The Magic is back!!!
Bend-don’t-break defense comes up big with a goal line stance and a “DJ” stop on 3rd and short to make for a missed field goal….wide right!!
Whew, I may need some stress medication or something this season. How much fun are these games to watch?? So we asked for it and we got it this off-season with firepower and receivers catching the ball all over the field. Like they say “Be careful what you ask for” we got it!!
So, how many of you got up to get something in the kitchen and missed a score or a big play?
I replied late last week on your “Bolts” responses and that was fun so in case you missed anything check back on the Bolts comments because you all were pretty funny last week and fun to reply to.
369 total yards this week to 502 for the “Aints”…that number worries me as weeks to come we’ll see some defenses that could hold us down and the nature of the game is that there will be weeks where things just don’t click.
K.C. 0-3 with 12 consecutive losses…hmm took one on the chin from Atlanta this weekend. These opponents scare coaches to death because they are afraid of a let down or players looking past these types of opponents and in the NFL that can cost you a game.
“Beauty and the Beast” still stands and I’m glad Schefflers back in the mix….we might need a nic name for him???

I agree with you about how we need to guard against complacency this Sunday. However, I can’t help but think it could get ugly for the Chiefs if we manage to hold them under 120 yards rushing.
Hey Coop, what do you know about the offensive scheme and how much they are passing? I don’t like all the passing, we’re starting to play like the Patriots offense, which has been great, but I hate all the passing. Shouldn’t we control the game more with more running? Do you think the O-coor. is too young and greedy, not being mature enough to call patient plays? Our defense probably needs more time to rest between series.
I have very much enjoyed the offense but we definitley need another pass rusher on the other side of Dumerville. We need a guy who can stuff the run and be a pass threat. I think the guy that would be perfect would be DE Vanderbosch from the Titans. He works on that side of the line anyway and he can do both very well. Maybe if we could package some of those picks we have to take a shot at him.
I personally love how much we have been passing, and who wouldn’t want to so much when you have Marshall, Royal, and Scheffler to throw to? I do agree though its starting to look a lot like the 07 Patriots offense. We do have solid runners and so did the Patriots, with the exception of a few games last year they never really got the ground game going. Looking at our 1-2 punch of Young and Hall, I think they will give us enough of a ground game to make D’s know they need to cover the whole field, let the passing attack do its thing, and it will down the road open up bigger games for the run.
I really like all the passing too. But i do think we need to slow it down and control the game little better The big play our working great for us, on the offence side but i think it hurts the D little bit. They are getting tired and i think its because they are on the field a lot because we are scoreing really quick. Don’t get me wrong its great that we are scoring so much points but its ok sometimes in the right situation to manage the game too. We have three great running backs were a great running team. So slowing the game down shouldn’t hurt us to bad. Because these games or giving me a heart attack
I agree with eveything broncoryyan said because slowing the game down is not all that bad
Guys, the defense won’t get tired if they stop someone and get off the field! The object is, after all, to score as many points as possible and hope it is more than what the opposition scores. When you are clicking on all cylinders you don’t want to throw a monkey wrench into the program by screwing around with the scheme or changing the tempo. Nobody can keep up with us at this pace, we just have to improve on defense. The young defense has faced two of the best offenses in the NFL the last two weeks and has made some big plays against them . Not enough big plays and too many yards allowed which I am sure they are all aware of. I’m thinking we will see how much they improved over the last couple of games this week, playing against a team with little offensive fire power. If they all but shut the Chiefs down, I will say they are a better defense than in week one. As far as the defensive scheme, I’d like to see them get after the QB early, do what ever it takes to knock him on him butt a time or two. Give them something to think about.
The offense reminds me more of “the greatest show on turf” offense of the Rams in their glory years. They could run the ball when they wanted to and I think that goes for the Broncos also. Not so much for the Pats.
Shanny won’t let complacency set in. We traditionally struggle at Arrowhead, so that should be motivation enough. If we play like we have offensively and can stonewall Kansas City’s running game, this will be a blowout. Additionally, I agree that we’re like the Rams of 1999, and I’d take Stokley over Az-Zahir Hakim any day, so perhaps we’re even better. Scheffler’s solid although the fumble made me cringe. Oh well, 3-0′s a good thing to be after three games.
the offense is fine where it is…if we hold teams on D even to an avg amount of points like 17-14 points…we will probably win almost every game this season…the D just needs to improve…which it will…I liked that 3-4 scheme…there are some positives that could come out of that.
It seems to me that the defense just doesn’t like playing the zone. Bly is ten yards of anyone playing the zone and our more inexperienced players are getting exploited. When we went to man coverage in the third quarter we started to come up big. It’s a little more physically demanding, but I think our guys are up for it! (especially the Bailey Bros’)
What do you think Coop?
In reference to the comments that we are throwing the ball to much… If we want to run the ball and control the clock – our defense needs to learn how to keep a lead. If we could stop the other team once in a while – and we hold on to the lead – we would be able to run the ball and control the clock. If the defense wants to rest – give us a 3 and out the first couple of drives and we will be able to build up a lead that we will be able to run the ball more. When your defense / special teams lets the opponent to come back from 18 points down within minutes – we dont have the luxury of doing anything else but go for the jugular on offense. If the D can give 3 and outs on the first 3 drives of the game – I guarantee we will run the ball more. That is not asking to much for this week. I think my local high school team could stop the Chiefs offense. If we give up a lot of points this week – we’re done. No chance of doing anything in the playoffs. But my gut says this week is what will give our D confidence – which they can build on.
Boy how soon we forget our blogs about hopefully making the playoffs. Now we are adjusting the offense so we control the clock more.
BE HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE CREATED.
The OL has players that have been very good a pass blocking. Let them develope into good run blockers also. This does take some time.
On the defensive side, HELP! The cover-8 did not work. Three rush linemen is not our cup of tea IMO. The 46 maybe a better fit and we have the LB’s and CB’s to play it. I have faith in Slowik finding something that fits our type players.
I’m not saying we should run more to run the clock down so we can punt. Running more than passing doesn’t mean we won’t score too. I said we should run more to control the game more, and score in the end of the drive. Our running game looks good so far, but it’s rare we run. Remember when we won the super bowls? We were a dominant running team. What is wrong with that? It’s better for the whole team to run more and dominate and score at the end of the drive. I think the experts will say that a great team is a team with a great running game and a great defense.
jmatty520 – I hear what your saying – and trust me I wish Selvin Young was as good as TD was in our super bowl days – but I dont think we could dominate the run game now like we did back then. I think its just a matter of “If it aint broke – dont fix it.” We are throwing the ball really well right now – so lets ride the wave. Eventually the defenses will focalize on stopping Cutler at any cost – and that should help open up our running game. I agree with you when you say for us to even have a chance in the playoffs – we will have to run the ball more. Totally agree. But for now – lets ride it out and score anyway we can. If that means 50+ passes a game – we should roll with it.
Funny how we all have differing opinions. I say go with what is working on Offense. Why hold Jay back like Elway was here in the old days with Reeves. The offense is clicking so fire away and keep putting points up and the defense will get it together.
jmatty520, you’re thinking old school…much like I was taught, control the ball with the running game and pass when needed, keep the 60-40 ratio and win the game and the clock. New era! Do what you do best and have success with. Use the talent at hand. My hats off to the coaching staff. They have a gunslinger and they’re not afraid to use him. I love it!!!
Interesting looking at stats this week. We’re the #1 offense in the AFC and #16 in defense in the AFC. On top and on the bottom. I’ve never seen that before and was a little perplexed, thinking, weird. The Saints defense is #14 in the NFC and Raiders are #10 in the AFC and Chargers are #15, all partially because of our success against them, keep in mind.
So we have a lot of improving to do before you can leave the TV set and not miss a big play
)…. I may be O.K. with that as long as we win.
P.S. don’t laugh, I’m headed down to Miami for the weekend for a 30 year High School reunion, so I’ll post after the game. I may need your help as I’ll be on the water Sunday fishing offshore, with a radio. Yep getting old, but in full denial!!!
) yak after the game
