Is the Raider Rivalry Over?

November 23rd, 2008 - 8:56pm by mark_cooper

I don’t know about you but I didn’t see anything that resembled a rivalry today. A loss 31-10, nobody showed up and the crowd left early. That really, really bothers me.

Is it over? Maybe it is. Hmm, I’m not sure how to handle that one as I’ve never-ever thought that rivalry would end. Heck, I got a little grumpy just thinking about it last week. I know that sounds weird, but maybe is “post NFL stress disorder.” Somebody call me a doctor. :o ) Seriously!!!

Don’t blame the coaches — blame the team. I’m not going to even name names. I know how HOT a lot of you are, so let it out.

This is a young team that doesn’t know how to win yet. Win is really not the right word. They need to consistently show up and play hard, week-in and week-out.

Sure they have their moments and shine. That’s what a young team does. They have a few comebacks, they have flashes of brilliance but day-in and day-out they just haven’t figured it out yet. It will come. I really believe that, but not yet.

What we saw was a team playing to the competition. Not good enough in this league…college you can get away with it…not here…not in the NFL.

I know they learned from it. You could see it in their faces.

I try to put these types of games behind me quickly and look to the Jets, because “OLD MAN FAVRE” is on a roll.

Big game this week…we’ll see how our young team responds.

But I still can’t get over the lack of the rivalry.

Hi everyone !!! I think The Broncos as a team has to learn what we learned in high school. Run 12 miles a day, period. Learn from Muhammad Ali, Thats what we were taught stay in shape you can out last anyone. I am a small guy but I got in lots of street fights (i’m reformed now. LOL ) but as small as I am (165 lbs) I knocked out a lot of big bad dudes just because I out lasted them. Even now I’m 47 years old and I work 20 year olds to tears. If in fact The Broncos already run a minimum of 12 miles a day, they need to double it. Running is the key. Knowledge and skill are useless without stamina.

Bend Bronco Believer, whoa you’re just like my high school football coach. You’re right though, I’m a firm believer in that type of philosophy.

I agree with most of the post here but lets face it folks, your as strong as your weakest link and Dre Bly simply has to go.How many receivers can you let make huge plays against you and not adjust? If it was a once in awhile thing, you could say “well,it happens”but cmon,Dre is giving up a huge catch every sunday.(please if im wrong tell me).Im a huge Bronco fan and have been since i was born but the reality here is obvious:Dre Bly has got to go!!!

  5. dnvabroncomaniac says:

LBWilson56 I hate to say, but Dre’ is in the way speaking in terms as to becoming a better defense and stopping offenses from scoring on us so easily. He has been too inconsistent with his performance and I dont hate him at all but enough is enough he needs to step up and play much better otherwise I think we should trade him away or just release him.

I wanted to add in one more thing… there is no way this Bronco-Raider rivalry is over. This loss should only infuriate that rivalry even more than it already has been over the years. The fact that they came to our house and left with a win and we did the exact same thing to them in week 1 – that alone should create more tension between these 2 teams and should only add passion to our fire to beat these guys twice every year. When we lose especially to a division rivalry team – that only makes me want this team to beat these guys even more.

So to answer the overall question, “Is the Raider Rivalry Over?”
    — Absolutely NOT!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

  7. broncfan99 says:

i dont think the rivalry is over far from it.what i do think is that we do have alot of young players that do not have a clue what this rivalry is about or the history behind it.this team young or not showed no visible emotoin or hart that they wanted to win this game idk if it was lack of preperation or exicution thats to blame for the outcome of the game but i do no that they shouldve showed alot more pride than they did

  8. monodono says:

Allright we let it out. good. COOP how are the Broncos goint to control Brett Favre, Leon Washington, and Thomas Jones? This one is going to be tough. I think if the O Coaches can call a Ballanced game and keep them off the field it would be a big help to the D. That’s right I’m going to say it again … TIME OF POSSESSION! and again TIME OF POSSESSION! and again TIME OF POSSESSION!

    GO BRONCOS! ! !

  9. monodono says:

    TIME OF POSSESSION!

  10. BRONCOSFAN01 says:

I have to agree with Broncfan99, I don’t think that this team plays with any heart at all. They go out there on the field and expect to have the game handed to them. This team needs heart and leadership to win games.

  11. RNST says:

    Buuuuuuuu

  12. HomeTeam007 says:

GUYS, EVERYTHING HAS BEEN SAID HERE….EXCEPT…. BRONCOS, WE ARE THE FANS, WE WANT YOU TO BE BETTER, BUT YOU, THE PLAYERS NEED TO WANT IT MORE, MORE THAN THE CRAPY RAIDERS, MORE THAN THE OTHER NY TEAM. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT WHEN THE BRONCOS START TO SHOW HEART SO WILL THE FANS. THE BRONCOS DRAW FANS FROM ALL OVER THE MIDWEST AND THE COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN A TEAM FROM THE SALT OF THE EARTH. DENVER IS NOT THE CITY OF SUPERSTARS BUT HARDWORKING HEROES. PLEASE STEP UP TO THE PLATE BRONCOS. TREAT EVERY GAME LIKE THE PLAYOFFS.

  13. monodono says:

    WOW! NICELY SAID

  14. monodono says:

    COOP
give us something new to talk about, I’m ready to move on to the next game. Who’s going to be the next Hero? How will the Broncos contain the Jets O? Did you see the Broncos waived Rogers? How is Pittmans neck? Or have you been fishing lately? anything to change the subject of who did what wrong or who should be fired, that’s just crap.

    Oh ya TIME OF POSSESSION!

    GO BRONCOS! ! !

  15. monodono says:

    COOP,
Did you see T. Davis & S. Sharpe are semifinalist’s for the HALL!

TIME OF POSSESSION, GO BRONCOS! ! !

  16. monodono says:

TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION, TIME OF POSSESSION…..

Broncfalls: You said “I WOULD LOVE TO SEE DEFENSIVE TEAM STATS AFTER WEEK 8 ON!!!! I would be willing to bet that Denver is a VERY MUCH IMPROVED SQUAD! and why? Because they are learning how to win, they are learning to make changes via playmakers and ability.”

I realize there stats are better than earlier and that they are playing better. It couldn’t get any worse than the first half of the season. However, look who we played. We have played some poor teams and have still not looked very good. The Raiders exploded on us and they are the worst offense in the league. The Patriots put up 41 points on us, the Dolphins had 26, the awful Browns had 30 with a first time starting QB, and the Raiders had 31. The ONLY game we looked OK defensively was at Atlanta, so how do you think the D has been A LOT better. There was 1 good game at Atlanta, and a good first half against the Raiders. Other than that it has been bad. I’m scared to see how many points the Jets will put up this week. Our offense is struggling, so this could be ugly. Maybe they will surprise me and play well, but I’m not confident in our team right now. My guess is that they will keep it close in the first half and play fairly well, but then the 2nd half will be completely different. We do this a lot. We just don’t adjust well and get outplayed in the 2nd half.

  18. mark_cooper says:

monodono, Sharpe in, first pass, TD a few times through the process. Might head up the hill today for the afternoon hatch. :o )

57Yellow T-Bird, some leadership is there and developing but doesn’t happen overnight, it takes some time with all the rookies. It’s a work in progress, but you’re right, more is needed.

BroncoBoyest95, said something that made me laugh…YOUTHQUAKE…exactly right. It’s tough to swallow but it’s the reality. I like what we have and can improve on so I’m over the Raider game and a few of you hit the nail on the head. “Time of possession” will probably be critical this week or a few turnovers in our favor could make the difference and the D will have to play 4 quarters and consistently to beat the “OLD MAN”.

I have to say, I love the old dinosaur. :o ) Anyone that can play that long is my hero. Have to admire that talent.

O.K. that’s over now we need to hit him in the mouth and get out of New York with a WIN!!

    Go Get Em BOYS!!!

  19. Evil14u says:

hate to say this, as I’m a fans for over 30 yrs now! But unless we get it together, our season is done! I only see 1 game we can win and that’s the KC game, so that’s 7-9 season and SD could be 8-8, so we’re out?? I see so many bad decisions this year, I’m going crazy! Why we let Lynch go for MCree, Lowery or Rodgers??? Hell, Fox is a better safety than those 3! Cutler, has no composure or class! He looses it every time. Look at him, he gets frustrated easily, like Marino, a great stat QB, but never won anything..He throws the ball like crazy and too many interceptions! ANd our D,,,,not much more to be said…I read over and over about how young, people forget that’s what these guys get paid for! they’ve been playing for years so it’s either play hard or find another job!! I agree that this team has no fight, no balls!!

Well since im 5.10. it would have crossed my mind.. the exectuion part im not su sure about..ANY WAYS.. The rivalry still lives on..

Know that NO Raider fan is safe in Scandinavia…(unless he is 6ft or taller, then he can walk in peace)..
    Love tha Broncs

  23. broncfan99 says:

warrior football#14 your right cutler is no elway YET give him time to improve and face it it took elway more than 2.5 years to get to the playoffs so let cutler do his thing and grow and mature he is going to become one of the best qbs in the game in a few years.as for all the chances he takes and ints he throws take a good long look at the qb that we play this week do you rember how his career started off in green bay kinda the same right and isnt he going to the hall of fame when he finally retires

  24. mark_cooper says:

Evil14u, glass half full? Cutlers no Elway, but Elway was not Elway in the early years either..I was there…and the media wanted him gone too..I hear the same stuff from you. Patience grasshopper. P.S. Marino was a winner…it’s a team sport, he went to the Superbowl his first year and Kelly’s a winner too. I know, played with him in college. Thanks broncfan99.

warrior football #14, sorry, Bly’s not the worst DB in the league, where do come up with that stuff?

Mondono? where you at, caught a few fish on the Colorado a few days ago :o )

    Mark,
First, met your wife the other day, great lady.

    Second,
How did Rick Dennision ever get to be an offensive coach after being such a great lindbacker? Never figured it out.

    Thanks
