Thomas, Tebow, Marshall, Scheffler

April 23rd, 2010 - 10:50am by mark_cooper

Been in and out of the country for the last month emceeing a few charity events so you haven’t heard much from me. Both benefit Cystic Fibrosis. Boomer Esiasons raised money for kids in Costa Rica which was wonderful considering how much they need the support. Was in Costa Rica at Boomer Esiason offshore event in Golfito, Costa Rica, and on Abaco in the Bahamas for the Bakers Bay Celebrity Bonefish Classic. I know, I know…. poor Coop, right. Well, it was tough doing business on a satellite phone and as most of you know, I work to go fish. :o )

P.S. find a charity and do something that’s helps someone less fortunate.

DAY ONE: Love the picks, yep, what do you think?

Thomas: I got to see a lot of him over the years playing against the U. Love the size, speed, blocking ability and a pure number 1. Good to go and he’ll replace the Marshall just fine, with a little time.

Tebow: Love the attitude, size, arm, and I think he’ll become a great QB in this league, reminds me of a Testaverde, (except) Tebow will have great coaching from the get go, Vinny did not. We’ve talked about that before he regarding Quinn.

Marshall: No one said this in the press so you get to hear it here first and THINK ABOUT IT…Miami?, really. I grew up there and was in high school during the 70′s and at the U in the 80′s during the height of the drug cartel. I could write a book about the storys, but watch a documentary. My father was a policeman as were all his friends, so I heard it all. South Beach starts at 2AM and goes to sun-up. Think he can resist that limelight. Nah. There’s a latin “Machismo” he’s never experienced in Miami that most folks don’t know or understand. Ever watch CSI Miami? It’s not all TV, promise. Those boys carry.

Miami’s a tough place period. The U lost a player a few years back to that element whether they want to admit it or not. I hope he reads this or someone schools him up because I would never wish the worst for anyone. I hope he does well, he has all the talent in the world, but often that doesn’t matter….seen it too often.

Scheffler: Go get em. “Wait a minute”, how do you catch passes from a QB that’s on his back or on the run all the time. This one reminds me of the Cutler trade. Hey Tony, Jay threw 27-29 INT’s can’t remember the number because he was being run all over the field and you can’t throw completions when you’re laying on your back.

Day two’s up: What’s your take. Love your opinions.

I’m trying to find Tim Tebows page on facebook so I can friend him.

  2. 07elway says:

LOL, if Tebow has a Facebook page, that would be the only reason I would join. I think we all know I have a thing for QB’s… haha, now I get to stare at Tebow in Bronco Orange & Blue. Life is good, my friends, life is gooooood.

Anyhoo, yeah I hear ya, there wasn’t much to talk about before the draft so I just never came on here at all. I too, am loving what our front office did in the draft. I think it was a MAJOR step up from last year’s draft. There’s a ton of good talent that’s been spread out to all 32 teams and I’m tellin’ you, it is going to be one wild season. But most of all, the Broncos are gonna be ready for battle once the season starts. Now you got me all excited. Dang, I was just starting to calm down cuz training camp is 3 months away. Ahhh, I can’t stand this! I bet I’m more amped up then you are. After we picked Thomas & Tebow, I was ready to see ‘em suit and play. This is gonna feel like the longest 3 months ever.

So next order of business around here… give Doom his contract already!! I think they’ve been waiting till after the draft to do so, but seriously come Monday, I want to see him back on board. We need that guy so badly. haha, I’ll start calling him the Doominator. ahahaha That came out of nowhere but I like it.

    Keep the faith Bronco Country…
    GO BRONCOS in 2010!!!!

  3. BeastFromEast92 says:

07elway I agree we need to give DOOM a big fat long term CONTRACT.

  4. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

Eric Decker should be a great value. Very excited for pre-season. I can already see 07Elway and all the other girls joining his fan club by training camp. LOL

  5. baylinorcrush says:

For those interested and who have not seen it yet, I posted the results of the first three players taken in the draft contest yesterday in the “2010 NFL Draft First Round Live” blog in the April 24, 7:40 am post.

  6. kase78matt says:

beast i hear ya between tebow and quinn i see bronco gettiing a lot more fans of the female specimen haha

  7. raidrhadr says:

Anyone else think we should add Alan Faneca to the roster for depth? Not sure what he has left in the tank but it would seem wise if he’s still a viable asset. Coop…any thoughts?

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

  8. caramelloo says:

raidrhadr ….. I don’t think we should add Faneca! Normally I would want a Louisiana guy since I’m from Louisiana but I don’t think he has much left. We have alot of young talent on our O-line, and it’s time to let them mesh together.
I think this is the year where we let guys play and learn by taking their licks. I think this year we get close and in McDani’s 3 year we put the stamp on the vision he had when we got him.
07elway…. yeah sis I know your bucked up. When we drafted Tebow all of my friends who are die hard Saints and LSU fans called and text me. Some were asking how I felt and others said that the Broncos were now their favorite AFC team.

  9. whitebronco#1 says:

Yeah, caramelloo, I don’t know if Tebow will solve all our on-the-field problems, but he’s certainly solving McD’s problems with bashers. LOL.

  10. caramelloo says:

Hahahaha @ whitebronco#1 yeah I hear ya. I think one of our problems was we had no leadership on the offensive side. We had it on D with Dawk, Champ, and others. We didn’t have anyone step up and comand sometimes demand the offense’s attention. I think Tebow brings a lead by example type of feel to the offensive side. We hadn’t had that since Elway. All the other Qb’s we had were lead by selfishness with the exception of Kyle. Not to knock him but he just went with the flow.

  12. broncos20 says:

    Nice post Coop…

Hei, anyone know when we start signing undraftees???

  13. BeastFromEast92 says:

broncos20 Just as soon as the draft is over,it is open season on CFA’s (college free Agents) so it started last night, there’s a post on here in the last blog(I think) that someone put up that showed us signing a lot of CFA’s,you’ll just have to search to find it,good luck.

  14. bronco-blaze says:

Is Any one else annoyed by beh behs face when he got drafted in the first round by us..? He looked like “Omg….Not the broncos..” Maybe im looking to much into this…But thats BS

  15. caramelloo says:

Here’s a list of the unoffical list of our undrafted free agents….

LS Clint Gresham TCU 6’3″ 236lbs This is one way to take advantage of the last G/C position and it is likely that if he works out, he will go straight to the practice squad.

TE Nathan Overbay Eastern Washington 6’4″ 262lbs An actual TE signing, and a top quality one at that. Needs to work on his routes, and he will be a 2 year developmental blocker, but he could be one of the more well rounded UDFA TEs to be signed overall.

DT Jaron Baston Missouri 6’0″301lbs With this signing Denver is officially carrying an extra OLB/DE, as Baston a traditional interior DL. He may benefit from attempting to move outside, but he is likely a 2+year developmental prospect who still has room to bulk up and play inside, if given time to develop, with proper tutelage.

TE Michael Palmer Clemson 6’5″240lbs Smart player with good understanding of routes, and good field awareness. Better receiver than blocker who can catch like a possession WR. Not a polished blocker. Yet. Averaged 11.8 ypc on 43 grabs in 2009. Solid pickup that straddles the roster division between WR and TE.

CB Cassius Vaughn Mississippi 5’10″180lbs A little more DB depth to keep rounding out the group for camp. Smaller in stature, but has flashed the big play at the key moment. Could be a nice PS addition.

DE Brandon Gilbeaux Delaware 6’3″282lbs Speedy young interior DL with the versatility to slide between DT and DE. Could be a solid addition to the interior special teams units, and knows how to get his hands up into passing lanes. Could be developed as a pass rushing end if he can put on a little weight, but currently could be a bit to raw to contribute.

SS Marty Bowman Boston College 6’2″218lbs The right measurables get him on the board, and he is just a hair short of being an obvious priority free agent on talent alone. His height is good, and he is strong at the line, so he’ll get a bit longer look.

OT Chris Marinelli Stanford 6’6″300lbs Excellent addition who was a 3 and half year starter at Stanford. Good technique, not ex ceptionally quick, or athletic, but very sneaky player who runs well for his size. Terrific developmental prospect.

WR Alric Arnett West Virginia 6’1″188lbs Junior college transfer who runs excellent routes, catches outside of his frame, and has a good understanding of spread and quick passing game concepts. Very good hitch and bubble screen runner, who is elusive underneath and can slip through blocks undetected. Questionable motivation and drive.

TE Riar Geer Colorado 6’4″256lbs Big, sit down style blocker who gets the edge sealed effectively, and knows how to get out into the soft spots in the seam. Great hands, rare drops, doesn’t let the ball get into his body. Works to the ends of plays and finishes off his blocks. Great addition.

OL Micheal Shumard Texas A&M 6’5″305lbs Another BIG OL, primarily a guard, but with LT experience has a ton of experience under his belt, with 40 starts for the Aggies. Particularly good pass blocker, the Aggie line was one of the better groups in the nation.

RB Chris Brown Oklahoma 5’10″210lbs Not the huge bruiser that we were all expecting, but a quick back who looks like he runs slower than he does, due to a slowing effect he has when he cuts. Needs to keep working on his pass blocking and blitz pickup, but has natural athletic ability and is a good mix of pass receiving and rotational rushing.

OLB Kevin Alexander Clemson 6’2″250lbs Stout player with decent speed and agility, but above all, a tremendous work ethic, which could make him a contender this summer. He is a durable player who notched a lot of snaps and a lot of playing time, yet didn’t accumulate a large number of starts. A borderline talent.

  16. broncos20 says:

hei thanks fellow fans, BFE and Caramello

I see we addressed TEs in the undraftees, a lot of pressure on Quinn to step up.

I see we’re sticking w/ our own ILBs (and the addition of Ayodele) to see who has what it takes to stand nxt to Dj and Doom..speaking of Doom, when will we hear his contract in the works??hopefully soon…

Eagles got the two players i was hoping for ( MLB Channey and RB Charles Scott)

Buccaneers got undraftee Jevan Snead, he may have prematurely entered the draft..IMO

  17. caramelloo says:

Anytime broncos20, yeah I wanted us to snag Charles Scott as well. He is a tough power runner. I’m with you and everyone else…. let’s get Doom signed.

  18. brian_schneider says:

Overall I think we had a better draft this season than we did last. Would’ve liked to seen another d-lineman selected but maybe we’ll look at the CFAs. Decker reminds me of McCaffery with his playing syle, I think that him and Stokely will share time in the slot. Thomas I think with Royal will be our #1 and #2 guys, order yet to be set. I’m glad we worked on stouting up our OL, versatile guys that can play multiple positions. Couple of CBs, hmm wonder what’s going on there… Tebow..well what can I say. We at least have a good thing going, I mean we have Orton and Quinn, so its not like we have to throw him into the fire just yet. McD can develop him yet and hopefully again prove the critics wrong.

  19. broncofanlvnm says:

What I like after this draft is there is going to be good competitions going on for QB, OL and WR. Other areas too, but especially those. Should help really improve the offense. And with the improvement in the OL, should help the running game and in turn open up the passing attack also. Orton will still be the guy this year, but I think he’s gone next year. Brandstater most likely be gone this year. I don’t see the point in keeping 4 QBs on the team.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Brian, the abondance of CB’s pick’s simply shows the beginning of the end for Bailey’s run as a Bronco, just my opinion.

  21. rebelbronco says:

John Henderson just got released from the Jags! We should sign him, and then have him and Williams rotating at NT. Wow! That would keep them fresh all game along with an improved running attack on Offense! Look out that would be huge for our D line. Go get him McD!!!

  22. brian_schneider says:

    Nooooo baylinorcrush, LOL!
Yeah, I know Bailey’s getting on the “experienced” side. I’m just in some weird complete denial about Champ’s run as a Bronco being over sooner than later.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

About Champ, not only the getting there in age for his position factor, but the also that he is not a real good example to follow for the youngsters as far as some of the very unorthodox technics he uses, additionally he is not an irreaplacble leader of men per say, and his contract is coming to an end, just too many things not working in his favor, of course all this is just my opinion as usual. Feel for you though Brian, he has done great things for us and will be most likely entertaining us again this upcoming season, but it very well might be his last here.

I’m willing to bet this will get a new discussion going, LOL.

  24. Orange_Crusher says:

I read somewhere that Champ will move to safety after next year.

I think Champ and Dawk got two good strong years left in them.. at least I hope they do..

  25. Orange_Crusher says:

I’m puttng together a Black List for all of the commentators that are gusshing negativity about the Broncos and Tebow..

    #1 Jamie Pukes
    #2 Mel Keester
    #3 Collin Cowhead

I’m waiting for word from Stink, I really don’t want to have to black list him but he hasn’t been very positive about our new direction.. We’ll see… He has an opinion on ESPN at 1:00pm MST.

I noticed tha TJ wasn’t too happy about the Tebow pick.. I hope he comes around because I really respect me some TJ…

  26. kase78matt says:

to any1 questioning will tim tebow make it as a bronco…. hes use to a spread offense welcome to denver haha… he has a slight problem with throwing motion and footwork some wha adjusted before the draft but once again welcome to denver… not saying tom brady wasnt good going in to NE but when he got there he wast a hope to be starter but with time under a decent qb and time working in the right system with a great qb coach look where he is… heres a break down of whats a good system and good coach can do for u: Kyle orton in 33 games with chicago had 30 TDs and 27 ints, 913 attempts 505 completions for 5319 yards and believe it or not in 2008 he was sacked 2 less time then he was with us in 2009. with denver kyle orton threw for 21 tds 12 ints, 541 attempts 336 completions for a total of 3802 yards… Tim tebow will do great… and if he doesnt we have these stats to look forward to out of orton haha

  27. brian_schneider says:

Champ is one of the best CB to play the game. When you’re the best you can get by with leaving your hips open, playing off or on a bit more or less, or being able to make up being out of position. McD maybe wants the younger guys to absorb as much as they can before Champ leaves or retires.
The only reason everyone is hatin’ on Tebow is because he was taken in the first round ahead of Claussen. If Tebow would’ve been selected by us in the second round no one would be having a fit. Everyone is linking the Tebow pick to McD’s success or failure. I think that Tebow has more of the intagibles that you can coach than Claussen, while Claussen may have been more “pro ready” I think Tebow has a bit more ability, regardless of his throwing motion. While some may disagree, I’ve never seen a coach look back and say, “you know if I didn’t draft (insert name), I’d still have my coaching job.” O_C those three that you mentioned never have gotten over the Cutler thing.

  28. Orange_Crusher says:

Stink is probably more of a Redskin/Shanny man so I already know what he will say….

  29. sndvl says:

OC- I would listen VERY closely to what Stink and TJ have to say. They played. Know what it really takes. So I would take their opinion over any of the media types. Dukes, who knows what his deal is. And as far as the Mel Kiper thing going on, he has been doing this for a living. So his opinion does hold some weight. Whether we agree or not. Some of the regulars are turning McDish and bashing everbody who doesnt fall in line. How can someones opinion be wrong????

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

Champ is only 31 or 32 I think he still has another 3 or 4 years left, after what he has done for us there’s gotta be a role for him here till he retires AS A BRONCO.I know he got burned a few times last year, but I was surprised he was threw at so many times, that was because of Goody doing such a good job, anyway we ranked 3rd in pass Defense last year,so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,let the young guys learn till it’s their time to shine.Darrell Green played Corner till he was 35 or 36,he’s no better Corner than Champ.IMO

  31. sndvl says:

And Ty Law was what? Close to 40? lmao
    If McD lets Champ walk…

  32. BeastFromEast92 says:

sndvl if Champ don’t retire a Bronco I’ll be the 1st to bash McD and Mr.B,you don’t let a man like him walk, you let him play as long as he wants,or until his play starts to decline. He’s still better than 90% of the Corners in the league at any age.

  33. brian_schneider says:

Ultimately it is up to Champ. If he doesn’t think he can get a ring with the Broncos, he’ll probably go somewhere that he has a better chance. Champ is a guy, I think would want the ring more than money. We could offer him a ridiculously high contract, and he might still want to go to a team willing to pay him less but has a better chance at winning the SB.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Bailey will be playing the last year of his seven year contract this year, 63 million by the way, so he will need a new contract for the 2011 season and beyond and he will then be 33. At that age a corner’s abilities to recover on certain routes are starting to diminish, he has already slowed down speed wise which is why he is using those different techniques, as he is a hard hitter he could move up to safety as suggested by OC, where he could remain effective a bit longer, and he could possibly sign a 3 year contract and finish his career here, or like Brian says he might want to finish up somewhere he could get a ring, or it might just be that McD is not anticipating that Bailey will be here past this final year of his contract, for whatever reasons, hence the bringing in a multitude of CB’s these last few days. We could easily have a contest on what will happen with Bailey in 2011, LOL, just kidding. Whatever happens, he will always be a great Bronco, made more money with our team than I believe ANYONE ever made here, so either way it goes, it will be all good, no one will be upset on either side, everything will have worked out for the best, specially if we get a ring this year, LOL.

  35. Orange_Crusher says:

Well sndvl.. I’ve always been McDish and I don’t bash anyone for not seeing things my way. I just bash the bloggers who bash my team. It’s easy enough for them to say “I don’t agree because” without using putrid names to call the coach just because they don’t agree with him. You might get a kick out of that kind of talk but I don’t.

As far as keeping a blacklist of the professional commentators that don’t believe in the Broncos. I just want to be able to look back in a couple years and see who all was wrong. It could be me?

I just think it is a lot easier for many bloggers to beetch and moan and predict doom and gloom and later if their wrong they can just act like they were on board all along. On the other hand it takes a lot more balls to say “I believe in this coach and this QB”..

As a true blue Bronco fan it is my duty to try and see the positive things there are to look forward to with my team. True Bronco fans don’t come to the Official Bronco Blog and call the coach schoolyard names and predict the team to be “Forever Doomed and Distroyed”..thats what the DP is for.. I think the players read these blogs and need to know that someone believes in them and in this team…

Maybe you’re mad at me for bumping heads with 1NYC??

  36. baylinorcrush says:

NYC? New York City? Man I am glad to live where they make real salsa, hahahahaha!!!

  37. kpadgett7 says:

i am a gators fan and now tim tebow went to my favorite nfl team. i am sooooo happy. GOOOOOOOO BRONCOS

  38. mark_cooper says:

Great to see some of the old bloggers back!!

Hey beastfromtheeast, or anyone else, I hate to start a rumor but a buddy of mine in Missouri texted me this evening (late) I was a t a hoops tournament down at DU when he said that Clady tore a patella tendon playing basketball??? Anyone hear that? I’d hate to hear that because I’ve had that injury and it’s a tough one to come back from inside 6 months.

I didn’t get a chance to verify or look it up anywhere, but I pray that’s no the case as that would hurt a lot. I’ll check in the AM.

Funny story, this morning the news is running the story on the Tim Tebow jersey being the top selling jersey, right? Well my 11 year old says, “hey Dad, will you buy me his jersey I really like Tebow.” I responded with, “really, what do you like about Tebow”, he says, “He’s going to be the next John Elway, then it will be me”. How funny is that?? Cracked me up, guess I need to go look for a #15 jersey.

S.D.bronco30, I like the Decker pick a bunch and you’re right about the Eddie Mac comment.

07Elway…I think you were just proposed to?? That could be a first here on Broncoland blogs. Last semester?…. you go girl!

  39. raidrhadr says:

Well Coop unfortunately you know by now that the Clady rumours are true. I wish him a speedy recovery. I saw one of my buddies get a medical discharge from the military from a patella tendon tear. I’m sure Harris will be moved over temporarily.

Anyone think Kevin Mawae should be considered? We missed on Faneca.

caramelloo: I think we wiffed on Faneca. Apparently the Cardinals think he has something left. I agree on getting the young linemen some reps but a veteran guard like Faneca or center like Kevin Mawae might be necessary. Alot of pre-snap communications come from the center. We don’t have a guy on the roster right now with the experience at the NFL level to get it done. Especially in our complicated system.

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

  40. 07elway says:

haha, yeah and the one who asked never did answer my question as to what it was I said to make him ask me that. Buggin’ me. I think I’d call it a random question. Came out of nowhere! Guess it was meant to confuse me… cause its working. lol

Thanks Coopster! I will be VERY glad when my time at school is over. I can’t take much more. Just 2 more weeks… that’s all. I think I’ll survive?? lol I’d be glad to send you an invite to the party I’m having before the graduation!!! haha, man that would be sweet! Hey, a Bronco fan can dream can’t she?? lol

And it is too bad about Clady but I’d rather have it happen now in the offseason than in the middle of the season when we need him the most, if this sort of thing is gonna happen. I wish it hadn’t, of course , but he’s got the time to rest and let it mend. I’m envisioning a strong & more “beastly” return from him in 3-4 months or so. By the time his healing time is over, man, he will be ready to rock ‘n roll. Just 3 words of advice for Clady… don’t rush it!!

    Keep the faith Bronco Country…
    GO BRONCOS in 2010!!!!

  41. 07elway says:

Oh and that would be quite the sight to see if a little “mini-Coop” became the next great QB for the Broncos. LOL And they have Tebow jerseys all ready to be bought on nfl.com. Its the only place where I’ve seen them.

  42. mark_cooper says:

Crazy end of the month for me in real estate so I neglected my duties to get on here……..kinda quiet until Woody started talking about trading Orton this week.

I had to laugh as it was quiet …….and “never a doubt” the mainstream will dig up a comment or story since they have to sell newspapers this week…wow. I can’t even comment on that as it’s just filling dead airtime.

I’m a little shocked how quickly everyonme got over the Marshall trade versus the Cutler deal. It just rolled off everyones back…………..curious if you all have any ideas.

The Cutler tirades went on and on and on last year. Maybe with so little success in Chicago folks think the same think for Marshall or is it/was it everyone’s glad to have him gone to start over???

Like the Champ move call of the fututre discussed above as it makes a bunch of sense and yesterday or the day before I was listening to someone say you can’t win a Superbowl with a mediocre QB….it’s been done a bunch and I really believe you have to have a great defense to win the Superbowl and a average QB can get you there easier than no Defense.

07elway, Yea the Tebow jersey is soon to be on the “mini-Coop”, so he’ll have to play out the rest on his own and shoot me an invite and if I can make I’ll stop by, you can send it to afccoop@msn.com…easy to find on the internet….selling real estate and helping folks with financing. Fun stuf but I have to laugh at todays contracts….like winning the lotto.

raidrhadr you and I may be the only guys worried about him. Maybe hs surgery/recovery will be different and technology is that much better. I had a should er redone a few years ago and I was pleasantly surpirsed how un-evasive it was and I was throwing a fly rod within 4 months and won a tournament within 6 months that I had been trying to win for years down in the Keys…………..”always a competitor”…that’s just me.

So “HEY” hope all you Mothers out there had a nice Mothers day and you all told your Mom’s how much they mean to you if they’re still with us, or sent them a nice prayer if they’re not. My Mom’s 83 and doing well. God bless our parents no matter where they are.

So what’s next and on the horizon since its’ a little quiet??

Send me some pictures of yourselves in bronco stuff and I’ll run it by the powers to be to post. Let’s have a little fun till mini-camp cranks up or just some fun stuff that others can see online here. afccoop@msn.com

    COOPSTER

    ONE LAST THOUGHT:

O.K. picture this: Second series “Opening Day”….backfield has Tebow, Orten or Quinn in the Wild-horse formation…..what does the defense do?

    WOW!!!
