Super Bowl Picks & Friday Night Radio

February 2nd, 2010 - 8:44am by mark_cooper

Super Bowl

Was listening to Kurt Warner on ESPN this morning and what a great story. His interview was about how they approached the game reminded me a little of Super Bowl XXI. When we were practicing in the New Port Beach area getting ready for the Giants, we treated it like another big game. Big game obviously, but at that level there are a lot of Big Games, promise.

We felt real good about our chances against the Giants as we had played them earlier in the season and it was close. It’s a little weird when you get there…the road was tough, but just getting there, you felt like you could do it again. Little did I know how very-very tough it really was. Looking back, you almost wonder how you could have even thought that. It’s called Superman syndrome. Bullet proof, confident, disciplined, and the list goes on and on. You are so sure of yourself and your team that you just think it will happen again. Hmmmm.

South Florida and South beach are humming. Pro Bowl, players, celebrities and the night life has to be rocking. If you’ve never been, you have to go to just one. It’s one of those bucket list items you have to experience. I played in one and went to watch two others. It’s an experience like no other.

O.K. Colts are my pick even with Dwight Freeney out. I think Peyton has everyone pegged.

Coop

Friday night 4pm MST or 6pm EST I’m going to be on a radio show, SUN 103.1 a Florida Keys station and streaming live at http://www.easy969.com on the internet if you get a chance to listen. Capt. Bill Kelly hosts the show and Ken Keidel, one of the most knowledgeable guys about Miami Football will Co-host it with myself, Gary Dunn (Pittsburgh Steelers, here’s a recent article on Gary in the Miami Herald this week) and Pete Johnson from Phoenix, a PR genius.

It’s bound to get out of control so if your up for a giggle, listen in.

    saints will win

I feel an upset coming. Saints seem to have destiny on their side this year. I am thinking the opposite of you Coop, I think Freeney being out will make a big difference. Losing him in the pass rush will open things up for Brees to hit his receivers for big plays. Manning will be harassed like Farve was and that will disrupt his effectiveness in destroying defenses like he usually does. If it does become the Saints in an upset, the victory would be bitter sweet for Archie though don’t you think?

  3. milelow says:

I shure hope Mc Daniels act’s like he want’s the Broncos to win games next year and sighn Julius Peppers he will give the Broncos Dline a boost that they need.Instead of giveing all are probowlers away.Broncos need to make a move that makes sence like Fire Kyle Orton.

  4. TheRoyalBeast says:

I dunno about the saints. I say they lose. plus i dont think they got destiny on their side…isnt new Orleans known for its voodoo? lol. But seriously I got the colts winning. They arent as wishy washy as the saints…even without their pass rusher. Also, Manning can be down early and score 21 points in the 3rd quarter alone. Its almost guaranteed. Don’t get me wrong Saints are explosive too but they have fallen apart against crappy teams and while they come back sometimes, they also have lost to one (TB)

    I have the colts winning 30 – 24

for once i shall applaud you for spelling Kyle Ortons name correctly. But, we have our own pro bowlers to sign first before we go chasing other ones who are undoubtedly expensive. And also have to think about the Draft. Its a process. I believe he will be a nice addition (if the panthers let him go) but he might be ridiculously expensive as well and while we have the money the question is are we willing to pay it forward…Also I would rather see orton stay and simms go. Orton can at least play and can be a stud as a back up QB in the future

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

Colts win 34-28…………Peppers is definately not going to be with the Panthers next year,he’s due to make 20 mil next year so they done said they were releasing him,but how much will it cost to get him????I’m a big fan of his, would like to see him wearing a Bronco jersey, but will we pay the big bucks to get him????YEAH TRB SIMMS NEEDS TO GO!!!!!!!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

We need a NT worse than anything,I hope we address that 1st,whether it be FA,or draft.

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

As far as Orton goes I wouldn’t mind seeing him stay around as long as he’s not starting for 3 or 4 more years, like TRB said he will make a great backup, but if he starts 4 or 5 years he won’t want to be a backup.I say start him next year, see what happens, then maybe start Brandstater.IMO

  8. BeastFromEast92 says:

We all have our wish lists of who we want to keep, and who we want to draft and pick up in FA,but all said and done we are just monkeys in a barrell hoping McD don’t mess it all up.LOL

  9. baylinorcrush says:

I have the Colts for the simple reason that the Saints are plenty happy to just get to the super bowl for the first time in their franchise history. I don’t see how they will match the intensity of the Colts who will want it much worse as Manning wants to climb up the latter of greatest QB ever with one more SB win and the clock ticking out for him age wise. Too much partying and sense of accomplishment for the Saints after them winning the NFC championship will be the x factor in them losing this game, IMO.

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

I agree, plus the Saints Defense plays good sometimes but gives up a lotta points.

  11. BeastFromEast92 says:

Colts D is a lot more solid, even without Freeney.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

And yeah, Simms has better got to go, or I won’t renew my season tickets! Ooops, I forgot I don’t have season tickets, LOL. Well, anyway, I won’t buy a Simms jersey, that’s for sure, LOL.

  13. broncos20 says:

    Colts take this….

Even w/o their best DB Sanders and a couple injuries, they shutout almost everyone with younger players…theres always somebody stepping up for the Colts.

    17-31-Colts

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

College signing day tomorrow big day for a lotta kids.

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

Florida got 4 of the top 10 in the country.

  16. brian_schneider says:

Gotta go with the underdog again, going with the Saints.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

I guess the last time the underdog took it is the Jets two weeks ago, not very good odds, but I would love to see the Saints take it all, it would complete their cinderella story of post Katrina.

  18. brian_schneider says:

I also think that Brees wants it so bad not for just himself, but for his team, and most of all for the fans and the city of New Orleans. He’s pretty much lifted that entire city onto his shoulders.

  19. MarshMelo15 says:

As I said in an earlier blog, I think the Colts are the better team and will win in a shootout.

    Colts 38
    Saints 31

  20. baylinorcrush says:

The Dolphins are the team that’s really kicking itself in the rear for not signing Brees when they had a chance (after he hurt his shoulder and SD let him go). Miami would probably be in the SB instead, Brees is flat out awesome, moves in the pocket better than anyone I’ve ever seen and his accuracy is at least as good as anyone including Peyton.

  21. TheRoyalBeast says:

His accuracy is remarkable..the ball falls only in the area hiw reciever can catch it…not unless it was a COMPLETELY reckless throw. Brees is something special…Better than Rivers thats for sure. And Eli Manning who snubbed the chargers…

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

Brees is good no doubt, but Manning,he’s the smartest QB I’ve ever seen.

  23. DoomervilRocks92 says:

I pick the Saints in an upset, 31-24.

  24. BroncoAussie says:

The way Manning prepares for this game, he will tear the Saints D apart. I saw 34-21 Colts.

  25. Cali_BroncosFan says:

I got money on the Colts winning it.

Why all the hate in Kyle Orton?

  26. BroncoAussie says:

They just don’t like the neckbeard.

  27. oldsouthstander says:

Signing Julius Pepper would be a disaster. He’s always played in a 4-3 DL set up and demanded to be traded when his current team considered going to 3-4. Just what the Broncos need, an old, overpaid trouble maker who thinks of himself first.

  28. oldsouthstander says:

    Baylinorcrush
I’m stuck in upper Michigan, want my south stands seats (LOL)?

  29. royalbroncofan1 says:

My prediction before the playoffs began, was the Colts will win the Super Bowl and that hasn’t changed. Peyton Manning is going for two rings now and will get his second championship. Manning is a smart QB, and gets rid of the ball quicker than any other QB in the league. Sunday will be no different.
The Saints are a very talented group and will be out to score nonstop. Only thing is the Team on the other side is very capable of matching them score for score. More than half the Country will be pulling for the Saints who obviously are the underdog. It’s great to see Brees have the success he’s had after the Bolts gave up on him for Rivers…(Nice move A.J. Smith). It will come down to Defense and which will create more turnovers. I don’t know if Brees would have enjoyed the same success elsewhere as HC Sean Peyton is an offensive genius and the pairing of the two has paid big dividends for the franchise. Agree this game could turn into a big shootout! I believe AFC will continue it’s domination over NFC beginning the new decade.

  30. sndvl says:

I’ll take the Saints. 24-21, Everybody is expecting an offensive shootout!

  31. DOOMervilfan says:

I think the Colts will probably win although i want the Saints.

Hey I read that Jerry Porter wants to be released from the Dolphins. If they do cut him he would be a great pass rusher opposite Dumervil.

  32. mikew007 says:

    Colts win I think….41-31

    NO PORTER! NO PEPPERS!

Porter is a POS and Peppers is a 4-3 guy and wants too much money.

  33. mark_cooper says:

Mixed bag on the game…funny how the sports writers and talk shows are trying to make this a Peyton “best ever game”.

Don’t get me wrong I think he will be when the dust settles at the end of his career but it never surprises me of the stories that get made up before a game.

Tough not to like the guy really. Love the Drew Brees, New Orleans Aint’s story and the Katrina Hurricane recap. Cool story that the son of the Saints QB of the past “son” is playing his fathers team. Really doesn’t get much better than that for a Dad and the whole family.

I always look forward to the Superbowl hype and sites dedicated to the game. Almost overwhelming.

    Still got the COLTS.

Thought I’d add this event for you all in case you can join me. Last year if you remember, this is the event that was held to Roast “Greek” our athletic trainer since before I came here in 1983.

I made a few cracks about Cutler during the Roast that got picked up by ESPN and the local media and some bloggers went after me pretty hard. Hmmm, what a difference a year makes and 28? INT’s later for Cutler…I look pretty smart.
