It’s funny how Mondays in this town after a defeat are BLUE. Everyone I talked to was a little down and troubled by the Philly defeat and the loss of control of our own destiny. Monday morning Blues.
The future’s bright, it’s just not now. As much as I love these guys, it’s just not the team that can get us to the Super Bowl…yet. We have flashes of absolute brilliance and I like Kyle Orton, the way he handles the offense.
I like a lot about this team and the coaching staff and I like the direction we’re going. Super Bowls don’t just happen, promise. I really like what I see and with this year under our belt and maybe a playoff shot with some help…you never know. We are a lot closer than most may think or give credit.
Look around the league…a bunch of .500 teams. The stats are useless after a defeat. Give us a couple of plays and penalties back and that was a different game…way different.
One other thing…was it my eyes or was the receiver rolling the ball over (no control) on that last pass on the sideline??? Maybe it’s just my eyes.
)
Crazy season and maybe I ate my crow to early this season when we were 6-0 with my 8-8 call. I was as hopeful as anyone and impressed with our fast start. I say let’s get the Chiefs and see where the chips fall. As much as I hate to come up short, I really really like what I see.
What about you?

Hard to believe it has been 11 years since we all were basking in the glory of back to back superbowl wins. This current team has shown potential to be a good team,It just seems that something is missing, what exactly that is I’m not sure.Maybe it’s just attitude and confidence. Talent wise there are some exceptional players but possible to many mediocre ones.Makes you appreciate just how good and talented all of the players on those superbowl teams were.Something we might only see once in a lifetime. This years team did better than I thought they would overall.I guess that 6 and 0 start got most of us thinking they were better than they actually are.Coach does seem to have them going in the right direction as there was significant improvement on defense hopefully next years team will show improvement offensively, particularly redzone scoring. So onward and hopefully upward
I feel BLUE after every loss. I can’t stand losing, especially when I know that this team is better than how they performed on the field. It almost seems as though we get too comfortable with where we are at throughout games. It sort of seems like McD is play “Marty Ball.” We get a lead and then we quit attacking on both sides of the ball. We go 3 and out, we don’t blitz and just sit back in a zone. Good teams go for the jugular, the knockout punch, the stick a fork in ‘em, they’re done. We slowly let the teams back in it and that is something that we did last season also. A good 3 quarters of football isn’t enough, we need to finish. Its like failing do a fatality in Mortal Kombat..oh man I’m old. LOL!
My apologies to broncofannsd and BroncoBoyest95 or anyone if I offended. You have the right to comment however you want to. I guess this site would be a lot less fun if we didn’t have different points of view.
BroncoBoyest95 you say you’re from Oakland?? Good thing you were brought up right and not a Raiders fan. LOL!!!
Yeah Coop that ball was definitely rolling it was not just your eyes, I saw it too. One of his toes came up off the turf BEFORE he gained control. I couldn’t believe the call was overturned but that is the story of our season. We hardly ever get the calls we should or win challenges. After getting my hopes up with a 6-0 start I just feel totally deflated what with going 2-7 since the bye week. We should of had at least 3 of those losses as wins and would not be needing a win with help to gain a wild card slot. In fact if we had those wins, we would be in a position of not being able to change our seeding up or down at this point and could even rest some starters. I hope we get a wild card because the playoffs start a new season and you never know what can happen. Either way we need to finish off the season with a win and winning record. 9-7 will be a success after most so called “experts” thought we would not win more than 3 games.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
yea, there were a lot of bs calls, in the Eagle favor, and i’m with you every true BRONCOS fan should have some blue in’em after a lose, we actually lost that one to the refs, teams should be able to challege the refs as well. However, that being said, we have played really well, lost some close ones, that’s the nfl. I’ve been on the Kyle band wagon since we bought him over, and i remember a lot of Orton haters blogging at the begining of the season. We’ll be a better team next year.
Coop,
I will kindly disagree with your opinion on Orton. I don’t believe he will ever lead us to the SB. If he can’t step forward two yards for a 1st down, how can he ever take us the whole distance?
We need a QB who is more of an athlete and able to scramble when needed. A QB who can make something out of nothing. A QB who can throw the ball far enough for the reciever to catch it in stride and not have to come back for the ball. A QB who is accurate with his passes.
I would like to see Brandstater get his shot.
Thank you, Coop, for your kind words toward Kyle Orton. He has done a good job, usually even when the line has its problems. In this last game, for instance, he managed a 90.4 QB rating in the face of a fierce, relentless pass rush. I guess, however, any QB not named John Elway is not going to be good enough in this city.
I just got through going over some of the stats, and it occurred to me that Denver is only the 4th team to score 27 or more points against the Eagles this year. Two out of the other three were the high-flying Saints and Chargers.
The defense did a bang-up second half job, except for the one play, McNabb’s 27-yard scramble. Once they start playing in the first half like they often do in the second, that is going to be one terrifying defense.
I believe next year the Broncos are going to be a team nobody wants to play . . .
yeah, i guess we do have potential
Like many Bronco fans, when the schedule came out I figured 7-9 to 9-7. Looks like we were correct, it just sucks the way we ended up with our record.
Many ask where has our running game gone? It went on injured reserve at the same time Ryan Harris did. Check out the running plays. How many are to the left and how many are to the right? Polumbus just isn’t up to Ryans caliber of play.
I am both encouraged and discouraged by the Broncos perfermances this year. The Losses to Washington and the Raiders are particularily galling.
But, the way we played at Indy and Philly after getting far enough behind that many teams would have folded their tents was extremely encouraging.
Last year we were 16th in scoring (Total offense is meaningless if you don’t score.). This year, we’re currently 20th. Not a major change.
Last year our defense was about 30th in yardage and scoring. This year we’re about 6th. This is a massive change that we all need to be excited about.
I am looking forward to 2010 and at least 11-5.
It has been a rebuilding year with a new system, new coach, and over half the roster of new players. Head blogger baylinor reiterated this to us, (me), during the first qtr of the schedule. Brandon Stokely’s amazing immaculate deflection, got the boys off to a great start in a game that appeared to be an opening day loss. They truly played together as a Team for those first 6 wins. We looked dominant against SD in the 2nd half on the Monday Night game right before the bye week. We all know some players never played a big part in Coach McD’s offense. WR Eddie Royal was never really a big contributor in the receiving game this year. (0 TD catches). This could be attributed to different reasons. He was our designated return man on ST. (Great day against SD w/ first game), however never seemed to develop a rapport with our new QB, save maybe game vs. Patriots.
In reference to our game vs. Eagles, it was great to see our Team stand up and fight when they could have folded at halftime. Defense gave the O some great opportunities. Some bad calls and or non-calls in this game really glared out. We’ve all watched plenty of calls go against receivers for rolling the ball, which is not maintaining possession. Stokley had a legit case as he was draped, & emotions got the best of him. (I liked the fire he showed, but initially didn’t realize he touched the ref). Kyle Orton did well overall for the Team this year all things considered. I noticed both his ankles were taped heavy and the finger hurt in preseason has tape as well. Give him credit for playing thru his injuries. Our Team did some great things this year and we now have a Defense we can build on.
Hope the Team gets ready this week, by working hard to avoid penalties, and executing their game plan to perfection. Some interesting scenarios for the last week of the regular season as the playoff picuture onfolds. Let’s finish with a strong win vs. the Chiefs ! We’ll then prepare for the worst, but hope for the best !!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!
Coop, I agree somewhat. About Orton, I don’t hate the guy but he’s just not a playmaker when plays break down. Steve Young said it best “Every game there are about 5 or 6 plays where something goes wrong and the play breaks down….either I would miss a read, the RB would miss his assignment or the line would miss a block…..you have to have a guy behind center that can make a bad play into something positive.” We don’t have that here. Teams are daring us to run the ball AND throw the ball deep. It’s not all Orton’s fault though.
I think Urlacher said it best when he said “the guys not flashy, but he’s a winner” about Orton. Orton isn’t flashy, he’s not the most mobile, not the most accurate or has the strongest arm, but he’s given us the best to win this season.
The last 2 weeks have been blue and tough to swallow…All comes down to redzone executition which we have not had for the last 3-4 years….I like Orton but I still beleive unless we have a top 5 defense and a great running game he won’t take us to the super bowl….We really need a quarterback that can make all the plays in MCD offense. Until then defense will be able to play man up and blitz to disrupt our 5 yd pass plays….We still did much better then anyone will give us credit too….here’s to hoping the bears lose again and we can secure a top 10 pick to get a NT or QB.
Well said shnieder, but for the reasons you have put forth, Orton can never be a solid starting QB.
Sure we can blame the oline but like many say, things go wrong….things don’t alway go to plan…gotta be mobile IN the pocket to avoid sacks….AND OUT of the pocket to pick up cheap first downs. (Amazing example would be McNabs 27 YARD SCRAMBLE that gave them new life) His arm is average at best…..accuracy slightly above average on a good day. His QB vision cone is small…and he often doesn’t see the whole field. But he is a smart guy for the most part and would be an excellent back up but not a starter….( plus he sets up his blocks well at the line when he talks to the oline…smart guy)
I long called for Brandstater…jsut to see what the kid had. But i guess Orton gave us the best chance to win…”not flashy but a winner”…but in recent weeks…he/the team, has become losers….losing last 7 of 9. I wanted Brandstater tos tart when Orton went down in Redskins and against the chargers, so we could know if we build on him and use him next year….OR draft a new QB…forward thinking and all that. But apparently McD had other Ideas….and put horrible simms in. QB job is a tough Job, I understand that….but if u call your self one and go out for the position…u should be ready to be criticized….I my self have always been more of a WR lmao
Coop, here we are singing the blues again. LOL. After we fell to 6-1, your article was titled “Monday morning blues”, last Monday it was “Red zone blues vs black and silver” and today we got “Monday blues in Denver via Philly”, don’t you think it’s grand time our team switches music genre and starts to Rock’n Roll? LOL. I’m all for it, been bluesy for too many times of late, 7 out of the last 9 weeks to be exact, that is no way to conclude a season.
I am glad royalbroncofan1 reminded me that I kept preaching for who cared to listen that even so we were winning earlier in the season it was still a rebuilding year, and that has now been firmly established. I liked a lot of what I’ve seen so far, if I talk like it’s the end of the season for us, I apologize, but that’s how I see it, none of those tie breaker options look good enough for me to hang my hat on, hope I’m wrong. However, yes, plenty of good stuff this year and it would be nice to top it off with a win to finally be better than 500 again.
Have to start with the D, absolutely amazing secondary, we never had anything quite like it, unfortunately we couldn’t match that level of play with the front 7 and that became our demise when we could no longer stop the run as the year went on. Huge improvements are needed on the D line, but we all knew that last year, McD not so much. On O, no doubt this year our best option was Orton, but I have to agree here that even so his heart, toughness, attitude on the field and on the sidelines is absolutely top notch, his pocket presence, or lack thereof, has shown to severely limit our options at that position. I would be ok with him getting another shot at it next year, but there is no doubt that we have to groom Brandstater for future years when we should have a legitimate chance at going all the way. I understand the O line was responsible for our fast desingrating running game, however Moreno has disappointed me all year, as you all know, and I truly believe that he doesn’t fit our power running scheme and that he will wear out physically quickly both in each season and in his career, he is not our answer for the running game, Beanie Wells would of been a better pick, but with Orapko still available with the 12th, that’s where we missed the boat and really missed our biggest chance to improve our front 7. But I live near Austin, so I probably knew more about him that McD did. The TE’s and WR’s were more than adequate, at time brilliant, but Orton’s lack of ability to buy time in the pocket, hence lacked having time to go through is options, severely hindering our receiving corps. The ST are split, excellent in the FG/KO kicking game, dreadful in the punting game, which brings me to the final point I’ll make for now, McD’s moves in mid season, Williams and Kern let go for Ty Law and Berger were atrocious and I bet didn’t bode well in the locker room either, those moves coincide strangely with our spiral downfall.
In closing, lots to learn for our young coach, but if he gets us to 9-7, he will have exceeded my 8-8 expectations, so I can’t really be to upset about our late season collapse, although it’s always hard to watch.
When you release two players and they immediately get signed by another team so you can sign two players who aren’t on any team, to me that is not smart move. Totally agree baylinorcrush.
What’s up my Broncos family it’s been a while since I’ve spoken on the blogs. Just sitting back watching, and trying to stay out of all the Who Dat’s way here in New Orleans.
I think our lack of a consistent running game has hurt us big time. I know many of you say the QB play has been suspect, but our running game has been high and low all year. More low than high. I refuse to fault Moreno bc he is a rookie and still has soooooo much to learn. Like many of you I wonder where was our brusier Hillis at?
Our play calling has been very very suspect! I think we ran those WR screens about 20 times against Phily. Last year we needed our Defense to catch up with our Offense while this year is the other way around. I think once we get some depth at running back then we will be in a great position to make some noise next year. I’m proud of the heart this Defense has shown all year. Lord knows that Phily game would not have been close if we had last years defense.
brandstater will never start for us
i hope they trade kyle so i can root for him on another team.
Well said Baylin, Our thoughts align well and nice follow up Brian Schnieder
To tell the truth…I thought Williams was a promising young DB in a Veteran filled secondary (gave us some youth and speed) and I never saw any problems with Kerns punts. Like them two alot and yes…it is amazing how their release coincides with our downward spiral….Biggest mistake this season in my book
You right Camarillo, can’t blame Moreno sinc ehe is a rookie…but funny enough we are all saying the same thing. McD wanted to make us a power o line…so he shoulda drafted a power back, signed one, or utilized hillis more. If he is going to move forward with this power O…he needs to draft bigger Oline help or sign power Oline men. Clady and Harris are the only true young versatile studs on our oline.
Like Baylin said, we live, we learn….. and theres alot of learning McD will take away from his rookie campaign. Lets beat the Chiefs and let everything else fall in place as it will. I think our chances are good…if cincy plays their starters…they can beat the jets and Houston can beat the Patriots if they put their all in it…and by beating the patriots…they aassure themselves a spot along with us in the playoffs if i am reading the playoff scenario right.
THE SEASON IS OURS FOR THE TAKING (with a little help lol)
GO BRONCOS!!!
You’re right TheRoyalBeast we need to get our identity back and figure out what type of offense we are gonna be. When we were winning back in the days we knew who we were. Now we have no clue. The only thing I know is I love me some Denver Broncos and will rep Orange and Blue no matter what.
Like someone said earlier the so called experts only had us winning 3 maybe 4 games. So I think we’ve had a good 1st year especially with all of the off field issues before the season.
I really do hope we shore up our train wreck of a redzone offense. The past few years our redzone offense has been BADDDDDDD!
The season isn’t in our control but it’s NOT over. I disagree with this not being the team to get us to the Super Bowl, I think that the heart this team has shown will come out in the playoffs and there’s not a team that wants to meet us. Not the Pat’s, not the Colts and definitely not the Chargers. I love reading columns from sports writers who say the Broncos have shown their true colors by winning only two games since their 6-0 start because it’s painfully obvious that they’re writing about something they know nothing about. I’ve seen every snap this year and with a different calls, not using Simms and more fortunate bounces we would be 13-2. (Baltimore and Pittsburgh) The Chargers blew us out in the second game but that bad review of Moreno’s fumble in the endzone (Hockley make-up call) was a huge momentum shift. Wish we would’ve had Bradstater as our back-up ’cause I’m not a fan of the lefties when you have Clady at LT ( I saw the Blindside). Bottom line is that this is a solid team now (We still have Marshall) and if we make the play-offs, we should all be very confident.
TRB, there are three ways for the Texans to make the playoffs if they win and finish 9-7 for the first time:
• Jets loss or tie plus Ravens loss or tie.
• Jets loss or tie plus Broncos loss or tie.
• Ravens loss or tie plus Broncos loss or tie.
So, the only way we would have Denver and Houston as wild cards, the Ravens must lose, the Jets must lose, the Broncos and Texans must win.
That’s the way I see it anyway.
truleo, I think it’s real cool how you build yourself up to be brimming with confidence if we make it to the playoffs, however even assuming we beat KC, I don’t believe the players will have a whole lot of that after finishing the season at what would be 3-7 and winning only one of the last 4. If we make the playoffs we are in for an uphill battle all the way, and it should be, expecting anything more is a pipe dream. Unlike you, I’d be willing to bet with the choices at hand we probably would be the first or second pick of most every team in the playoffs if they were asked who they would rather face first, of course they wouldn’t say anyway, but that’s just how it is, IMO, but I do love your enthusiasm once again.
Well this is how I see it. Great season in the first half and kind of poor in the second half. First half, all was good because we were winning, playing with fire in all those games. Second half we played down to our competition and also played up to our competition. Washington, Oakland, both should have been gimmies. Then the way we played Indy, Eagles, Pitt and just come up a bit short. Really, a good season with all the new players, coaches, and system.
Kyle, I have had his back all season. Good leader that is quick to give credit to others. Is he our QB of the future? No. Either Mc D has no faith in his arm or he has no arm. We have a whole slew of great recievers but we only throw to Marshall. Marshall is awsome but we do have alot of gooooood recievers. More than any team, so Marshall can’t be the only one open. Bubble screens can’t be thrown that many time in a game every game. I think Sims should go and Bradstater should be the backup. We should play him in the scond half, if we play down to below the chiefs this weekend. I think we need to see what he can do for us. (Only if things go bad this weekend) Playoff Chance is first.
O line also needs to be addressed. Power or zone ? Can’t be both. Make a decision. Moreno is a rookie and needs a second year at the least. He was a 1ST round pick and it can’t be waisted. He has good speed and makes good cuts. The O line will make an average back great, we all know that. Everything starts in the trenches.
D is a very good and fast with an awsome secondary. I think the D is fine with an O that can be on the field for more than 4 plays. Stretch the field and have better play calling with a QB that is a little more mobile.
Really i think we are only a few pieces asway. Good first year.
Go Broncos
I think what really helped us being good in the first 6 games is we had the surprise effect working to the max because we were a brand new team. No team knew, including us fans, remember?, what we were about, and I believe it confused our opponents, but as time went on teams started to see, like we did, that we didn’t really bring as much to the table as they thought, as we thought, we were capable of. So, they just narrowed down onto the obviously simple game plan we relied on week after week, no long game threat, dink and dunk and running up the middle, so the teams brought 8/9 in the box and they took it to us. Pretty simple stuff when you think of it.
ws
I cant believe all of yall u guys dont realize its been 4 years since the broncos been to the playoffs im sick every year around dis time i gotta watch someone else in the post season. Give Orton some credit we all thoght dey would be terrible but we shocked alot of people our D is getting better but none of dat matters if u cant get 2 da post season. Every bronco fan listen 2 brothers passed away and one anniversary is coming up lets do dis for D-Will lets get back in the postseason I believe it can happen this Sunday mite be ou day we need 2 play the cheifs like how we played dallas, new england, san deigo, and new york. If all us fans are All In den no team can beat us im All in with them im behind dem 100,000,000% we can shock the world i believe in them we need the lord to help us please its time for a change the Denver Broncos are coming in like a strom and we are going to the playoffs i believe and im ALL IN
All i got to say is who thought that we would end up either 8-8 or 9-7 this season? The Broncos have well surpassed the expectations of just about everyone. No one expected us to win the games that we won and finish the regular season the way we will end it.
I’m very proud of how good our team is and hopefully we will improve the offense greatly by drafting a qb in the draft. If we do draft a qb i really hope that we draft Colt McCoy from Texas. Hes a very accurate passer and can scramble from the pressure if any. I don’t have many ;problems with Orton but it seems like he can’t complete a pass past 15 yards and when hes under pressure he loses a substantial amount of composure. I just don’t see our offense improving much with Orton under center. We need a leader on offense not a game manager and Kyle Orton is just a game manager.
We can still make the playoffs. The Jets will choke because Rex Ryan is a fat loser who runs his mouth too much. Go Dolphins, Bengals and Broncos!
oh well..
Short, but to the point, I ought to try that some time, LOL. But you know I won’t be able to. LOL. I can’t even make it short right now! LOL.
Coop, sorry about Miami. Go Longhorns, LOL. Remember, I live near Austin. However, I believe this could be the year of the Tide.
Orton has done a good job this year. He has exceeded most peoples expectations. Now everyone is already wondering if he’s 2010 start quality. Let me trow this out there. Look at the change in his throwing mechanics since pre-season. Improvements have been made. He doesn’t throw the same. He got rid of that long wind up and he gets the ball out faster. I’m hoping he can make a few more improvements.
1) Against the Eagle’s I think I saw him hit receivers twice that weren’t the primary. That will have to improve next. Super Bowl quarterbacks seem to have a knack for finding guys that that weren’t at the front end of the agenda. 2)And I know that some QB’s are born with the ability to scramble (Kyle wasn’t born that way) but with time he will be more comfortable when he has to move. Really!!! Orton is still young. He could still develope into something special.
I think Orton is a top 10 QB in the league, that’s good enough to get to the playoffs. We all saw the drop off when he went down to injury and the resurgence when he came back. More and more the league is going to the passing game, and Orton is up to the challenge. Yea he has improvements to make but who doesn’t. All football games come down to just a few plays going either for you or against you, and that makes all the difference in winning or losing. We just didn’t get the breaks (the ball was moving after the right toe left contact with the turf), even a Philly fan that I was watching with saw it on the replay.
One comment back on the Raider game – why didn’t Stokely cut an angle to make it to the endzone to put the game out of reach – just something I always tell the kids to do when running in the open field towards the goal line.
At least it was a very entertaining year and will hopefully continue.
Go Broncos.
Well…overall I think this has been a good year. Hopefully we can back into the playoffs but it’s never a good thing to lose control of your destiny. We saw many improvements in our team. I’m with Coop….I like this team…..I like Kyle Orton. In retrospect, I kept waiting for the offense to evolve and take on a little change as the year went by. It changed a little after training camp but poor execution and mistakes/penalties are the downfall of any team.
Congrats to our fabulous 5 pro-bowlers!!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!
Yea, bummer for the U but they played uninspired football and were flat and the QB was running (trying) to run around on one leg. Randy has another year or so, as he’s still rebuilding the U.
We’re not out yet, we take the Chiefs and see where the chips fall. Remember Orton still has a bum ankle and personally I wouldn’t sneak him at all. I’d give it to Hillis, my opinion. Still like him (no flash) and all LOL!!! Mr. Dull winner with a passing % I’d take over a bunch of other guys, everyday.
He manages the game much like Brady, but needs the time and the O-line has provided that for most of the season and we have just killed ourselves with penalties and 3rd and 4th down (not Blocking). Missed assignments…not a lot of depth…takes time.
YOUNG Team….easy to see…takes time…..we’ve been spoiled in the past, but new everything is just that……. NEW.
I’ve enjoyed the season and hopefully we get a shot at the Playoffs…just the medicine for building an identity and to get a taste or what that feels like. Do I think we go further than one game…maybe one. But we’re not as good as we could be yet……..but we have to play flawless football. Takes time….NEW.
P.S.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
Kick the Chiefs and let the chips fall, right? Be safe out there and be careful of the other guy if your on the road…Luv you guys and gals, I have a lot of fun here….hope you do too!!
