Valuable experience for TT and with what is being rumored it could get interesting. See here about Elway rumored to have agreed to a VP position.
Like Kubiak said, anything John does, he’ll bring success, especially with this team.
NEEDS:
Pass defense
Pass rush
O-Line strategy, feet & hands, pulling, etc
Pretty evident that we can’t let a QB sit back there and pick us apart and have a chance, yet we did with Tebow. Gotta love the guy and the intensity he brings to the field and the team….love it.
The other rumor is Harbaugh as head coach with Elway going to the Orange Bowl as an honorary captain and his ties to Stanford. I guess we’ll see, right?
Draft, collective bargaining, Head coach, OC, DC and the remainder of coaches needed, we’ll have a busy off-season to chat and debate and agree and disagree, stay tuned, The heat is on.
Like you I was glad to see what we have in a future QB and I like what I saw. With a off-season to prepare, I’m pretty pumped to get some new talent on Defense to help and see where it takes us. I’ll also repeat what I’ve saod all year…”PATIENCE”…we have a lot of work to do and it likely won;t happen in one off-season.

Later fellas
Thanks for the kudos on my uncanny prediction in the draft last year guys! Funny thing is, I learnt everything I know from reading what you guys wrote every day then I just split the difference down the middle.
I guessed Thomas ‘cos he wasn’t Dez and I even picked the number (22) because of the NE connection. I guessed Tebow as it was the kind of daft thing McD was always going to do – turns out it may be the smartest thing he ever does!
I even picked Walton as my number 3 (as we clearly needed a centre), but he came in as our 4th pick!
I’ll look forward to reading your comments this off-season then stealing your ideas…..
Definitely was some nice predicting…
well since some have promoted Nick Fairley, since im a believer of Bowers (if he declares) here my vid of him:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9ye6OoWA4g
Kid is relentless…him on oneside, doom on the other and good luck QBs. But like it has been said I will be happy with either Bowers, Fairley or even CB Peterson. Point is…we can’t lose. I also like Paea as a second pick and Phil Taylor from Baylor. Taylor is a straight Mountain. But not like Cody…cody was just out of shape. I am more inclined to want Peterson because there still seems to be alot of DL talent in second round and we have two (maybe 3 picks if we trade orton for a second)…
Man, I just went back and watched last weeks game again against the Chargers and both of Tebow’s Hail Mary passes at the end of the game both went for 60 yards!! Tell me Tebow doesn’t have a strong arm, haha!! The announcers right before that said that they were pretty sure that he couldn’t throw a 60 yard ball and 8 seconds later he proved them wrong!
Well here is my thinking on both Fairley and Bowers!
I would love to have either one, thing is though, it looks like we will get less penalties with Bowers! I know having a nasty defensive tackle is great to have, but whenever he puts cheap shots on QB’s he starts getting penalties, big fines, and even suspensions!!
I am posting a couple of videos on Fairley and some of his uncalled for hits on some QB’s! Just remember, the NFL is ALL about protecting QB’s in the league now MORE THAN EVER!! Look at how many penalties Suh had this year and fines…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wB9MUBDaP8&feature=fvst
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nhl66fjqlI
Make sure you watch these videos!! That is my only concern of Fairley but then again, my other thought is how much I would just LOVE seeing hits like these on cry me a Rivers and give him a REAL reason to cry!!!
I like Fairley Bowers and Peterson. But i have to wait and see how Fairley performs in the BCS game. Dareus was often mentioned w/ Fairley until his average performance in their bowl game and his name left the the conversation. IDK!
A lot of players came out with as much hype as Fairley or Bowers (ala Tyson Jackson, Sedrick Ellis, etc) mave underperformed lately so its quite a challenge to make the final decision. As much as I want our own “Suh” this year, but there might never be another player of Suh’s freakish caliber.
Im a big Peterson fan, and w/ his size he will come in and make an immediate impact like Rodgers Cromartie and Namndi..IMO..
What are the chances of these scenarios:
1.Get either Fairley or Peterson w/ 1st pick, trade a package (that could include next year’s or 2012′s 1st) the get the other.
2.Get Fairley trade to get Amakamura.
3.If not, Brandon Harris or Ras Dowling will b around later.
We need to get young on defense!
Doom,Paea/Fairley,Bannan,Ayers/Bowers on the line will be scary!!
Elway Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard on ESPN this morning that Miami is talking (or going to talk) to Harbough and Cowher (?sp) about HC job. They haven’t let their HC go yet and this comes out. I wonder what he thinks his job security is for next year?
Listening to Mike & Mike, Chris Mortenson reporting that we are indeed involved in the Harbaugh sweepstakes. 49ers are the front runners.
So, Cassel and Cutler are in the playoffs for the first time. Orton is on the trading block. McD is looking for work. (his name has been mentioned in Oakland). Sometimes the universe is fair!
Mularky? Consider this. Matt Ryan has won 33 games in his first 3 years, tying Dan Marino.
When you take into consideration what that franchise was faced with at that time, WOW! That is amazing. Universal balance. Lol
1 30 mst press conference will be held
Here we go, Elway’s day has been made official:
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — In an offseason that promises to bring plenty of change around Dove Valley, one thing is now certain — John Elway will help lead the Broncos in 2011 and beyond.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion was named Executive Vice President of Football Operations on Wednesday.
The team also appointed Joe Ellis team president.
Elway will direct the Broncos’ football operations, working closely with general manager Brian Xanders and the team’s head coach while supervising the club’s personnel department.
The 16-year Broncos signal caller will hold final authority over the team’s football operations — reporting directly to Bowlen and Ellis — and will lead the search for a new head coach.
Well, nothing we didn’t already know, but it’s now official, Elway has full control over everybody who matters and most importantly over personnel decisions. So now he can hopefully agressively pursue the search for our new HC starting lining up a string of interviews right now.
Congratulations John.
My only letdown is this:
Ellis, the team’s newly named president, has been the chief operating officer for the club for the past three years and is a 16-year club employee. He has ultimate responsibility for the organization as team president, and his responsibilities with the club’s business operations will include speaking on behalf of Bowlen on all matters involving the franchise.
I was so hoping Elway would become the man talking for Bowlen, but I guess Ellis had to have some type of function to justify his title….
Lucky Woody reports Elway’s thoughts after the announcement:
John Elway hits the ground running at 7:30 this morning.
It could be as tough as the last big time he hit the ground running — and ended up as a human helicopter in one of the most incredible moments in NFL history — the pivotal play of the Broncos’ first Super Bowl victory.
“That’s a good comparison,” Elway said after he paused to laugh Tuesday night. “I hope this is just as successful but doesn’t hurt as much.”
Elway said: “This is all I’ve really wanted to do since I retired as a player. Football has been my life. I’ve waited for years, but the timing is perfect. The stars are aligned.
I won’t let the Broncos down.
“Along with everyone else, I knew that the Broncos fans were beginning to question the franchise and losing their loyalty. This is all about tradition and integrity, reaching out to the community, and getting back to football the Broncos way. I want to be a part of making that happen. Our goal is to be back in the Super Bowl as quickly as possible.
“And as you wrote, I want to stand up on the podium after we win the championship again and say, ‘This one’s for Pat.’ He has been one of the NFL’s very best owners and been great to me for 27 years, and his legacy in this game is so important.”
Elway said: “Yes, this is as excited as I’ve been since the last Super Bowl.” (And so am I John, your greatest fan)
Elway said Bowlen “gave me a chance to accomplish everything as a player, and now as an executive. I will tell him every day what’s going on with the Broncos.”
What’s going on is that the Broncos already have decided that Brian Xanders will have the job, not just the title, of general manager, “and he will be responsible for most of the personnel decisions, the scouting, the salary cap, the draft,” Elway said. “He and I have met for several hours over the past couple of weeks, and I’m impressed by his knowledge, his work ethic, his background, his dedication to winning and his love for the Broncos.”
The next critical item of Broncos business is hiring a new coach. Elway, Xanders, Bowlen and Ellis will interview the candidates, “and we’ll come to a consensus,” Elway said. “We’ll get it done in the next week or two. Brian has done the research over the past 15 years and found that the difference between successful offensive and defensive hires is about 2 percent, so we’re not committed one way or the other. We will hire someone who has been a coach in the league or someone who has long been associated with pro football as a coordinator or a strong coach — someone who will feel as strongly about the Broncos as we do.”
Elway returned Monday from south Florida, where he was an honorary captain for his alma mater, Stanford, at the Orange Bowl. Although it had been reported he would be trying to sway Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh to become the Broncos coach, Elway said they never talked because of the madness surrounding the game. (I included this for the ones here who keep claiming Elway met with Harbaugh at the orange bowl, as I’ve said all along it’s nothing but a media fabrication)
“Jim has to make a decision about his future as a college or NFL coach — but he played in the league for 15 years and coached with the Raiders — and he could go either way,” Elway said.
The Broncos will interview interim coach Eric Studesville and Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey (a former head coach at Buffalo) and will ask permission to interview Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell (who had been an interim coach in Buffalo) and Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. The list will grow in the next two days. (Fantastic! the only one not on my list is Rivera but they will interview both Fewell and specially Williams both of whom I have been anxiously hoping for for a month now. Williams is my first choice John, take a good listen at his interview, LOL)
“Because of the playoffs, we’ve got to act fast, and I think we’ll get this done within the next two weeks,” Elway said. (Klis was right all along as normal, it will be after the 15th)
Finally, about Tebow:
“I think Tim has met all the expectations everyone had for him as a person, a hard worker, a great athlete, a great leader, a learner,” Elway said. “I was impressed with what he did in the last three games, considering how few reps (repetitions) and plays in games before that, but the questions now are can he translate that grit, the winning attitude, that athletic ability into maturing into a great quarterback on the pro level.”
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS ELWAY, glad to have you back!!!
Bay for once we agree on something Williams is my first choice then Gruden Harbaugh and Fewell
Thanks for this insight bay. I appreciate it. I will say good luck Elway and lead on!!! Now we can get things done. I like what Elway said about Tebow. With Elway helping in the grooming of Tebow, he can’t help but become one of the greats. He has already displayed the grit, winning attitude and the athletic ability. Tebow will fight to win each and every game.
I said with Williams we should keep Wink around to learn from him and still coach the D because the players respect him but it will be Williams scheme
What is the concensus of the email to the fans by Goodell? Think he is blowing smoke or for real with his statements on the talks?
You better not agree with me since I’m crazy, they are gonna lock you up marshisboss, haha.
You’re welcome weatherman, this day is way too big to pass up, I had to print out everything Elway said about it on this site, leaving out all the media’s b.s. and thanks to Woody first and foremost.
I believe Goodell, I have personally been saying no way both sides will walk out on all that money, they may take it to the deadline to make the other side break, but in the end they’ll both sign on the dotted line and we’ll have a season.
Elway said:
“We will hire someone who has been a coach in the league or someone who has long been associated with pro football as a coordinator or a strong coach.”
Doesn’t that eliminate Harbaugh? He has never ever been coaching in this league in any sort of capacity, just saying.
Wrong, Harbaugh was an assistant coach with the Oakland Raiders in 2002–2003. In 2002 he was an offensive assistant coach, and in 2003 he was the quarterbacks coach. But that doesn’t qualify him as “someone who has long been associated with pro football as a coordinator or a strong coach”, or the strong coach part is just for Harbaugh? LOL.
I have a gut feeling that we all are going to be really suprised in a week or so when this announcement is finally made.
In 2002 Harbaugh was an assistant coach to OC Marc Trestman and they went 11-5 and on to the superbowl to lose to Tampa. And in 2003, he went 4-12 with the same OC finishing in a tie for the worse record in the league (QB coach to Gannon).
Not me if it’s Williams.
I am anxious to hear more about Tebow. With all this talk about getting back to playing Bronco football I have this weird feeling in my gut that it does not include him. That is of course unless some day in the near future he can become a typical pocket passer.
I am throwing this out there to get a consensus. If I, like I sometimes am with these crazy notions by my lonesome then I know I can drop it.
This is from the Fort Lauderdale sentinel:
The Dolphins have put Tony Sparano on ice until the team’s top brass determines whether the franchise can land one of the hottest football coaches in the country. According to sources, the Dolphins have put a decision on the coaching staff in a holding pattern while the team’s executives conduct exploratory talks with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. While no offer has been made, the Dolphins may have to move quickly, given the stiff competition for Harbaugh’s services. The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos also have head coach openings and are in play. Harbaugh’s camp is reportedly demanding a salary north of $6 million a season.
Wow, North of 6 million!!! That might put the nail in the coffin on that one right there since we are paying 3.5 to Shanny and about 3 for McD already. 12 plus million dollar coach? What happened to the million dolar man? LOL.
6+ mill… damn sure looks like someone wants to stay in college.
I really believe Tebow will be given minimum next year to prove his worth because Elway knows better than anyone that if he would of been judged for good after his first three games he wouldn’t of made it, at least as a Bronco. BTW he was benched for his fourth game in 1983 since he was so bad in the first three….
Normally I would look at Al Davis to make such a move but I am pretty confident listening to someone with ties close to Oakland upper brass and the obvious media reports that he will indeed promote his o/c to head coach and bring in McDaniels as o/c not head coach. It is looking more and more likely that McDaniels will be staying in the AFC West. So there looks to be plenty more of the love to hate the hoodie close to home.
bay, the million dollar man passed on many years ago. He hooked up with the million dollar woman and became the six million dollar man. I go back to something that was brought out the other day on one of the other blogs, Studs has done a good job these last four games with what he had to work with. He also had the other coaches doing their jobs, which is something that none of them were able to do the entire season until he took over the helm, AND with a QB that had not even practiced with the offense until the week that he was named as the starter.
Monodono is the Studs man, and I thought he was alone, guess not! LOL.
I look at Tebow’s development this way. He should be QB1 next year. While he is being developed, institute a respectable run game. Build solid a defense (obviously a fan and logical approach). Not even the greatest ever could win it all without those two working for him. We have seen that Tebow has it in him to be the difference maker, but in no way should the entire fate of the team be placed on his shoulders (and legs).
I see no scenario where Tebow won’t be QB#1 next year.
Studesville, I believe has earned the right to stay within the Broncos organization but not in the HC capacity. He knows it, he is an optimist but not delusional. If he even gets to be a part of the new coaching regime in Denver next year, that alone will be a testament in and of itself. That is up to the next Head Coach. The only realistic thing I could see is that after the interview next week, Elway, Ellis and Xanders, if they like what they hear can do Studesville the favor of telling the new HC to consider him to be a part of the new staff. Much more than that is very unlikely. He is still young and shows potential. He, like others that are going to move on from our current McDaniels tree..(scary that every head coach, no matter how long gets a coaching tree named after them) have a future in the NFL, just probably not with the Denver Broncos.
I fully agree stevecan2. The one thing that Tebow did at FL was take it upon himself, if they were behind, to get the game won, no matter how he had to do it, he gave it his best with his arm and legs. He has no quit in him and his enthusiasm for the game is quite apparant. BUT as you say, if you don’t have the elements around him, or any qb for that matter, they can not do it all at this level. This is what is going to be hard for him to learn. He will figure out a way to pump up those around him to help get it done. I have that much faith in him.
By the way bay, I am not a 100 % studs man, I was simpply bringing sometihng out that I read the other day on another discusion board.
Yeah it was monodono and I having a lenghty discussion about Studs, so been there done that sorry if I don’t partake this time.
I can not foresee any reason myself, other than that if another option presents itself in someway, we might pursue it.
Well that is about the most discussion I am willing to have myself. The more pessimistic side of me says, that the interview is to comply with the Rooney rule.
Orton on the trading block. Not a big surprise there. He is a game managing QB and with very little to manage going forward we need game changers not managers.
I’m glad someone else said it, but in all fairness they are looking to interview Fewell too.
We can interview Fewell right away since the Giants aren`t in the playoffs. So since the Saints are in how do we interview and when For Gregg Williams? Do we have to wait until the Saints season is over or can he interview now?
honostly I hope Studs stays as RB`s coach. But we need to go back to the zone blocking big time.
I am pumped right now. I knew today was the day of announcements and so on but i always hold back until it is in black and white.(announcements not speculation).
On a personal level, I have been asked to coach High School baseball. I just finished a criminal justice degree and can officially be associated with a program. I will be coaching conditioning and outfield… I hope these kids are ready for some college level conditioning.
We simply have to get authorization from the Saints, like we got it from the Falcons for Mularkey, difference is the Falcons have the week off, the Saints don’t so they may not authorize it until their season is over, or in the week leading to the SB if it’s a two week break this year if they make it that far.
Joe Ellis and John Elway INKED THE DEAL last night. Today is the announcement. So as of last night John Elway is officially VP Excec.
Elway said something as to within a week or two for the new coach. If the interview with Williams doesn’t happen soon…
I am not a fan of this Rooney rule. As it leads to such situations we possibly face in Denver. Studesville and many other minority coaches have earn more respect than to be treated as a token.
So thats the rub. I hope the Saints let us interview Williams. We really can`t afford to wait, unless we hire Fewell which would be cool. IMO
Congrats to you stevecan2. That is great news. Good luck in your new coaching position and also congrats on your degree. I know of the criminal justice degree being a difficult one to get. That is a lot of haard work. i ahve one myself and was in tyhe law enforcement field over 25 years before the dr. made me retire and placed me on disability. I miss it a lot!
Let me rephrase. Any person has earned more respect than to be treated like a token.
Law Enforcement has definitely been where my heart is at for a career. To even fathom being able to coach and moving to the next level in my career field is awesome. And then to hear Elway is in such a capacity in Denver is icing on the cake. 2011 just got off to the greatest start imaginable. Great things are on the horizon!
