London Blues

November 1st, 2010 - 8:51am by mark_cooper

It’s been a tough week in the neighborhood. My Broncos, Bill down the street’s Cowboys and Jamo’s Steelers all went down this weekend. I was messing with Monster Truck Jamo during and after the Steelers game via text messaging, and all he could do is sulk. NOW that’s funny stuff.

None of the games were though, penalties, turnovers, and T.O.P., special teams, you name it. No excuses, just poor playing against a now 2-6 49ers Team. Tough week. Tougher flight back. Tougher bye-week. We played at Wembley back in the 80′s. It was a weird place, a soccer field, and folks stood up behind these bars in the stands like a corral. They liked their beer warm and we went in early and practiced against the Rams in Preseason, so we could hit new guys versus ourselves. We visited a few places since we had some down time, odd clubs, old everything, interesting history, but I was glad to get back.

Has anyone looked at the standings NFL-wide? Nobody’s lighting it up, and did you see the Steelers-Saints game last night. That’s the way the game’s suppose to be played… wide open 100 miles an hour, in your face football. We gotta get back to that here.

ChargerHater0315 mentioned dog-bone chomping in the camera late in the week and I mentioned that was me after that AFC Championship game because I was pissed from being hit all game with apples, batteries and dog bones. Alex Gibbs, our O-line coach, was hit in the head with Jack Daniels bottle after the game thrown from the stands. P.S. chargerhater0315, Greeley was a cool town to practice in, great people and wonderful fans.

Well, it’s the bye week and I’m kinda glad. Hopefully we can regroup a little, heal up a little and get ready for KC, who’s playing pretty well right now. If you’re bored to death Friday night tune in to www.keysradio.com as I’ll be co-hosting a radio show in the Florida Keys at 5pm MST on KEZY 96.9 FM. Head down to a Celebrity Charity fishing tournament. I haven’t checked the list yet but often I see my old college QB, Jim Kelly, there and baseball greats like Wade Boggs and Tim Wakefield and hoops legend John Havlicek and a host of others. Check out www.redbone.org for the series information and I look forward to your replies.

Wow, I am so disgusted with this team.

Bay had posted earlier about how this team is a joke, and I have to agree. Although I’m not laughing one bit. My glass of orange kool-aid is empty it it won’t be refilled this season.

For an offense that can rack up a ton of yards, what’s the point if you can’t convert that into points? We cannot score in the first quarter, and lucky to escape the half with 3-7 points. Unfortunately we do not have a D like the Ravens or Steelers so not putting any points on the board early has been a major reason for our losses this season.

I like Orton and what he’s done….and this all can’t be put on him. But on the same token, he just can’t seem to get it done when it counts most. He can get it to the Red Zone and then he just chokes. Or, when the game is on the line, he’s just not that go-to guy that can put the game on his shoulders and get it done.

And our D has been AWEFUL all year long. Again, our 3rd down D can’t seem to get it done. 3rd and longs have been converted all year. The play of our D can be summarized on that brutal play where Smith just lobbed the ball up in the air and Walker comes down with it, making Champ and Dawk look like Mo and Curly (whoop, whoop, whoop). Every game our D has given up BRUTAL plays all year long and I’m sick of it.

There is a lot of talent on this team, but it can never seem to come together for a full 60 minutes. And for that, I blame the coaching staff. McD has ruined this team, and until he’s gone, we will continue this downward spiral. I hope to see a coaching change at the end of this season. If we don’t, I won’t be very optimistic about next season either.

But I am still a hardcore Broncos fan, and will continue to watch each game and cheer and hope for the best for the rest of season……as painful as I know it will be. My wife wants me to start a swear jar for each game……..she’s looking to buy some new outfits and knows she’ll have a ton of cash to work with.

So I was the biggest supporter of Josh McDaniels for a long time and now I’m beginning to lose my faith in him. He wanted to have a ‘tough, smart football team’. Well in my mind toughness starts at the line of scrimmage and we’re getting killed up the middle on both sides of the ball. So toughness is out the window….. As far as having a smart team, I have never seen such stupid penalties by a Denver Bronco team which absolutely drives me up the wall. This team is headed in the wrong direction.

And did we really draft Tim Tebow to be a short yardage running back in the first round????? That is rediculous. If he is the future then get him some experience next time we are down by 45 points!!!!!! This team is driving me nuts.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Since I believe that our cash strapped ownership won’t be able to make a move about Josh until after the 2011 season, when Shanahan finally will be off the payroll and McD will be in his final contract year, maybe the possible walk out of next season is a blessing in disguise for the Bronco fans and we can then settle a deal with McD for his last year and start over with a genuine GM and a new coach in 2012. I might just have to really hold on to that thought, sad to say, but it sure would save me some of the embarrassment watching this constant dismantling of our team. 8 more games of Josh sure would beat the heck out of 24 more games with him, just saying. Never thought I could actually say stuff like this, wanting to watch less Bronco games!?!?!?! That’s how deep this McD show has hurt me, sad, sad, sad.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah chick, everything McD says he doesn’t do, the man talks the talk but can’t walk the walk, that’s why I don’t see many players buying what he has to sell anymore, pretty much most everyone has caught on and that includes most of you die hard McD fans.

  5. baylinorcrush says:

And I spent here the last few days explaining why Bowlen won’t let go of McD until at least the end of the 2011 season, so Woody today has a big “revealing” article claiming just the same things. Hi Woody!

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Hey, just read a couple interesting facts if they are indeed correct, they seem to be to me but it would be too lengthy a research for me to back it up:

    - The Broncos last 4 game losing streak before Josh’s time was in 1972, Ralston’s first year as a Bronco HC, that’s 38 years ago folks, and McD has managed to have 3 of them in a year and a half!!!!!!

    - The Broncos have lost every single home divisional game since he got here (4), that supposedly has never ever happened!!!!!

McD has done more damage to this franchise that any coach has ever done before in such a short time, or in any time at all for that matter. That my McD friends, you can take to the bank, no research needed for that.

BTW, McD supporters are few and far between now, is there a big rock somewhere they all crawled under? LOL.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

And I’m kind of seeing what OC just said last night about please don’t use Tebow now because Josh would most certainly ruin the kid. I agree, we have no good D, no running game, the two key ingredients to start a new QB in this league, and so far McD has basically destroyed everything Bronco he has touched, so it makes sense not to start him he would destroy Tebow too. Sorry guys, nothing good to look forward to for the rest of the season, we have gone through the crossroads Mike Rice was talking about for the Jets game and we are now square at the dead end, problem is there are 8 more games to play before we can get off this darn going nowhere automobile. It’s the first year ever it feels great to have a bye week….

  8. footballMANIAC says:

I read an article saying that McDaniels’ job is safe through 2011. Bowlen already is paying Shanahan’s contract still, and McDaniels’ contract goes through 2011. Therefore if McDaniels was fired, Bowlen would be paying three head coaches next season.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Not only Woody is catching on, MANIAC too, haha.

  10. footballMANIAC says:

Actually, Shanahan’s contract runs through 2011 and McDaniels’ through 2012. But he’s still only safe until Shanahan’s contract is up, at least.

  11. footballMANIAC says:

Haha I guess so, baylin. Although in my own defense, I’ve always been willing to point out McDaniels’ mistakes. I just held out hoping he’d turn it around. But no more. He’s beyond hope. His stupid ego is bigger than the offensive line.

  12. BlazinAsian52 says:

I still have a little bit…just a little bit of hope that we can muster a winning season. The only reason why I haven’t completely gone off the deep end is because of what we could have next season. If we get our guys healthy just think of what we can do. We have a lot of talent and having a healthy team would be awesome. There is a lot of work that needs to be done but I think we could still come out of this hole, maybe not this season but hopefully next. There are a lot of “what-ifs” but just think “what-if” we had a healthy team all season long. I really think we’d be better than 2-6.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

To have a winning season we need to go 7-1, hahahaha!!!!

  14. baylinorcrush says:

What do you drink in Asia, Orange sakke? LOL.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

I have the perfect drink to help the orange cool aid drinking dudes absorb the pain, Orange made Grand Marnier, the official liquor of the Denver Broncos, or should be.

  16. BlazinAsian52 says:

I’m just trying to stay positive and keep my real feelings to myself so I don’t get banned from commenting. Besides my real feelings wouldn’t site well with a lot of Broncos fans.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

I tell my real feelings here and never been banned, the key lies in remaining civil and using proper language, arguments carry more weight that way anyway, nobody cares to read a long list of dirty laundry, so have at it buddy, you are allowed, I’m living proof.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

However sometimes they do delete some of my posts, like the one I wrote this morning about the crossroads and the dead end road, poufff, it’s now gone, must of said a word that sounded like a bad word even though I didn’t mean to, wonder what that was….

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Mike Rice must be off schedule with the England trip I assume he took, no sign of his usual Tuesday morning blog yet, something to always look forward to.

  20. ChargerHater0315 says:

Thanks for the kind words about Greeley Coop! Just the most disappointing season of my life so far. Thought this would be a 9-7, 10-6 season but wow…now that would take some heavy duty luck! All isn’t lost…Everybody wants McD’s head on a platter but lets face it not gonna happen! Gonna take some climbing and digging but there is hope. Blaze is right about what could happen next year if these cats can get and stay healthy. McD is doing what he feels is in the best interest of the team to win games…it’s not working. Then he makes changes, and they don’t work…I think though we all should look at the big picture…Broncos not the only team in dire straits here…Vikes, Cowboys…not so good! Shanny benches D-Nice for Grossman in a 2 minute situation? Wow! We’re not alone dudes! I don’t even know what to think about it. I honestly think McD means well but if it’s not working he’s gonna have to get himself the peices to make it work. How many of you guys honestly think Mr. Bowlen would jump the gun and fire Josh regardless what he owes Shanahan or would owe McD…I personally see McD here for at least one more season…if for no other reason than firing him would be Bowlen admitting he was wrong or made a mistake….(I’m still trying to support McD here…don’t hate me!) I don’t even know what to think anymore other than I love my Broncos! Keep the faith people!

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Wow, my posts popped back up, cool.

  22. Kyle Sonneman says:

Sorry about that, there was a glitch in the system.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks Kyle for looking out for us.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

I’ll tell you something that makes me feel good about the Broncos, they are bigger than McD and they will be here long after he is gone, that’s what I need to hold on to now.

  25. Orange_Crusher says:

MrB got rid of Wade Phillips after just two seasons…

I’m sure that there is always a chance for a coaching change if the Broncos continue to tank this season…

If we end up 2-14 or 4-12 I believe that MrB will not let this continue next year… MrB’s got more balls than some give him credit for…

He has always does what he believes is right for the Broncos regardless of cost..

    ILMSDB!

  26. killerkod says:

anyone else having prblems refreshing the bogs? I’m having a heck of a frustrating time!

  27. BlazinAsian52 says:

My real feelings are I feel pity for McD and the team. I pity the fool who lets the Raiders put up 59 points at home. LOL!!!!

I really do pity McD and the team. I mean I know he’s trying to do good and turn this club around and he so far seemingly has failed. I really do know what it is like to try and do good, even if it looks bad, and then have it not work out so well.

  28. Yovi21 says:

I was once a big McD fan but I have since jumped off that band wagon. I say that unless McD can finish this season 8-8 (thats 6-2 in the last 8 games) if he cant pull that off, I say we pull the plug, I hear Cowher and possibly Gruden are looking for new homes!

  29. Yovi21 says:

Pick up Merriman! he might get released today!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

It’s no fun, all the current McD supporters are now hiding, no one to haggle with… If we win against the Chiefs next game they will be back out gloating, maybe?

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

Reports are Buffalo, since they have the worst record(1-6),has the first rights to pick up Randy Moss,I don’t know how that works, but the same probably goes for Merriman, plus we don’t need anymore bandaids, what we need is a good draft.

  32. BeastFromEast92 says:

bay…if we win against the Chiefs it will have to be a mile high miracle,or like a buffalo wild wings commercial, where the refs are tripping them and turning on the sprinklers.LOL

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Anyway, since the very best record we can get now is 10-6, that eliminates 12 bloggers already for guessing the season record correctly, so we already know who is the guy who was totally off his rockers with a 13-3 prediction, LOL, but I haven’t seen him post in ages so he’s probably run off of kool aid by now, that would be:

    ruga_rell 75

Other guys with serious dellusional problems guessing 12-4 records, LOL:

    r8rh8rdude
    Broncfalls
    atwatersdaman

Then we have 8 bloggers who also had visions of grandeur with 11-5 records but to no avail:

    sndvl
    07Elway
    Killerkod
    marshisboss
    caramelloo
    broncofannsd
    broncosmex
    camharland

Next up with 10-6 records are 23 bloggers, but they still have a shot, haha.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

    BFE, LMAO…

  35. baylinorcrush says:

And we are only half way into the season and already 12 out of 55 bloggers guessing season records are already out of the running, it doesn’t get any sadder than that, just saying.

  36. raidrhadr says:

baylinorcrush: I will stand up again as you call out the McD supporters. I’m man enough. I still think he is a good coach. He leaves much to be desired in other areas. However my patience has run thin because:

We have not solved what was clearly, in my opinion our biggest shortfall prior to the season. We need help in the trenches. Both sides of the ball.

On the D-line guys are getting pushed around and even when our LBs play solid gap control and set the edge well (not all the time) the D-line does not make an impact. I’m not even going into the lack of pass rush and I don’t want to hear excuses about injuries either. We are also playing a very vanilla scheme at times. The people we picked up in FA are not getting it done. We suck in this area…period.

On offense our scheme either doesn’t match the talents of the O-linemen or we just have the wrong people playing or both. I’m thinking the latter. I don’t want to hear how young they are or how they need to “gel”…B.S. We live in a right now society and right now our team sucks which leads me to my next point.

Our staff and front office has failed miserably in the time they have been in place. It comes to question if we hired the right people/coaches. I look at the TB Buccaneers and see a young team with a young coach, Josh Freeman playing very well for a young QB. Raheem Morris obviously knows something and we passed on him. How long will the current staff stay in place? I’m certain that Pat Bowlen has a set amount of time in his head. My guess is that if we continue on the current pace. McD is gone at the end of the year.

I have been a Josh McDaniels supporter but my patience is wearing thin. I love the Broncos and hate to see them at the bottom of the stack. I went to my first Bronco game in 1973 and they really kinda sucked then too so I guess life is full of peaks and valleys. Just a frustrated fan venting here.

  37. raidrhadr says:

Bay….don’t know if you ever acknowledged or saw my 7-9 prediction but I think that might be rediculous as well…

  38. baylinorcrush says:

raidrhadr, I think we can about agree on most everything you said as long as you meant McD is a good assistant coach, because if you meant a good HC I would have to vehemently disagree there, he was a good offensive coordinator, he has never been a good head coach.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

No didn’t get that record prediction down, we took those during the last week of preseason and during the week before the first regular game.

  40. raidrhadr says:

Yes we do agree….my hope was that his talents as a coordinator would translate into a successful HC campaign.

  41. raidrhadr says:

well….4-12 looks more accurate at this point.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Like I said on a previous blog, we are McD’s training wheels, just like Cleveland was Belicheck’s training wheels in the early 90′s and he was let go after a losing record there, got back to being an assistant for a few years then got a shot at HC again in N-E, learned from all his mistakes and the rest as they say is history. Don’t know who McD wiill be good with but I am certain it won’t be here. He has to start new with another team later on starting from scratch, he has built way too many ghosts in his closets here, training grounds we are I tell you, we get the shaft, he’ll eventually go on to bigger and better thing, while we will be left with utter decimation of our team. Kills me just to think about it.

  43. baylinorcrush says:

Shanny did the same with Oakland.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

4-12 is what the majority of the media analysts said we would be, and every one here said they were crazy, who is crazy now? we all need to take a good look in the mirror would be my advice.

  45. Big D 44 says:

This is a total side note that will only make sense to those bloggers that are here during the draft. As many of you know I was pushing to get Toby Gerhart as a power back. He now plays for the Vikings. Toby was validictorian at Norco High School and graduated from Stanford in 4 years while playing football and baseball.

Anyways I was talking to someone very close to him. Someone that was sitting right next to him at his parents house during draft. This “someone” asked Toby where he DID NOT want to play. Toby said he didn’t really care but DID NOT want to be picked by the Denver Broncos. He said he felt uncomfortable around McDaniel’s. Hmmmmmm very interesting. I know Toby as an all around good guy. He grew up in a football family. His Dad is the Head football coach at Norco High.

I don’t want to read into it too far but I think its a point worth being brought up. I just found it crazy that Toby picked the Broncos as the place he did not want to go because of his meetings with McDaniels.

A good coach needs to be somewhat of a “peoples person.” People need to rally around the head coach and feel like they have good rapport with the coach. I don’t think McD inspires that.

I thought Bay and some of the old school bloggers would find this interesting. Food for thought.

  46. BlazinAsian52 says:

Big D 44: Its ok their not old school bloggers, they’re just old. LOL!!!

    Just joking baylinorcrush….

  47. S.D.Bronco30 says:

Well Randy Moss is supposed to be waived today so since he is an ex patriot and the last thing we need is a receiver lets see if McD makes a move for him. It would make no sense at all so it sounds like a thing he would do!

  48. danso says:

This blog has become a “me too” pile on beat up McD, the Broncos, the management and the ownership. I still believe we have some damn fine talent on this team and I believe we have a future and yes my 10-6 prediction doesn’t look very safe but I’m in the game and believe we will see a turning point soon. So boo me cause I’m not jumping on the “me too” band wagon. I believe and I don’t even like Kool Aid. Beer is better!

  49. baylinorcrush says:

Beer is the best, young or old, haha.

  50. baylinorcrush says:

Big D44, thanks for that insight on Toby, don’t doubt it one bit, in fact OC brought up the interesting point that maybe Cutler was really onto McD after all, and I said he might of very well have been the first one who saw McD up close with those one on one meetings and had him figured out and did what he could to be shipped out. Marshall did what he could to be shipped out. Scheffler did what he could to be shipped out.

As you know I have been singing the there is discord in the locker room on and off for a year now only to usually be told to pipe down because I have no clue as to what is going on in the locker room.

I think the real question is how can anyone have no clue that something IS seriously wrong in that locker room.
