One in a Row and Good Progress

August 21st, 2011 - 9:16am by mark_cooper

Baby steps is the key to Pre-season and I saw a number of them. I had a buddy txt me hours before the game that he heard the QB lineup was going to change…..Curious on your take??

Liked the emphasis on the running of the ball and on defense and our ones did a nice job against their ones. Our depth is worrisome but there’s a ton of guys getting cut in a few weeks and then again prior to the final roster I bet we see some pickups and/or a trade. Like I’ve mentioned with the way training camp has changed/restructured there’s some hidden gems in these camps that either aren’t getting reps or may have been dinged early so were slow to start and may help us if we can find a few.

What’s your take on Preseason so far. Late weeks blogs were pretty funny.

Curious what you have to say on the different fronts??

I like what our O-line is doing (1st team O-line) of course. If our O-line can continue to keep Kyle out of harms way we should do fine. Remember, Orton is not a mobile QB whatsoever.

But I`m entitled to scream murder since I`m Italian. LOL

    Just kidding guys.

If Orton goes down, so does the season. At that point, you’ve got to go with the guy with more upside – assuming you think he can handle it. Ergo, my pick would be Tebow. Quinn’s another of those guys who got messed up by playing too much too early. He looks a lot better now, but you’ve got to wonder if he’ll always be gun-shy if you bang him up a bit. I have no such concerns about Tebow…

  5. strandoftds says:

    Kearly37, I 2nd that. All in favor say I.

  6. royalbroncofan1 says:

that’s right strand – we know Orton is a statue of liberty back there…lol.

kearly37- I’m not going to make an arguement for either TT or BQ.
I DO want the QB who gives us the best chance to win. One has alot of work to do and the other remains to be seen, if he’s recovered from PTS in the NFL, as you mentioned. I’m in favor of TT but it’s obvious he’s not where Coach Fox needs him to be… at this point.

Season could not be totally lost if we were to lose Orton and one of these two stepped in. If Broncos early defensive play is any indication of what’s to come, we could be in a position to make playoffs, so at that point we do need our second best man to step in. (provided we don’t trade one). At this point though, that’s all hypothetical and irrelevant.

What the triumvirate decides remains to be seen.

This just in, oakland raiders select Terrelle Pryor in the 3rd round of the supplemental draft today. The raiders do not get a 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft.

kyle orton was named starter for the raiders game, today by fox

I’m getting a better sense of what my season record prediction will be this season….but I’m not sold on it just quite yet.

  10. strandoftds says:

And Fox has not named the backup just yet.

  11. kearly37 says:

I don’t think he’s going to name a backup. That’s the nice thing about the change in the day-game rosters – they don’t have to designate an “emergency” 3rd QB. They’re both going to be active for every game and he’s probably not going say any more about the backup situation unless something happens to Orton and he has to.

  12. kearly37 says:

Record prediction? The only record I care about at this point is 1-0. I’m so sick of seeing the Raiders beat us in our own stadium. Besides, it would be awfully nice to go to the game in Oakland (yes, I live in NoCal and brave the Coliseum every year) with a win against them already…

Bay I should however retort because I was specifically mention by the “SEC alum”. To even begin to insinuate that the Gators won or loss simply because tim Tebow was the quarterback was asinine. Louis Murphy and Harvin were starting recivers on that team and the last I checked both play well in the NFL, the POUNCEY TWINS were playing for him on the line. Riley Cooper who is currently on the Eagles, the starting Tight End of the Patriots was also on that squad. So let us just take a quick count shall we, 6 of 11 starters on offense, to my knowledge are in teh NFL. It was not Tebow and a bunch of nobodies he was SURROUNDED by talent, which is what happens in the college ranks. The NFL however, your talent must stand alone. You are passionate about Tebow, I am passionate about this team. I have had many occasions when I stood out and differed from the opinions of al, for example, when the team started fast under McD, I was one of the FEW voices at that time who said we were not headed in the right direction. I call it like I see it. Tebow is not NFL ready. Could he be in the future…who knows. The sadder part is, even if Orton and Quinn leave, I believe a majority of the QB’s coming out in this class are better than Tebow and I would rather have them. Does he deserve credit for what he did in college, sure he does on the college level. You still did not dispute the fact he is 1-2 as a starter and his only win came against a team with a defense that is as bad as Denver’s used to be. If he is a ‘winner” why didn’t he win then? You did mention the fact he has been in the system just as long as BQ, if he is a winner and superior why is he not outperforming Quinn? This is not his rookie season as some people often suggest, he was a part of the team last year. This is his second year in the SAME system. When does he get better, and why should our team suffer as he tries to “figure it out”

  14. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Carnage the reason Tebow believers get mad as you is because no matter what he does, you guys refuse to give him credit, but any false move, he is bashed. He won 1 of 3 last year true … taking no first team snaps until the week before. Orton won 3 out of 13, I believe its a lower percentage/ratio. And the last 2 games he (the team) was within winning distance. And this is comparing him in his then rookie season to a 7 year vet. It takes a whole team to win … same goes when Orton is in the game, but the fact that the young guys win percentage last year with what we have to work with was better (Tebow 1 of 3) (Orton 1 of 4) assuming my math is correct.

Nobody who wants Tebow to start says he is better … thats what most orton fans, or anti tebowist, or the let him sit crew don’t get. No one is saying he is better … but he showed he can play against STARTERS in the NFL last year …. and while he had alot of rocky road, the kid did well enough for a guy who hasn’t reached his ceiling, which Orton has.

He won in college but u say its because it was college and he was surrounded by talent, he won against Texans but u say its because their D was the worst … Orton was the same guy who threw how many interceptions for a TD agaisnt the sorry Cards D?

I am cool if Orton starts … truly I am … where is it going? dunno … I say no where cuz come the end of the season he is more than likely gone, and we are left searching again when we coulda already given Tebow 1 years expereince (Quinn is at the end of his contract). But like I always say, who am i to argue with a HC, Halll of fame QB and a GM that makes alot of money to do what he does. Anyway, we are all Bronco believers, only player i was ever a real super fan of was Brandon Marshall and everyone here knows how I was lmao.

Bay: I want to ask you a question. Do you sit in front of the computer all day & read all the blogs & comment on them? If you do there are alot of people that would love to have your job. Most people don’t have that kind of time because they have other things to do.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

No, I usually blog for a couple hours every morning, then I check from time to time, like right now, just seeing if anything of interest pops up. I’m retired and the Broncos is my #1 hobby, my boat the “orange crush” my #2 and other than that I still have my wife and one of the grand kid little 18 months old cutie girl who has been living with us since the beginning of the year, dog, cat, pool, nice yard, lawn, flowers, lots of stuff to always keep me busy not mentioning the pubs. Yes I am very lucky and I know it.

Amen to 1nOnlyTRB post @209 pm.

I will let the whole, if you love Tebow you must not be a real Bronco fan comment go. I really do hope I read that out of context the first time.

Looking at who is Pro-Orton and Pro-Tebow it is seems to me that there are more similarities than differences. Similarities are that the Orton fans all have ties to him from Chicago, or something other than pure Bronco ties.

The Tebow camp hails from Florida or other fans like myself, that just believe in him. A belief that he will be the QB the DENVER BRONCOS have been waiting for to lead them. To say, fans as myself put him over the Broncos, again I hope I am reading these things out of context, because it is absurd.

I honestly don’t care how many “new fans” we gain because of one player. I welcome anyone who wants to pull for the Broncos. I don’t care if it’s cause someone likes the colors. I know I was born a Broncos fan and will die a Broncos fan, no sweat off my back. Being judgmental on who is a real fan or not, not my cup o’ tea.

  18. mark_cooper says:

Bay, you kinda said it all there until, jesteroftortuga chimmed in and he may rival you here. Liked your comments and did like Doom and Von on the corners.

Years ago, Seattle had two big DT’s (don’t rememeber their names) and they really brought it off the outside corners every play and turned everything inside to the nose who was Joe Nash if I remember right and he made ALL-Pro just falling off blocks and sacking the QB, so we may see some of that.

Funny how there’s such a uproar like you guys/gals mentioned on who’s going to be the backup…funny…only in Denver. The press guys drive me crazy about this time of year because now they are reaching for stories or making stuff up to sell papers or keep people reading….think about it…must be a tough job…being that creative. LOL

Seen guys get show cased for a trade in Pre-season too….hmmmmm? Did see someone mention that as I have before but gotta give Quinn credit and I HONESTLY am happy fo him because he’s paid his dues AND I like that all three are keeping this professio…nice change of pace versus others around the league over the years. I real respect that too!!

One comment was made that sticked….it was only the Bills??? So maybe we be careful calling it a Playoff season :o ) yet…even as much as I’d like to see it, we have a lot of work to do and need DEPTH. Hoping we can get some during the cutdowns.

    Speaking of Seattle…Saturday night baby!!!!

    Any predictions or score thoughts?
