Boss Bailey has the speed we can use at the linebacker position. Niko Koutouvides should fit in the middle just fine and get D.J. Williams back where he can let it all hang out.
Marlon McCree and Marquand Manuel give us plenty to look at and a future in the secondary when John Lynch hangs it up. I’d like to see Domonique Foxworth stay, but it’s all business.
Keary Colbert might find a nice change of scenery here and a system he might flourish in with Mike’s offense and Jay Cutler’s arm.
There’s more to come but to date I like everything I see and you know how it goes. We’ll all know more once we see them in camp and preseason.
What are you all thinking so far?? Let’s touch base every week or two and see how it all works out through the offseason. Camp will be here before we know it.

I like what we’ve done so far this off season on defense. I think we’ve made great strides in the improvement direction. Chargers and their big mouth small talent qb (Rivers) should beware, we’re coming after them. (can’t say anything about Tomlinson, he’s legit.)
Not sure if I like Colbert just yet. I know he played for a bad team with one of the best receivers in the game (steve smith) but some of that had to trickle down or rub off on him right…? It’s alarming for me to see a guy catch just 37 passes in 24 games for just 388 yards and ZERO Touchdowns. That’s less production than colts rookie Anthony Gonzales who, believe it or not, is the colts 4th pass catcher behind Wayne, Harrison, and Clark (…yes Dallas Clark) He also only played in 12 games each of the last two seasons which tells me one of 2 things.
1. He has injury problems
2. He wasn’t good enough to start for a terrible team.
These numbers don’t show me that he is a good acquisition. We need to take care of that after taking care of our O-line in my opinion.
i just got a look at this weeks Pro-day workouts:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/story;jsessionid=86271CBEFEFE93112FE7CD890BF9041D?id=09000d5d806b4a39&template=with-video&confirm=true
did you guys see WR Chaz Schilens’ (out Sandiego State) work out?? the guys they say thr guy is(6’4”) and he ran the forty in 4.38-4.39 and had a 43-inch vertical with a 10′ 3 -inch jump..WOW!..thats impressive.. these numbers are close to Calvin Johnsons’s freakish numbers last year…i dont knw about the his hands but this guy could be a steal in the later rounds or could be free agent signing…..idk..
and this guy,,Vernon Gholston is a beast…he is faster than most linebackers in the draft (with 4.58 in the 40/ wid a 42-inch vertiucal) and he’s a DE..plus he had the most reps of the DL…but we still have Moss and Crowder…
Did you all hear that DeSean Jackson from cal has a new mentor. I think you all know this guy, his name is JERRY RICE. If this kid catches the eye of the best WR ever to play the game then he must be really good. We should seriously think about drafting him at # 12. He is probably a reach but Jerry could help take his game to an all new level!!!!
I love the addition of Boss because he will not just bring speed but also moral with brother Champ. Pretty soon they’ll be competing for picks and sacks. Also I think D.J. should stay in the middle, he did hold things doen if you look at his stats. Granted Al leaves huge shoes to fill but give D.J. another year under a different defensive coordinator. He’ll get the job done with a strong OLB’s like Boss. I’m torn in the draft, bot our D and O lines need work. I would say make a trade up in the draft for someone like Dorsey. However having invested so much already in the D line i feel like we should try for another offensive weapon. Who knows, maybe even go for McFadden.
Thanks to Oldsouthstander for his comment about Elam, I couldn’t agree more.
Paymah is playing great, why do you think KC made a play for him ?
Selvin Young shouldn’t go anywhere, seeing him run in person, he is “very” talented.
selvin should get the starting job next year
I really like all the signings so far. Denver really shored up the defense with a full LB core, now, and have also made temporary fixes to the safety position which I like. Now they can concentrate on offense. I think first, to finish with the defense, they should try and get both Orpheus Roy from Cleveland, and Dewayne Robertson from New York if they can (I hope they can still keep Foxworth, though). Then, draft an OL at number 12, maybe Clady or Williams, or whoever is still available. In the second I’d like to see maybe a starting WR get drafted (I am starting to like Jackson), depending on who falls that far. Then, draft FB Owen Schmidt in the 4th if he falls that far, if not, draft a DT, then a RB later on. Next year they will be able to concentrate on the safety position. I like it so far. Or, something else to think about, Denver could trade away next year’s 1st round draft pick to get another 1st round pick this year if they see someone else they really want to draft in the first round. Chris Myers might go this year, unfortunately, so maybe look for Denver to address that problem, as well.
It would be kind of a cool thing to get a couple of Vanderbilt guys that Cutler is familiar with like getting Williams in the first and hoping Earl Bennet falls to the second, which he might.
wat do you think about glen martinez at #2 wr. I think he has the speed and the ability.
Sounds like the Broncos are trying to acquire DeWayne Robertson w/draft picks, and that they are no longer trying to trade Foxworth but another player instead. Let’s hope that other player isn’t Paymah. Chris Myers is shopping around. If he leaves, that could be a problem. Unfortunately, keeping him might mean paying way too much. If not, he should definitely be kept. Without Nalen and Hamilton (whose playing days may soon be over) the Broncos only have four experienced OL (Pears, Holland, Myers and Kuper). They need to keep all of these and add two more quality prospects via the draft. Fortunately, this draft is deep in OL.
I do like Martinez, at least from what I saw. I am not sure if he could be the number two guy, given he hasn’t played a whole lot yet, but we’ll see. You know, Denver really should bring in someone via the draft anyway, just as insurance. Not to mention the competition aspect.
rofl u guys think selvin should start just like u guys wanted mike bell to b the starter, look what happened to him! selvin sucks. ic how he did
1st off…Williams still has another year on his contract, and detroit’s gonna get rid of the one player who might actually be able to get them more than 6 wins. Second, i know its hard fellow bronco fans, but be patient with travis henry. up until that colts game, he WAS the leagues leading rusher. and aside from 07′ he’s average more than 1,000 yards with the bills, and the titans. Henry is the real deal!! His power and ability to make SMART reads on the field makes him the perfect back for our zone-blocking scheme. (WHEN HEALTHY!!). We’ll be aiight in 08-09. Look for Marshall to make the pro-bowl like he deserved.
Dear letdamansmoke,
How do regard T. Henry as a pass blocker? What do you make of his fumbling at San Diego?
*also: Is it a “SMART read” when he sees the backer coming and just gets run over a split second before Cutler gets hit? I do appreciate your optimism, though. Patience IS a virtue.
I agree, T. Henry needs some work in the protection game. (We could always put in another back for those passing situations.) And aside from the raider game, i’d have to say that his fumbling has improved.
i think we should get darnell jackson. he just became a FA. from the 49ers. he would be great at #1 or #2 WR. tell wat yall think about that and i know we are trying that DE from the jets lets hope we dont give up foxworth for him
It sounds like the deal for Robertson just fell through. I think Denver is still interested, though, but now the Jets seem to want to keep Robertson so, maybe they can still get Roye from the Browns. They need some free agents so they shouldn’t have to use their draft picks on the D-line this time around. I think Jackson would be great, but we’ll see.
I THINK YOU GUYS NEED TO REALLY PAY ATTENSION TO THE SALARY CAP AND REALIZE THE REASON WE HAVENT SIGNED THE BIG FREE ANGENT IS BECAUSE OF THE SALARY CAP AND MONZ IS RIGHT WE ARE STILL IN THE CHARGERS DIVISON SO THAT TELLS US WE NEED TO IMPROVE ALL AROUND WE SCORED 0 TDS AGAINST THEM AND LET THEM SCORE ALL OVER US IF WE SWEEP THE SEASON SERIS AGAINST THEM THEN WE KNOW THAT SHANNYS NOT OUT OF HIS MIND AND THAT NOONE SEEMS TO REMEMBER THAT LAST YEAR ARE WHOLE DRAFT WAS ABOUT THE DL AND ALL OF THOSE GUYS ARE RETURNING THEY HAVE A GREAT UPSIDE BUT INJURIES KEPT THEM SIDELINED BUT LOOK IF ONE OF THIS FREE AGENT WR TURN INTO A SOLID #2 THEM ARE OFFENSE WILL BE SET I THINK WE NEED TO DRAFT CALDY FROM BOISE STATE OL TO GIVE CUTLER MORE TIME TO THROW THE BALL AS WELL AS BLOCK FOR YOUNG I THINK THAT AT THE #2 SPOT AT WIDEOUT WE NEED A BURNER! OUR CORNERS ARE SET I HOPE WE KEEP FOXWORTH!!! SAFETIES ARE SOLID McCREE MISSES ALOT OF TACKLES BUT HE CAN WORK ON THAT LBS ARE GONNA BE EXPOLSIVE OR BAD I LOVE DJ BACK AT HIS NATURAL POSITION (HE IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE A MLB!!) NIKO I THINK IS GONNA SURPRIZE ALL OF YOU DOUBTERS AND BOSS WILL REVIVE HIS CAREER HERE I THINK THAT ARE DL GRANTED NO INJURIES WILL RANK WAAAAYYYYYYYY BETTER THAN 31 AGAINST THE RUN AND NOW OFFENSE…PROTECT CUTLER AND GIVE HIM GUYS TO THROW TO AND HE WILL FILL ELWAYS SHOES I PROMISE THAT. RBS YOUNG IS GONNA HAVE A 12-1500 YD SEASON AGAIN IF HE CAN STAY INJURY FREE WIDEOUTS MARSHALL IS A BEAST PLAN AND SIMPLE WE HAVE OUR SLOT AND WE NEED A #2 TIGHT ENDS ARE BETTER THAN ANYONE KNOWS OL CAN USE HELP. SO IN THE DRAFT I EXPECT AND OL THEN A DL AND A BURNER LATE IN THE DRAFT ALONG WITH ROLE PLAYERS
well said Bronco’s Fan89…….ur right about the set DL and our need to draft an OT like Clady in the first round,,,,this season will be Moss’, Crowder and Thomas’ time to let it lose….jst like Mario Williams,,
and we do need a tackle like Clady,,,doesnt matter if we acquire a burner or see potential in Selvin,,we still need someone to give Cutler enough time to throw deep and someone to block for Young or Henry…
dumervile should also have a great season. hes a sack master.

why didnt they resign elam! he is the best kicker ever. period. i know hes old but he is still better then 3/4ths of t he guys out there!
Oh how nice it is to bleed ORANGE AND BLUE. This is a great time of year because we can look at every move the Broncos make and think it is going to be the next thing that sends them to the Super Bowl, like letting Jason Elam go, OUCH!!!!!!!
Good Luck Jason, thank you for the fifteen years you gave us.
You guys and gals are on fire. I missed the boat here thinking things wouldn’t be as active in the off-season but I was wrong and I’ll jump back on the wagon and let’s GET BUSY!!!! Go to the next post and let’s get going.
They need to go for chris henry! 6-4 200lbs! he and b marsh would compliment each other so well.
Yeah, let’s go for another gangster who will blemish the Broncos record. Let’s see, first, Maurice Clarett carries illegal fire arms, then Sauerbraun beats up a truck driver, not to mention Travis Henry smoking marijuana and having 8 motherless kids. But that’s not enough, is it? Let’s get Travis Henry so that he can get suspended for the whole year and just take up salary cap room. NO THANK YOU!
Ok, in the third 2 last line i meant Chris Henry, not Travis.
