Going with ole “Gray Beard”

January 11th, 2010 - 8:26pm by mark_cooper

Yea, yea, you already knew I was headed down that path and it’s not even an AFC team. I’m allowed, I played three years for the NFC’s Bucs … just don’t tell anyone :o )

Yep, I’m pulling for the “ole man” — even though I think New Orleans can win when they don’t play well and that’s the sign of a really good team.

Brett Favre has done that too, but just not to the extent New Orleans has. But I’m still pulling for the ole’ timer.

Cowboys are back in form and it’s killing me listening to the neighbor all dressed up like Cowgirl “Bill” the cheerleader in his blue and white matching garb and that grin on his face, after we spanked them but good here earlier in the season.

The AFC and NFC Championships game may be the best games we watch all year. But I’m excited for Sanchez and the Jets to get a playoff win under their belts…better watch that crowd, they may have come in the side door but they just might surprise some folks with that ‘D’ they have.

So who are your picks this weekend? Let’s see who’s got it.

Saints Cardinals is a toss up. I hope the ravens beat the Colts and the Jets beat the Chargers. I also like Bret Favre so I want him to win.

  2. TheRoyalBeast says:

Colts and ARI in the superbowl in my book…..maybe Minesotta…..

  3. maraxus1199 says:

    Colts over Ravens
    Saints over Cards
    Cowboys over Vikes
As sad as it is…. Chargers over Jets :(

  4. chaoticblaze27 says:

i personally say jets and cowboys got the upper hand in there divisions

  5. baylinorcrush says:

When it comes to the rest of the NFL outside of the Broncos, it just comes down to the teams I dislike the least, with what’s left, in the AFC it would be the Ravens and in the NFC the Saints but unfortunately I don’t see either making it all the way. For the sake of alliance, I have to go AFC in the SB no matter who is in it.

So with that in mind here is how I think it will go:

    Divisional playoffs this week end:
    Ravens beat Colts
    SD beats Jets
    Dallas beats Minnesota
    Arizona beats N-O

    Conference Championships next week:

    SD beats Ravens
    Dallas beats Arizona

    SB:

    SD beats Dallas.

But let’s be clear, once the Broncos are out, I could truly care less what happens, every game I watch I find myself rooting for a good game while I don’t really care who wins, it makes for a very enjoyable experience, but not at all exciting.

  6. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

I want the Vikings to win for two reasons. Brett Favre may FINALLY retire and Brad Childress should have never been in the hot seat.

  7. nw3030 says:

if i had to choose it would have to be cards vs chargers. chargers winning it all. i always said i would hate to see our divison rivals in the super bowl but its bound to happen. and since i could really give a crap about the playoffs this year than have at it chargers and than maybe their fans will finally shut up! lol wow sorry about the rant guys

  8. brian_schneider says:

    Colts 34 Ravens 21
    Chargers 31 Jets 17
    Cowboys 21 Vikings 17
    Saints 38 Arizona 31

I’m probably going to be way off but I’m just trying to have fun watching not the Broncos. Man football is so much better and more fun to watch when you can root for your own team.

    I hate the Chargers!!!

  9. nw3030 says:

im with you brian! i cant stand them

  10. Orange_Crusher says:

Rooting for San Diego is COMPLETE BRONCO BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!

    Bite your tongues, sinners!

    Go Vikings!!!

  11. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

    Colts over Ravens
Chargers over Jets (as much as it kills me to say that) definitely rooting for the Jets though!
Cardinals over Saints (even though I grew up in Louisiana and the Saints used to be the Aints and were always horrible they are still my NFC team)
    Vikings over Cowboys

I would love to see the old timers Brett and Kurt battle it out!

  12. Jde_07 says:

I hope the Colts take Arizona in the superbowl and the Jets show up and shut down San Diego, and as much as I hate pulling for the Vikings, I like Farve and I cant stand Dallas Fans, “yeah congrats on your team winning one playoff game in the last 13 years now go out and beat a team that you havent owned all season long”

  13. nw3030 says:

nobody is rooting for them we are just saying who we think are going to win

  14. baylinorcrush says:

nw3030, don’t worry about OC, he likes it hot under the collar, that’s how he rolls, you’ll get used to it, he is a lot of fun, even so I disagree with him quite often he most always makes me laugh. Your point is well taken we are just saying SD is the better team, and OC knows that’s all we are saying, but he just has to try to ruffle our feathers throwing the indignate Bronco fan card at us. I think it’s funny. Way to Bronc on, OC brethren! LOL.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

By the way the Vikings AND Favre are sooooooo overrated, the Cowboys are going to make mince meat out of them norvegian transplants. LOL.

  16. wpgbronco-13 says:

this weekends games are ganna kill me especially the jets-chargers game…my gf is a huge chargers fan which is brutal…and i dont like the jets but im rooting for them anyways even if it gets me in the doghouse again! however i still gotta be smart with my picks.

    Chargers 28 Jets 17
Ravens 31 Colts 28 (OT) ahh yeah i see ot alright
    Cards 42 Saints 38
    Cowboys 21 Vikings 17

Superbowl picks i got Ravens and Cardinals

  17. sincethe60s says:

New Orleans vs Colts in the Super bowl

Floyd Little in the HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. stevecan2 says:

    Chargers lose to the Jets
    Ravens lose to the Colts
    Cardinals lose to the Saints
    Cowboys lose to the Vikings

    Jets lose to the Colts
    Vikings lose to the Saints

    Saints lose to the Colts

Manning will earn his second ring. However what would be the best to see is Saints v Chargers. Sorry Baylin I am a die hard AFC fan in the Superbowl normally also but i do have a couple of exceptions, When Tampa beat the Raiders and if the Chargers make it. Unless he wears a Broncos jersey I want River’s career to end in never winning the big game, hell better quarterbacks have went threw it. And what better way then to have Drew Brees take em down for yet another almost made it season.

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

Good God Man,don’t pick the damn Chargers to win the superbowl. That’s my worst nightmare come true.By the way i’m hoping it’s the Colts and Saints in the superbowl, and Peyton and the Colts winning it all.

  20. Broncfalls says:

Firs of all, if my wife rooted for anyone other than the Broncos, I would ask for a divorce!

If my 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter pulled the same little stunt, I would put them both up on Ebay!

    Funny story about how girls can be the evil sent to destroy anything normal;

My son Jadyn was busy coloring at the brilliant age of 6. Now Jadyn is as die hard as a 6 year old boy can be! His sister who is 3 years old and full of “I want to annoy you” juice was sitting across the table simply starring at her brother.

Arms crossed she silently said “bears”

Jadyn’s head raised up and said “What did you just say?”

    Olivia replied “bearrrs”

Jadyn yelled across the table “OLIVIA! you know you’re not supposed to say that word in this house!”

    Olivia’s response “Chicago Bears”

Jadyn; “Daddd! Olivia said Chicago Bears…”

Now the funny thing is after explaining to Olivia how this family rolls, I was telling this story to other family members. One of my sister in laws walked up to Olivia and said:

    “Hey Olivia, go Bears….”

    Olivia responded, “No! Broncos!”

Now tell me that crap with her brother was nothing more than girls messing with boys! little heathen! LOL!

What makes this story even funnier, is that we live in Illinois just outside of Chicago. So the family is rittled with Bears fans….poor soles!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

p.s. I don’t care what the hell happens in the playoffs AS LONG AS SAN DIEGO LOSE!!!! I DON’T EVER WANT A SUPER BOWL RING TO GOTO OUR DIVISION UNLESS IT’S US! PERIOD!

  21. brian_schneider says:

That’s funny stuff right there Broncfalls.
    Reminds me of a story:

I was more nervous asking my girlfriend (now wife) what football team she liked than when I asked here to marry me. I was more afraid of her saying the Chiefs, Chargers or Raiders, than saying no. LOL!!!

Oh she’s a Broncos fan otherwise I’d still be a single man. LOL!!!!

  22. tjnartw says:

Yeh, I’ll root for the Cowboys before I’ll root for the Chargers.
I’m hoping for a Ravens victory over the Colts but won’t put anything on it, and I’m hoping for a Jets victory but still won’t put anything on it. I think that Farve is going to eat the Cowboys alive but, well you know I won’t put anything on it. and I’d like to see New Orleans win just because.
Then again that is why I have a daytime job and not a sports commentator.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  23. baylinorcrush says:

tjnartw, sports commentators don’t know anymore than you do, don’t belittle yourself, if they did they wouldn’t have a day job commenting, they would be in Vegas putting it all on the line. No one knows who will win the games, that’s why you play the game, every man who is a betting man ends up a loser eventually. It’s just like the stock market, if everyone knew what stock would make money, why would all the Wall Street traders trade to make a living instead of buying winning stocks. It’s like the lottery, man, no one knows, the ones who say they do are full of it, we are all guessing. Just my opinion.

Regarding the SD will beat Dallas in the SB thing I posted up above is, I see, causing a stir, and rightly so. Stevecan2 made an excellent point about the Tampa-Raiders SB, even so he roots for the AFC in SB’s, he couldn’t do it for that game and neither could I. I remember going to a sports bar in Pensacola Florida for that SB and I wore all my Bronco gear and sided with Tampa fans rooting for their team AGAINST the Raiders, and I almost got into a fight with a Raider fan there for rubbing it in a bit. Stevecan2 being correct, I retract my earlier statement that I always pick the AFC in a SB, and add to it, unless it has a West Division foe in it. That been said my analytical brain still sees a SD wins it all scenario to my ultimate displeasure. Hope I’m totally off and that the Ravens beat the Saints in the SB, the pick from my heart. Peace you all, LOL.

  24. RioAbajo Bronco says:

    Vikings over Cowboys-Graybeard comes alive
Colts over ravens- Manning is to much!!
Cardinals over Saints-Kurt wants to go out a winner
Jets over Chargers- Please GOD Please!!

  25. Cali_BroncosFan says:

I CANT BELIEVE WHAT IM READING!!!!!! Dolts over Jets???? Come on people!!!

Jets gots the No.1 “D”!!!! Chragers cant run the ball!!! So that leaves them in obvious passing situations. The Jets got Rohdes and Revis oh and they also got Lito Shepard. Those guys can hold their own againts Gates and Jackson. They also got Bart Scott and David Harris and both can drop into coverage.

On offense their No.1 in running the ball while the Dolts stink at stoping the run. The Jets also blitz all kinds and Rivers aint good againts the blitz and we all saw that in week 6.

Come on you guys/girls the dolts got notin againts the Jets!!!!

    FOREVER A BRONCO FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. since77 says:

After laying down in week’s 16 & 17 the colts should have their hands full. History shows that it’s good to keep an edge.
I never did under stand why Warner lost his job as a ram. I think he will make the journey one more time. Cards 27 Saints 14.
Vikings over the Cowboys. I like Wade Pillips but I like Shanahan and McDaniels more.
And I really want to say “jets beat the bolts” but I really don’t think so.

  27. Some_Anchovies says:

    Broncfalls

I too live in Illinois. Bears fan’s all around. But What I hear isn’t Beaarrrs. It’s Brooncoos. =)

My family is all Cowboys fans, and I’ve got a 4 year old half brother who has joined the Cowboys fan club.

And I’m the one lone Broncos fan. I have fun saying Broncooos to everyone haha.

Can’t right now though. Cowboys are still in the playoffs. But when they were 6-0 =) said that to both the bears and cowboys fans. =D

  28. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I hate Favre, but don’t mind the Vikings, so I hope Minnesota wins (I guess). I really like the Colts and the Ravens and the Cardinals and the Saints so whoever wins those games, I’ll be happy with. Go Jets, that’s the easiest game for me to determine the team I want.

  29. Broncfalls says:

    Some_Anchovies,

I feel you! My step father and brother are both Cowboy fans. My younder brother is attending ISU and we went down there to watch the game! Needless to say it was a GREAT TRIP!

What part of Illinois areyou in? I live in Rock Falls. It’s right on I-88 about 1 hour straight west of DeKalb.

Anyways, I’m sure you’re like me and get your fill of the Score 670! It was priceless listening to them every Monday after their games. All the callers calling up wanting the trade back LOL!

….oh…and I heard a rumor via internet (and yes it’s just a rumor) that Cleveland is interested in sending J. Cribbs to Denver for Brandon Marshall and draft picks! (interesting)

DO IT! let Cribbs be a returner and take Eddie off the special teams. Let him be a receiver. PERIOD! Use all these picks to fix the D-Line and with Cribbs returning punts/kicks and some gadget plays…we’re in business!

    GO BRONCOS!

  30. brian_schneider says:

You know, you put Cribbs and Moreno in the wildhorse formation and have Royal as a possible reverse man, we may have something there. I’m not saying we run it as much as Miami, but we may get some big plays from something like that.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I’m all for Cribbs, the man is an opposition destroyer, he can turn a game around all by himself, and he played as hard as anyone for just about minimum pay all year without ever complaining, I like everything about him, the guy is nothing but a winner, what a boost he would be, hyper high octane super booster, nothing like anything we have now. It would be like having a Dawkins on ST and O. I would almost do the trade with Marshall straight up, that guy has the potential to help your team in many more ways than Marshall can. Him and a second or even a third for Marshall, count me in.

  32. Broncfalls says:

    Bay!,

I totally agree. I’m past the point of trying to figure this Marshall thing out, too much drama for me! I don’t care who said, what said…blah blah blah. All I know is that when Champ, DJ, Dawk and Kyle tell JMac to take care of business, enough said!

Now, Cribbs…as some may know, I live in Illinois and watched too much of Hester! Until that God awful organization ruined him by trying to make him a receiver, HE CHANGED GAMES!

As you said Bay!, field position is HUGE!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  33. baylinorcrush says:

In 2009, Cribbs accomplished the following:

Kick Returns: 56 for 1,542 yards, a 27.5 yard average!!!

Punt Returns: 38 for 452 yards, a 11.9 yard average.

Rushing: 55 carries for 381 yds.

Receiving: 20 catches for 135 yards.

He therefore accounted for 2,510 yards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW!!!!

  34. brian_schneider says:

So say we do send Marshall to the Browns for Cribbs and possibly some picks. Does Anderson and/or Quinn make Marshall look bad or does Marshall make Anderson and/or Quinn look good?

  35. baylinorcrush says:

    Marshall stats for 2009:

1,120 yards receiving and 39 yards rushing for a total of 1,159 yards.

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Marshall will make any QB look good because he is a big target, IMO. He would probably get his thousand yards again.

  37. brian_schneider says:

Good point. The only wrinkle I see in our awesome plan is that if the Browns don’t want to give Cribbs the money he wants would they trade to get Marshall who wants to get paid also?

I mean they would be getting way more production on the offense but losing so much in their ST. Do the Browns not see the value in Cribbs?

  38. baylinorcrush says:

The thing that has changed with the Browns is Holmgreen is at the helm now and he always believed in a heavy pass O oriented team, that could be a help, of course all this talk is pure conjoncture right now, but it’s still exciting to think about the possibilities.

  39. brian_schneider says:

Yeah, I know. If we were all GMs Marshall would be heading to the Browns and Cribss and some picks would be heading our way.

“We’ll Pat, you see you’re going to be getting so much more for your money. In today’s economy you gotta strecth your buck, and this kid is how to do it.” LOL!!!

  40. 4broncosjeff says:

Shanny is in Washington, think he will want him? Im sure they have someone we could use. Anything to get rid of the drama.

    Go Broncos

  41. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Coop,

Here’s my picks for the upcoming weekend and SB.

    Cardinals 45 Saints 44
    Cowboys 31 Vikings 17
    Chargers 24 Jets 14
    Colts 21 Ravens 17

Cardinals had a shootout with Packers and Warner is on fire. Like his chances to keep it going. Saints secondary somewhat suspect… we’ll see.
Cowboys playing their best football, so it could come down to Romo being able to execute in the dome, and containing Viking D. Cowboy D making things happen. As much as I hate the Bolts, they’re a strong contender. If Manning has time, he’ll pick the Ravens secondary apart.

Upset I would love to see this weekend – Jets over Chargers!

Super Bowl – Dallas Cowboys vs. Indianapolis Colts

    Winner – Indianapolis Colts

  42. raidrhadr says:

Anyone else care to weigh in on the departure of Mike Nolan, Bobby Turner and Rick Dennison…..this is a sad day in Broncos history…..Hopefully Dumervil doesn’t want to follow Nolan to Miami. Thank you Bobby Turner for producing a long, long list of very good running backs including Terrel Davis…you will be missed. Good luck to Coach Dennison in Houston. Alex Gibbs taught you well.

  43. mark_cooper says:

Tally’s in, see how you did. hmmmmm? Good thing we’re now professional gamblers, except for a couple or we’d all be in the food line. Move on over to the next Post and see how this week goes. I say Colts and Vikings (Ole man). Love the Jets win!!!

P.S. Some might have to take the feathers out of their mouths (eating crow) for this weeks pick…..I won’t call anyone out. :o )

    cgyj..you and me on Farve
    maraxus1199…2-2

    codybleedsorangeandblue…2-2

    RioAbajo Bronco 3-4 nice!!
    since77…2-2
