Ram Tough or Bronx Mistakes

November 28th, 2010 - 8:49pm by mark_cooper

It was another tough game to watch. We get out of the gates like a team on a mission and the get shut down for the second and third quarters.

I had to keep watching and it almost happened. Almost!! Dog gone it and few other words… Man, that hurts. There were too many turnovers and at the very end a early snap late didn’t help the affair and the sack. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The telling fact was simply (1-9 or 11%) success on third downs. Stats, don’t you love em. Guess what our average yards per carry was??

Yep, 6.6 and 119 yards??…And we throw for 330 yards. That’s what gets ya. The stats. Not like we can’t get up and down the field. Now the killer….turnovers. In the NFL, that means disaster.

It’s not like we couldn’t move the ball… it was just inconsistent as always. Even the broadcasters were dogging the team, which was a little weird in that they went back to all the draft picks and the prior offense that we had and the guys that are gone. When the game got close again, they didn’t say a word. I guess everyone’s inconsistent…except us here in blogosphere.

Man, that one hurt but the 3rd downs just killed us.

A few friends texted me from the game and said the crowd was booing the coach and the stands were empty…. That kind of bums me out. If anyone has folks that don’t want to go to the game, have them jump in here on this blog and I know a TON of kids that would love to have the chance to go to the game.

I do a radio gig each Tuesday at 4 pm with Mac and Doog and I’m going to reiterate that because the stands should be full every week in this town and I’m a little upset about that. Wow!!

I would really love to go to a game sometime, but watching the team play like this is really painful

  2. 07elway says:

Rough game indeed Coopster. Gets me all excited when they jump ahead and then my stomach turns when they give up as a team. Makes me sick. We got no mojo within this team.

I said this on the previous blog but the inconsistency started a few years back when keep changing coaches in different areas like our D coach for instance. We’ve had 5 different ones in the last 5 years… if they can’t get consistency going within the coaching staff, how can we expect the same from the players. We haven’t stuck with a defensive coach long enough to find out what could happen there. I mean its like common sense. We all know these coaches come with different styles of doing things & systems, and certain kinds of players they want. We’ve had more players come ‘n go then I care to count.

Was great to see this team fight for the comeback, and they were so close to getting it, it hurts even more. Too many problems, my brain is swimming. AHHHHH!!!! is right. :0

I was bummed out about this game, but not too bummed out. The scary thing is I actually felt a Rams blowout coming all week, so a 3 point loss was actually a pleasant surprise for me.

When the O went down and scored right away my fellow game watchers were all saying maybe this would be a good game for the Broncos. But I told everyone, just wait, we’ll be down big by halftime. Sadly, I was right.

Like I said, it was nice to see the frantic comeback to make it look a lot closer, but it’s sad that I’m expecting a loss more often than not these days…

    Let’s aim for 5-11! lol

  4. Warhawk says:

Don’t blame the fans – booing and leaving is all they can do to demonstrate their frustration with the state of the team. The HC definitely deserves to be booed mercilessly, for his decisions both on and off the field.

  5. rayjr26 says:

well, this should have eliminated us from the playoffs i think. ITS TEBOW TIME!
TEBOW TEBOW TEBOW …. sorry, had to do it! :)
Keep on buckin broncos (and fans)
THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

    WARHAWK…….I heard that!!!!!!!

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

    ray…I agree 100% bro!!!

  8. sndvl says:

That squirrel was hilarious! Tough way to end the game, sadly. Our D consistently gives up the big play. Our offense consistently bombs on 3rd downs. Because we are consistently making mistakes! (penalties, bad play calling, not being on the same page)! Why do we shy away from our run game? Why don’t we pound that rock 30 times a game? Oh yeah, were always down. Or in 3rd and long. Sooooooo frustrating. Mile-High has turned into a wine cellar! Booooooooooo

    Fire McD

  9. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Coop

I agree that the stands should be full every weekend but the way this team is playing, I dont blame people for not showing support. If we were playing hard and losing its one thing but we look like we are just playing some uninspired football and getting out coached on every level. The O does the D no favors, the D tries but they are not the most talented or best coordinated bunch and being on the field all game doesn’t help. I can’t even remember the last time our team had an interception. Fact is, the stands will be full when the organization starts giving a crap what the fans think. Only place we can hurt em is in the pocketbook so thats why they do what they do. If you completely buy bad product in other words u are supporting mediocrity and if someone can keep selling u a less than par product and still make profit they will. On the bright side, this team is not without talent, what it however lacks is leadership, discipline and preparation … all the job of the coaching staff. This is just my opinion ofcoures.

In other news, how bout the chargers. Hate em but what can u say, november and december are their months and once again they doing what they do best. End Strong. Not watching the game but judging by the scores and interceptions manning has thrown (4, WOW when was the last time manning threw that many) they are making the colts look like lil boys. First time the win-loss stats lied in the case of the Bolts cuz they sure are number 1 in total offense and defense but u wouldn’t know that by their record. TRB out…

  10. sndvl says:

Eddie Royal is being misused. But so are a lot of others. Don’t you all know? McD has a script!

  11. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah Coop, I always love your posts but really, what do the fans have to be proud of at this point? Lackluster efforts? Fast starts followed by slow finishes? Never ending controversy and drama? Weekly bad publicity? Trading away fan favorites for not much in return? No identity to speak of? An enormous injury list every single season for about the past 6 or 8? Not having back to back wins in over a year? Swapping out an already good offense for another pretty good one while the defense still hasn’t even gotten close to being fixed?

I think you get the idea.

Make no mistake, this is still the best fan base in the world. It’s clear though the fans are tired of not getting much in return for their loyalty for about 5 years now. I think it’s safe to say some empty seats is totally justifiable.

  12. Yovi21 says:

The one thing we did right in that game was USING ROYAL! The guy can play and we need to use him more! personally he is one of my favorite players and quite honestly if it wasn’t for him we would have never had a shot a a comeback, but whatever I’m sure he will fly under the radar for the rest of the year!

    P.S. TEBOW TIME!

  13. WieminCA says:

Well – I missed the big “comeback” ’cause I skipped out mid-3rd quarter … well – why not??? I’m tired of seeing the same game every week … I’m tired of seeing us make opposing quarterbacks look like John Elway every week … I’m tired of seeing us have a terrific “pre-programmed” initial drive that makes us look like Super Bowl material, then have the opposing coaches figure out what we’re doing – change their defense – and have us take half the game to change the offense to compensate … McD standing on the sidelines poring over his play sheet is starting to look like a ruse … he doesn’t seem to be able to adapt in real time … there have been a lot of coaches like that – good strategists “on paper”, but not good at the real time game … and talk about not having a clue – while I was watching, our defense didn’t look like they could stop Northern Colorado … oh, they make some really good plays, and I have to give them credit because they appear to really want to bust somebody when they DO make a tackle – but way too often there are what must be mental lapses that allow an opponent to be all by himself waiting for the ball … maybe they’re just not smart enough – they don’t recognize an alignment – or they’re not experienced enough together to hold each other up … whatever – it’s PAINFUL to see them flailing around out there … truthfully – it all stems from the fact that we NEVER pressure the quarterback … and our blitzes always come up a split-second short … I repeat – IT’S PAINFUL TO WATCH … I want to root for this team – I want to see them do good – I want to see Orton get some support – I really want to see them WIN, damn it!!!!

And – oh, yeah – anybody know how Peyton Hillis did today???

  14. WieminCA says:

Oh, yeah – if we could only arrange it so that our offense could play against our defense every week – why, we’d be in the SUPER BOWL!!!!

  15. UKBroncos says:

The UK may be losing faith…..

  16. stevecan2 says:

I cannot emphasize enough that turn overs and lack of execution are on the players not the coach. The players don’t deserve to be allowed a pass because we have an unpopular coach. The idea that ultimate responsibility falls directly on McDaniels is true, and if players refuse to work productively for a leader, then a leadership change is needed. But my disappointment this year does not end at McDaniels.

  17. killerkod says:

3rd place in the score predictions! Whoo hoooo! lol

It sux though cause I did pick the team to lose, and unfortunately they didn’t let me down. Even though I was off by 11, I did say that the Rams would thrash our HORRIBLE D and that’s exactly what they did. We couldn’t cover Betty White out there!

And you know it’s bad when your team starts to mount a comeback and you don’t even get excited anymore cause you just know what the outcome will be….Orton choking when the team needs him most and the game is on the line.

THEY ARE WHO THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!

Come on Mr. Bowlen, WAKE UP AND TAKE CONTROL OF A SPIRALING SITUATION! You’re letting your franchise become one of the laughing stocks of the league.

This is sooooo frustrating! Stats don’t mean SH#$ when you can’t win. I would trade stats for W’s anyday.

  18. killerkod says:

They are who WE thought they were!

Need another cup of coffee before typing! LOL

  19. Yovi21 says:

I agree CA, our defense cannot get to the opposing QB ever it seems. I find myself watching us blitz sometimes and we send 6 or 7 guys and almost every time they all get held up at the line. It is apparent that this team misses DOOM; when he was injured at the beginning of the year I was disappointed, but I could never have imagined that it would affect our team so much.
On offense (sorry I’m bringing it up again), I love what Orton has done, statistically, in his two years here, but enough is enough. I want to see Tebow because I truly feel he can be our next Franchise QB, but McD refuses to play him? I get an unsettling feeling that maybe Tebow isn’t progressing like McD wanted him to. Either way, Orton isn’t getting it done, he looks great in the stat books until the W/L column. Since I know McD is too proud to give up on this season I’m hoping Tebow will get his first start against the Cards.

    GO BRONCOS!

P.S. I did see hillis’ day, funny thing, don’t WE need a powerback?

  20. sndvl says:

Were half way to our fourth, four game losing streak. Not good. What with our trip to KC coming up.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Cooper, I think we all need to take a step back and look at the whole picture before we venture out to blame the fans for leaving early yesterday. Before I do that I want it to be known that I am very stupid in that way and I always watch my team to the very end every single game no matter what the score is. That being said this is the picture us fans have been looking at:

    We finished last year 2-8

We are starting this year 3-8

So we are on a 5-16 run right now

We have only won one division game at home in two years

We have allowed the Raiders to set their all time highest score in our house (59)

We allowed the Rams to win their very first away game since Nov. 1st of last year

And the above has all happened under McD’s watch

And for three years before that we were mediocre with a 500 record (24-24)

And we had to watch an all time NFL collapse record in 2008 when all we had to do was win one of the last three games to get into the dance against teams like Buffalo and Carolina, only to blow them all and watch SD stomp us to the tune of 52-21 on the very last game to steal the playoffs from us

All this stuff adds up, we have beeen mediocre for 4 years in a row and this fifth and current year we have to win the last 5 in a row to remain mediocre, so it’s a gimme we will attain new lows that we have seen only just once since 1973 (5-11 in 1990, and that was after a superbowl year, much easier to take then)

So, if the fans leave early, and I don’t condone it since I don’t do it, I do understand it, they have every right to be fed up by now, Bowlen got the taxpayers to buy him a new stadium because he said that was the only way he could build us a winning team here again and look at what the taxpayers have gotten for their money…

This franchise has reached new lows that were only matched in the sixties, this is absolutely unacceptable, we are witnessing the utter decimation of our team right in front of our very eyes, like this blogger said in the DP, in this off season McD will write a book titled: “How to destroy a professional football team in less than two years”, available at a book store near you!, and I fully concur. The organization can consider themselves lucky that they are plenty of idiots like me willing to pay hundreds of dollars to see such a low quality product. I do think that the fans would send a much better message to the organization if they boycotted home games all together, spending their hard earned money on better value things instead of simply walking out early on a game, that doesn’t accomplish much, the money still came in, but if the money stopped coming in the organization would finally have no other option than to listen to the fans and do something about it.

This Xanders/McD status quo is killing me, it’s killing our team and it falls so much lower than the Broncos standards we are accustomed to it’s making me ill.

And now it’s on to KC in December, my god, it will get way worse before it gets better, and at Oakland, Houston, SD!!! Maybe we can win the one in Arizona and finish 4-12, a kind of record we have not seen since 1967, 43 years ago, how sad is all that!!!

  22. baylinorcrush says:

    mellow in disguise. Congrats bud.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

I thought you guys would love to see this:

    Peyton Hillis

Rushed for 131 yards and scored three touchdowns. His 11 TDs this season tie him with Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly among Browns backs to have that many in one year.

Hillis is in a sentence with Jim Brown and McD traded him for Brady Quinnn, plus a draft pick, hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Another example of how bad it really is:

The Broncos (3-8) are in a free-fall, having scored the fewest points of any AFC West team and having surrendered more points than any other team in the league.

  25. rayjr26 says:

coop… sorry to say it, but the fans have every right to not show up on game day. our team doesnt show up, so why should we? considering it generally costs a non season ticket holder between 250 and 300 dollars JUST FOR TICKETS not to mention the crazy cost of parking, and the exorbitant prices for concessions, you are looking at a nearly 500 dollar outing to see what? nothing, thats what. i have a ticket to the last game of the year that was given to me for free otherwise i would not even bother going to a game this year. i generally make it to 1 home game a year and have spent ridiculous amounts of money on tickets but until i see some kind of promise that will be going to the way side. our organization is in TERRIBLE shape! McD looks lost. our defense continues to be a huge disappointment, we abandon the run at the first sign of distress, and orton continues to choke on game winning drives. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! changes need to be made! PERIOD!
i want to see tebow play. we burned 3 pick that could have been used to help shore up a pathetic over the hill defense to get him. time to see if he was worth it. most likely wont change the outcome of the season but at least it gives fans hope! team brass can not ignore us forever. im with bay. boycott the home games. hit them in the pocket book. thats apparently the only way to get their attention!
Keep on buckin broncos (and fans)
    TEBOW TEBOW TEBOW……GRUDEN GRUDEN GRUDEN

  26. Crazyhorserider says:

    Cooper,

I never get mislead by looking at stats, I look at results.

Any team can give the other yards so it looks like you have done well, but if they don’t let you finish, or you haven’t got a cutting edge, all those yards can come to nothing.

Managing the game and managing the clock, stopping and making turnovers, all are pointers to a successful team.

As Bay says our record is rubbish and faith in the management has ebbed away. The fans are only left with voting with their feet as the owner does not want to listen. If only the fans could own the team!!

  27. rebelbronco says:

The worse part about yesterday was watching a coach we could of had come in and spank us in our own house. Not that we have any kind of home field advantage anyhow. I’m sure Bowlen is regretting passing on Spagnola to go hire McNutthead, what a joke!

  28. Crazyhorserider says:

For all those Cutler haters, close your eyes.

4 touchdown passes from 21 passes/14 completions, and he is in a team with an 8-3 winning record. Plus a hot redzone performance playing against the Eagles.

It is not only Hillis who we are missing.

  29. sndvl says:

Baylin, you forgot- first Rams win in Denver since 1979.
Kinda bittersweet for Bowlen and Kronke!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

    And another:

Once 2-2 after an impressive victory at Tennessee, the Broncos have allowed a staggering 238 points in their next seven games, an average of 34.0.

“I didn’t know we had been in a stretch like that,” nose tackle Jamaal Williams said. “I’m speechless.”

  31. sndvl says:

Casey Wiegmann centering for the leagues best rushing attack!
Our O-line is out of sync. They sometimes down right stink. They are definitely a penalty stricken bunch. They choke under pressure as much as Orton.
Phonzy woulda fit right in under this D. Or secondary.

  32. sndvl says:

Ugh. Anyway, how bout Decker with a couple nice grabs!

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Another “better late than never” McD specialty.

  34. sndvl says:

    Hahaha. Ah yes. His specialty.

  35. rebelbronco says:

No kidding mellow (neworleansbronco). A lot of us wanted Spag, because he was a defensive minded coach, exactly what we needed. And now it is still what we need!

  36. vraptor567 says:

add to that the successes this week of our former Broncos, being fined for filming…. what a rough season for us Broncos fans

  37. strandoftds says:

I went to the game and met up with Broncofreak30. He was a really cool dude. My buddy and I met up with him and his Buds. Dispite losing the game we had a crazy time. The seats were 50 yard line, and 2 rows from the field. The best seats I every had. We were right behind the Rams bench. Man, those turnovers killed. Moreno needs to hold onto that ball. D had so many holes, it was rediculously silly. Every time Bradford rolled out of the pocket there was a first down. The D didn`t Improvise to the rollout. If a play happens over and over again, anticipate and watch for it. Stop getting burned by the same play. Plain and simple.

  38. strandoftds says:

The Squirrel ran for a TD. That was great fun though.

  39. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah, I really wanted Spag as our coach as well. That’s what made yesterday all the more difficult. He was my top choice for HC during Mr. B’s interview process. Now seeing him in first place in his division with a much, much younger team than what we have really bothers me. Think of what he could have done here with an already established offense if he could have just come in and rebuilt the defense around guys like Doom. We would be 9-2 or 10-1 right now.

But I guess 3-8 will have to do.

  40. strandoftds says:

And ya , A lot of empty seats. We`ve never seen that before. Kind of sad I think. Also the fans were booing alot thats for sure. Many are saying McD has to go. One section of the stadium was chanting Tebow!! Tebow!! Tebow!!

  41. strandoftds says:

Like I said before, the way the Bronco`s are playing we are going to have a top 5 pick in April. We need young D players. All D this draft. Plain and simple.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW, live and learn McD.

  43. vraptor567 says:

guess if you don’t have anything good to say……..

  44. baylinorcrush says:

I always have things to say, good things like for the whole week after the KC win and not good things like this week and 7 other losing weeks this year, this league is based on wins and losses last I checked…

  45. baylinorcrush says:

Plus I have written so many the Good, the Bad and the Ugly pieces the last two years always making sure to point out to the good stuff in games I think your comment was totally unjustified.

  46. Broncfalls says:

    http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/11/28/report-gruden-contacted-university-of-miami-about

Looks like one of the coaches some would like to see wants a headset back!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Gruden would be the perfect fit for the tough nose football of the University of Miami, I bet Coop will be totally psyched to hear that.

  48. strandoftds says:

I do wonder If McD is going to last any longer. This just does`nt seem right. He may be gone at seasons end. Mr. Bowlen might have to bite the bullet. He just might have to count his losses in more ways than one of course, and fire McD, hire a new HC and pay all of them if we are going to move forward as a team and get us back as a credible team, on and off the field.

  49. strandoftds says:

Everything is falling apart at the seems, No question about it. Totally sucks.

  50. baylinorcrush says:

    Couldn’t agree more.
