Elway Era!!

January 5th, 2011 - 2:23pm by mark_cooper

Great interview today. Waited to post until I heard the interview. If you didn’t, find it on KOA or other sites and see what you think. (DenverBroncos.com will have the video and audio of the press conference on the site shortly.)

Sixteen years in the league and some tough years are “experiences” you can’t read about and/or understand if you haven’t lived it. I was there for four of John and had another three of my own in Tampa with losing seasons, but 16 years and all he accomplished speaks for itself, so I’m excited for the organization, Mr. Bowlen and the fans.

John’s a winner, a leader, a smart guy, and like I mentioned before the MOST fierce competitor I ever played with in my “ENTIRE” sports career and I played with Kelly, Testaverde, Joe Ferguson, Steve Deberg and Bernie Kosar was a redshirt at Miami when I as a senior. You know it when you see it and you know by what a guy does on and off the field. Leadership and respect are earned, not a given.

By the way great posts all week on potental draft picks and links to video on them. You guys/gals keep it rolling. Like I mentioned late in the week if you were reading (Bay) and I discussed John as a team player not a guy you work for BUT “with” and I think the interview today solidified that comment. When he walks into a huddle, “we’re all in this together attitude” will be much the same as an Executive VP. That’s teamwork at the highest level and that creates “lapdog loyalty” in an organization and a feeling of being a part of something much bigger.

I know you all get tired of my PATIENCE comment but we’ll need some because it will be tough to turn this around quickly. Big ships take time, but I have a lot more faith with John involved and so will many of you if you listened to the no nonsense interview and I appreciate how candidly he spoke about the team, organization, Tebow and Champ.

Fresh start today, so stay tuned.

GO BRONCOS!!!

Yeah like a kid in a candy store, don’t know what to buy,LOL.

  2. BeastFromEast92 says:

I know we won’t draft all the players everybody wants, but if we can sure up our Defense, and get a good pass catching TE,I will be happy!

  3. strandoftds says:

Well Fairley can play both DT and DE.

  4. BeastFromEast92 says:

I don’t know if Jones and Rudolph will both be gone in the 1st or not, there are a LOT of DLs and OLBs going in the 1st round.

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah Fairley can stuff the run and sack the QB.
But Bowers is fast coming off the edge.

Take your pick,I don’t think we could lose with either one!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

Fairley has a nasty temperment, that’s why I like him,we need that!

  7. rayjr26 says:

fairley is my pick…. we need to learn to stop the run!!!!

  8. BeastFromEast92 says:

    AMEN BROTHER!

  9. strandoftds says:

My doorbell just rang. and low and behold. It`s my DVD`s I ordered. Three DVD set. SuprBowl`s 97 and 98. And last but not least, the 1977 AFC Championship Game against the hated raiders. YAAA!!!!!!!!!!

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Congrats strand,enjoy them bro!

  11. strandoftds says:

Ya, we need that nasty play by the DT. He`d be perfect. Fairley is a Brutal DT.

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

Well guys nice talkin to ya,but gotta do some stuff,be back on later.Bronc on my Bros!

  13. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Seems like im the only one on Bowers Island. Pssh, fairley got a nasty temperment, good when controlled, nice intensity, when not controlled, u get a guy like cortland finnigan…which we all dont want lol. But Fairley of Bowers, cant lose. Man, long way to draft…cant keep talking about this stuff lol. All I hope is that we get wat we want. Also theres a RB called Roy Halu…I like him. moves like a speedster but is well built at 6ft 220 and projected 4th/5th…

  14. footballMANIAC says:

Reposting what I said on the old blog before seeing the new one:

I agree with trading Orton. A 2nd rounder would be great value for him, not to mention a boon for a flagging roster. He was not a franchise quarterback. Franchise quarterbacks don’t cough up the ball repeatedly when the game is on the line. Stats mean nothing other than you want him in fantasy football.

  15. strandoftds says:

What school did Halu go to?

  16. footballMANIAC says:

Haha when I first saw your post, TRB, I thought you meant you liked the RB for the first round and I was going “Not another one!”

  17. MANDIEGO says:

Remember that we still had Lendale White. When healthy I think he will be a great power back.

  18. strandoftds says:

I mentioned this yesterday. If we trade Orton to the Vikes for there 2nd round pick, they are at pick #45.

  19. 1nOnlyTRB says:

strand, sorry i spelt his name wrong…roy helu (e not a) and he plays for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

And footballManiac, no way…I am dedicated to Defense once again this year lol. he is a 4th/5th round prospect…currently, from what i hear

  20. Bones1965 says:

Would any of you great fans give away a 2nd round pick for Kyle Orton?

Maybe a 3rd but I will take it.

    I would draft Fairley

Get Woodly LB Pittsburgh Steelers Free Agent 9 sacks

    and Sign Champ

  21. footballMANIAC says:

Buffalo, Arizona, and Tennessee are other teams I could see being interested in Orton, and they all have higher picks than Minnesota. By the way, where can I find a draft order listing?

  22. strandoftds says:

    Just type in (nfl2011mock draft).

  23. strandoftds says:

Or just 2011 nfl draft position is better.

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I truely believe Orton is worth a second. He is pretty solid…he just doesnt have the IT factor that would make him great, ergo, he is just good. And on a team that is already competitive but lacking in QB and doesnt have a first round pick to spare on a QB or isnt high enough to get a good one…I would trade for orton. He just needs a good team with a good defense and a good run game…and he will “manage” the rest of the game. He just wont lead any comebacks because he crumbles under pressure.

But thats how bargaining works…You go high, they go lower and u meet somewhere in the middle. For example we can end up with a 3rd and player. or a 3rd and a 5th or something like that. Theres no way orton stays on this team with that 9 mil contract coming up so we will definitely drop him. We just cant look to eager to drop him or his stock goes down….Here are a few teams that come to mind, Vikings, Cardinals, 49ers, Dolphins, Titans, Jaguars, seahawks, and probably a few others I cant think of. Plus orton is only like 28.

  25. danso says:

I hear some people say they are worried about not keeping Tebow or not using him or somehow trading and drafting Luck. It will never happen! The coach who is hired will absolutely play Tebow. There would be a fan revolt now if it was done any other way. The only way Tebow won’t be the starting quarterback henceforth is if after a year or two he turns out to be a miserable failure and the fans agree he is not the right one. Tebow will be given every chance in the world to be successful, which I believe he will be, by the way. Just saying, not to worry. I think there are enough teams needing a ready to go quarterback like Orton that someone will part with a #2 for him. I believe we will get it. I think we will keep Quinn around as back up, he is inexpensive. Exciting times in Bronco land.

  26. strandoftds says:

Is Quinn still under contact with us?

  27. danso says:

I thought Quinn had at least 3 years and pay was based on how much he played I think.

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Strandoft

since u asked about helu…heres a vid from one of his games. Nothing really flashy but he shows great speed for a guy 6ft 220. His other highlight vids were hard to see which is why i posted this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV916aEZAPI

At 4th/5th round I wouldnt be opposed but then again people might want a bigger back…but we do have lendale white waiting in the wings…once again…all about who the next coach is, who he likes and how he plans to use people.

  29. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea Quinn is under contract with us…and his pay is based on snaps…which he isnt really getting…so even tho he was a first rounder…we arent paying that much.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Quinn is in the final year of his contract and will earn $700,000.

  31. royalbroncofan1 says:

Breaking news over at nfl.com….. Vince Young to be traded or released.

  32. Crazyhorserider says:

Well now we have John in the saddle we will need to be 100% behind him through hell and high water.

As Coop says patience is the key but at least now we can all feel good about the management of the Broncos organisation which is designed to succeed.

Good Luck to one and all as we start the Elway years.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

That means Fisher will remain HC of the Titans.

  34. caramelloo says:

MANDIEGO you remember those Aints days as well huh. I do feel good that I watched the Saints go from nothing to something first hand. Now I have to wait for and watch for our Broncos to rise from the ashes!

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Quick question just to switch things up a bit…

If you could have one HC…out of all the ones in the league…HCs included…If it didnt matter that they were already on a team and employed who would you choose? Personally, I would choose Mike Tomlin.

  36. caramelloo says:

1nOnlyTRB you and I both love us some Tomlin!! He is the man and I would put on the pads for him.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

“The San Francisco 49ers are expected to meet Wednesday with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh at an undisclosed location away from the team’s training facility, league sources told ESPN NFL Insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter.”

  38. caramelloo says:

Good let him go to one of the Cali teams. I don’t want him or the idea that he might draft Luck, Lock, hickory dickory dock, or whoever.

  39. caramelloo says:

Man Clay Mathews is a BEAST!! Why did we pass on him??

  40. baylinorcrush says:

Filed to ESPN: Dolphins owner Steve Ross has traveled west to make an urgent pitch to Jim Harbaugh to become their next HC.

Looks like we might be a little too late for a pitch if Harbaugh is really what Elway wants. So probably not.

  41. caramelloo says:

I say we get Kevin Greene to coach our LB’s. Greg Williams with Kevin Green under him would make a tenacious D!

  42. sndvl says:

Two years ago a new sherriff arrived in our dusty, rugged outpost from back East. Young and brash he was, charming to boot. INNOVATER, they all yelled. Bestowed with the power to prove his idealistic ways were ahead of the curve. He would restore the proud image of our clan, with his vision as the guide. With sound and fury and chaos, he ruled supreme. His tactics, unseen and unheard of. Banishing the gunslinger, declaring Marshall law, dismantling the posse. Imposing his will. Nothing could prepare us for what ensued. WRATH….

Now that the smoke and dust have settled and the Blue & Orange horizon is once again visible. The Duke taking his rightful place. Restoring order. Reestablishing honor. Rebuilding tradition. Good things are ahead! I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCOS and JOHN ELWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

    DEFENSE in 2011

  43. caramelloo says:

Bay we can’t have that!! I plan on passing by the Saints practice facility and dropping some hints to Greg Williams.

  44. sndvl says:

    I’d take Sean Payton (sp?).
So BFE, who ya got on your mock board?! Lol j/k

  45. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Man sndvl…that sounded like an interesting story…sadly since we lived it we know it was horrifying…but nice naration lol

  46. 1nOnlyTRB says:

sean payton is a good one. and yea caramelloo Tomlin is the sh*t…like u, id play for him lol

  47. baylinorcrush says:

You guys remember when Bailey was willing to take a pay cut to work out a deal with us and the top brass pulled out of the negociations? Well, apparently this ship has sailed:

Bailey said on Monday that he would like to stay in Denver, but that he wouldn’t take a pay cut to do so.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

    LMAO@sndvl and the mock draft…

  49. 1nOnlyTRB says:

He did say that…but at the same time right after he said that bay…he said its all about if he believes he can win with us and that money is not the selling point….So I dont think much has changed…but we defintiely shoulda locked him up when we could…but like I always said, if he decides to move on…i aint mad at him…got love for him…class act…great guy…and wish him the best of luck…hopefully he returns to retire a bronco.

  50. camharland says:

Consensus? I think he really means that! LOL! Just kidding! He did pretty good in his one hour press conferance. Didn’t need a teleprompter (Sorry Obama).
    Go Elway!
    Go Tebow!
    Go Broncos!
