To finish up last week’s post business, I did play with Dennison here but he was a linebacker at the time and we played against each other. As a coach, I agree with many of you about his credentials. He’s done a great job everywhere he’s gone, and he was trained by Alex Gibbs.
I also agree with the risk reward aspect of coaching your way through the ranks. I chose real estate to control my own destiny like many of you chose your line of work. I fell in love with Denver after playing here and wanted to stay in the area to raise kids and the school system here is as good if not better than most places around the country.
Could I coach? Absolutlely, no questions asked. Fundamental are where you start at all levels and you probably read my offensive line 101 at the beginning of the season. It’s about creating good habits.
Now to the Game.
Arizona Cardinals? Tough day, but not much different than other games this year where we turned the ball over and we’ve talked about it all year. Coaches coach, players play and we still need all the same things we needed last week and earlier in the season — consistency, ball handling, solid defense and errorless offense.
It will take two or three years to rebuild what we have, and in this immediate gratification society we live in, we will have to be patient. I know how tough that will be. I mentioned it in the past that a coach needs about four years.
My hats off to Mr. Bowlen and the organization for making a tough decision and being ready to move forward. I await the next step like the rest of you…anxiously…BUT we will have to be patient with next coach no matter who he is.
Running Game: I like the improvement and would like to see more of it too. Kyle’s had a couple of tough outings so I’m sure all we’ll hear is Tebow for the rest of the week because that sells newspapers, but let’s see how the season plays out. This coming offseason will be red hot.
As you can see I didn’t have much to say about the game and stats. It’s one of those games when it’s over you just want to put it behind you as a player and a fan and move to the next week with as little frustration as possible — and patience.
What about you??

Rudolph would be the only O player I`d be happy to get in the 2nd round. All D players if he`s gone.
well i dont know how you forget how to catch but graham has done it this year! and usually at the WORST time… like late in the game, 3rd down and what ever…. pass to daniel graham for a first down… oh… right through his hands, or better yet, right off of them. stone hands graham. thats what ive been calling him most of this year. fitting i think.
Milehighmagic, Your words are just as important bro.
Yeah ray, he is having an off year. But he was never known for his catching skills in the first place. Blocking has always been his calling card.
I know strand, but I’m always one step behind. I just think it’s funny.
New Blog!
Rayjr26, like it really matters. Our problems are alot bigger than Daniel Grahams. He`s far better than alot of our players on this current team. We are already a sinking ship and Graham is not the problem. He`s not being utilized correctly. Just saying.
I know. I do it too. LOL
Any thoughts on what type of hc we should get. We really to bolster the d. But I’m afraid Tebow might be left behind wo an offensive mind.
The other thing about Graham is he’s a team captain and in a way the inspirational leader in offense. I hear ray’s complaint, Graham has dropped a ton of passes this year which is disappointing, but he’s actually one of my favorite current Broncos for his toughness and passion.
Yes he has. There`s no denying that.
Da’Quan DE Clemson has 15.5 sacks this year and is projected in top 5,we could use him as well.
*Da’Quan Bowers
Daniel Graham might be one of the Broncos I wouldn`t mind sitting down and having a cup of coffee with. I hear he`s laid back and down to earth.
Yeah strand, I’ve heard that too. Plus he was born and raised in CO since his father was a Bronco. That’s why I don’t think we should ever get rid of him. Being a Bronco matters to him.
In the mock drafts Bowers is as high as the # 2 or #3`s. WOW!!
Thats way cool!
Our biggest problem is pass rush. If we got Da`Qaun Bowers and Elvis is back in the house, just think what we could do. The D would be on the field alot less. Thats a start!!
Way cool 88.
I think it would be good to keep Graham in Denver. We need him if we are going to the zone blocking/ an actual run game. pick up a pass catching TE in FA. I don’t see a need to draft one. Unless he is #1 on the board for available players and we have already picked up a DE, MLB and possibly a CB.
I too favor the zone blocking scheme, but I am a little concerned with our inexperienced line. Effective zone blocking requires, quick, agile and smart O-linmen working in perfect rhythm. Not saying we have a weak o-line but they are not exactly the most technically sound. And the adjustment to protecting a running left handed QB. I would really like, whoever comes in next year as the O-line coach to be adaptable to having a duel threat QB. it pains me, to watch Philly kick ass all year with Vick, and people still putting pressure on Tebow to be a pure pocket passer. It is non sense. build around a duel threat QB.
stevecan2,
Actually I think our O-Line is perfect for the zone blocking scheme. Clady, Harris, and Kuper all started in that scheme for Shanny. Beadles played at Utah, where they use a ton of zone blocking. The only question mark is Walton, but I think he’s a good enough center to adapt to it.
I may be in the minority, but I think our O-Line is set for a long time. Assuming we resign Harris because I think this is the last year of his contract.
milehigh, you are not a minority by any means with your opinion. It didn’t appear that way, but I too want to see the zone blocking scheme back in Denver, that is one of the things I didn’t like about the last coach. I do not believe in a power blocking scheme. I am just a little on the cautious side about how effective our new scheme would be next year. I also agree with many that Moreno would be more productive in a zone scheme. He is a north and south, one cut, stlye runner. Strong legs, etc. The only backside is that he is a little slow off the get go, but the strong legs, I believe counter the negative in that aspect.
And remember, TD wasn’t exactly fast. So I doubt Knowshon’s lack of breakaway speed would be a huge problem.
I am only cautious, because for whatever reason, during the last coach’s tenure, it appeared that the position coaches were not effective. It is the position’s coach to keep his player’s focused on the small things. Attention to the little details that the HC or coordinators may not have the time, to focus on. This is of course common sense stuff I am mentioning, but it did seem to pass the current coaching staff’s grasp.
Yeah, I agree with you there. But hopefully if they bring in a coach who runs a zone blocking scheme, they’ll actually know what they’re talking about. I guess I’m just assuming Bowlen won’t make the same mistake again.
But yeah, that’s why having a guy like Dennison back in some form would be great. He would implement the system the right way.
lol milehigh, I had him in mind when commenting.
I will take a back with strong legs, good vision, and passion to light up some linebackers, over a Clinton Portis style runner any day. 3 to 4 yards a carry is all it takes to be a successful RB in my book.
If I were to be the next O-line coach with Tebow at QB, I would study the hell out of three systems. Tom Cable’s o line in 2006. Juan Castillo’s o line this year and the 49ers o-line in 1994.
Sense Moreno is of topic. It would appear to me, that given that Coach Studesville was the RB coach, he can be accredited to some of Moreno’s improvement. I just wish he was a more capable coach in stopping his RB’s from coughing up the football.
Actually, I would think Studesville could figure the fumbling problem out. I could be wrong, but wasn’t he the Giants RB coach when Tiki Barber finally fixed his fumbling problem? I’ll have to do some research on that one.
That’s right, he was.
Mcd I mean Studesville “PLEASE PLAY TEBOW” if you want to do whats best for the team. Whats best for the team is playing Tebow. Please coach with your eyes open not closed like Mcd. No matter what you say the broncos do not have anything to play for. We can’t win the division & we are out of the playoffs. The only thing we need to play for is play are younger players to see what we have for future & that includes “TEBOW”. So don’t be stubborn like Mcd be your own man.
Wow, and I thought the blogs after the Raiders blow-out were a all-time high…231 in 24 hours!! You Rock!!
I don’t know about you but I just got done watching the Ravens-Houston game and man oh mighty was it a good one. That’s the NFL, reminded me of a overtime game we had with the Raiders and we won and we could barely walk off the field we were so tired. The Ravens could barely muster a pass rush in the fourth quarter which helped Houston tie it up and with the momentum they had I thought they might pull it off.
P.S. side note, that Houston D is pretty dang good….they mix up the rush and blitz’s as good as anyone I’ve seen all year and the Ravens are a well coached team. They won’t be an easy game period.
Had a game like that against Houston while in Tampa and I can rememeber laying on the bench in the lockeroom after the game was over and I had to have a trainer help me get my pads off I was so exhausted. I think we threw the ball 70 times or something rediculous like that.
Came it to catch up BOOM -231 posts from you crazies, I love reading them and yes I read every one. To globally answer or really add to the group, I played on a horrible Tampa Bay team so it’s easier for me to say, “have patience”. There’s some talent here, but there’s also some glaring holes that have to be filled.
Problem now is:. We have to see who gets hired, what type of coach they are, what type of system they came from, who they hire, what kind of players did they employee in that system. Who knows?
I’ll create a rumor or just a educated guess. Maybe Elway goes a step farther and gets a group of investors together and buys the team. What would that look like. Frankly, anything John does with this team will be welcomed by me. In the dictionary, next to competitor is his picture.
Oh, and who ever referenced Millen and Elway in the same sentence …PLEEEEEEEASE… I played against Millen and he’s not on the same planet as a John Elway.
The waiting game starts??
Coop
Coop,
I just want to say I really respect you for getting on here and sharing with us every week, win or lose. I don’t know if I’ve ever said thank you because I usually just get on here and complain. But that’s just out of frustration. I’ve bled Orange & Blue since birth, and this kind of season hurts bad so I have to vent.
But again, thanks for what you do. The fact that you actually read our comments eases the pain a little bit. So, thanks again.
We need an offensive coordinator that can utilize two different style QBs, or just one frankly, I would love it to just throw Tebow in only, cause I don’t see Orton pulling out another year like this one again. We need a Defensive-minded Head Coach to take over here, the Defense is what has been killing us the most this season. I’d love to see nothing but defensive drafting this off-season, sign a decent TE from the Free Agents, signa younger, more game ready D lineman. We’ll be set in 2-3 years.
Coop, you sure got some big ones, coming on here telling us maybe Elway will get some investors and buy the team, WOW. That absolutely shocks me and pleases me at the same time that you can actually come on here and say stuff like that, I have all of a sudden gain mucho respect for you for speaking your mind and for the organization for allowing this much freedom of speech on the site.
Anyhow the shocking thing is so far I have never heard anywhere that Bowlen would ever consider selling the whole team, of course many have mentionned Elway buying a share but that’s about it, usually Denver sports writers are rather telling us Bowlen will never sell… But that??? Flabbergasted! But when I think it over, with the fact Bowlen’s health is not very conducive to running such enterprise anymore with the reported short memory losses and the reported lack of interest by Bowlen’s children to take over the team, eventually what does that leave? Bowlen’s only other child to speak of, Elway, and he has money, and he knows people with money and he is Mr. Broncos, he loves the Broncos and he would love nothing more than to finish his working life with the Broncos, so here comes your “rumor or educated guess”!!!
Well, Coop, if that ever happens I will be the first one to say to everyone I heard it from Cooper first.
I know that we all want to see things fixed quickly but I believe that we need to allow the Broncos some time to fix this. I honestly believe that the executive level of the Broncos organization listens to the fans, for the most part, and to harry them into another bad decision is the greatest fear that I have. It would be no different then grouping the next Bronco team that is fielded into a “funnel of death” and letting them walk into machine gun fire single file. Lets allow the organization to trade space for time. The next head coach can not be a youngster, a college coach, or someone new to the life of a head coach. If I were Pat Bowlen, I would take the time to create a definitive list, court the people on this list properly (by which I mean pay them a gross amount of money), and make a decision that gives the entire organization the best chance at being competitive. And yes; I said competitive. We are not going to be world beaters next year (or whenever the CBA is agreed to). For my money I would look for individuals that were not only winning coaches but were part of organizations that have continuously been “in the hunt” year after year no matter what injuries they were dealing with or what distractions were there. Organizations like the Ravens and Steelers come to mind. New head coach? Fine. QB having a few legal problems? Got it handled! The Leader of the defense is Ray Lewis? Oh wait, that’s not a problem is it? The point I’m making is that there are two former head coaches that I would begin to court right away no matter what they may have said publicly. Bill Cower and Brian Billik. And no; I don’t believe that they are completely comfortable doing the analyst gigs and yes; I believe that the Broncos could have a legitimate shot at one or both of them. They both represent the best of what we could ask for. They have the understanding of what it takes to build an organization. They would both bring the knowledge of who to put in what position so that they could trust in the fact that the job was going to get done and their collective understanding of personnel could fill an entire encyclopedic set from A to Z. I know that Billik was perceived as being a coach that the game may have passed by but I honestly think that he was burned out more than anything. Cower on the other hand made a number of comments during his coaching time for the Steelers that lead me to believe that he found something alluring about the Denver Broncos. Finally; I believe that both coaches not only want to get back to the NFL but want to rebuild a team from the ground up. This is less of a concern than I think most would make it out to be. With the knowledge that they carry around with them they are no longer in the position of having to make mistakes to learn their way to the top. They have been to and have won super bowls. They have always been competitive and they have won their super bowls in the modern age of free agency. I don’t want to worry about backstopping a young or inexperienced head coach. I don’t want to learn about his quirks as they apply to selecting or handling players. I want experience. Does Cower get rid of Hillis? Does Billik let Cutler go? Have either of them fallen to divisional opponents by 50 points? No. Did the Ravens have our number when Billik was coaching them (and they still do)? Did Cower pull the trigger on Polamalu? Does anyone remember who drafted Ed Reed or Ray Lewis? Did Cower coach a young Cordell Stewart to the AFC Championship his rookie year? Yes to all. And lets not forget that they do things the “right way” as that has become ever so important in today’s NFL. Lets give the organization the time that Pat Bowlen deserves. Remember that the only reason we now what we as Broncos fans had is because Bowlen brought it all together for our Super Bowl runs!
Dominate their will to win!
Mike in San Diego
milehighmagic88: Thanks for the kind words. As a former player I’m a lot more like you than you may think bleeding the Blue and Orange too. I just look at things a little different and that’s what really makes this fun. I get a different perspective, both good and bad sometimes, but that’s what keeps it interesting and I really enjoy it. Thanks again.
baylinorcrush, I have the utmost respect for Mr. Bowlen because he could be one of the best owners in the league and that’s not because I played for him. His actions speak louder than his words in what he’s done in the communiy, for the Alumni, and the Denver Broncos Organizatin. Football is a business and he’s gone out of his way to try to make the NFL a better place and the Broncos a first class organization.
Nobodys perfect either, and we all have to look in the mirror each morning and live with any/all mistakes we’ve made and learn from them in all our business’s and lives for that matter…..and move on and we’re seeing Mr. Bowlen do that with this coaching change.
Now, whether my guess/rumor is a part or whole it’s just a hunch I had. Like I said, any involvement John would have would be awesome. This is going to sound odd, but in my 50 years of sports, I never met a guy as competitive as John…… think about that for a second, and I don’t see him that often anymore and really have never mentioned that to him and I played around a lot of great players.
RAIDER HATER WEEK FOLKS, let’s get the Orange on this week at work or play and support the fellas!!!
Coop
Yeah, I have like a two hundred some pages Bronco album and about 20 pages are about Elway alone who in there I refer as to Mr. Denver Broncos, he is my biggest sport idol all time, just glad to hear a fellow competitor calls him the biggest competitor he has ever seen in his life, I don’t doubt it one bit, that’s exactly the way it looked to me from the stands or on TV all those years.
See you all after the game and hopefully a WIN. been a tough year but maybe the fellas hoild a grudge for the punch in the mouth the first game and are ready to dish some out in the black hole. By the way a FUN FUN place to play.
It’s a cross between a biker bar and Halloween on Steroids with all the folks dressed in black and the costumes they come in from Darth Vader type outfits to bkers with spikes around there neck….it’s actually a pretty entertaining place to play and even a better place to win. It can get loud and you have to appreciate the fans there and their costumes.
GO BRONCOS and maybe we se some Tebow with Kyles ribs being sore. Ready or not they will customize the offense around what the guy does best to take advantage of his attrubutes so either way I wish him and the Team good luck.
Go Get em FELLAS!!!
See you all on the backside of the game!!

I have to admit after the Turd Kyle dropped last week I’m officially on the Tebow wagon.

GO BRONCOS ! ! !
COOP!
I’ve got a conspiracy theory for ya.
What if Pat Bowlen and Mr. Ellis hired McDaniels so that He would fail?
That’s right what if the Power’s to be actually hired a rookie coach to come in and get rid of some high profile player’s who never wanted to be here in the first place and had Them over a barrel over more money. Say, a high profile player that all the fans loved and would do anything for. Like, say? Cutler, Marshall, Stokley, ect… and They needed a fall guy to take the blame. Enter Josh McDaniels, the perfect scapegoat, The perfect Heel, someone everybody could disrespect.
Just sayin… Hehee……
