Well looked like a we had a few more Packers fans than Steelers fans on the blog (smart folks) and I ate some crow after the game. My wife was a Packer Backer and yea, heard it all the way home as my two boys giggled at me. They picked the Steelers too, so Mom was right….this time.
)
Caramelloo, agree with your post in the prior blog and you all know the drill, the Broncos management has to keep things on an even keel and keep everyones stock as high as possible to keep the highest perceived value as possible…….don’t blame them if you want to get the highest pick possible for a trade regardless of who it is.
The CBA, again, same drill..blah, blah, blah and then they get together and “I THINK” they will hammer something out. The games at the top of it’s public awareness and popularity right now and the worse thing for all parties is to have a lockout or go into a scab-season, etc. So, I like you hope it’s all lip-service. There’s plenty of dollars to go around and I agree with a number of issues on both sides.
You have to have a rookie salary cap with the run-a-way dollars the owners are paying or UNPROVEN talent…seriously. Sorry fellas but having a good college career is meaningless in the NFL and the owners shouldn’t have to pay for it. I also agree that the prior players should have better benefits since they helped make the game what it is today. It’s a violent sport and some will say then don’t play….yea right.
Guys that say that, never had a chance to play, kinda like the talking heads in the media that never played at any level. Anyway, doesn’t make sense to get into all the items until we know what the major items will end up being that can or can’t be agreed on becuae it’s really just a waste of time. Kind of like speculating on a QB’s abilities until they have played. :O)
What do you all think and CONGRATS to all you Packer pickers……you won!!
Coop

Thanks Coop. Well the only known is the upcoming draft and everything else is up in the air. On that note, the Broncos first 3 picks should address the d-line, lb and the safety position and with the last three picks the Broncos need to address the d-line, lb and the safety position.
I’ll take 2 at each position.
6 men needed to start right away on a defense that ranked 32 out of 32 defenses. The only requirement is you need to be an able and willing tackler.
Go Broncos!!!
Something (TACKLING) that was left off of last years defensive requiements.
Go Broncos!!!
Paker picker here, 31-28, haha.
Thanks for the insight coop. I, for one, appreciate it a lot. As I asked bay in the previous post, does anyone know what all of the issues are in the CBA or is it something that we just have to pick up in reading different articles as they “discuss” things? On the issues you have in your post, I can see the players point in some of it, but, on the other hand, I see the other side too. One question that came to me in all of the interviews that took place Sunday prior to the game was..If the owners are wanting the players to give up this 7 mil over so many years, and the players want to see the books, then why don’t the owners show the books? What is the big deal? Are they hiding something that they do not want everyone to know about or see?
On the QB issue, everyone knows about Orton’s stock. His stats speak for themselves, so I really don’t think all of the talking being done by the head office is helping the issue here one bit, other than being very confusing and beginning to show inabilities to make decisions. That might be coming down the pike.
Packer, oops.
seweatherman, I answered you in the previous blog.
Well said Coop. I agree with you on all fronts. Especially on the rookie salary cap. Why should the owners hand out big money to a unproven-wet-behind the ears-college kid. Stupid if you ask me.
Sorry bay, I didn’t look at it since I saw a new post, I didn’t go there. Will do that now.
As for the draft, get the CBA done ASAP. Get a free agent or two and draft all defense accept for a catching TE. Stay at #2 overall and draft Fairley if he`s there or Bowers.
bay, thanks for spelling it out for this “dummy”.
1. Personally, I thinik there needs to be salary caps all through the league. No one is worth some of the money some of these guys are getting paid, in any professional sport. Let’s face it, the fans in the stands are the ones putting forth good money too see these games played. And for the argument that most of the money comes from the netwolrks, etc. Well, the fans are paying that too. The networks get their money from advertising, and the mney that the companies pay for the advertising comes from the fans, so the fans are getting double dipped.
2. I am not sure on the insurance issue. To me, it might depend on the injury. Some of the injuries are lifelong injuries that they will continually need professional care throughout the remainder of their lives. So, they have an issue there that needs to be discussed. Is 7 years long enough in that scenario?
3. Season length..Most of the time the teams play their starters the last pre-season game anyway, so what would the difference here make? Like you , I agree. Go with 17 and 2 and get on with it and let’s play ball!
Bay. I`d like to see your take on my answering your last blog on the other blog. I want your opinion.
ahaha, Packer Backer. lol I was one of them on Sunday night. Took out my dad’s old #4 Packer jersey, even wore a GB t-shirt he had (that will never happen again). Was a great game for Rodgers & all of Green Bay.
I had Pittsburgh too. My mom’s a huge fan. Loves her some Mike Tomlin and her boy Troy!
Turnovers. It’s a game-breaker. (Even so, the Pack had a lotta drops). Was a great game and it gives me ammo thru the off season against these Bears fans!
So, my two cents on the CBA- what’s taking so long?
1. All this revenue sharing, how about a little fan kickback? From both parties!
2. 16 or 18? 18 means more revenue. Duh!
3. Rookie Cap. Haha, Jamarcus Russell!
4. Hasn’t Obama already passed some law about health insurance. Hey, if I gotta pay for it, so do you pal! Besides, with your increased revenue, you can afford it. I’m sure.
Woo-saaaa!!!
GO BRONCOS, D in 11!!!!!!!!!
The players have 5 years of insurance now, they probably are asking for ten, then they can then settle on 7 or 8, simple negotiations tactics, meeting somewhere in the middle. Whether that’s enough or not can be argued to no end and if that’s the route they want to take in the negotiations, bottom line is we are very far from having a CBA. Greed is the real driving force of this impasse, make no mistakes about it, it might be disguised with the health insurance isssue and what not, but we all know better, and shame on both sides for not having found a middle ground already, specially in these incredibly tough economic times, both parties are making a mockery of us fans whether they mean to or not.
No compassion whatsoever from this fan for either side, just utter discust. Little men they are right now, washing their dirty laundry all over us, these negotiations should be more civil than they are, it’s like they are performing a community service that they are all richly compensated for anyway.
All that being said the owners will prevail this time around, they learned their lesson over the current CBA the hard way and are willing to sit it out if they feel they must, so the players have no choice but to give a little here and there until it satisfies the owners. The players are not business players, they are sadly mistaking if they think they can stand up to the big boys in that game. It’s the owners game to win this time is my opinion. The current economy dictates that.
The owners are holding all the cards in the CBA I think.
Thanks Coop I think Bay, TRB, Beast, and all of my other fellow Bronco Bros are rubbing off on me. Forcing me to dig up info and investigate for the latest news. I hope and pray that we have football some way some how next year. Esp. since I might be leaving New Orleans for Portland Oregon. I’d be a short plane ride from Denver and would be able to attend quite a few home games.
I agree that there should be some kind of meeting point between the owners and players. Man I surely miss Paul Tagliabue and Gene Upshaw. Not that they would be able to do much with all of the greed that’s in the NFL these days.
Melo, Your always on top of things in Bronco news. I enjoy reading your posts. As far as possibly moving to Oregon good luck. It rains just about every day there. So bring an umbrella. LOL
Another thing…..
Many of these athletes cry about money yet many are in the club on a regular making it rain. I understand that every athlete in all sports are putting their bodies on the line, but so am I at my 9-5 job M-F. Too many athletes waste money and have nothing to show for it.
The Athletes and Owners lost loyalty along time ago, and expect us fans to be more loyal than they are to us. I love some football especially Broncos football, but who wants 18 games especially if your team is out of the playoff running. Most of the guys would just be going through the motions.
There are two parts to Oregon, the coast West of the mountains where it always rains, and the part East of the mountains, like Bend, where it’s pretty darn dry, not unlike Colorado, for real, been there, heck my ex wife moved to Bend, haha, good skiing too.
Thanks strand! If it brings me closer to the Mile High city then I can put up with it until the good weather comes. Hahaha! Plus New Orleans weather is like a roller coaster. One day hot, next day cold, next day real cold, next day hot. Two days in shorts and then two bundled up with heavy coats. Yeah that’s winter in Nawlins, hahaha.
Yeah if we move we would be in the metro Portland area. Man Bay, you’re a traveler huh?
A unidentified current NFL player said in the ESPN magazine that about 70% of the players only play for a paycheck nowdays, specially on all the losing team and that’s really what differentiates the great teams from the also run ones. I have been concerned about that on our own team for quite some time now and let’s see how Elway and Fox can change that mentality, seems to me like it would take quite a bit of players cleansing to achieve that and since there might be no FA we might end up being stuck with many rotten apples, just saying. So far with no CBA on the horizon meaning no FA I don’t like the look of things for us as I have pointed many times, oh well…
Portland=Rain, haha.
Been around the block a time ot two.
And I hate to tell you but you won’t be much closer to Denver in Portland than N-O, 1236 miles to Denver from Portland and 1279 miles from N-O. Didn’t mean to dash your hopes.
Hahaha @ “Been around the block a time or two”
Yeah you can kind of tell what guys are playing only for a check these days. Back in the day the guys played for the love and the money followed. Now they play for the money and love it as long as they are winning.
Back in high school I played on an 0-10, and 1-9 team, but each person on that team loved being on that field. The love in sports went away when the last of somewhat good music left back in 1998-99.
Well at least from Portland to Denver will only be one flight. Hahahaha
That’s a young fan talking, I thought good music left us in the mid seventies, and my dad would say when rockn’ roll took over jazz, haha.
Anyway wherever you end up enjoy, my saying has always been:
It’s not where you are, it’s where you’re at!
this is the only place where i love to check info on our boys…. thaks!!! Lots of info and different perspectives on issues.
I think there should be a provision in the new CBA that a contract can be voided (including guaranteed money) for severe off-field misconduct- i.e. being arrested, Albert Haynesworth-like lack of work ethic, etc. A rookie pay scale and former player benefits are definitely musts.
Bay don’t get me wrong I know that the REAL GREAT music was back in the 70′s, and the 80′s music provided some of us with some never forget moments. Then the 90′s provided us with artist wanting to be like 70′s artist bc of how much they sampled 70′s music. 2000′s well…… Hahahahahahahaha @ that music!
Welcome abord TTD!
MANIAC I like that idea. Too bad a good bit of the players contracts would be voided bc some just love drama!
Haha true true
We need to get rid of any of our players who had no heart in the game last year. Anyone who just wanted a paycheck and the game comes second will be gone soon enough. I want players who play hard and have passion for the game. FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME! Then the money follows.
Thats a great idea Maniac. Players must always perform to the fullist. They make a bone head mistake hit the pocket book. They under perform knowingly, Void the contract and the owner can recoop all guaranteed monie`s. Nobody rides for free.
Exactly. I read an article in ESPN Magazine today about those “paycheck players” who are just in it for the money. It was written by an anonymous NFL player and he said they make up about 70% of the NFL.
Daniel Snyder, the owner of the Redskins got what he deserves by trading for Albert Haynesworth and signing him too all that guaranteed money. Now all the owners can learn from his idiotic mistake. Snyder brought this on himself and the coaches and players. Owners need to be more careful than ever. Stop spending foolishly. Just look at the economy with the rest of the world. I rest my case.
I think Albert Haynesworth should be banned to play in the NFL for life. He has no love for Football. Furthermore I think that he should be forced to give back 90% of his gauranteed money back to Daniel Snider. Haynesworth only work for 10% of it. He`s no good blood-sucking thief.
Just read an interesting stat! Teams with a pick 6 in the superbowl are 11-0
Not surprising, a pick 6 can basically amount to a 14 point swing…
MANIAC, there is an echo in here, haha.
This brings back harrowing memories, glad it’s happening to someone else now:
Rams are releasing FB Mike Karney. New offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels plans to use a lot of a no-fullback, spread offense.
LMAO!!!
There is no new CBA on the horizon and the idiot is already starting to clean house once again anyway, and people were saying he wouldn’t have any personel decision power with the Rams, good luck with that! Hahahahaha, just love the fact that it’s now happening to another team than ours….
Just for fun:
NFL now offering seatless fans future SuperBowl tix, plus airfare, hotel, & will be fed popcorn at game by Cameron Diaz.
great game this weekend. i also picked the packers. my brother is a packers fan and i like rodgers.
also heres a repost of a joke my cousin told me while watching superbowl. Why do they call Jay Cutler 50 cents. Because you can only get 2 quarters out of him. lol
One issue that the CBA needs to address is the pathetic retirement pay the players of the 40s, 50s and 60s get. Couple hundred bucks a month. It’s a slap in the face of guys who gave their all.
I agree oldsouth. Those were the players of the day in that era of football. <ashmouth football at its best!
Great game this weekend, but once again the commercials were sub par and the halftime performance was awful!!! For the first time I didnt feel all of the superbowl excitement I usually do…maybe its just me, but I blame fox haha!
The issue for the older retired player is not really what’s holding up things as the league is well aware that they need to do a lot more in that area and they will.
Legwold explaining why McCoy was retained and will be the play caller:
With the threat of an NFL lockout on the horizon, the Broncos kept their offensive coaching staff largely intact for two reasons.
The first reason: If there is an extended work stoppage and teams can’t have minicamps, organized offseason conditioning workouts and even training camp, the Broncos didn’t want to open the 2011 season with a new defense — and a new offense. The Broncos were hoping to have some continuity. With all of their problems on defense, that side of the ball will get a bigger makeover.
“If it goes late, if it goes into August and they say you’ve got three weeks to go, at least offensively we’re in better shape,” John Elway, the Broncos’ executive vice president of football operations, said at the Super Bowl.
If like I you think that a new CBA is a pipe dream anytime soon, I would think that makes very good sense.
