Dr. Jekyl or Mr. Hyde?

November 16th, 2010 - 5:02pm by mark_cooper

Yep, slow to post but the thought still lingers. Who is this team? I had to attend a Previews Luxury Home conference up in the mountains with limited access to services and didn’t get a chance to post. I thought my buddy was bringing his laptop and he thought I was bringing mine. DUH??

Sunday I only got to see the second half of the game as our little AYL team Creek Royal team went undefeated and won the Superbowl on the Regis High School field. Great kids (11 year olds) and you should have seen their faces and reactions after the 26-7 win. It was all about them. I’ve been having a blast coaching the O & D lines and Bart Gripenstraw has been the head coach and has done a great job along with Kurt Colehower who played at Stanford coaching the defense and Double D helping us (all) along the way.

So who are the Broncos? What is their identity. Like I’ve said we will win a few awe shouldn’t and (not win a few we should) until we find our identity and play together as a team more and grow as a team more.

Hopefully the rivalry gets cranked up with KC with what was not a RUN-UP in score by the way. I’d have done the same thing as dangerous as the Chiefs can be. They could/can/have been able to score on most all season. This IS the NFL, give me a break as lethal as they and most teams can be with a turnover or marching down the field with their weapons.

Loved seeing more faces get into the action and a great game after most wanted to run everyone out of town after the Raider game. Even most of the sports writers picked Denver this weeke which surpirsed me the way they’ve been railing on the team and anyone associated…AND are you all happy for Tebow’s run and pass??

Have to ask?? Bring it.

Coop

Late to the party but better late than never Coopster! lol As frustrating as it is to see this team lose and not play well, I love the unpredictable nature of this team. It serves them well (most of the time). It makes it hard for other teams to prepare for us. KC is at the top of our division and no one thought they’d play as bad as they did or that we would’ve played as great as we did given how both teams have played in recent weeks. But we manhandled KC and it was AWESOME!! This team does need to get a consistent pace (in wins) going & with that they could still be unpredictable. I think they found something that works for them with the Oline situation. They clearly made changes that worked on the field.

Most important, like I have always said, they’ve needed to play like a TEAM and they did. Sunday’s game was 100% a TEAM win. They came out fighting especially in the 1st qtr and from there it was all Denver. With the way things went down against KC, I would most definitely say the rivalry between these 2 teams has only gotten more heated. The way it should be. We need to keep up the momentum on Monday night and do the same to SD. I would love nothing more than to see Rivers have a VERY bad Monday night. Our D put pressure on Cassel and it served them well… do the same to Rivers and we’ll have another great game.

Oh and of course, I’m very happy for Tebow. I know you all are probably sick of seeing this but I want to make sure Bronco Country gets on board with bringing back the infamous Orange jerseys.

Coopster…I agree 100% on us NOT running up the score, like you said, this is the NFL.I’m stoked about Tebow getting his first pass, and a TD to boot, hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see Larsen playing,I knew we needed a good Fullback!
We have to keep it going tho,or it don’t mean squat!

  3. baylinorcrush says:

The scary part is I’m afraid you may be right Coop, with a team like ours we are bound to win some we shouldn’t but lose some we should win. The sign of a good team is to win the games you should and we have a long ways to get there. But at least that game was the best step forward ever taken under McD’s regime, it was a way more complete win than any of our previous wins under McD, this year or last. Since in so many games we seemed to take steps backwards, this was a liberating type of win and I’ll take it and enjoy for all it’s worth. But I will remain guardedly optimistic for the rest of the season as Mr. Hyde will probably show his face in the rest of the season and make us miss on a couple of games we should of had to dash our division title and playoff hopes. However I’m still hanging in there with the team, not by much, like the team, but hanging in there nonetheless. I’m not going to say much about the game at this point as you are indeed late to the party, many blogs have passed and I voiced my pleasure with our team this week in every one of them. Great game! GO BRONCOS!!!

  4. strandoftds says:

The Bronco`s seem to play at the level of the opponent. Thats playing dangerous ball in my book. The teams that play poorly the Bronco`s have trouble with and the teams who are strong they play up to that teams strengths. Rather wierd.

  5. RSH says:

    BeastFromEast92,

Please don’t tell me that you still think that when the Broncos are at full strength, they should play in the 4-3. The Broncos are built for the 3-4, and when healthy, it works. Look how much pressure and run containment off the edges the Broncos were able to create, because the Broncos had a healthy Kevin Vickerson paired with Justin Bannan and Jamal Williams.

  6. Carsonic says:

I feel the same way as you, strandoftds. The offense has got to start strong, come out fired up and ready to execute *every*single*game*. And teams with poor records seem to take the air out of the Broncos, for some reason.

I just have to say, I think one of my favorite moments of the game that didn’t get a lot of mention was, on Tebow’s first TD, Spencer Larsen just blew the guy he was blocking about 5 yards into the end zone, giving Tebow his cakewalk into the endzone. And I believe that helped set up the passing TD he caught the next time. A talented, multi-faceted fullback like that can sure help a offense in a lot of ways

One last thing. The way Joe Mays was smacking receivers on the short routes, did he remind anyone else of a certain linebacker of yore with the initials A. W.?

  7. strandoftds says:

Ya Carsonic, it was even that way back in Elways era.

  8. Orange_Crusher says:

I have no idea where Josh came up with that fantastic change-em-up game plan but I sure hope he keeps up the creative playcalling… Not to overlook the flawless execution of said such gamplan by an Awesomely Inspired Team! WOW??? Where did that come from???

I sure hope we can do it again because I’m on Cloud #7 this week!!!!

KEEP THIS DRIVE ALIVE BRONCOS!!!! ENCORE! ENCORE!!!!!!

    ILMSDB!

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

RSH…..it’s only one game, and our D did give up 469 passing yards, but I’ll take it.I don’t really care which scheme we run bro, just as long as it works and we win, thats all I care about.
When a LB lines up on the line of scrimmage,it’s pretty much the same as a 4-3 anyway,a lot of teams change up schemes during a game.
But you have to admit that is the best our Defense has looked in a 34 shceme,if they can keep it up and get better,I’ll be content bro!

    BFE

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

Carsonic…..I been saying we need more FB play,McD utilizes the so called “hybrid TE” blocking instead of a Fullback in the past, hope he sticks with Larsen at FB,and uses him often.
And yeah we need some smashmouth play outta our LBs,Mays looked good.

  11. Miles H.I.G.H. says:

How cool would it be to see the Old School Denver D helmet with the Orange uniforms next year!

  12. footballMANIAC says:

I hope the momentum carries over

  13. strandoftds says:

Man, we need to keep the ball on offense. Three and outs for S.D. will do just fine. How about 21 more points in the first quarter again and a shutout by halftime.

  14. broncosfreak30 says:

The one and most single thing that I am hoping more than anything for this coming Monday night football game is if Goody is going to be out there! Don’t get me wrong, I love Cox and am liking that he is getting the ability to play, but Rivers has a great arm and we need our best corners in the game!!

On another note, Matthews and Gates might not be playing this coming week!!! If that is the case, that will be huge for us regarding how big Gates is on the chargers offense!

I am sooooo ready for Monday and even more ready for Friday when I take my first trip to Denver for my first home game against the Rams!!!

I LOVE ME SOME BRONCOS COUNTRY!!

  15. camharland says:

A shutout at the half sounds good to me! If we can keep pressure of Kyle I think we found our nitch on offence. I just need to see the same performance as last Sunday to make me pinch myself to see if this is real. 31-24 Broncos on MNF!

  16. camharland says:

Dangit, I did it again! Keep the pressure ‘OFF’ Kyle. Maybe SD will see the pressure ‘OF’ Kyle! LOL!
Go Tebow! (Just had to throw that in)
    Broncos win 31-24

  17. broncosfreak30 says:

    BTW…

I was wondering if anyone had the phone number to the official team store in invesco field at mile high? I am going to the rams at broncos game and it is my first home game and first time in Denver and I am really wanting to get a authentic orange Thomas jersey! I am wanting to call them and see if they have the jersey and if not see if they can get it for me before I get there! I have looked online but cannot find the number!

Any help would be much appreciated!!

I LOVE ME SOME BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!

  18. broncosfreak30 says:

    Nevermind…

I think I found the number!

  19. broncosfreak30 says:

    Camharland…

Haha, no I am going to get a Thomas jersey orange authentic not a Tebow. I already have a sewn Tebow jersey! Thanks for the help anyway! I appreciate it for you taking your time to help me!!!!

G’Day!!! First time blogger here… Needless to say complimentary football was the standard of the day against the Chiefs. We’ve shown what we can do when our backs are against the wall and whether we like it or not we’re not out of woods yet. Yeah sure, Chargers are going to be tough but this half of the season is when we get the opportunity to carve an identity out for ourselves like Cooper said.

“GO THE MIGHTY BRONCOS”!!! You owe it to yourselves to stay hungry and play as a TEAM!!! It’s not like we haven’t won six in a row before…and there’s no reason why outside of beating ourselves, we can’t better that!!!

  21. broncosfreak30 says:

    Welcome PNG…

Always glad to see more bronco fans coming on the blogs to talk and share their thoughts on our most loved Broncos!!!

    COOP!

First things first Great job with the kids! Congratulations!

Who are The Broncos? I don’t know if anyone can see who they are just yet, one thing I do know is that OLine was moving together for a change and the guards were getting to the linebackers and pushing them around. I don’t know what Mike McCoy and Clancy Barone did over the bye week but it’s working. Keep it up!

I’m also right with ya 07elway, Bring back the Orange! A uniform change could bring out some character and bring everybody who wants to be on this TEAM together. Nothing like new uniforms to help creativity flow. Bring Back The Orange ! ! !

    COOP!
I didn’t see a run-up either. The Broncos were embarrassed before the bye and Can anyone in Broncos Country say that they were comfortable with a 35-0 score? I wasn’t, in fact I wasn’t comfortable till the 2:00 warning. No score run up, but The Broncos better be prepared for the return match up. kc will be pissed.

    Welcome to COOPersville PNG Bronco.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Just to clarify the orange jersey thing, if the Broncos inform the NFL that we wish to go to orange jerseys by March 1st, we will be able to wear them for the 2012 season, so unless we don’t have a season next year it will be a while so we have to learn to win with the navy blue/orange uniforms for now, just saying.

Remember when we never won a superbowl with the orange jerseys, and we switched to navy blue/orange and we immediately won our first two super bowls. I wonder what Elway and all the guys who played most of their career here in orange and finished it in navy blue/orange to win 2 SB’s think, it would be interesting to know.

I think the orange thing is mainly hip for the young fans who didn’t get to experience the orange mania on the field in their viewing life and for the old nostalgic fools who think it will be like the old days, but to me it’s been there done that, and I will never forget that the two greatest moments in our franchise, our 2 SB wins, came about with the navy/orange jerseys.

Long story short, I didn’t sign the petition and I’m probably the only one, and I’m fine with that. But seriously, as I’ve already said, I’m cheap and I don’t want to have to buy my ninth jersey to keep up with the Joneses.
However if we go orange of course I will fork over the dough to purchase a brand new beautiful orange/navy jersey, because be aware it is not an orange jersey like the old one, very bright and pure orange and no other color than the names and #’s, now it’s kind of an ugly burnt orange reminiscent of the Longhorns even so not that brownish, with big navy strips on it.

So if we really go to an orange jersey I say improve it. Make it real loud, make a statement, we’re loud and we’re coming at you, warning/caution orange signs all over the field type of thing. Blind the opponents with it! That’s my way of looking at it, always trying to look in a little deeper as usual, sorry for driving you guys crazy….

  25. rebelbronco says:

Bay, Elway said in an interview that he hated the new uniforms when they came out. I’m sure they grew on him and the other boys after back to back wins. I have to say I was a little weired out by them as well when they first came out. I’m with you though, I like the navy jerseys and hope we stick with them. If we want to do an orange out once or twice a year at home, why not just bring out the real orange crush throwbacks. Every other team bust out the throwbacks once or twice a year. The last time we wore our orangecrush unies was against Dallas in 99 or 2000, I can’t remember which year exactly. I had heard that Shanahan was mad because we almost let Dallas come back and beat us that game. So, he told them they didn’t deserve to wear that uniform with a performance like that, and we have never seen then since :(

Please beat SD on Monday night. Go Broncos!!!

  26. strandoftds says:

Good point Bay. My prediction to the game is Bronco`s sqeek one out 24-23.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

There is no doubt in my mind that the original orange Broncos uniforms were way nicer than the ones worn today, the orange stripes look kind of ok on the navy jerseys, but the navy stripes on the orange ones do not, at least to me, but best thing about the old ones was the brightness of the orange, real flashy, almost fluorescent while today’s is dull.

All that said I think it was great to see that McD is taking a serious interest in our colors now, maybe like a sign that he is truly starting to put his N-E years behind him, at least I can hope.

Actually it is Dave Krieger from the DP who brought it out of him at a press conference, this is how it all went down:

“Josh,” I say, “all X’s and O’s aside, isn’t it becoming obvious your team plays better when it wears orange?”

    McDaniels seems momentarily confused.

“When it wears orange jerseys?” he asks.

I nod, knowing we’re on the same page now.

“I love the orange jerseys,” he says. “I know we’re only allowed to wear them twice in the regular season and once in the preseason unless we make that our standard uniform. But I think our guys kind of like wearing the orange. I like the orange. But that decision to make that our permanent uniform is going to come from Pat (Bowlen).”

I don’t think he means it to come out quite the way it sounds — as if that decision is coming any day — but I press my advantage.

“Would you join a citizen campaign?” I ask.

“I love to wear the orange, I do,” McDaniels says. “I wouldn’t mind it at all. I think you’re right, we kind of get excited. Everything, from when you walk in the locker room, it looks different when you’ve got all the orange jerseys and all that. It wouldn’t bother me at all.”

  28. O&BinCostaRica says:

The orange jerseys are more in tune with the identity of the team. The Orange Crush had that name for a reason. We all bleed orange and blue… not blue and orange.

I love the Orange Jerseys. BRING THEM BACK.

  29. CarnageBronc says:

@baylin was letting you know I hadn’t left the site after a win (just been hit by the moderator bug) Still at the store but not buying…down with censorship

  30. baylinorcrush says:

10-4, thanks for the heads up.

  31. Yovi21 says:

so..I had a thought, I thought it would be nice if our defense could kick the crap out of cry baby Rivers and limit the chargers passing game, I really don’t want him to have a shot at league MVP. He really doesn’t deserve it!

    GO BRONCOS!!!
    (especially our D)

  32. strandoftds says:

I much prefer the old Orange myself. I`m old school.

  33. oldsouthstander says:

At the start of the season I put the upcoming SD game as a loss. Reality is that Rivers is playing head and shoulders above the rest of the QBs with starting WRs that weren’t even on their PS at the start of the season. Our defense doesn’t look strong enough to hold him totally in check.
    Chargers 38-23
All I’m asking for is that they play as though they were Tom Jackson no matter what the score.

  34. Dawk2024 says:

If we can hit Rivers a couple times early, it will get in his head and he will start crying to his line about how they arent doing their job and that is when it falls apart for them

  35. mark_cooper says:

BBTO…Bring Back The Orange. :o ) I want baylinorcrush to have to fork over the dough…hee hee, you really have eight jerseys?? You’re my hero. Have to ask, who’s on your 8 jerseys. This could be telling to the whole blog world here.

I go on the Mac and Doog show every Tuesday and we do about a 10-15 minute rap on the game and they’d like to see orange and they’re not old guys. Creates a presence!!!

I love the idea…here’s why. ORANGE stands out on the stadium and makes it a sea of orange versus the blue. HOME field advantage is more clear especially when we see so many folks wear the opposing teams jersey to the games since we are a melting pot of folks from all over the country. Wouldn’t you agree. Believe me I like it, it’s good for my business but I don;t like it at the game so the orange would drown out all the other jerseys and make them feel overwhelmed and out of place. Home Filed Advantage has to mean something, feel like something, look like something and that would help. Think of what that would look like on TV and from an areial shot of the stadium. SEA OF ORANGE.

The other reason is the new stadiums JUST not as loud as the prior, period. So the look might create more energy by the fans…I love it!!

Anyway, I have to make a comment about you all this week…you sound like bunch of homers :o )….you know I’m teasing. This has been a crazy year and it’s not over and that’s what makes this team so much fun to watch and talk about. Your emotins after the RAIDER game and your comments here and the passion you have for the game is awesome and I compliment you for your insight.

I get a great perspective from all of you because I look at the game quite different and I comment on the game from a different persective, kinda of from the inside the lines out versus the overall game. Sometimes I miss things during the game because I isolate on footwork or hands or scheme or the coverage and which way they roll it or mix it up.

Not much about Tebow this week. Wut up? Only camharland, beastfrom theeast and 07 elway made any mention. Have to be happy for him. Baby-steps.

Welcome PNG and thanks mondono (TOP) the kids had smiles and wide eyes after the game.

    BBTO………!!!!

    Coopster

  36. 07elway says:

lol, would be real sweet to have our home games look like a sea of orange. Half the time they already do cuz so many people still wear it. So Coopster… did you sign the petition??? hmmmm If I go check out the petition list, I better find your name. I say if you sign it so should baylin, but it would be funny to see him fork over the $100 like he said.

Very happy for Tebow. He’s getting some reps in his rookie year but when that kid gets his REAL first shot at orchestrating this offense, he is going to explode onto the scene. Thing is, if it took McD 9 games to let him throw his first pass, let alone his first passing TD… who knows when we’ll really see Tebow in action. Pretty good chance we’ll see a lot more of him next season, if we have one (God willing).

    Have faith Bronco Country…
    GO BRONCOS in 2010!!!!

  37. monodono says:

    COOP!
I have a question for ya, what would Tebow’s passer rating be if they could calculate it? Hehee…
I didn’t hear your thoughts on The OLine. I felt they played thier best game since Coach McDaniels took over. It seems all the focus in the media has been on the ball handling positions, but I believe it all starts at the Line. Don’t get me wrong Moreno had a spectacular game but there were huge holes for Him to get to full speed all day. COOP what in your opinion has changed? or am I just getting to excited.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  38. baylinorcrush says:

    Ok, here you go Coop:

Half the jerseys I own are Elway’s jerseys (4), one from like 1984 that I still wear when we sport the new orange jerseys but it’s not the right orange, one with the 86 superbowl patch and one with the 87 super bowl patch for collection purposes, all of those original Bronco orange of course, and one navy/orange from 1997.

In navy/orange also got a TD, a Rod Smith and a Cutler, please don’t laugh, at least I never bought a Griese, LOL.

And my latest in navy/orange in what I thought would be my last one for a while, a personalized “TWELFTH MAN” #00 which was a stroke of genius to never be outdated until you smart guys put up a petition out there to change jersey color!!!

See, my biggest superstition is that I have to wear a jersey for every single game, no matter where I watch it and the key part is it has to be a current team jersey with a current player on the team and I have done that since 1984. Now with what I think was a brain storming idea with my 12th man jersey, I thought I was finally set for years, well NOOOO, now you want to flip the colors on me!!! So if they do change jersey, the next one I’ll buy is a 12th man for sure in whatever new color and style they’ll come up with and hopefully all you guys will be happy and leave me and my finances in peace, LOL.

PS: As you can tell I never owned an away jersey, first off that would be bad luck since it’s not the good luck home sweet home jersey, second they are white so it really would show all my beer spills, haha. And I ‘d have to buy even more jerseys, IT’S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

  39. monodono says:

    COOP!
denverbroncos.com blog just posted Tebow’s passer rating at 118.8 I thought there was a minimum amount of passes to calculate it. Funny.

  40. mark_cooper says:

HA!! BEST in the league…wut up? 118.8 that’s a classic…good stuff and baylinorcrush that’s a great story I hope folks don’t miss it or I’ll point them back….that’s funny stuff with the 12th man jersey…smart move…or was. I was out of town over the weekend, WHERE do I find the petition?? :o )

P.S. can’t go there but you know the jersey I’m laughing about. Might get me in trouble.
