Not new but wanted to sit a day or so to think through these and see who else might get let go with Bonus money coming up.. Understand the finance aspects and have seen the Broncos looking at the TE from Notre Dame. But really was curios on your take on these?? Any thoughts.
Also, love the extension for negotiations…hopefully they get something done so our guys get to work together under Coach Fox as much as possible this off-season. Need every day we can get.

milehidh magic i we have two shut down corner were are the QB going to trow at, and strandoftds we do have a pass rush in DOOM also i believe ayers will contribuit more and maybe have a break out season (most players have that break out season in theire third year on the league) also we defintly will take a DT in the second round so you never know if ayers pans out next to DOOM and we draft an impact DT in the secon round we could have a good D-LINE
I think Marcus Thomas is primed for a breakout year as well…
I’d still take several good d-linemen and a bunch of bad cornerbacks over a group of great cornerbacks and an average d-line any day. If you have a truly elite front 7 you can have Shrek and Donkey at CB and still have a good pass defense.
I’m just saying, Ayers already looks injury prone and who knows how Doom will bounce back from his injury. Plus we really have no one at DT now that Williams and Bannan are both gone. I know we re-signed Vickerson but he’s a rotational player at best. So if you ask me our D-line looks to be somewhere between questionable and bad right now. We have to get that help up front. I know this is a deep draft for DT, but if we have a chance to get the best one why would we wait until 6 or 7 of them have come off the board to finally take one in the 2nd when it’s by far our biggest need? I’m sorry but no matter how I look at it I can’t see Peterson being a good pick. When you’re picking in the top 5 you don’t have the luxury of picking the best player available, you have to pick the best player who fills your biggest need. Teams picking in the top 5 have way too many holes to fill to pick the most talented player regardless of position. You can’t create a balanced roster if you avoid filling your biggest needs when you have the chance. So even if Peterson is the greatest player of all time, we don’t have the luxury of picking him. We’re downright bad right now and the only way to get better is to address the biggest needs first, that’s the sad reality of rebuilding. At least that’s how I see it.
Sorry everyone. I keep saying I’m going to leave this Peterson debate alone but I always end up back on the topic. I’ll try better next time, LOL.
mmhm88,
Ive told my self in my head i would leave it alone as well (even tho im the instigator half the time lol) but I cant either. Gives me something to talk about around here and i enjoy hearing rebutals and hopefully we can convert 1 or 2. If we are talking rushing the QB, thats one thing, I think we are already good in that territory with doom and ayers (doom mainly since we havent seen ayers at DE) … most teams only have 1 dominant pass rusher non the less. So we have that and we can also blitz corners….when i hear the argument for DT, I think of run stuffing more than i do getting after the QB (even tho they do both). I think Marcus thomas is poised for a good season and i believe both him and vivkerson and who ever we draft (hopefully in the 2nd rnd) will be good for now. We cant fix all the holes now and if i saw a dominant guy like Suh this year at DT i would be all for it. Suh was undoubtedly the best player last year. These guys are good but in a true elite draft class at DT thewould be mid to late round first picks. all of them are just good, not much distance between em in my book. Anyone can be good and anyone can be a bust. These top guys are not necessarily the best. For example i think Paea could be the best, maybe not in college stats alone but I hear that guy is humble as pie with great work ethic. Hunger wins out over talent half the time (not to say the top DTs aint hungry as well). I think you are wrong in your thinking of a top pick, its not for the best player that fills your greatest need, its nice if it works like that like it did with the rams last year and other teams, but suh wasnt exactly the lions biggest need, it was a need however, like peterson is. Plus they needed suh to ancor thier DL in the 3-4. Now that we need DTs not a single NT … I believe they are slightly less important. Champ could be gone next year (even tho i believe he will finish a bronco) either way he will be gone soon or stop playing CB and move to safety, I would like to have peterson there, rather than taking a shot with a less talented CB in the draft a couple years from now. But no one knows tommorow right? lol
sndvl
Woulda been so nice if we had Marcus Thomas and Tim Crowder (2007 2nd round pick). I think McD dropped him due to the switch to 3-4 and he is finally showing some life in the 4-3 in tampa. He is no sapp but he is picking up.
LMAO! Donkey! Nice one.
How about 1.Dareus/Fairley and Paea ???
One helluva Dline:
Ayers-Dareus/Fairley-Paea-Doom
Front Seven in 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our defensive line has been really bad the last few years. BUT! it wasnt that bad 2 seasons ago, the last 8 games it was. We had an offensive coach in “he who must not be named” that knew nothing about coaching a defense, and im pretty sure its safe to say that Martindale was a very bad choice as d-coordinator. Our defense looked so confused all the time, they had no idea what they were doing, and hold the coaches responsible for that. Im not trying to say our defensive line wasn’t bad last year though. BUT! now we have a defensive minded head coach that knows everything about coaching a defense and defensive line. I Fox’s presence alone will make our defense better.
I would like that to but I have a feeling Paea is going to be gone and i don’t think we will waste our picks to go back in the first and get him, but would be nice BFE. BTW how have you been haven’t seen you on in awhile?
Oh and by the way, if we do aquire another second round picks and we have 3 second round picks, then we DEFINITELY need to get Peterson. We could trade 2 seconds and move into the middle of the first round if we wanted too.
Or maybe, we could tell tebow to gain 50 lbs and he could be our defensive end. I bet tebow could pass rush like a caged animal. Lol….
I think we make Tebow lose 50lbs and play CB. I bet he could cover Bowe with ease. He would be better than Peterson.
haha probably, Tebow can do anything! I can only dream we take Peterson…but I don’t have faith in the team drafting him. I will take any linemen but Bowers, he still has a knee injury and I don’t want another injury prone player or a player coming off a knee injury!
hahaha here is a good one for you Mikeyb1203. If having a GREAT front 7(or great DTs if you like it specified) is far more important or have a more significant contribution than to have good DBs(or CBs if you want me to be specific), then why the Texans have struggle SO MUCH, despite having a awesome talented offense that scores a bunch of points and probably my favorite front 7 core(this guys are HARD AS A ROCK) in the NFL? Because DT means nothing if your secondary cannot be trusted! So don’t give me that “DT is more important than CB” thing because there are 11 guys out there, everyone of them with their own assignment, sure DT “are involved in almost every single play”, but that would mean nothing if they can’t do anything to stop their opponents to put points on the board! A great talent like Peterson can’t be ignored when you are picking this high on the draft! Great potential shutdown corners out of college are not as usual as excellent DT, just sayin’! That would answer your approach of the “DT vs CB Draft priority comparision”, there is not many potencial playmakers at CB in their very 1st year like there are DT every year!
If Peterson do his job, what he is meant to do as CB, that is as valuable as the effort a great talented DT does at the line of scrimmage, so I think your point is dismiss of the value of the DT contribution over the CB’s!
Only thing I can’t argue is we have bigger holes to fill than CB, but in the spot we are, we have to take not simply the best player(in my opinion), but the safest/cleanest pick of the year!
I can see us scratching our heads 3,6,10 years from now if we don’t pick this guy! I can tell you that. Very good DTs would be available for further rounds, and we still next year’s draft to finish the defensive overhaul, maybe we could fine our guy at DT next year, if that is your concern, don’t expect us to be that good even if we go DT on the 2nd overall this year, we still need at least one more year and you know that!
Patience could be very rewarding… There is always next year!
Yovi and TRB, I am with you and you guys inspired that post, just sayin’ LOL, I think very similar about the draft’s approach! Ohh, you too freak30, we are on the same boat I think! LOL
Anyways, besides what I think of Peterson and the way I’d work on the draft, I believe the team might be more interested in a DT with that pick, I would love to grab PP but DT wouldn’t be stupid at all(only if we grab Dareus LOL)!
Williams and Bannan’s cuts makes me feel very pessimistic of getting PP.
Hope I’m dead wrong….
I will tell you the same thing I tell my fiancee. There is always exceptions to every stereo type. Just like the 7-9 team going to the playoffs weird things happen, not only that but I would not even put Houston’s front 7 on an all-star ballot. Lol I feel like I am arguing to a brick wall and I am sure ya’ll feel the same way.
We have to take Peterson. Trade up our two 2nds if we can get a good dt. Don’t like the idea but might work. Or trade down if the offer is still guaranteeing us Peterson. Maybe we pick up a dt through the trade down with one of 2nd rounds. I still think rookie lineman is not as effective for a starter compared to a Peterson. So Peterson and with our two 2nds go for lb te rb. I wanna see Tommy Harris or Darnell docket or either Williams from minny or even Albert haynesworth than a rookie starting. if we can shore up all those other positions. Te lb rb and Peterson trade someone and draft pick from 2012 for frontrunner dt to be effective now. We need at least 1 power rushing dt that is not a rookie. I would not sell the farm on our d line when dawks goody and Bailey almost retiring. Cox hill and mcbath left not on my comfort level. Peterson can learn huge from dawks and Bailey before they go. 1 Tommy harris or Darnell docket or somebody who can run block prefer over pass rush. Let’s just go out and buy two huge sumo wrestlers from japan and put em in. As long as they can stop the run and let Elvis dime and robert ayers pass rush. Just don’t use our first pick on defensive line.
true it takes the whole D to be great, not one player makes the defense…
Its hard guarantee the PP pick. But I hope Fox is as confindent with our current line as I am to take Peterson. Doom a shoe in at RDE, Ayers will get his chance and he might flourish in a 43. Doom can bring that pressure definitely. But some question his run stopping defense. Thats why you bring back Dj to the ROLB spot to alleviate that problem. Dj has good instincts against the run.
Ayers at LDE is already excellent against the run. He’ll keep the run to that side in check, Champ is also excellent in run support as he plays LCB. THomas VIckerson on the line is adequate, more moves could be made.
Haggan was good on outside. But could also play middle. Thats where drafting a MLB could be great help. A smart instinctive MLB.
I will agree that Peterson is the safest pick with the #2. But i wont be disheartened if we traded to get Dareus.
Thx C.R .. we saying the same thing. I dont mind a first round DT … just want Peterson more.
One thing we however cant afford to do is trade back into the first rounf. We dodnt have that luxury since McD squandered picks and left us with holes. No trading back in the first round in my opinion.
Mikey, you have a reason to be concerened, I also fear Paea may not be around. I have posted that alot of times. Especially since his stock seems to be on the rise, but there are others, but paea is my fave DT. And yes it feels like talking to a brick wall.
And finally I will pose this question again:
Back in 2007 Calvin Johnson was drafted as the second overall pick, how is this ok for a WR but Not a CB. They are on the field for the same amount of time most of the time and if you take a guy that high to score, why not take a guy that high to top the score? Just curious … thats why i dont pay attention to “number 2 is too high to take a CB” arguement…
My dream is still: CB Patrick Peterson, DT Stephen Paea, and ILB Gregg Jones with the first 3 picks. But that might just be a pipe dream lol
I like those picks too TRB, second one we’ll need luck..lol
i believe in Fox’s evaluation of players coming out of college. Just look at the players he drafted out of college while he was in Carolina. I think he did an EXCELLENT job of bringing in great quality players that loves football, has great work ethics to get better and produces at a high level all the time. Just to name a few… Steve Smith…D.Williams…..James Stweart in the same year. Julius Peppers and that’s just to name a few. Every one of the players are or were prp bowwl caliber players and still plays at high levels. I think he WILL make the right decision on most if not all of the playerss he drafts this year and aftefr next years draft… we Broncos fan will be talking abour play offs and SUPERBOWLS. It’s coming my BRONCOMANIACS and it is coming fasst so be prepared to cheer our Broncos to many Victories. We will first get our respect back in the A.F.C. west. Then the A.F.C. Then the N.F.L and last but not least… The Respect of the WORLD…….. GOOOOO BRONCOS………IWILLX2
Well, that “exemption” have lasted a few years already, just sayin’… I don’t thing is coincidence…
Think*
I just don’t think DT is far more important or make a better contribution to the defense as you stated! Not a valid argument the way this “brick wall” explained it before, with valid arguments!
Now if you have someting better than “DT are directly involve in every single down”, I think we have a discussion!
I’ll tell you this, I’d rather have a shutdown/elite corner with a decent tackle than a decent CB with a great tackle… That is my take!
Is it APRIL yet? LMBO!!!!!! best comment so far…man you all never cease to amaze me with the knowledge and the back and forth. WOW!!
Well have to say I haven’t been as active watching the CBA drama unfold but I get updated everytime I plug in and check out this blog. I’m going to start advertising this more and more on my website and my real estate blog that if anyone really wants the scoop…HERE IT IS!! right here.
Interesting how Peterson’s name keeps creaping in. I still say DT’s so get in the QB’s face…then we make the corners jobs easier.
Funny stuff but goooood.
OK. going to hop out of town for a few days..I emcee the Boomer Esiason Costa Rica Charity Classic. It’s a billfish tournament and you can see details at the website and on facebook. Should have mentioned this before so some of you could have joined us. I do it every year so if it looks interesting you’ll have to join us next year. Last year 11 sails, 1-250# Blue marlin 22 Dorado, 1 was 55#’s and 3 yellowfin (small ones) and that was in 6 hours by myself. And lost probably 6 more sails on the drop back.
I know….. tough duty…but someone has to do it. Be back Monday and will fill you in and share some pics.
Yak then.
Coopster
haha, you liked it Coop?
Have a good one in my country! I am going back to Costa Rica as well for a season in the beginning of April ! Where is this tournament being hold down there? I might go and cheer for you! LOL
Talking about my comment, I just believe every guys is responsible for the team success, despite his position and you need everybody else’s hard work to be successful!
Are you intrigued by Peterson? What would be your move i this years draft Coopster!?
And to make the corners job easier we have Doom coming back and Ayers back in his DE role, I believe he is going to be GOOD! And also, Ayers have a smell for the running plays, hope he keeps it up!
If we get a couple of decent DT we should be alright, as I mentioned, we could find our guy next year if necessary!
That was a good decision in releasing those guy. We gotta go younger with the defense line to add to the guys already there. If they go Fairly with the 2nd pick and get more defensive linemen in the 2nd round we will be ok. Then go after Nnamdi Asomugha in free agency to accompany Champ and Dawkins in the secondary. That would be amazing! GO BRONCOS!!!
been out of the country will post some charity shots in the next few days….nothings been happening on the NFL front to speak of with hoops going on right now…..GOOD GAMES by the way.
