K.C. Jinx?

December 5th, 2010 - 4:01pm by mark_cooper

Nope don’t think so. No Jinx. Players play and coaches coach.

Here’s what I saw, and I know this will get some folks lathered up. I saw what I thought was a pretty good game plan. I saw a lot of jawing and finger pointing and hustle and “want to win” attitude. I liked the attitudes, I hope this creates more of a rivalry again…maybe?

What I also saw was bounce passes, guys not lining up on the line of scrimmage (penalty), sack given up and fumble recovery by probably one of the best left tackles in the league. (It happens to the VERY best sometimes). I saw guys on defense get hook-blocked on sweeps, poor coverage, not separating from being blocked, NO pass rush and guys doubled that stopped rushing, DB’s that got beat early in the route and more. I saw lineman open/turn their hips to the backfield, and I saw false steps. Dropped passes, throws behind and out of bounds….I can keep going.

So what am I getting at?

Players play, coaches coach. Our guys were in the game till the end with what I’d say was a good game plan and WE didn’t execute as players. You’ve heard the players say, “WE have to play better”. Yes, they do.

Today I didn’t really watch the game, I watched individual battles much like I would watch film as a player against an opposing team or player….and that’s what I saw. Not unlike every other game in the NFL because there’s no such thing as the perfect game by 22 guys and special teams.

Our guys have to play better. We had a chance — throughout the entire game we had PLENTY of chances to get even or ahead and make a play. These things come with playing together more and consistency builds when you know what the guy next to you is doing. Every play is critical when you have a team that is struggling. No one can have a let down.

This Team is a few plays away from playing with anyone in the league when they execute the game plan flawlessly. We’ve seen that. Sure, we could use more guys at a number of positions but that will come with time. Only time will tell, right?

I have the patience. I hope you all will too.

Also, I’m adding the following from late in the week last week that I ran across for folks that don’t want to use their tickets and for those of us that want some.

I found this site that I didn’t know existed until the other day.

You can buy and sell tickets there, so there’s absolutely no reason that folks who don’t want to support the team can’t sell and someone that wants to support the team can go buy, right?? No excuses!! The stadium should be full every week.

GO BRONCOS!!

Since I hate the Raiders most of all, I can’t even find solace into that they beat the Chargers, I guess that’s what happens once you are out of it, it doesn’t really matter what happens with the rest of the division, at least we will play the spoiler role against both of them later on, very small satisfaction if by a miracle we can succeed.

McD would never take a demotion on the same team, if he is gone he will be OC for someone else.

I was at the game this weekend and I am with most of you. Not a lot more about the game to be said that has not been covered. I am with bay and carnage on their McD assessment.

What was the most bothersome of the game this weekend was what I experienced from the Chiefs fans, and I am not talking about the friendly heckling. That is expected and in a way fun banter back and forth. It was the fact that they were chanting cheaters, cheaters, cheaters and making videoing taping references, one guy had a fake video camera he made out of a box and it said property of the Denver Broncos on it. There were all sorts of comments about McDaniel’s and his character (or lack of). These are all thing that have come from ammunition McD has given them through his general BS. Yes I know trash talk comes from opposing fans, especially division rivals but it used to just be simple comments about not liking a player or you jacket sucks, normal trash talk. Now McD has given them things that make the franchise look dirty and disgraceful. It has never been that way in Broncos history, they could say they did not like your team but have never been able to bring the character, image and pride of the franchise into question. I have heard trash talk from other fans before but usually ended with I don’t like them but they are a great franchise. McD is destroying the great reputation of our franchise fast.

S.D.Bronco30, thank you very much for that very valuable insight.

It is exactly the perfect example of why Bowlen will be left with no other choice than firing McD at year end. No matter how good McD would ever get to be here, we would always be regarded as cheaters by the football community at large, everything will for ever be tainted, we lose, we are made fun of like in KC yesterday, we win it’s tainted because we are cheaters, that’s the way it is now, no way around it, you can never re-write history. An end to this regime is the only cure.

Defense played well I thought. It’s kinda hard to score when your QB throuws the ball into dirt though. The worst was McDs decision to punt with 2 and change left. When you are down by four late in a game that eliminates you if you lose, I don’t think you punt and play defense. You gotta pull out the best play yoiu’ve got and let your team go get a first down. To me it was a give up call. Thankfully this season is almost over. I’m sadly disappointed in my Broncos, and as much as I love ‘em, I’ll already looking to year year. I’ve got 4 tickets for the Houston game that I can’t make it to and I probably couldn’t give ‘em away right now.

    nevillejames,

Read the last paragraph of the article by Coop. Theres a place where you can go and give your tickets to a fan that wants to show up at Invesco and get humilated by the Broncos….lol

    Just kidding, I couldn’t help myself… I’m a bad, bad fan!!! haha

  7. nevillejames says:

OC – you’re not a bad fan – just tryin’ to ease the pain a bit. I understand! Just don’t quit on ‘em!

McD didn’t go for it on 4th down because even he has no confidence in Orton. Orton immediately goes limp as soon as the pressure is on.
Come on and put Tebow in to give us something to be excited about as a Bronco fan. Wanna sell tickets and get support? PUT TEBOW IN!!

  9. bronco-blaze says:

Here comes the cookies….No for reals though, im dissapointed in many aspects, but saw that our defense showed promise. Our weakness lays within our defensive pass rush and Kyle Orton. I was saying before the game i wouldnt mind losing out and getting a high draft pick, but the true bronco fan in me still got mad as all heck on sunday.

-The fact that we punted i agree with 100%. Why give them a shorter field for a possible field goal when our defense was our life line the whole game. Punt the ball..Back them up, and have out d make them punt and give orton a better chance to look at what the heck he had been doing so poorly. Lets face it, we go for it on 4th orton woulda just ended the game the same way he entered it.

MCDANIELS SYSTEM IS PERFECT! However , it is missing its biggest player and that is a qb. Our defense is what is killing us the most besides Kyle Orton, and that is because of scheme and pass rush. I hardly see any rushes on the outside, and when we do , they work…. We rush up the middle and get picked up ALL THE TIME! The only thing that works is a delayed blitz from a LB it seems…Any way, now that our O line is fixed (in my opinion) I saw we give mcdaniels another shot. ONLY IF HE SWITCHES QB’s…Tebow has what it takes, even though people dont give him credit. Ive seen him make throws that i couldnt believe, even in pre season.

He can put the ball on the spot so accurately on the run which is amazing. If we just calm him down and make him want to stay in the pocket well be fine.
PEOPLE question his throwing motion….Well we wont have to worry about it if he gets the ball out quickly. IDK about all you fans but the thing that pisses me off the most is seeing Orton get 5+ seconds in the pocket and he throws a terrible pass or into triple coverage. Thats un-excuseable and makes me sick.

Not only will Tim play a big role in this offense, he can add a different dimension of offense by running the ball. And behind our O line that would be epic.

LETS FACE IT , though we havent seen Tebow yet **and it makes me sick to my stomache** there is a reason. Im wondering if tebow hasnt gotten a good enough grasp on the play book, or if mcdaniels doesnt want to take the chance of ruining his carreer.. I saw this because say he goes in and play a good D in the chargers and raiders ok? And does so terrible (cuz hes a rookie) Though us fans will suport him, the media will eat him alive and say ” he is who we thought he was” And i dont think mcdaniels want s to ruin his confidence…I have a strong feeling hell start or play ALOT in the cardinal game..But thats not good enough for me.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

As I have said many times my take is Tebow is McD’s joker card, his way to buy himself another year, if he plays him now and he flops then McD is most certainly out of Denver, since all his cards will have beeen played, on the other hand if he waits until next year to make him the starter, McD can use him as the carrot he desperately needs to dangle in front of Bowlen’s face to attemp to get another year to prove himself. Hope I’m dead wrong and he starts Sunday.

  11. Yovi21 says:

HA Wiemin, the Browns are starting to get better because we gave them a pro bowl running back for a 3rd string receiver lol, that sounds so bad!

  12. Yovi21 says:

    oops I meant QB!

  13. baylinorcrush says:

And we gave them potentially two draft picks, one in 2011 and a conditional one in 2012, don’t know what the conditions are though, it seems as if Quinn wouldn’t meet any of them, LOL.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

    Except expert clipboard holder….

  15. broncofan6453 says:

Execution comes with good coaching, something I haven’t seen all year. At least not for a whole game. There is no excuse in the world for Mcd not to play Tebow. We have to see what we have going for us in the future. We should be getting a pretty high draft pick in the 2011 draft. Please Mr. Bowlen do not let Mcd or Xanders make the pick, we want someone that can play right now, plus we need plenty of defense linemen & linebackers that know how to hold their position.

  16. broncofan6453 says:

I forgot, we need pass rushers (good ones).

  17. baylinorcrush says:

Woody is not mincing his words about McD, check out the no guts, no glory article today in the DP, doesn’t sound like McD would have what it takes to go down a black diamond slope, I used to make my home in black diamond slopes, haha.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

It’s actually the third game this year I can remember that in the final minutes with still an outside shot at getting back into the game, McD just took the safe way by punting the ball on fourth down and it turned out he never gave the team a shot at the win, this wasn’t the first time.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Talks the talk, can’t walk the walk, talks a big game, can’t produce one, talks tough, whimps out…..

  20. Yovi21 says:

I was a big supporter of Orton at the beginning of the season, but now that our season is in ruins and we are now eliminated from any playoff hopes (even miracles cant help us!) please just do one right this season and let Tebow play QB! hear me out coach, he has heart, he has size, and he has speed! He’s the complete QB! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A STARTING TEBOW!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Not that it matters anymore, but here is the latest sad news for Mays:

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels announced today that linebacker Joe Mays and tight end Dan Gronkowski would be placed on injured reserve, a transaction that ends their season.

  22. baylinorcrush says:

Even sndvl of all bloggers is now asking for Tebow!!!!!

  23. oldsouthstander says:

The second half had to be one of the worst coached halves of football ever perpertrated by a Bronco coach. Every time the Broncos ran up the middle in the second half, it went for huge yardage. Even the TV bozos were commenting on it. So what does McD do? HE STOPS RUNNING IT!!!!
Orton was obviuously have an abysmal day, while Knowson was tearing off big runs. It doesn’t take a genius to stay with what’s working.
    GGGGAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Well, at least we’ll almost certainly have a top 5 pick.
I can’t see us beating the Raiders. BBBLLLEEEHHH!!! Now I’m going to was my mouth out.
    Arizona is a probable.
    Houston is a maybe.
    San Diego is no hoper.

  24. monodono says:

    WOW.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

Coop, you can come clean now, McD has been fired, hahaha.

  26. jlalum01 says:

I wish Coach McDaniels well. He has a family and tonight that family is going through a tough time. Hopefully in his next position he’ll make better choices and not put his employer in an embarassing position. That being said, I would like to see a head coach that is a proven winner, is passionate about winning and won’t except some of the mental mistakes that Coop mentioned in his blog. I would like to see someone who players will run through a wall for. One guy comes to mind. Bill Cowher. Either make him a GM or make him head coach but he’s the guy that can turn this mess around.

  27. dbroncs7583 says:

for the love of god people quit saying bill cowher would be a great coach. I do not want that slobbering scowling bafoon on our sidelines…if he was hired as the next head coach i would seriously find another team to cheer for.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

If a bafoon looks anything like a baboon, I would agree with that, LOL.

  29. monodono says:

    COOP!
Crazy stuff huh…. I’m in shock, I know it’s not a popular stance but I think The Broncos should’ve honored Josh McDaniels’ contract. This is as bad as Cutler wanting more money before His contract was up. Bad Karma, But it is what it is…

COOP, who would be your first choice for Head Coach? Personally I wanted to see Coach Dennison move up the ranks to Head Coach when they hired McDaniels, and I hope Mr. Bowlen calls Him back for an interview. Rick Dennison IS A DENVER BRONCO Through and through. He Belong’s There….

Just sayin… Who would be your Dream Coach?

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  30. ChargerHater0315 says:

Quickest way to end all of the Tim Tebow for President talk is to fire the only man in the NFL that thought he was gonna make it as a QB…Not saying anything bad about Timmy T here…just speculating the next HC may not see him as the future of Denver QBs.

  31. Bellstar says:

    What is the Bears record?

  32. Bellstar says:

The nightmare is over Mcdaniels terror is over. Lets take stock on what has happened to our team. We lost Cutler, Marshall, Hillis, Stokley, and Shefler all under Mcdaniels leadership. We picked up Moreno but he is not even close to being a back like Hillis. Lets face it Hillis is a throw back player he can do it all. I just need to quit looking back at what we gave up; I get cold chills.
Where do we go frome here? We need a head coach who nos the pulse of Denver. Not a import from another team.
I like Kubiak. I no. I no, he hasn’t got over the hump but he nos the Broncos. Maybe his GM dont give him what he needs. Just remember Bowlen lets the head coach have GM rights. He might reconsider that after he realizes what Mcdaniels has given away. Enough said about Mcdaniels.
After all we have been through Id like to thank Pat Bowlen for this change. I hope we look real hard at getting an experienced head coach who understands his ego shouldnt be higher than that of the team he manages.
