With Henry gone, we have:
Selvin Young
Michael Pittman
Ryan Torian
Andre Hall
Anthony Aldridge
Plenty of depth and ability in that crew. I like the group. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or thumbs down. I agree with Mike. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. We have the depth, and if we can keep healthy this year, we should make some progress on last season’s record.

thr Broncos
The Broncos will win the West this year. I believe this because we addressed the areas that needed help and we brought in the neccessary players to make our team much better form the draft and free-agency. Robertson will shine this year for us because the JETS weren’t using him properly at all and he couldn’t perform the way he is able to. Thet (JETS) uses the 3-4 defense which hindered Robertson. He is a 4-3 tackle and will show everyone what he can do this year. He is excited to be playing in this system and can’t wait to prooduce for us ( The BRONCOS ).Marcus Thomas was playing out of shape last year . He wasn’t expecting to play football last year since he was put off of the team at Florida. He didn’t think any team would take a chance with him because of the problems he had while at Florida so when he was released, he stopped practicing, and stopped working out. He was in terrible shape when he got drafted and really wasn’t prepared to be playing football. he was out of football for nearly a year prior to being drafted. Now he has been practicing and playing for a year and feels great. His conditioning is very good, his stregnth is wonderful, his quickness is almost back and his comfort with the game is near where it use to be. He is more comfortable with the scheme and he’s reacting without having to think much. He along with Robertson will bolster our mid-front and will make ouur run Defense 3 times better than it was last year. Dumerville should start along with either Moss or Ekuban. The front four will rank in the top 10 this season no doubt, may-be even top 5. The improvement to the front four will help the linebackers not to mention moving D.J. back to the wil position where he killed his rookie campaign. Boss Bailey at the sam position is an improvement . He is use to that position and his speed will allow him to cover any T.E. out there . The mike position is a question for me but I do believe NIKO will do a great job there. He was back up in Seattle behind a Pro-Bowler and knows the position very well . I trust Shanahan’s decision to bring him here and to start him in our Defense .He will be protected by our tackles anyway so he should be able to dominate the way Ray Lewis did here in Baltimore when we had Sam Aadams and Tony Siragusa . I am not saying Niko is a Ray Lewis but being protected by tackles will allow him to fly around and make plays . The strongest unit now…..The Defensive Backfield . It’s no secret that we have one of the top tandems in the league and that was without a good D-Line . We will rank amongst the top 3 now that we have a very good D-Line . Lynch has been working more and harder than ever to win the strong safety spot and to prove that he still “has it” and is Pro-Bowl worthy . He is very disappointed and hurt because of people wanting him to retire and say that he doesn’t “have it” any-more and can’t cover . He say he will prove every-one that thinks that wrong and he knows his time has not come and gone . He also say that the competition on the Defense is fierse and that every player that starts on the 2008-2009 Denver Broncos will have earned that spot . Lynch say that this is the best team he’s seen since he’s been here . The BRONCOS WILL WIN the WEST !!!!!!BRONCOS WILL WIN the WEST in 2008-2009. The Chargers reign is over and it is the BRONCOS time NOW. Get on the boat now if you want to be on the winning Team !
Love the positive outlook and confidence. That is how I feel, and that is just the defense. Our offensive will be much improved too. No crybaby receiver, better and healthier o-line. An abundance of talented wide receivers. Selvin young should be a beast with a good o-line, look what he did with our not so good o-line. A healthier stronger QB. And no more distractions with a troubled runningback.
I agree with the decision as i said before but I still think instead of Pittman We should have invested in Shuan Alexander with his speed and power he is a great fit.
The best group of RB’s I can recall in quite some time. I think we have to wait and see who will carry the rock but for now I have to agree Selvin Young has the stuff to be the starter. The four behind him are all very skilled and talented I’m curious to see if we can keep all five? If we put either Torain or Alridge on the practice squad I’m afraid we’ll lose them. I’m excited about Alridge pushing Eddie Royal on Punt & Kick-off returns. Can’t wait for the first preseason game.
shaun alexander would be the worst back to ever put on a denver uniform. He’s big and has good vision but he tip toes isnt the best receiving option, dosnt run with power cant break takles did i mention slow, and old i mean when old running backs loose what made them good theres no coming back. Its not like a 25 year old who can reinvent themselfs like thomas jones shaun is done
And lets calm down these coments about winning the AFC east, the chargers are heavy favorites as they should be didnt they go undefeated in the division and by mostly blow outs…. or was it just us that they turned into their personal whipping boy
shaun alexander would have been awsome in the system..right out of college… he ran perfect for that…but now he sucks!! anyways…..give the running back job to YOUng or Hall and unless torain comes thru like TD and steals the show…..but we had a much better O line back then too….this years O line might cause us sum issues!! hope not!! 1
Have I missed something? I don’t remember any stories about any of the Broncos 2008 draft picks being signed. Are they just not swetting it or do holdouts loom on the horizon? I certainly hope that none of the holdout. They can’t afford to miss any training camp time.
We need to start honing a feature back. That guy is Selvin Young or Ryan Torain, forget about the others, we don’t need alot of backs if we have one great one. Look at the chargers, you hear about LT or Michael Turner(now a Falcon), or the chiefs with LJ or Priest Holmes, the great rushing teams don’t need alot of mediocre backs when they have a great one or franchise back. The team needs to pick the back of the future kind of like how they chose Jay Cutler to be the franchise quarterback. Again, the guy is Selvin Young or Ryan Torain, the rest of those backs will never have 1000 yard rushing seasons, lets be realistic.
I agree that the future back will be Young or Torain… but you cant just eliminate Hall or Aldrige because you havent seen them in NFL pads (Hall =not enough/ Aldrige =not at all) So i think come the 2nd week or so of regular season is when we’ll find our franchise running back
M.C. The Uselees
Please go jump off a cliff lots of fans get on here to have positive conversation with fans of like minds, if you just want to trash the team use seem to cheer then change the tude otherwise go chill with the raiders or chiefs fans you uncle tom.
What am I talking about ??
I’m talking about a habitual woman beater.
His ex said that he physically abused her 30-40 times.
Everywhere he goes, he beats women, he loses his job, gets sent out of town.
Everyone that knows me “knows” I will give a man a break on his first offense, from there……better walk the straight and narrow.
This man is a repeat offender…….big time.
He doesn’t deserve the planet, much less a Bronco uniform.
P.S. I am very happy with the young men (RB) on this squad, they deserve a shot, this guy doesn’t.
Well I have to say I was happy to see Travis go. I was actually happy to see him hurt last year. It made way for Selvin to showcase his skills. And if nothing else, he impressed me.
Now what I think will happen this year is hard because there is a lot of talent. But I do believe Selvin Young will start. He was meant for Denvers zone-blocking scheme. I don’t think he’s the next Terrell Davis, but I hope I eat my words. Also I’m excited to see what Ryan Torrain can bring to the team. Andre we all know is very talented so he might breakout this year and who knows, maybe Pittman will flourish in Denver but only time will tell.
All we can do is put our trust in Shanahan, he can get us there again!!!
hmmm go jump off a cliff.. thats real positive talk so now your adding hypocrite to that list of stupidity, lack of objectivity, and ignorance of facts.
What about last season says we need to be ra ra about the broncos, champ bailey got beat by second teir receivers…(bernard berrian) for a game winning touch down, dre bly got beat by a rookie, james jones for like a 50 yard fade route, thats 2 games we lost and for the most part at the hands of our “STELLAR SECONDARY”.
We scored 6 points in two games against the chargers is that somthing to celebrate, nope not to me, to me when in 2 games all you can get is 6 points on a team they’ve turned you into a whipping boy.
We split the series with the raiders and they’ve got better, as have we but is splitting a series wit a team that drafted in the top 5 any thing to brag about….. ummm im gona say no.
We got blown out by the lions and texans, two 8-8 teams.
how do you have a completly positive conversation about this team with facts like these to deal with. Is this how all u hippies think about every thing, annoy the facts refuse to be objective and keep that same train of thought
Im simply presenting facts how bout you and your happy thought hippies grow up and get out of your oarnge and blue fairy land and take a look at how where fitting in with the rest of the nfl. Im a real fan because i can look at the facts and still not loose any love or enthusiasm for the broncos and have hope that they will turn it around.
ok superchop,
did my homework. all I was asking was who you were talking about in reference to a woman beater, because travis henry doesn’t seem to get along with his ladies, and I now know you are talking about Michael Pitman, who got arrested a few years back for ramming a car off the road…. a Benz, which had his wife in it. I didn’t know he played for the cardinals, but anyways, all that to say, you got a point….. hmmmmm.
Ok this whole thing is getting out of hand… this is about running backs and who will get the role this coming year… not about a lady beater or like M.C. said basically “All the people that are excited about next season and are stoked that broncos have done a lot to get depth and now know that Jay had a problem last year that will be fixed and we now actually have a lot of people fighting for that starting role is [stupid] to be excited about…. Now im stoked about all that stuff… so im a hippie?…. Come on M.C. what are you talking about?
ANY WHO…. Young starts…. with Pittman and Torain doing stuff as the backs to sub in…. thats how it most likely will be… But wouldnt be suprised if Hall sparked or even Aldrige did some good stuff and got up there on the list…
I think you hit it right on broncobailey, but the question i want to know is does anyone think we have a franchise running back in this group? if so, who continues on with the team as the starter after this year? I know its hard to say, i just want opinions. And m.c., how many players did we have on IR???? And Champ isn’t superman, he can’t do his best job if he has to constantly worry about the run? It will be way better this year!
Hey Cisco,
I think we do have a franchise RB. Actually we might have more than one. I think we’ve seen the Broncos make an attempt to find that main go to guy each year. However, those season’s usually ended in an injury to that main player. On the upside, because of that injury we filled in with a guy that gave great effort and did some nice things.
In the end we seemed to pile up on that #1 spot for the upcoming year. Meaning we had the #1 starter that got injured the year prior competiting with the guy that filled in for him.
You raise a good point. One I actually have thought of myself. When we’ll we see the injury free, hard, cut back runner we saw in TD. I’m not comparing our RB’s to TD but it seems like we’ve moved to RB by committee. Now is it by choice or circumstances.
We’ve got some real quality RB’s on this roster. I sometimes wonder which one flourishes if they get the reps? I don’t think it’s wrong to think Torain can be that guy. We also know Young is capable of doing some special things. I’m not sure. What I do know is Shanny is going to be doing great in the running game this year! I too though would like to see that 1 goto guy!
Great question Cisco!
COOP, DAMN GOOD TO HEAR FORM YOU SIR!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
I think we’ve made some great off-season accusations, but we still have some spaces to fill. Let’s face it, Dre Bly and Domonique Foxworth can’t cover against good QB’s. (for instance, Brett Favre, monday night, BLY!)
What about picking up Ty Law? He’s a pretty good shut down corner who’s still on the free agent list. He’s had mostly great seasons his whole career, but no one seems to want him.
Next, I know the running game is gonna be great this year. Selvin should start with Pittman as a 4th and 1, goal line type of back. Hall and Torain should get an occasional carry on third and second downs.
Thirdly, how come everyone is ignoring Darrel Jackson? He’s had a way better career than Keary Colbert. Starting Wr’s- Marshall, Jackson, and Stokley. I think Marshall and Cutler are going to connect great this year and have an amazing season.
On special teams, I definately think Eddie Royal should be the number 1 KR, with Andre Hall as the number 2.
Linebackers, Boss is gonna be great. I think he has something to strive for now, cuz no one wants to hear that their brother is better than them. Not saying that he’s gonna be better than Champ, but has a possibility at Aloha.
Next, whoever said that crap about Lynch SHUT UP! you know he didnt have to come back this year, and he’d be way better than some rookie!
And MC, youre a gay retard! True fans dont say, MY TEAM’S GONNA SUCK LIKE LAST YEAR! you say you have optimism, YEAH RIGHT!
boss shut the hell up, never did i say where gonna suck, I dont think were that bad, i think weve takin steps to improve our team and looking at the schedule and our team in an objective way i see at least 10 wins, we should at worst of all worst if a disaster happens and we loose to the patriots finish 9-7.
Now does 10 wins win you a division ummm if your in the afc east maybe. And theres no way of telling how much weve closed gap on the chargers untill we play them. I hope for a super bowl, i beleive jay cutler is the truth the light and the way, that some day he will get one. But to buy your tickets for the super bowl right now is just stupid.
There are a lot of questions that have to be answered: Will our run D improve or be like the last 2 years
Is Selvin young the answer at running back I hope so but i hoped tatum bell would be Clinton portis #2, but we see how that turned out.
Can T schef stay healthy.
Will we finally be able to get pressure on the QB with out blitzing I think with the players added, and with the ones we have getting better and healthy, and with Elvis being Elvis i think that should happen, will the secondary perform to their potential, hopefully with better play up front well see secondary play un matched by past years. And if we played more bump and run more often which would play to bly strengths and champs as well. that could happen
Whos gona be our #2 receiver we gota boat load of #3’s but will any one step up and take the #2. Actually thats the least of our concerns if selvin steps up and sheffler stays healthy, and of course wit Marshall that should be enough.
And We have to get in the end zone we gota score touchdowns and stop settling for feild goals.
Im not saying that these things are gona make us a bad team, every team has issues, but if were gona take steps to get closer to the super bowl we gota address some of these things. im just saying lets at least get into training camp before we start submitin pro bowl votes.
i wish people would lay off bly about that green bay game, am i the only 1 who remembers that he hurt his shoulder earlier in the game makeing an int? i know your shoulder doesnt stop you from running but ive had my shoulder dislocated a couple of times and when its bad enough it makes the rest of your body useless.
im not saying i believe that bly is gonna make that play everytime if he wasnt hurt but i do think his mind was on the pain of his shoulder and not that he should have dropped back a bit because of that wr beeing faster. i think bly is in our system filling his role just right. hes no champ but hes not useless. the thing that kills me is i was watching something right befor the drat and they were saying how cromartie is 1 of the best cbs in the league right now and that hes better then champ. dont get me wrong the guy aint bad but just because you pick off maning a couple of times in the game doesnt put you in the weight class of a guy who can make it to the pro bowl off 3 ints and his name lol. any 1s thought?
-BroncosFan973-
wow! ok!!!! tak thngs wayyyy to serious! i just spel’d hesitant rng so u rite a siks line parograf jst 2 tel me i mes’d up! get a life!!!!!! nd yes, i rote ths rong jst 2 anoyy u!!!
Dude, were on a blog. I just wanted to talk football and i don’t care that much so before you go writen stuff to offend people just think that were all just on here to have fun. Go Broncos!!!
-broncosfan14441-
Thanks Cisco for the agreement… And yes.. i do believe we have our franchise running back right know and we’ll soon find out who… but do we have a franchise RB like a TD or an Emmit?… and that will take a long time to tell but i sure hope we have a RB like that in this group… Only time will tell… but as of right know i think Young is our #1 guy right off the bat… but anything… absolutely anything can happen so I cant put my life on that
i just read an article on espn.com with javon walker crying about the way denver used hims and how we didnt want him to be a part of the offense in the second half of the season and hes gonna show us what were missin. i cant wait to see champ shut him down on the monday night opener. im guessing hell end up with 3 catches maybe 20 yards if hes lucky and possibly a td if champ gets bored or has a cold or something
m.c. you are absolutely right. But think of it this way. Every team has holes or ways to beat them. Every team is always trying to improve. Not just us.
I do believe you are right when it comes to pressuring the qb, it should be solid barring no injuries. I also think they need to mix up their strategies more and we will probably get that with Slowik. As far as the #2 WR, we need to have a deep threat receiver. Not saying B-Marsh can’t do it, but he has more uses than that.
I’m not saying we will win the superbowl. I do think we get a wild card and go to the afc semis at least. Then again that is just a prediction.
But right down to it, Selvin has the starting job to lose but regardless, we have a more solid line, (still unsure about the right side, but the left is good) so I think we will see the broncos running game on the rise the next few years until we are back where we belong.
Thanks for the comments broncfalls & broncobailey
Ya! hahaha Walkers a joke, he’s whining to make himself sound like it wasn’t his fault or doesn’t have to blame it on his knee. What a punk, I can’t wait to see the raiders get trampled. It just sucked when warren sapp went there. I actually really like Sapp.
of coarse we didn’t want to use javon the second half of the season. No one wants a grown man who cry’s like a little girl on the field. I still remember an interview from last year where his bottom lip quivered when he was talking cuz he was about to breakdown. And to think, I ALMOST bought his jersey….. close one.
What’s wrong with u guys? Darrell Jackson had 10 TD’s just 2 yrs ago.
A number 3 rcvr? Dont think so! He’ll be the number 2 and have a pretty good year. Samie Parker and Colbert aren’t good enough to be a number 2, so Jackson has no competition besides Eddie Royal if he has a good rookie year. Royal will also be a great kick returner, I’m assuming atleast 3 KR TD’s.
AGREED… Darrell Jackson = #2… Royall i dont think will play too much reicever this year but will focus more on returns… although i do think we’ll see royall a few times and especially in the future as a Reciever
Thank you Broncobailey, atleast someone agrees with me. It’s nice to know not everyone on this blog is a raider lover like M.C.
hey if you read in past blogs, i have been stating the same thing, jackson is the number two guy. Not many people seem to acknowledge that, but I just stopped talking about it because I think he will speak for himself when he gets on the field. Glad to hear you guys in agreement.
Cisco Thats all i wanted people to realise, that other teams in this division have tried to make their teams better just like we have, you think the cheifs want to get pounded by us again next year no…. even though with brodie croyle its gona happen any way.
The only difference is which team was right about those “upgrades”
And boss you get better with each one, so now because im not blindly optimistic and i dont ignore facts that makes me a raiders fan, I hope your the only idiot on this blog.
And two questions one for any one who attended practesis the last 2 years:
Every time i watched a broncos parctice clip it was always cutler bootleg and walker beating champ deep, was this the norm or was it just walker got one on champ?
And another If we move DJ back to weak side that mean boss will have to play strong side and nothing about his days in detroit suggest strong side line backer, So would it be better to put DJ at strong and have boss play weak, which his speed and athletic ability is bettter suited for covering backs out the back feild, rather than stuffing the run on the strong side.
Or would leaving Dj at middle put boss on weak and the other guy at strong, be a better match up, i mean if you can play middle cant you play all 3 LB position, and since this K guy is supposed to be an answer at middle, but i know he wont be as good as DJ was move him to strong side, and let DJ turninto ray lewis #2 at middle
M.C., I’m glad that you said “i dont ignore facts”, because that just proves my point even more. DJ is much more comfortable at outside LB, which he has said before. Forcing him to play at a position he does not feel comfortable at would be ignorant. Say the chargers moved Merriman to MLB. Would he have a better season? I dont think so.
Secondly, the Lions never gave Boss a chance because they had their up-and-coming star in Ernie Sims. Boss was great at strong side in college when they gave him a chance, and the Broncos will be the same way.
Thats a tough one M.C. … What i think is you should really keep D.J. outside, becaues thats where he is used to playing in college and the start of his NFL career. With the whole boss thing that is tough as well because he isnt a big superstar and you cant quite tell if he would do a good enough job yet.. but after you’ve said that i think it would be best so try D.J. on the strong side with boss and the weak and have whom ever in the middle
Ok, here is the answer,
If you want to keep a quality player on the team, aka DJ, then you need to listen to what he wants, especially after all the great playing and willingness to do whatever he has done. With that said, DJ says he wants to move back to the weakside, because when you get moved to a different position every year, it stops you from settling in and improving on your technique. So he feels like he is being held back from showing his true potential. So DJ will play on the weak side this year and hopefully for a long time. Now to Boss. He is said to be faster than champ and, he said that Detroit didn’t use him right, which is probably true being that Detroit has sucked for quite some time now. Boss is fast, strong and a hard hitter. so if Slowik can put in a good system which will use each player correctly, then these two spots should be taken care of. And the middle? Well Niko seems to be the guy, time will tell, but he was only the backup because he played behind one of the best guys in the league in Seattle. He was a monster tackler for them on special teams which means he has good tackling technique and very nice speed, which Nate Webster had neither of so much, he has alright speed, but he is an all or none type of tackler. He will either hit you and make you hurt, or he will miss you and give up a huge play. So lets hope Niko can play middle and we will have a very good trio of LB’s.
By the way DJ has also vocalized that he dislikes playing sam, he likes it least out of the three positions.
Im not hearing too much confidence in our LB situation, should we have focused more on the position in the draft, because even if the situation with our Starting LB’s is handled, whos backing them up, what happens in a case of an injury. I mean the only thing good i see outside of DJ and Boss, is the guy out of USC and thats only because USC LB normally turn out to be pretty good. I guess we all just have to wait it out and see
I like our LB situation.. but it is kinda thin (no depth) or at least not with the best back ups… but i think we should be able to pull it off this year and then can focus on a possible drafted LB or even come across a LB in a trade or in the free agency that can have a big help
my bad i was thinking about the Jags when i said the guy out of USC, we got that guy from arizona, from scouting reports it sounds like he could be a find.
READ THIS!!!!!!!!
What rookie will make the biggest immediate impact on the broncos?
My choice is Eddie Royal. He is going to help out in the return game and has the hands and speed to be a quality reciever.
The biggest?… Well thats our #1 draft pick Ryan Clady… but the one you’ll notice more because all eyes will be on him when he’s on the field then that would be Eddie Royal…
I seriously think we have improved at every position and am very excited about this years team. I have to listen to all these Bandwagon Charger fans down here and am ready to unload our offensive weapons on them. We have a great group of receivers and dont forget Parker is one of the fastest in the NFL. We have a ton of depth and I think we have the ability to put up a lot of points. Happy Fathers Day to all you Daddy Bloggers. Take Care,
….West Coast
Wow, these blog entries got heated!!! MC, your are right in the fact that Denver does have holes to fill, but so does every other team in the NFL(someone already said that, can’t remember who.) GO BRONCOS!
Yeah every team has holes… you’d be unhuman if you had no holes on your team… but I can’t wait either.
Just the fact that Jay will be healthy and ready for his 3rd season is exciting… he now has more recievers w/ experience and a some what better O line… that should be good… Defensively im excited about D.J. back in his spot and Boss with us now…
We’ve most defenetly improved… im not sayin Superbowl status (which would be awesome) but i think we’ll be back in the playoff run and become that playoff team we use to be…
***JUST FOR “KICKS AND GIGGLES”… WHO DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO DO THE BEST FOR THE BRONCOS THIS YEAR (IN OTHER WORDS… WHO WILL BE THE TEAM MVP)***
i think ether selvin young or b marsh, but i could see champ haveing a great year after whats considered a bad year for him last season
Either Dumerville because he will lead the league in sacks, if the other guys help him by doing enough so that he doesn’t get double teamed all the time, or jay cutler with all these receivers at hand, he just might have himself a great season, but the catch for this to happen is A) B marsh has to be a monster and recover from his injury, and 2) the o-line needs to give cutler time to make some deep bombs. Sammy parker looks like he knows how to stretch the field.
MVP? Wow. It could be a number of players. Jay, B-Marsh, Selvin, Champ, Jarvis, Elvis, D.J. There are a few candidates but hoestly I think it will be either Champ or Cutler.
And I am also looking forward to this season. I have been waiting too long already for this. Does anyone have any predictions about the records for this season in the AFC West??? Here’s what I think, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions so nobody bite my head off plz.
Chargers: 12-4
Broncos: 10-6
Raiders: 6-10
Chiefs: 3-13
Just to add some depth to this, I think we will go 1-1 with the Chargers. We will go 1-1 with the Raiders. And I can see us destroying KC so I will go 2-0 against them. What do you guys think?
Ha! I like how you (CISCO24) said evry1 is entiled to their own opinion so dont bite my head off because i hate when people argue so much. Here’s my opinion:
Chargers: 13-3 (6-0 in Div)
Broncos: 11-5 (4-2 in Div)
Raiders: 8-8 (2-4)
Chiefs: 4 -12 (0-6 in Div)
