Doom & Buck Show week 2

September 21st, 2009 - 8:59am by mark_cooper

First, congrats have to go out to Shannon Sharpe and his induction into the Ring of Fame. Probably the best tight-end to ever play the game. Congrats Shannon!! Nice work buddy and……….parachuting onto the field……….what are you crazy? :o ) That was a classic.

Second, to Mr. Bowlen for hosting such a nice Alumni Weekend event. First class all the way. That speaks volumes about him and the organization. I’m proud to say I played for him. Most teams across the league don’t have an event like that and Mr. Bowlen doesn’t have to put it on, but he does and the camaraderie and the spirit continues in Broncomania land, promise. Lots of old stories and laughs were shared and we have an opportunity to see guys we haven’t seen in years, sometimes. Wonderful event. Thank you Mr. Bowlen.

GAMETIME: DOOM: four sacks + one forced fumble, Buck toting the rock for 76 yards and Moreno for 75 yards. No turnovers and Orton throwing to everybody and their brother all over the field….eight different receivers. Kinda reminds you of the Patriots, huh? By the way, that’s not a bad thing, because offenses that work get copied and improved every year in high school, college and the pros.

Hmmm, improvement??? You bet. that’s what we like to see and with games like that, we have improvement with a new offense and on D….YES…..a D that is holding down the running game of the opponent. Boy, I liked what I saw.

Total net yards of 449 to 200? That tells the story along with the efficiencies we had versus Cleveland and turnovers and TOP……….Monodono?? TIME OF POSSESSION, where you at. :o ) Tell me, what caught your eye and what your favorite play of the game was??

gary bronc, why don’t you tell us how you REALLY feel? LOL.
However, I am totally on your side, so are many of us. Like I always say the ones who still bash Orton today are Cutler lovers who are still bummed over the trade and they can’t let go. They were Cutler fans, not Bronco fans.

Baylinorcrush… really enjoyed reading your breakdown on “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. It was accurate and right on the money !

  3. baylinorcrush says:

royalbroncofan1, glad you got to read it, many bloggers come on and just post without really reading what’s going on in the blog. Hard to have any kind of communication with these guys. Before I post, I catch up with the blog so I can carry a meaningful conversation without repeating everything that’s just been said. That just gets to be annoying. Wishing everyone figures out where the blog is at before jumping in, it would save us the repetitions and get us out of idling and into forward, know what I mean?

Even so the good, the bad and the ugly was posted on a different blog, the Rice one, I took this as an opportunity to vent my frustration over reading the same points made by some bloggers that are basically the same as other bloggers just expressed on the same page!!! Just a waste of time, and nobody will read it, because they just did already.

    Same, same, same = boring…

    Hey guys,

I agree with everything you have said so far, including the good, bad, and ugly piece for Rice’s blog. Good stuff.

Yeah, and I agree about the Cutler/Orton controversy, and I don’t think it will be settled until December when we can look at the wins and losses, TD’s and INT’s. I was attached to Cutler, I liked the pick and really hoped he would be the cornerstone of the franchise, but you can’t change people, and he was not buying into being a Bronco. His choice. I always liked Orton for one reason: he’s a winner. He wins football games. As a rookie, he came in for Rex Grossman and helped them win 10 games..without putting up pretty numbers. In fact, some of his numbers were ugly, and he made some mistakes, but when the game was on the line was when he excelled. He didn’t force the big interception. So far, the difference between Cutler and Orton comes down to one play last season, Broncos playing the Chiefs. Cutler is chased out of the pocket to the left, and has Tony Scheffler rumbling down the field, wide open, running a deep seam route. Had Cutler thrown him the ball, it would have been a solid 30-35 yard gain at least, and a first down. Instead, Jay Cutler winds up and puts everything he has into a 50 yard bomb to the RIGHT side of the field trying to find a double-covered Brandon Marshall, and the ball is easily intercepted. I wanted to pull my hair out, especially after seeing the replay. That’s the kind of thing Orton will NOT do this year, and that’s the biggest reason I’m glad he’s on our team.

What are your thoughts, Baylinor and RoyalBroncofan?

  6. Paddy_909 says:

Well I didn’t see the game live because we only get one maybe two Broncos games per year in New Zealand but I always watch highlights. I like Stokley, he is the 12th best WR this year lets hope he keeps that up! Best play was Buckhaulters TD run IT WAS AWESOME

  7. mark_cooper says:

WOW!!!! YOU’RE BACK and in rare form……LOVE IT!!

I agree we need DOOOOOMM in Dumervil at the Stadium pronounced better….didn’t see the Fins/Colts game so missed the wildcatting you mentioned.

Orton…..geeez, I agree, give the guy a break will ya and some time. I can personally tell you how tough a new offense is to get at a linemans angle, let alone a QB’s position. You have to give him some time and we have plenty coming and the BULK of the schedule: Cowboys/Steelers/NE/Giants/Colts/Ravens/KING KONG you name it, we GOT IT. :o )

No excuses but plenty to improve on and be glad we get to start slow. BDawk will hit you huh!! fun to watch and we have plenty of weapons so I’m still excited.

I can tell you are toooooo…… BY THE EXCHANGES EARLY and thanks darnstrong for the video link to Shannon (see above folks) CLASSIC Shannon, gotta love it. Crazy nut.

Lotta familiar names out there and thanks for chimming in…you all make this work and I love the different thoughts

RAIDER WEEK BABY………..man I use to love this week and the games. La..la..Lester Hayes and you know what I mean by that if you’ve been around…he use to studder and he was dirty as dirty can be….look in the dictionary and you’ll see his picture….so we were dirty back. Bishop clashing with Alzado in a slugfest once or twice…BIG Ted hendricks with knuckles that drug on the ground because his arms were so long “The Stork” was his nickname, Howie…what a tough *&%#^ guy to block. Got me and others a few times with a rip/armbar and we’d trap him inside because he came up the field so fast. Pssst, by the way the best cheerleaders in the league…sorry had to go there for a minute :o )

Big Matt Millen crying about being cut blocked and telling the refs we were holding him all the time…imagine that a linebacker 265 pounds crying about being blocked :o ( booo hooo

Playing there was like Halloween on steroids…freaks and all nasty fans. But that made a win sooooo much more gratifying and we got them a majority of the time. I’m kinda getting carried away huh?? nah!!

    LOVE RAIDER WEEK….watch halloween early!!

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Coop, only a player like yourself can make us feel what it was like to play the Raiders. Great insights, thanks. Can’t wait… for Halloween. LOL.

  9. mark_cooper says:

Lots of BOOGEY Men and women in the stands….actually it’s like a side show all of it’s own…pretty funny…………..you can see what costume you might want to choose in a few weeks. :o )

  10. McDan Dare says:

Every time I watch football I am amazed at the outstanding ability of so many players on all the teams, it is what makes football great, and so any win is a massive achievement.

I am glad to have found this blog because to have contact with a Bronco Alumni like Mark Cooper is rewarding. Your comments on Mr Bowlen’s generosity in looking after all our veteran players is pleasing to see and I think the camaraderie generated helps to make the Bronco’s family the best in football. Long may it continue.

As for Kyle Orton, he comes across as a naturally gifted QB, very intelligent and playing the odds to keep risks to a minimum. I feel he is only going to get better as his confidence grows. Nolan’s defense has been a revelation and, once again, I can see them progressing throughout the season. As others have said, a great defense is essential in winning championships.

The best play – any one of Doom’s sacks – just love his ability and endurance.

  11. thundersrevenge says:

I found out that Raider fans are not actually in costume! Al Davis paid them to come to a game so he would have fans for his team about fifty years ago and they haven’t left! I guess being stuck in a stadium without leaving for that long will do some gruesome things to your appearance:)

  12. raidrhadr says:

Hey everybody….raider week…I can’t wait to see the Broncos whoop thier butts tomorrow. They’re weak on offense…we will expose thier defense….shut them down in the field position game and as monodono says….dominate time of possession….we will shed the bright orange light into the black hole…confuse Jamarcus Russell (as if he isn’t already)…we will stand behind our QB and watch him pick apart thier secondary…cram the rock down thier throats with C-buck and Knowshon…physically dominate for 60 minutes…and after they are bloody and battered…the Broncos emerge victorious. Woo Hoo!!!

There’s nothing like this matchup. Good bad or indifferent….raider week brings a special excitement that really can’t be described. I hope you’re all as pumped for this game as I am.

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

  13. thundersrevenge says:

Well said raidrhadr!!!! for something that can’t be described, I think you captured the Bronco sentiment quite well.

“After they are bloody and battered..the Broncos emerge victorious.”

    Good show!!

  14. raidrhadr says:

Thanks thunder….it just came flowing out…..and nearly prophetic too….maybe I should post some rah rah philosophical crap every week. What a great road win for our boys. No one and I mean NO ONE would have said we’d be/have:

    3-0
    be +6 in turnovers
lead the league in sacks (10 shared with 2 other teams)
have a QB that has not turned the ball over
Have an offense and defense both ranked in the top 10.
Have an excellent rushing attack….and best of all
the #1 Defense in the league!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

We are allowing 5.3 points per game…16 total so far…..the next best are the jets who have allowed 33 total.

I have been ending my posts with The Orange Crush Lives since training camp started…..do we believe?….hell yes we do! Get ready to start the DOOOOM! chant in Mile High!!! Bring on them cowgirls!!!

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

  15. thundersrevenge says:

    YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE seeing the Raiders look that bad all while the Broncos were looking that good!!!!!!!

    Awesome D!!!! 2 RB’s with 100 yards each!!!!!! 2 TD’s in the air!!!!!!

Watch out Dallas, our sights are set on YOU!!!!!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!
