Quinn trade and acquisitions

March 24th, 2010 - 9:01pm by mark_cooper

Love all the talk around town about the “NEW GUYS.”

I like what I see and those of you that follow this blog know that nothing happens until training camp when the pads get strapped on and they get going…even after the draft, there much to talk, cry, moan about but nothing concrete. I know I sound like a broken record BUT I honestly don’t get to excited or to sad about much…BUT I will tell you a story.

There was once a QB that won the Heisman Trophy in college, stood 6’5″ tall 225 LB’s and was every bit a stud and even looked a little like Tebow…..got ya thinking huh?

Well I knew him as a freshman at the U and was impressed the first game I saw him play. (lost his redshirt)

I later played with him on a team that had what I’d call average coaching and average coaches (record proved it). This big strong QB was called to save the game almost every week and he once threw about 72 passes for close to 400 yards in a defeat…crazy…I was there. (another story behind that night) in the Thunderdome…they called it.

If he had coaching, mentoring, anything, there early in his career he may have had a chance to hold all the records in the league…..any guess’s yet?

So, what’s Coop trying to say?

I’m giving Quinn the benefit of the doubt until he gets here and gets some coaching and some training because this system fits him like a glove. I like his talent, age, size and attitude.

…..so what do you think AND who was the QB I was talking about? Be back Tuesday to check in.

Go Broncos!

So you’re telling me you and Brandon b-days are only 3 days apart? No wonder you like the kid, LOL.

  2. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Good point broncofanlvnm.

  3. royalbroncofan1 says:

Oh- ok it was Warren then. I remember Lynch hitting Brees with arm extended back causing the fumble.

  4. whitebronco#1 says:

If Marshall wants to be out of here after a 9.5 mil a year contract, then there’s nothing to be done, other than ask for the right price for him.

But I think some of that points Woody said worries Marshall (and his agent), too. Those things go in detriment for him, too. So, what if that 9.5 mil /year contract was filled with “buts” and a very low guaranteed money? The team would have been doing fair in that, playing sure for their inversion. But on the Marshall side that would have never been convenient, because he couldn’t be sure that he wouldn’t be suspended or gotten into off the field issues.

I have to think this way, because 9.5 mil a year isn’t a bad deal… or DWill death really affected Marshall and he want’s out no matter the money.

  5. DrunkenBronc says:

Marsh has too much pride to dog a season and give up, plus next year is another year to put up big numbers for GMs across the league. Not playing hard and getting in trouble with the law in a contract year is suicide. He plays hard regardless of what team he’s on. Game against the colts proves that. Either he’s a bronco or a hawk next year.

  6. strandoftds says:

I wonder if Shanny would go after Marshall and we get pick #4? That would be interesting.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

As it was reported Shanny was going to let Marshall go had he remained the HC, obviously I don’t see the Skins as an option for Marshall.

  8. whitebronco#1 says:

    Cheers Beast!!

  9. royalbroncofan1 says:

The injury didn’t prompt the Chargers to draft Manning as the draft occurred the previous April. Rivers was already on the bench for his rookie year.

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

I was reffering to the BEASTs Bday, maybe I should’ve said Happy Late Bday. But what the Hell I gotta celebrate something tonight.LOL…..Good Post DB.

  11. DrunkenBronc says:

Ya shanny wouldve even out right released him if he didn’t get a trade offer. No skins for him

I am having fun saying I told you so to all the people who said marsh would be gone by middle of march. Raider fans especially.

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

Question to all:Do you think Gaffney or Royal can play the #1 WR spot, and beat the best CB’s in the NFL like the BEAST has done week in week out, year in and year out??? My vote is NO…If not our passing game is sure to be lacking, maybe we get our running game going next season, that will take some pressure off the passing game, but the way the NFL is nowadays, you still need a great passing game to win championships.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

rbf1, thanks for the correction, but the result is the same, they decided to go with Rivers because of how severe the injury was to Brees, so they let Brees go.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

No Skins for the BEAST,if we do trade him I still will like seeing his highlights,I hate the Deadskins.

  15. strandoftds says:

Wow i didn`t know that. Any way i still say keep him and sign him. I think it would be a big mistake to trade Marsh.

  16. brian_schneider says:

I think Gaffney has wiley vet skills and moves sort of like Stokely, they just have a feel for the DBs. Royal has the speed to burn the DBs and IMO is a serious deep threat for us. Marshall lacks vertical speed, but is tall and that is his way to beat DBs. I’m not saying Marshall isn’t good, but his height is his quality, speed is Royal’s, and being veterans help Stokely and Gaffney. To answer BFE92′s question is I think they could. The real answer is would Orton be able to put the ball on the money if they did beat the best of the best DBs.

  17. denverbro89 says:

I think we need a big RB, we have three guys we the same skill set, I would like to see Ryan Torain get another shot, watching that Cleveland game, he was dominating their defense until he got hurt, I think we should at least sign him, along with Selvin Young to the practice squad. I think they both, and Andre Hall were cut unfairly, at least give them the chance to battle it out to see who gets that #3 spot, instead of just giving the job to Arrington, who has yet to live up to what many thought he was going to be in the NFL. A problem for us last year was depth, when guys went down we had no really good back ups for them, Simms was terrible, Harris toe left a big hole, when Marshall was benched, Gaffney was the only real target at WR,, and even our back ups started getting hurt, and our lack of depth showed down the stretch.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

I don’t know about winning championships, I’d settle for getting into the playoffs first, LOL. I think there are many ways to get it done, with a great QB would be my first choice, and we don’t have that, so even if we have a great receiver I don’t think that would tilt the balance over, so far Marshall hasn’t made the playoffs that I know… If we have a balanced O, run and pass, would be our best bet, and we should be able to do that with or without Marshall is how I see it. The cons outweigh the pros with Marshall, sorry BFE, just my opinion.

  19. strandoftds says:

We need a power back like Gerhart.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Problem with Torain is he got multiple chances but could NEVER remain healthy, that’s why he is on no one’s roster. His ways of running upright with that type of body will get you nothing but trouble in this league, it wasn’t meant to be for him is my opinion.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Gerhart over Torain is not even a contest… Toby would do it for me.

  22. strandoftds says:

I heard that the Bronco`s went and had a look at Toby.

  23. strandoftds says:

    A private workout.

  24. BeastFromEast92 says:

No sorrys Baylin,I asked for opinions.

That’s the problem you spoke of though, can Orton have enough accuracy to get it to smaller and weaker WR’s??? no arguments today just opinions.LOL

  25. BeastFromEast92 says:

    I vote Toby too.

  26. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Sorry Brian said that.

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

Marshall made so many acrobatic catches that were bad passes, can Gaffney and Royal catch the same passes, one handed grabs, take it from the DB,catches like that, unless Orton gets better on accuracy they will have to,if the Beast leaves, just saying.

  28. royalbroncofan1 says:

No prob baylinor. Brees had a great last year with SD. I know there was some speculation whether SD would let him go, and once the injury happened, he was history.

  29. brian_schneider says:

Theoretically not having Marshall would force Orton, Quinn, and Brandstater to work on having much better accuracy.

  30. Big D 44 says:

I posted this on Thursday, I think. But apparently not everyone read it. Gerhart’s private workout is being rescheduled. He was set to do a private workout on Wednesday the 24th. I was told by inside sources that the Bronco coaches could not make it out because they were snowed in.
I do have an inside source on this one, so I will keep you all posted.

    PLAYOFFS 2010….
    GO BRONCOS….

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Thanks Big D 44

Brian we hope they get better on accuracy or we are in for a long season(if the Beast leaves) of course, hope he don’t.

  32. brian_schneider says:

I think if you take all of Orton’s smarts, Quinn’s mobility, Brandstater’s arm, and get them to have awesome accuracy we just found our next franchise QB. LOL! We just have to figure out how to fit them all into one uniform. LOL!!! Sorry, just posting garbage.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Actually it’s not garbage it’s very accurate, other than I would say Orton’s experience, not smarts, that would be a fantastic combo, the 6 million dollar man.

  34. BeastFromEast92 says:

Charles Davis, analyst of NFL Network has us taking Sergio Kindle OLB at the #11 pick in the Mock.Although I’d love to have his explosiveness opposite Doom,I don’t see it happening, since we are paying Ayers 5 mil to start at OLB next season.

  35. griff77302003 says:

I was a Orton supporter last year but his arm strength, and long ball are in my opinion lacking and from what I’ve seen and granted it isn’t a lot Quinn’s arm is not that strong either. I’m not sure we can get the ball thrown for more than 20 yards consistently. which kinda negates our great wr’s

  36. TheRoyalBeast says:

Awww MAN…Did i miss the brandon Marshall session :-( , cuz i had a couple of words for the haters :-) lmao….ahh well.. lol

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Too late to the dance, LOL.

  38. footballMANIAC says:

When did Marshall turn down $9.5M per year? I never heard about that. That’s what he WANTED.

  39. TheRoyalBeast says:

    football maniac,

speculation just liek everything else. They say a contract was offered and someone said it was 9.5, proably the same person that said shanny would have cut him (without trying to get ANYTHING in return, get real), the same people that keep saying Marshall wants out.

All ive heard him say with his own mouth is that he wants to be a career bronco. I am more inclined to believe what i hear with my own ears than what so called experts speculate.

If Marshall said he didn’t wanna be a broncos, I would suck it up and say goodbye, but since ive never heard him say it. still want him here and still think he has improved his character.

And I agree, theres no way Marshall wil play 3 game sand say he doesnt wanna play anymore or w/e other ridiculous thing woody paige said. Are you kidding me, this man has a set list of goals he wants to hit. He wants to be one of the best at his position. I think that is the one thing he values over money…

Sorry had to get that rant out…Have a nice day :-) lmao

  40. sndvl says:

Goosfabra….Marshall said he wanted to be a Denver Bronco. TRB, its all speculation. ALL OF IT. I have never seen a player and coach spilt the fanbase in half. And most of the McD supporters want Marshall gone, and vice versa.
If McD lets Marshall go for anything less than a first round pick, I will be sad and happy. Sad to see our team stripped of a probowl player in consecutive years. Happy because it will be another nail in the proverbial coffin for McD, and he will be one day closer to being fired!!!

  41. brian_schneider says:

I’d really like to know what a coach like Bill Cowher or Tony Dungy would do with a player in Marshall’s situation.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, if the 9.5 mil a year long term reported by Klis and Woody backing him up on it in front of the entire Bronco Country was total bs, you can rest assured Marshall or his agent would of addressed the matter to straighten the press out on it, their silence about it speaks volume, get real goes both ways here, just saying.

  43. brian_schneider says:

That contract must’ve not been enough money for Marshall or there were too many “clauses” in it.

  44. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Baylin,

FYI, The get real was in parenthesis for the “Shanahan was gonna cut Marshall without getting ANYTHING in return”…a guy that just came off a pro bowl…that deserves a get real…..

  45. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, so I take it your silence about my point has you at a loss for words? No way I believe that, LOL, you surely can come up with something to explain their silence about it.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Marshall wanted more upfront money and they tried to give him a contract without much upfront money. So that’s what I heard, but like you guys said it’s all speculation,I don’t see why it’s such a big secret,if management has nothing to hide, why not let the fans know what’s going on,that’s all I’m saying. Why do we have to speculate if they are trying to screw him or not,it’s a joke if you ask me.They need to clear the air on the subject,so we can all know the truth and get over it.The whole damn ordeal is speculation, and as fans I think we have the right to know the truth,Marshall fan or not,we are all Bronco fans and shouldn’t have to go on speculation.IMHO

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

And it’s almost BeerThirty in the East.GIT-R-DONE

  48. footballMANIAC says:

I never saw these reports. And I pay close attention to Broncos news.

  49. baylinorcrush says:

Getting ready for the Pub here myself, cheerio!!!

  50. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Baylin,

I cant talk about why Marshall and his agent haven’t refuted that. All i know is that i initally heard they tried a deal, deals were never made. but this 9.5 mil thing just sprung up. And i dunno if it was klis or woody that said it, either way, they both don’t like Marshall (so much for being an unbiased reporter) and probably whoever who said it first, i am guess klis, is who woody is citing as his source without know who klis source is. But just cuz Klis is a Bronco beat reporter, he knows everything. Anyway, whatever, if its true and they felt it was an unfair contract, you negotiate till its fair.
