I’d do it again EVERY TIME…why because as an offensive line you can get enough push to get it in the end zone. Now who to blame…no ONE. The offensive line will take the blame because they will MAN-UP and say we didn’t get it done. The Titans defense got better push than our offensive line did and they will tell you that. It happens and we can get better at it and will. It’s grind time in the trenches and we will win that one. I run every time on 4th and inches…still.
Our defense played great against the run but the veteran Hasselbeck knew where to put the ball all day. Take a look at the stats…oddly identical in most categories except the passing game. Even with Britt out you have to give credit where credit is due. Their receivers stepped up and got the job done and we had a tough time defending. With Champ and Doom out, it takes a shut down corner and our best pass rusher out of the game. That equals more time to deliver the ball. AND Hasselbeck did.
Did any of you see the Colts-Steelers game last night? Freeney and Mathis almost single handedly kept Pittsburgh in check with their pass rush. It reminded me how bad we miss Doom. A big time pass rush makes a veteran QB look helpless.
Again, call me a homer but I saw enough good stuff to see progress. When we execute and play our game we look pretty dang good…but when we have a breakdown at one spot or another we have a tough time recovering. Still in the game at the end and a tipped pass was the difference…again…lots of good things to build on.
I like the progress and it will really show (one way or the other) as we step into the next two games of the schedule with defending SB Champs Green Bay Packers, then San Diego.
After that, Miami’s struggling at 0-3, Detroit’s 3-0, Oakland beat the Jets this past weekend and KC’s 0-3. I was sitting in on the MAC & DOOG radio show last week and we had a lot of fun talking about the upcoming schedule, so listen in every Tuesday at 4:05 as we recap the blog and the game with the fellas.
P.S. Held my Charity flyfishing event over the weekend and we raised $71K gross, still waiting on the final number for Cystic Fibrosis with 36 anglers and a beautiful weekend float fishing two awesome rivers.
What’s on your mind after the game?
GO BRONCOS, Coopster

I get that Tebow prob won’t be starting anytime soon……….but why not at least build him into the gameplan. The kid has assets that are never utilized………….design some plays to get him into the game and keep the opposing D wondering what’s coming at them.
Your right Atwater4hof but would Orton be our starter?
missed the s. our d is showing signs of beast mode.
That’s a good question. My gut says no, a lot of coaches around the league were not interested in him coming out of college. Tough to say
@ DenverOranges… man, our offense barely gets into the endzone twice per game against average defenses, i would be very surprised to see our O score 2 TD’s agains a good defense! lol
We need Orton to stay our starter, if we change we might win games and we will not have a chance to get Luck in the draft. Did you guys see that KC and the Colts almost won and the Seahawks did win, so we need Orton! Please.
Suck for Luck could be the biggest suckcess story of the season, haha.
I know everyone in my survivor league is going to pick Green Bay this week. I just can’t do it. So please Denver, if you are ever going to pull a sick upset, do it this week. Just once. Thanks.
Curt
now onto game talk… once again, Orton proves that he is who we thought he was! Im not saying that everything he does is wrong. Its just that when you need him to make a play, he struggles! He made a BAD throw to Willis for our first TD. GREAT catch by willis and blown coverage by Tenn makes that one happen! When Orton scrambled, he actually LOST yards! I mean seriously! I dont know whats worse, watching orton throw it away again, or watching him try to scramble to pick up yards. Hard to watch regardless… Im trying to remember and perhaps my memory is slightly foggy due to the beer effect, but did our O even make a real attempt to get the ball down the field? I cant recall one. heck all you have to do is look at Deckers numbers 7 rec for 48 yds… 48 yds?? that just shows how many passes we threw for short gains! watching our O is about as inspiring as watching paint dry!!
Now the D… WOO HOO!!! not great, but MAN is it nice to see them shut down that run game! Wish we could have gotten more pressure on the QB, but as we all know our front 7 is pretty depleted right now! Miller will look twice as good with Doom back, and Champ shuts down their best reciever. We are slowly growing into a tough D and im loving watching it happen! Right now im watching the games just to see our Defense play! Cant wait to have Doom,DJ, and Champ back!
well thats my rant for the day!
Go Broncos!!
OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS…
THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES!!
The only problem is, if we get Luck, then this qq situation continues next year. And, what would Fox do with 2 rookie qb’s on the team without his veteran? He has to have a veteran for a starter.
at that point, Tebow is considered a vet! LMAO
Quinn is the vet.
Q is still part of the QQ, just wait to see what happens if Orton goes down.
quinn will be gone!
I am afraid to even think about that at yjis point. Wasn’t it ‘leaked’ a bit ago that there were no play schemes in the play book involving Tebow?
yjis=this (long night)
quick mention about the 4th and goal call… with the way our O line had been playing i felt that we should have just taken the points and lived to fight another day. But to further confuse me, why would we not want to use Tebow in that situation? may not have made a bit of difference, but he unquestionably adds another dimension to our offense!
thats my take!
Tebow had a record 6 rushing TDs on the team last year, that right there ought to be enough a message for Fox and McCoy to get, one who think so anyway, but NOOOOO!!! LOL.
Guys I hate to break this to you, but I’m pretty sure all that creative play calling that was going on when Studesville was interim coach can be accredited to Mccoy. I am going to look more in to this but, but if you watch Tim Tebow’s Sound FX against the Texans you see some instances of Tebow and Mccoy figuring out plays to dial up. And all that creativity is rooted in Tim’s unique skillset. There’s things he doesn’t do as well as the typical QB and there’s things he does that no one else can do. Combine that with the fact that we were playing from behind and you got your formula for some outside the box play calling. The funny thing is I remember nearly everyone complaining about the uninspired and predictable playcalling in the Raider game the week before.
I like Studs a lot, and I don’t necessarily have my heart set on Mccoy. All I am saying is be reasonable. Coaches usually start working on next season’s playbook before their current season is even over. Fox did not have that. Nor did we have a proper off season to install said playbook with the players. So let’s all take a deep breath. Week in and week out we try to find that one person to blame.
This was a team loss, not a Mccoy loss. If you wanna take Orton out and put in Tebow you already know I’m all for that. Like Bay said, he just isn’t clutch. That being said you can’t pin this whole thing on Orton either. Teaaam.
My mantra for this year is that we need to be a better team in November than we are now. That’s the goal. Not the Superbowl. Not the playoffs. Just improvement. All the elite teams play their best football at the end of the year. That’s what we need to show we can do.
With that said I’ll leave you this:
In week one we were penalized 10 times for 91 yards. In week two we had had 7 penalties for 55 yards. This week – 1 penalty for 15 yards. After the Raider game I said priority one was cleaning up the penalties, and right now it looks like the team has worked hard and did just that.
GO BRONCOS
one would think so…
And I agree we should at least stick Tebow in there for the red zone packages!
Before I sign off for the week, I’d just like to say: Shoulda, woulda, coulda! Shoulda taken the FG. Coulda given up the tying TD. Woulda stuffed the 2pt conversion. Ahhhh…. Next week…. Ladies and gentlemen, have a great week. Catch you all next weekend. Semper Broncos!!!
rayjr26,
I was sais about a week or so ago that they do not have any plays developed with TT in mind. So basically I took that as he was just taking up a roster space this season. They can’t put him in to run the play if there is no play for him designed to run. He was simply put on the field in the last game to shut the fans up from booing Orton. There was no intention of even throwing the ball his way. Everything has been a huge smokescreen, but they need to realize is the smoke is beginning to blow away on them.
McCoy and Fox teamed up in Carolina for multiple years and just ask any Carolina fans how they liked their play calling.
BBR and that penalty this week was a good acting penalty by the runner as the replay showed. Face mask not grabbed, but made to look like it.
I think just like Fox went outside the box and hired Allen for DC he needs to do the same with OC and I hope he will, because he said the main reason he kept McCoy this year was to get continuity on O while he could help fix the D, so next year with most of the D on the way of being fixed it will be time to fix the O, just saying. The status quo on O sucks right now but it’s impossible to fix everything in one season so I’m sincerely hoping that’s how Fox will proceed.
Quote of the Day
“Without viewing the tape yet, I’m sure there are going to be some shortcomings.” -John Fox said of Kyle Orton’s performance against the Titans, a 17-14 loss.
Due to the “escalators” in Tebow’s contract we won’t see him anytime soon, I think we can all agree. Even with our defficient redzone offense we haven’t seen Tebow in any goaline packages, so I think we can all agree we won’t see him there either. We’re allegedly in our “easy” part of our schedule and we’re continuing to lose. If we’re in the top 5 overall in next year’s draft we’ll do quite a bit to draft Luck. Since Tebow’s an unknown and his contract has those escalators, he’ll be cut next year. Orton and Quinn will no longer be under contract so Orton gone for sure, Quinn maybe they resign him and look for another veteran to compete with him but Luck will be the starter. It all boils down to who is ahead of us and what we’re willing to throw at them to get Luck. That’s just my prediction, I know it is a long was out but…c’mon after watching the past three weeks I honestly think we’ll be in the same boat we were in last season…unless something changes.
Escalators are good for high rise buildings.
I feel like this team is progressing in one area … and falling back in others … its like 1 step forward, 2 steps backwards. I believe this team has potential to be good, but not this year, not with this QB and not with this play calling. And for the love of God can we switch back to the zone blocking scheme. I know we got bigger linemen now but they sure aint running the power well. And Clady has played both, he came into the NFL hoping to get drafted by the broncos and play in thier zone scheme.
The call was fine. The play was not. And as a trencher I hear ya coop, Oline gonna take that blame, because at the end of the day, whether that was needed or not, there may come a time it is needed and u got to be able to get inches. The wise and safe decision woulda been to take the FG but I kinda liked the call because I felt this team was heading for conservative safeness over drive to win. Maybe next time.
Hows this for my Packers prediciton Baylin? Packers Win, broncos Dont lmao.
believe it or not if champ and doom and DJ play I think we can win. Its crazy I know but with a team like the Packers who live and die by the pass and have an average running O … its time to display if our Batman and robin can put up or shutup … Pass happy packers are the right test … so if Batman can go … we will learn alot … altho that still doesn’t help our Offensive woes against a merciless D. Wake me up when its Tebow Time.
Later Days, TRB
Ok for shopping malls, haha.
I should say “incentives” haha.
You can take the “stairs” with Orton or you can ride the “escalator” with Tebow…hehe
Stairway to nowhere or stairway to heaven.
I bet that was sweet redemption for Kern gashing our ST for 20 yards..I think any punter would like that.
we have a top ten deffense. it’s just hard to notice when the offense can pull off good drives. I feel what our offense is missing is a leader. I feel we are close of being conterders once again. we have great players on offense just no leader.
Orton being a captain is like a slap in the face to all captains in the league.
Orton is the captain of the SS Minnow.
Next week looks Den 13 GB 24
I grew up with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas drafted Roger Staubach in the 12th round, with the knowledge that they would have to wait for him to complete his military commitment. When Roger arrived, Coach Landry did not like him, as Roger was not the prototypical NFL QB, as he was quick to run, and didn’t stay in the pocket. Craig Morton gave Dallas a better chance to win. SOUND FAMILIAR. Craig Morton got hurt, Roger came in, and the rest was Hall of Fame History. Roger Staubach, “the Cowboys brightest STAR”, thrived on pressure, as did Elway. Staubach and Elway, were best in pressure situations, in the cluth, when the game is on the line. Both would have won the game yesterday, no matter what happened on 4th & one. Orton does not thrive under pressure. We need to find out if Tebow or Quinn does.
I have a bone to pick with Quan Cosby with the hit on Kern. Going low on a punter? A punter, not a RB, or even WR but a punter. And by low, I mean low low low and he rolled over. That is inexcusable. Good returns, looks solid, but I hope he doesn’t have to tackle anymore.
Nailed it through the uprights as usual, Coop!
Yes, the offense struggled. So did Baltimore’s the week before against the same team. At the very least, this proved that our running game has nothing to do with who’s running the ball – McGahee danced as much as Moreno ever did in the backfield yesterday because the o-line kept letting their d-line get penetration. We probably should have taken some shots down the field, but they tend to play their safeties deep to try to keep everything in front of them, so you’ve got to make those short & medium throws until the safeties start to cheat up – just didn’t do it enough.
On defense, we played pretty well except in the back end where, unfortunately, it looks like the young guys are making some mistakes that are killing us. The blown coverage on the TE late in the game, the jump ball that Hasselbeck threw down the middle that none of our guys bothered to make a play on, letting the punter turn a bad snap into 20+ yards and a first down – just a couple missed assignments that are killing us. Things will be better when we get Champ and Doom back – hopefully in time for GB on Sunday.
For now, I’m going to focus on the fact that we seem to keep getting better and don’t appear to be taking too many steps backward in the process.
Cheers, all & GO BRONCOS!!!
You’re right about that penalty Seaweatherman. We should have only had six against the Bengals instead of 7 as well. Who knows how Fox will proceed. If we do change coordinators I hope we don’t get a new every year. Continuity is key.
I am curious as to a few things.
Problem with the play calling:
Kyle Orton, looked off of his primary read, twice. Just two times, did he look off of the first read. Any completed pass by Kyle Orton, is a product of one of two things, 1) the play call 2) his first read open.
Matt Hasselbeck, the second drive in the 3rd quarter, had passed to 11 different players. No game plan, or play calling attributes to 11 receptions by different players.
Problems with defense pass defense:
When I see these stats, such as 11 different guys, even with your star out of the game, it shows heads up play by the QB. What defense can hold up when a QB, can get completions to this many different people. Objectively, not that many.
The drive, starting the third quarter. Kept alive by… Defensive penalties, Kyle Orton did not manufacture that drive, he just did not screw it up. Never looked off of the primary read.
The interception. KO had just completed a pass, that made me gush. I absolutely loved it. Maybe that’s the 7 on 7 Kyle Orton, EFX loves so much. Then he throws low, and gets picked. Killed any upside to his performance.
Over all, Kyle Orton was not the bum of that Monday Night. He played exactly the way he will for the entirety of his career. Blah, blah, blah. And sorry but that is just not good enough for my favorite franchise.
Stevecan2,
The Titans tried to give us the game and we still blew it. I think its time for you to pad up and go take Ortons spot U cant do any worse!
I wish they could’ve just gotten a deal done before the season to ship orton outta here and then we wouldn’t have to torture ourselves with his “mediocre at best” talent. I’d much rather be losing with Tebow, but at least finding out if he has what it takes. Worst thing is, we’re still gonna lose and not know what we potentially have with TT.
You guys make me sick – sayanora …
What I was most impressed with.
Obviously the run D. Despite the fact that Tenn with CJ2K had only averaged 47.5 yds per game for their previously 2. We looked liked we could stop anyone. It was unbelievable. Everyone is bowing to our pass rush early, but a few more performances completely smashing the runs, we will start stuffing even the good teams.
I am most excited about, knowing that we had just given up over 400 yds of passing and gave just 17 points. Despite the 58 yd blown pass defensive play and the pass to CJ down the side line. We stopped them almost every single time we had too. HOWEVER after the two clutch stops in Cincy, I am ashamed to imagine the defense being attributed to this loss, when they were not shown any Bronco love by fake or real fans, with very few exceptions.
Going for 6 instead of settling for 3. Well, in a season of baby steps, I was impressed to see that John Fox does indeed have testicles. Bone headed call? Sure, with the outcome, but I will applaud it. Minus the time out. Their D had just continued a stalled drive that we started on their own 13 yard line. No time out, we get the six.
Two games, forced fumble by Von Miller, two games less than 6 points from the ensuing drive, two losses.
That drive. The throw away by Kyle Orton. Looks for the primary read, covered, throws it away. Never once, looked off of that read.
Wieminca,
Sorry man it’s hard to say anything positive about a player that is so negative maybe you should stay off the site until we start winning.
what’s up with WieminCA?
