It’s been a tough week in the neighborhood. My Broncos, Bill down the street’s Cowboys and Jamo’s Steelers all went down this weekend. I was messing with Monster Truck Jamo during and after the Steelers game via text messaging, and all he could do is sulk. NOW that’s funny stuff.
None of the games were though, penalties, turnovers, and T.O.P., special teams, you name it. No excuses, just poor playing against a now 2-6 49ers Team. Tough week. Tougher flight back. Tougher bye-week. We played at Wembley back in the 80′s. It was a weird place, a soccer field, and folks stood up behind these bars in the stands like a corral. They liked their beer warm and we went in early and practiced against the Rams in Preseason, so we could hit new guys versus ourselves. We visited a few places since we had some down time, odd clubs, old everything, interesting history, but I was glad to get back.
Has anyone looked at the standings NFL-wide? Nobody’s lighting it up, and did you see the Steelers-Saints game last night. That’s the way the game’s suppose to be played… wide open 100 miles an hour, in your face football. We gotta get back to that here.
ChargerHater0315 mentioned dog-bone chomping in the camera late in the week and I mentioned that was me after that AFC Championship game because I was pissed from being hit all game with apples, batteries and dog bones. Alex Gibbs, our O-line coach, was hit in the head with Jack Daniels bottle after the game thrown from the stands. P.S. chargerhater0315, Greeley was a cool town to practice in, great people and wonderful fans.
Well, it’s the bye week and I’m kinda glad. Hopefully we can regroup a little, heal up a little and get ready for KC, who’s playing pretty well right now. If you’re bored to death Friday night tune in to www.keysradio.com as I’ll be co-hosting a radio show in the Florida Keys at 5pm MST on KEZY 96.9 FM. Head down to a Celebrity Charity fishing tournament. I haven’t checked the list yet but often I see my old college QB, Jim Kelly, there and baseball greats like Wade Boggs and Tim Wakefield and hoops legend John Havlicek and a host of others. Check out www.redbone.org for the series information and I look forward to your replies.

So I finally got to see my team live after 25 years, rather than on a laptop with a dodgy internet feed!
How did it leave me feeling?
Well I bloody loved it. Yes I was gutted and very frustrated, but I love our young talent. Fumbles and penalties cost us big time, again, and we didn’t get a fair crack of the whip, again.
Should McD go? It depends on what happens in the next 8 games, anything can happen. A couple of flags our way and we’d be 4-4 and contemplating winning our division.
The UK still has faith!
man can we get a new coach please? it could be cowher gruden or mucch. anybody could be better, well maybe not singletary but anybody else could be. D. Thomas should be starting off top or used very more often send his big body down field how hard is that. Goodman is a bum he get beat short and long, Syd’quan should have his spot. Why dont we ever hear our team in dicussion with picking up a talented free agent like merriman and moss?? we got injuries out the donkey and we never pick high quality players up. At this moment we got the right to be FRUSTRATED FANS if thats what yall want to call it knowing its worst than frustration. mcdaniels goota go now, the sooner the better I dont want him to finish the season with us.
Big D 44, I believe it. There`s something to McD`s persona. I can see he isn`t a people person at all. He may play favorites, but only to those who bow the knee. I too was hoping to get Toby, who reminds me of Hillis.
No one talked up Toby like Big D, he was like his agent on this website. I wanted him too, but then again I would of taken Anthony Dixon or any power back. Not McD, he always thought we were just completely set at RB, never even bothered to address it until August!?!!?!
Ya, I remember Big D 44 telling that story back in late March or early April.
Side note. One thing is for sure, the Bronco`s can`t lose this weekend. LOL
UKBroncos, timely you mention the UK still has faith, check out this article, just came out in the Denver Post:

UKBroncos: Congrats on getting to see our boys in person. Sorry we sent such horrible ambassedors to the NFL.
’bout time for Coop to chime in soon…
*** I meant… sorry we sent such horrible ambassedors of the NFL to the UK
Good luck Coop, if I was him I’d be on my way to the Keys and pass on reading these now 310 comments, haha.
Maybe it’s all due to a pattern set by Bowlen. He got rid of Reeves and had Wade Phillps for 2 miserable years . Then he hired Shanny. Now he’s got McD for ……….. ???
It’s possible.
311 to be exact..OMG this is so funny..holy cow I think every name on the squad was mentioned then the back office from firing and hirings to Kool-aide drinkers and rose colored glasses to sugar coating….man are you all the BEST or what. I’m am actually laughing out loud….. LOL.
Funny stuff, you guys are funny, some have given up, some think we sweep out, some have headaches, some don’t care anymore and one asked if we still dance with the girls we have or get reckless on the field and go crazy out there. I say yep, mix it up and go define a running game (if) you can, or find the guys you’ll need to do that in the future, then the subject changed to Moss, Vikings, Cowboys, and came back…LOVE IT.
I say “PATIENCE GRASSHOPPERS”, you say, for what? I say growing pains of a inexperienced team-young team (rebuilding team) and defined that a few blogs ago. Wether we like it or not, other teams have a year and half of film against us and know our tendancies even when we tweak them we can have success, then go downfield…but have to find a running game to control the clock.
Growing pains of stupid penalties that experienced teams don’t make and if they do they are strong enough to overcome them. I look for improvement in baby steps-one-game-at-a-time and see what happens and where we end up at the end of the season.
So now that I’ve sugarcoated it enough. Wut up?
) You know I can’t answer each post individually but I’ll try to pick out funny ones or answer stuff time to time individually BUT I have to be honest with you today…my minds on the Keys and fishing right now, foots halway out the door, …..so can you blame me?? :O) NOT
I’ll check in before weeks end and post again next week. Where do you think MOSS lands?? Hurry and post so we can see who can guess correctly.
GONE FISHIN-COOP
My, my, my…I love speculation. Off the subject, but does anybody else find it odd that McD is about the only person to refer to Pat Bowlen as just plain “Pat” publicly? Everybody else, including Mike Shanahan an John Elway always referred (and still do) to him as “Mr. Bowlen” Maybe this speaks towards McD’s lack of maturation in terms of being in his position…not doubting his knowledge of the game and how it’s played, because I really think he does get it. but maybe he’s just not ready to be the head cheese yet. Maybe he’s not quite ready to give up on the idea that you can just install a sytem and it’ll all be ok. I unlike alot of people find there’s something likeable about the guy…just don’t know if he has the total package to run the team. Time will tell. Gotta crawl before you can walk I guess…just getting kinda tired of crawling myself! I want him to be successful…for all of our sake! Keep in mind there are 53 guys that need to be accountable for their end of the bargain too. Gotta learn to adapt to the way your coaches are handling the situation at hand. Learn to play hard whether they like the direction they’re being sent have some fun out there and work their tails off and then let the chips fall where they may. If the effort is there from the guys on the field, and I’m not convinced it is, then look to the coaching staff for blame. If the players on the team aren’t getting the job done on the field then look to the GM to get in guys who wanna be here and work hard for the other 52 guys standing next to them. If that ain’t working let Mr. Bowlen get a personnel guy in here who’s been there and knows what it takes to put a winning product on the field. It’s not like it’ll be easy but it’s gotta get better sometime, and until then, they are who they are…a 2-6 ball club that’s playing and acting like a 2-6 ballclub.
wow coop, keeping up with all those comments. hard stuff. I myself probably only read 100 of the 300 plus lol
Ive been saying McDaniels wasn’t a people person since last year, but people felt it was best to blame our “problem” players who are not much of problem players on other teams. McDaniels choses who he likes and who he doesn’t. Got a napoleon complex. Answer to me or be gone.
Theres still alot of football left to play, but I don’t see us having some resurgence. Thats why I say put in Tebow, at least then u can say you had a rookie QB thats why blah blah blah happened. Then I will give him the benefit of a rebuilding team, but ALL he has done was in a promise of us being contenders and we are the exact opposite. Give the fans Tebow, at least he offers hope and excitement in what appears to be a bleak season. At this point I think the Bronco organization should start thinking about pleasing the fans another way that isnt winning cuz he are finding it hard to win. so much for my bye week lol
Coopster….It’s hard to take baby steps forwards when we take Godzilla steps backwards,it don’t come out even, just saying.
BTW…drink a cold one for me when you’re kicking back in the keys bro!!
Bay…I’m with you on Anthony Dixon,I mentioned him a few times.
This is just bad. We have officially became a laughing stock. I’d like to share this email I’ve received.
*disclaimer* don’t blame me. I’m just sharing
The Colorado State Police are cracking down on speeders heading into Denver. For the first offense, they give you 2 Denver Bronco tickets. If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.
Q. What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?A. The Denver Broncos
Q. How do you keep a Denver Bronco out of your yard?A. Put up a goal post.
Q. What do you call a Denver Bronco with a Super Bowl ring?A. Old
Q. What’s the difference between the Denver Broncos and a dollar bill?A. You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.
Q. What do the Broncos and opossums have in common?A. Both play dead at home and get killed on the road!
What if we renegotiated McD’s contract and put him at OC, then Hired Gruden as HC then move (or fire) Xanders and hire John Elway as GM? I could dig it!
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well deserved may I add.
What about this one:
Q. What do the Broncos and Billy Graham have in common?
A. They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell ‘Jesus Christ.’
Or this one:
Why dosen’t Wyoming have a pro football team?
Because Colorado would want one too.
Man you guys crack me up……LMAO
Might as well laugh about it,crying don’t work!!!!!!!
I felt guttered on Monday as I watch the feed via NFL.com. I read in disbelief as the Broncos crumbled to the 1-5 49′ers. i thought tthis was going to be a bounce back from the ‘Voldermort’ game, instead we got bounced!
Since then I have watched the highlight reel and concluded that not all was lost, and that we were hard done by with a few calls and it happens. I don’t feel as bad now that I have watched the game, but I think the bye is needed.
@ Big 44 ~ That is very interesting, but we can’t read into that too much as its mere hearsay. I’d prefer not to comment too much on it as its information you heard second hand.
BTW ~ Llyods turning catch TD was phenominal!!!!
Going 7-1 or better is not out of the question, its whether ot not we have the team/game plan to do it. I think we at least have the players, not sold on the coaches yet. heck i seen a lot done with a lot less talent.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
My Fav
“Q. What do you call a Denver Bronco with a Super Bowl ring? A. Old”
sndvl – totally hilarious !! LOL!
@mark_cooper
First – You mentioned a “young team”, but the fact is the defensive side isn’t just experienced, they’re borderline old. The only reason any young guys are out there is to fill in for injuries. Our veteran secondary looked like garbage against a 3rd string QB on a bad team in London. That’s not about transition, that’s just crappy play.
Second – What “baby steps”? Seriously. This team has been going backwards since the end of the Jets game. They’re just a bunch of guys waiting to lose. It’s a disgrace. They’re not giving the fans much hope at all.
I guess we’ll see how it all plays out when KC comes to town. If they lay another egg in front of the home crowd, things will get very, very ugly.
well we can’t lose this week
They are “young” because they have only been together for a season and a half. He is not talking about age. They are a young TEAM, not young players. There is a difference. A young team is one that has not been together very long.
Anyways…
If McD wants to take back the locker room, get the players excited, and get the fans excited then he needs to start Tebow.
We need something different. Even if we finish with a 4-12 or 5-11 record, at least we would gain something in having Tebow under center. Get the kid experience, and give the team and the fans something to look forward to. I think if ya get the players excited, you get more wins. And I believe Tebow would take care of a lot of problems.
He helps in the redzone. We have seen it. And when he is in there on short yardage, we all get excited.
He helps the run game. You put him under center and finally let him pass, then opposing defenses have all new issues. They can’t load the box because Tebow can throw deep. They can’t drop everyone back because Tebow can run. That helps create more running opportunities for Moreno, and it helps Tebow have more success in the air.
He is MOBILE. With all the line issues, why not put in a guy who can scramble a little bit and make plays. Orton looks like a scared old man when he has to “run.” I put run in quotes, cause he more of does this weird “fish out of water struggling for air” sort of movement when he takes off. I would prefer a 245lb QB running over people.
And He helps McD get the locker room under control. Or maybe not. This one has no facts to it. But I feel like he would gain some player support if he started giving the young guys that have HEART a chance to play. God knows we need people who actually care.
We have nothing left to lose at this point. Give Tebow a chance, and give the team some sort of spark. Who knows, maybe be win 4 more games this year. Maybe 5 or 6. 8-8 would be a blessing. That’s a long shot, but I gotta root for something good out of this team, no matter how unrealistic it is.
All I know is if we come off the bye week with Orton under center and lay an egg in KC, I am gonna be more upset with this team and with McD than I already am.
Something has to happen. Go Broncos!!!!
I thought I would pass this along so maybe a few of you would get a kick out of it,I was reading an article from yahoo sports and the title was”Are you telling me it’s Tebow time”.Anyway,I was reading the comments posted about the article, and a Bears fan said,Denver you can have Jay “the interceptor Cutler” back..I never wanted him….
WE WAS ROBBED……I thought it was funny.
Those are good too baylin! Especially the Wyoming one! I was born there.
Oh, so were rebuilding!?! That’s what this is. Why didn’t McD just say that to begin with?
Coop, my prediction is The Dirty. Which makes that home game a little more interesting. That’s just speculation though. Why is he yelling about free food anyway? Hahahaha…
Go Broncos!!
so from the way it looks, unless orton gets hurt hell be our QB for the rest of the year…Even if we went 2-14. Kinda sucks, considering if we lose 2 more games it will be hard to be excited for a game..Even when we had cutler just come in and we were losing, i was excited to see him play and grow..Even though i liked jake plummer. Bah
and i know i know, orton gives us the best chance to win. But he doesnt have that “it” factor..Im sorry, he can win the game when we dont need him, and when we do need him he cant. **or has not shown it yet** I will consider it a waste of yet another year of 2 first round picks if D thomas doesnt get more playing time thats not KO and PR, and Tebow doesnt start. We wont make the play offs. Unless we crapped all over our competition and went what ?? 7-2?? Considering 8-8 wins the division. I love my broncos, but this is just painful and embarrassing. I just hope we get some tebow time so i can have something to look forward too every week if we dont start winning out.
testtest sorry just thought I would try something
i think the problem with this team is on the defensive side. The defense knows the offense isnt going to put up alot of points, but they still let people start the game off strong and let them score and before we know it we are alredy trying to cme from behind.
I dont get it why isnt Jarvs Moss gettig more playing time? we drafted him in the first round because he was a great pass rusher and he really never got a chance to, give him a chance now, we need to get a pass rush going so that we dont have to blitz i mean whats the worst that could happen
also, does anybody know if were intrested in getting shawn Marriman? I honestly think that gettig merriman would be a great pick up especially with the defense struggling.
Also, i think we need to get Hill and Goodman Out of there i mean they both constantly get burned all game. I think we need to give sydquan thompson and david bruton a chance likei said whats th worst that could happen?
what do u guys think?
There is a new blog on.
Merriman are u serious he hasn’t done anything but get hurt since he had to quit the juice ! and seriously moss he cant stay on a team longer than a week hes in need of meds the guy has just plain LOST his marbles !!! like allot of these fans!! yes things have been hard but seriously ppl need to quit thinking getting this guy or that guy is going to save the season ? we have been in every game if ppl have been watching stupid mistakes laps in concentration have cost games more so than coaching we should have at least 5 wins at this point sept 4 us beating ourselves ! i love Orton but his fumbles have as much more to do with at least 3 looses so far and I’m pretty sure that isnt coaching ! and if u dont think bowlen knows exactly why were loosing you underestimate the man the whole division is stinking thank god we win the rest of the divisional games we win the division were 2 games back ppl are acting as if its impossible 2 win ? And enough with the Mcd jokes everyone who is whining about him now were the same ones who taught trading cutler was a mistake and Orton has blown him away since the trade and b- marsh pls B-lloyd has smoked him ! lasty i find it funny in at least 3 posts ppl say Mcd cant pick players and then say we should sit someone and play one of the young players he brought in ! keep your words Sweet u may have to eat them soon !!!! GO BRONCOS the 2 moths after the bye are ours just like this division !
I understand the growing pains. Pain is also a good description of watching it! I digress…. I actually like the potential of our young O-line. I’m optimistic the communication will improve and the missed assignments will disappear.
We definitely need an infusion of youth in the front 3 though. I suppose a pass rush would help in the TOP department (missing Elvis), and thus aid in not being so worn down in the 4th quarter. Either way this team really needs some added depth in the front 3. This team is a completely different ball-club when Vickerson goes down. We really only have one viable 3rd man in the DE rotation, and that’s Marcus Thomas, who has played very well, but has had limited snaps at RDE.
Anyway, my ramblings don’t help anyone. Good article Coop-
Dennis
@wild horses
Obviously, facts aren’t your strong point.
“we win the rest of the divisional games we win the division were 2 games back ppl are acting as if its impossible 2 win”
We are 2-6. Do you understand? 5 div wins + 2 wins = 7. 7-9 is not going to win this division. The Chiefs are already 5-2. Oh, perhaps what you really meant is that the Broncos will win every remaining game to go 10-6. If you really believe that, your grip on reality is very tenuous. This team is in total disarray and look like crap on the field. There is no magic fix that is suddenly going to have them ripping off 8 wins in a row.
You want to cling to false hope, fine, go ahead… but it’s you who are going to eat your words when the Broncos pick up that dreaded seventh loss soon after the bye.
Coop – I hope you have had a great time with the fishing, just wish I was at the Keys.
Thanks for your wisdom and extolling the virtue of patience, but I don’t have to tell you that sports fans are not patient, so it would help if you could give us an idea of how long you think it will take this team to develop.
Have we got the best HC for the job or should we change him? What do you think of McDaniels.
When should we start using Tebow, and do you think he will make it?
Let me share with you a interview we conducted with Joe Ellis that’s on Espn.com and Fanhouse right now. I told you I go to the horses mouth not talk radio!! Like I said everything goes through Pat!!!
Not sure what’s worse for the coach of a sinking team — getting a vote of confidence from team brass or not getting one.
In the case of Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, a vote of confidence was noticeably lacking in comments made by Joe Ellis, the team’s chief operating officer, to the Denver Post.
Ellis spoke to the Post in the midst of the Broncos’ bye week on behalf of owner Pat Bowlen. Ellis said Bowlen is in good health but is stepping back a bit from the spotlight.
Ellis told the Post that while Bowlen retains confidence in McDaniels’ coaching and in his ability to turn the season around, he stopped short of guaranteeing McDaniels would be back for a third season as the team’s coach.
The team has lost four in a row, including a 59-14 loss to the AFC West rival Raiders in its most recent game at Invesco Field at Mile High two weeks ago. The Broncos went into their bye at 2-6 and in last place in the AFC West following a 24-16 loss to the 49ers in London.
McDaniels apologized to Bowlen and Broncos fans in general after the lopsided loss to the Raiders but that’s done little to stem the wave of talk-show criticism, much of it aimed squarely at McDaniels for his oversight of the team.
“We’ve had a culture of winning here under Pat Bowlen for 27 years,” Ellis told the Post. “When that started to slide (under Mike Shanahan) there were expectations that when we brought in the new head coach that would change immediately. When that didn’t happen as fast as our fans wanted it to — we all wanted it to happen quickly — there was a lot of angst among our fans.
“Then you take into account the start we’ve had this year, with the type of loss we had with the Oakland game at home, and the fans’ emotions and feelings are understandably raw in terms of their anger and disappointment. Pat understands that. Josh understands that.”
Ellis said team management wants to see a turnaround as much as anyone and understands that’s the best way, if not the only way, to win back the faith of the fans.
“Because of the way that game went, we made our apologies, we told everybody how embarrassed we were through our head coach and players,” Ellis said. “But those words right now ring hollow. The only way you can win back the fans’ trust is to earn it on the field by coaching better, playing better and performing better and winning.”
Mr. Cooper,
I hope the fishing in the sunshine state went as fantastically as I think it would. Shallow, big water means big fish! Some of my family lives in Florida and have talked about the amazing heat this year. How has it affected the fishing down there? I’m sure the event was a great mental break from the Mile High Melodrama that continues to hang over Denver and the corresponding sports air waves. I have another question and I’m sure you have another answer. The season may have a mile high miracle left in it however it is always better to plan for the worst and hope for the best. That being said; as a coach and as a player, what do you do with the remainder of a season that has you at 2 wins after being 9 games in. Do you make whole sale changes and get younger players time on the field to get them experience as well as getting extra time to evaluate them? As a player, and yes I remember, a gladiator, do you ever take the mind set of saving yourself even if its in the most minor extreme, for the next season. The question of where the Broncos are going to go for the remainder of the season has been beat to death and I feel that even Josh McDaniel’s isn’t completely sure what to do. As you have been very clear in your message; this is a young team in the front office, team administration, and overall personnel, I will listen to your counsel and be patient however having a more concise set of ideas to chew on can only help my personal debate of what I think will happen. Thanks again and warm sun and smooth water to you!

Good stuff as always and good jokes and yep, I got the same e-mail and that was funny. I turned the Broncos part to Cowboys and sent it down the street to my neighbor.
Fishing was as tough (cold front) as I’ve seen in 20 years at the Redbone Tournament in Islamorada. 20+ winds. Day 1, 26 out of 36 boats came back with a goose egg, nadda, zilch, skunked, etc. You get my point. Day 2 was worse and that’s 2 anglers per boat in this Redfish and bonefish tournament. Did bring home honors in Celbrity division and Team Grand Champions with my partner Tony Ortega a buddy from Miami. We caught over 50+ redfish day 1 but all came in under the 18 inch rule, except 1. Day 2 we caught 3 bones on bait. Talk about tough and it was warmer here than there….BUT being on the water is great therapy and the radio show was fun too.
archangel77, there’s no such thing as saving yourself at that level or you get hurt or cut and are sitting at home wondering what happened.
Greatness007, interesting interview, I missed that one. Where is that so it can be read by all of us?
Crazyhorserider, you have to give a head coach 4 years whether you like him or not to see how he molds a team or not…by year 3.5 you have a good idea. Rebuilding…period right now.
BeastFromEast92, I know, I know but rebuilding is tough on everyone especially the fans……..was cold.
I agree with a bunch of you on we didn’t (L) one this weekend…now that was funny…hadn’t looked at it like that?
BIG KC week and my little 11-12 year old Creek Blue (AYL’s youth team) is undefeated and headed to the Superbowl this weekend so I may miss some of the KC game and I KNOW I can count on you guys to fill me in RIGHT? We play at Regis Sunday at 12:15 Kickoff.
Mr. Cooper,
Thanks for the fishing report but sorry for the cold front. It seems like every place from Denver to the west coast got your sun shine. Good luck to your team on Sunday.
The KC game should be intriguing to say the least. I’ll be interested to see what changes the Broncos have made over the coarse of their bye week. At this point in the season the game almost seems to be an academic study of how a young team handles adversity. More than anything else it will be good to see the Broncos take the field again. Here in San Diego, all I have been hearing about is how the Chargers are going to beat the Broncos next week then climb to the top of the AFC West. I find myself wishing for heavy solar activity when this happens!
On a side note; rumors are starting to crop up that there is a new legitimate organization that has put together a proposal for a “Sports Complex” in L.A. that may be designed to house at least one NFL team and that team is more than likely going to be the Chargers. Do you have any feeling about the need for an NFL team in L.A.?
