Was in the Keys chasing tarpon (they won, by the way) and having a little get together for my wife’s 50th, fun stuff. You all know I’m an ole Miami boy so I get back to the Keys quite often to fish tournaments and fish on my own. While there this week, we did a Friday night radio show with Gary Dunn (former Pittsburgh Steeler) and Jimmy Johnson (everyone knows him) and Capt. Bill Kelly our host and myself.
It was a hoot. We discussed the fact that the U had a 14 year run of first round selections until this past draft and they have a long way to go to get back to the status we once had. A few fishing stories were told and and we got into a debate in which Jimmy agreed with me that when a defensive lineman (Gary Dunn) gets blocked they think they were held (me) cry babies.
Jimmy’s opening a new Restaurant & Bar on the water in Key Largo called the Big Chill next to the old Caribe Club and has a grand opening this weekend for Memorial day. Terry Bradshaw and a bunch of former Cowboys will be there.
Jimmy lives in the Keys and is one of the most friendly guys you’ll ever meet. Gary Dunn owns the OV (Ocean View Hotel and Sports Bar) across from the Theatre of the Sea in Islamorada, on Windley Key.
We sang happy birthday to my wife at the bar/restaurant with a slice of Key Lime pie. We talked about the charity tournaments we participate in and and all the athletes that have shared their time with the public and kids during the events to make them such a hit.
On the home front….I have to be honest, I’ve been glued to the tube watching the Nuggets play incredible basketball. We’re only about six weeks out from Bronco camp and things are a little quiet, so the Nuggets have been a breath of fresh air with a new attitude and fight.
Kind of an update rather than a Broncos Blog this week, I was on the move between Key West, Marathon and Islamorada staying at different friends houses and actually forgot my data cord for my old laptop I take to connect to my phone for internet connection.
The tarpon are in full migration and it’s a pretty interesting spectacle to see in nature. Big fish!!
yeah how about them Nuggets last night, im looking forward to the game tomorrow, i say nuggets win in 7 games, going to be a grreat finish.
Hey, Mark. Love the Keys. Went scuba diving down there with the dolphins. Had to get out of the water early when a school of barracuda moved in. Nice place though. Happy belated birthday to your wife. So Bradshaw is going to visit Jimmy’s place, eh? Rub in those SB losses that the Cowboys suffered, lol. Yeah, the Nuggets are looking strong. Stomp those Lakers. Broncos are in a slow mode, as you said. The football withdrawals are bad right now. I feel like Dr. House without his vicodin, ha, ha.
Hey Coop!!! Great to hear from you. Sounds like you’ve been having a blast and a good summer so far… me too!!! Taking a breath of fresh air myself from school, got the entire summer to myself and a little bit of it will be given to the Broncos. So excited to go to the Broncos Fan Fair… would be hilarious if you were there but I would bet a million bucks you’ll be fishin’… lol!!!
And as usual I’m going insane without any football to watch… offseasons and me do not get along very well. Can’t wait to see our new defense this year and super excited to see Dawkins work a little magic with it!

Both of the NBA’s conference finals have been magnificent. Of course, I can hardly wait until the NFL returns again as I watch the Broncos dominate!

Nuggets are going to kick some butt tonight. As tough as they played the Lakers in L.A., I’m thinking they win it in 6 and sweep them at home. This ain’t your mothers Nuggets team and you have to love watching them play! Go Nuggets!

Dynamicdave, Thanks for the birthday words for my wife, we had a blast while down there goofing off, fishing, etc. Dont let those Barracuda scare you they’re all teeth and look menacing like D-linemand but really are puppy dogs….won’t mess with you promise. Been scuba diving since 1973 there and all over the Caribbean.
07elway, thanks too, she had a blast and on the Fan Fair, yep you’d be a millionaire as I’ll probably be fishing, hee hee. Nah. Headed to Turneffe island next month to chase some more tarpon and maybe have better luck…so far Tarpon 1, Coop 0.

Had Ryan Clement over for a bar-b-que…you all know that name, he’s a homer from the Pinery here in town, that went to Mullen and then the U and had a wonderful career at Miami as one of the top QB’s. We reminisced about the the tearing down of the ORANGE BOWL. I’m still upset about that.

Ya buddy we’ve been catching. My friend Jerry caught a five pounder last weekend at Antero Res. My brother caught one at Spinney MT. Res. The fish are on fire up there.

Rock fish??…you guys have me lost…he talking about the bonefish from last years trip to Andros fishing with Crazy Charlie. I’ll toss up a picture of a tarpon sometime.
I’m happy about Brandon too!! Now if we can get the guys on the same page in mini-camp and the upcoming camp, the offensive should be dangerous.
