take a sack like Orton. Then again I’m not sorry that you Anti-Tebow fans don’t want to give him a chance.

We’ve given Orton a fair chance so the same should go for Tebow. it’s not his fault like many have said that the coaches water downed the play calling like the field in Oakland.

I’m not even looking at his stats! I’m looking at the fact that he played with heart and emotion and the team fed off of that. Read the quote from Lloyd and that says it all!!
Lloyd said…. “That loss had nothing to do with Tim Tebow throwing or anything with the ball. I had confidence in him going into the game that he was going to be able to lead us to victory, and that was a coach’s decision to do that (running) with the ball. Even when it was tough out there, he kept us in the game.”

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Gaffney was a lot more brunt about it:

“If we’re going to put him out there, we might as well turn him loose. He can throw. We just can’t handcuff him. Let him throw. Turn him loose and let him play.”

  22. strandoftds says:

Bay, good insite. I`m just glad Tim Tebow plays for our Bronco`s. I`m on the same page with you. And the many others who Like Tim and the excitement that he brings.

  23. strandoftds says:

I all of a sudden like Gaffney.

  24. caramelloo says:

Amen to that Bay! They forget that the man played in much worse conditions @ Fla and did quite well in them. I was super AMPED to see him on that field.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

One thing for sure the fans will go nuts Sunday regardless of the outcome. Maybe Sunday should be declared Tebow day by Denver’s mayor, haha.

  26. S.D.Bronco30 says:

I try to ignore the Tebow haters; there will always be haters no matter what. Bay had some very great and right on points about why some may hate him on the last blog. Some just want to see others fail no matter what. There are many great QB’s some are hall of famers that had worse first starts, and many other games for that matter. Also Tebow is not the first QB to be doubted, have questions about, be called unconventional, etc etc blah blah…and turn out great! Running QB’s don’t do well?????? Vick?????? Early Elway??? I think that is what they refer to as a dual threat; if they don’t beat you with their arm they beat you with their legs!!??? Have you haters heard of this; keep defensive coordinators up at night??? Ok I’m done, all those in support of Tebow and the future hopes of our team keep it up Bronco brothers and sisters, all those haters out there….who cares.

  27. monodono says:

    Bay
“One thing for sure the fans will go nuts Sunday regardless of the outcome. Maybe Sunday should be declared Tebow day by Denver’s mayor, haha.”

The Best thing we could do as Fan’s to show Ownership were happy McDaniels is gone and Tebow is playing is fill that Stadium and make some noise. Right COOP?!

  28. baylinorcrush says:

Nothing to worry about there, the fans will not want to miss Tebow’s first start in Denver regardless of our record, not a doubt in my mind.

  29. monodono says:

    COOP!

I remember the day The Denver Broncos announced They acquired John Elway. I was playing flag football and everybody was amped and excited and He hadn’t even put His jersey on yet. There were some haters back then too but The Buzz was in the air.

I felt that again Sunday for the first time since! I’m impressed and can’t wait to see what He can do in the future.

For all those complaining about the play calling, give it up. I thought They called a fair game for Tebow’s first start, the only thing I would’ve changed was I would’ve called a few more play action passes on 2nd and 3rd down’s. This game was a TEAM loss, our Line’s got beat up in the trenches and it trickles down from there. I want Them to beat any Divisional TEAM especially the raiders, but it just doesn’t matter. I just want everybody to get through the season healthy and I’m excited to see some more Tebow.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  30. monodono says:

    Agreed.

  31. Borrachazo C.R says:

hahaha, nice number of reasons why ppl might hate on Tebow Baylin!

  32. Borrachazo C.R says:

hahahaha there’s some bitter persons in this blogs nowadays… Tebow, there’s something about that kid! He doesn’t look like the greatest QB of all time but he has that spark and inspiration that not many players bring to the table and to the fans! For all of your haters, TT will be successful so start getting used to it!!! Nobody was saying anything about Jamarcus Russel’s throws or something else but he failed! Now they are looking for excuses to say TT won’t be a good QB… You do not need to throw it beautifully to be a great QB, just make smart decisions and “Just find a way to get the ball to the reciever no matter how it looks”….. nuff said!

  33. BroncofaninATL says:

LOL@ the guy that said the TD pass was “luck.” When you throw to a precise point in the end zone, there is no luck involved. You count on your WR to get to the ball and catch it. If you had ever played the position of QB or even a pitcher in baseball, you would realize this. Insanity.

  34. monodono says:

    COOP!

    Luck is like fishin.
If you go out at the right time of day, and to the right place, at the right time, with the right gear and the right people and don’t catch fish. That’s bad luck.

If you go out at the right time of day, and to the right place, at the right time, with the right gear and the right people and catch fish. luck has nothing to do with it. Same goes for poker.

The Only luck out there is bad luck the rest is skill.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  35. nyuk nyuk says:

    Turn him loose!! TE-BOW TE-BOW TE-BOW!!!

  36. mark_cooper says:

You guys/gals hit it out of the PARK. O.K., a quarterbacks not made overnight. I was in Elway’s first game and memories are short around here. It was a rough start against a great Steeler defense and automatically he wasn’t a good quarterback…give me a break. Even his first yeas here were rough with the writers. In the first few years they wanted to get rid of him…go back and read some if you can find them. I was here and rememeber well. A lot of you on here know exactly what I’m talking about. You were here.

Anyone making a call on Tebow this early like some of the guys in the press do it just to sell newspapers, SO PLEASE don’t read that stuff. They jump on and off the bandwagon so many times I’m surprised they don’t have casts on their ankles.

A start is just that, “A START”. Like you mentioned, it was with what I and you saw as a dumbed down offensive scheme…but justifiably so as you want to run what he’s most comfortable with and build on that each week and into the off-season. Elway was no different.

Good coaches plan a scheme around what the QB and team does best. By the way, we had some success in the running game but, let’s digress for a second. Zone blocking is not the answer. You have to have guys that execute it. You have to block the first level first, before you can move to the second level and we didn’t get that done on Sunday. Guys have to keep their heads up movig to the second level so guys don’t run through the gaps and get into the back field. Our guys have to get (their) guys on the ground more…yes, cut block a guy so he’s worried about his knees and ankles…that’s called advantage. It slows a guy down from being in a sprinters stance the whole game and driving you into the backfield. There’s a place and time for it and it tires the big D-linemand down a bunch…lived it.

The NFL is a tough place to play. Don’t know if you all saw it or not or if it’s still running but ESPN and ESPN2 had a show I ran across last week called the “Year of the Quarterback”, with all the greats. The hair on the back of my neck stood up listenng to those guys talk about the QB position becasue it was just like being back in the huddle. I stopped everything I was doing and sat down and watched the rest of the show and then found it again to watch the beginning so I didn’t miss any of it. Great perspective. A lot like conversations had over the years from college to the Pro’s with QB’s I played with….try to find it, you’ll enjoy it.

I don’t know about you but these are exciting times around here. Waiting to see more TT….(your phrase here on the blog) and speculating who the next HC, OC & DC will be!!

I’m pumped for TT’s next start to see what they add. Here’s something I’d like to see. The OLD scramble play we use to do with Elway. Moves the pocket. Us lineman get free shots at the defensive lineman trying to find the QB. Slice and dice on the run. Gets TT a few new angles on the defense and a chance to run it if he needs to. Fun stuff. Advantage offense.

Look for more blitzing and defensive front alignment and movement to try to confuse him some….but pumped up to see how he does.

    Remember…….a quarterbacks not made overnight!! :o )

    Coopster

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Coop, thanks for your valuable “lived it” input, invaluable to someone like me who didn’t, cut blocks are legal and they were our trademark for a long time, so what if D linemen have to worry about their knees! They’re on the other side, LOL.

  38. Crazyhorserider says:

This is why your blogs are unique Coopster, you come back and give us the professional view which as Bay says is invaluable to those who have never been good enough to be there in the trenches. In particular I find it fascinating how you used plays to turn the tables on the defence so that the offensive line could attack them rather just waiting to repel the attacks. It strikes me it is far better to be proactive like that. No wonder you would be happy to coach any offensive line. We would be lucky to have you.

We seem to have been on a roller coaster ride over the last few years. It started with Coach Shanahan drafting Jay Cutler, who I saw as the closest thing to Elway, and the subsequent disappointment of bringing in McDaniels and his attempt to change the whole ethos of the Broncos. We lost Cutler because of this and it is no coincidence that he went to a team that concentrates on strong defence and a running game.

To me the foundation of any Championship team is in the trenches, both defensively and offensively. Without this you have no strong base to support the other parts of the team.

As you say Tim Tebow will need to build his game and at the same time the management will need to build the roster that can make the Broncos great again.

  39. 07elway says:

Darn right, a QB isn’t made overnight… that’s why we need to continue to get Tebow more involved NOW, which is going according to plan so far. He may only play our last 2-3 last games this season but at least he’ll have those games instead of getting his start at the beginning of next season.

Bronco Country has new reasons to believe in a bright future so long as we keep this kid and get a coach that will do right by this team first of all and Tebow a close second. So excited for Sunday’s game. Gonna be a VERY Merry Christmas.

And on that note, hope everyone has a Merry Christmas (particularly an Orange & Blue one). ;)

    GO TEBOW!!!!!!

  40. mark_cooper says:

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all and like we’ve discussed above..in business…in football…in life..it’s about a competitive advantage. Especially on the O-line…you have to use all the tools you have at your disposal, somewhat like a chess game and keep the dogs (D-line)offguard with the advantage of the snap count, play selection, etc….goes on and on. You use every rule to your advatage and even push the limit until they call a penalty on you.

Clean football but at the outer limits to keep a clear advantage. It’s a gladiators world out there in the trenches and believe me the D-lineman would take our heads off if they could get away with it. Think about it, they get sacks they make a lot more money…pretty simple.

You all enjoy the hoilday here and let’s catch up next week after we get anothe look at TT. AND like 07Elways says. Have a Merry Blue and Orange Christmas!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS from the Coopster and his family to you and YOURS!!
