Decker Day

September 18th, 2011 - 5:40pm by mark_cooper

Was that Eric Decker or a reenactment of Ed McCaffrey….Decker baby, we love you brother, go man go!!!! Nice job and proving to be the go to guy beside Lloyd. Great compliment for the passing attack.

Lots of good stuff and still a few holding calls and off-sides calls on the O-line BUT much better run blocking and McGahee ran for 101 yards. Basically the offense you’d expect from Coach Fox.

The first drive was basically flawless and got me pretty excited. Run and pass combinations all the way down the field. So with 5 guys out we played very well…baby steps right?

Got to give credit to Orton for controlling the game and we got to see #15 as a decoy basically…maybe we see more of that and some trickery in the future. Got ya thinking, don’t I???

Did radio last week on 1510 AM on the Mac & Doog show and I’m so sick of the controversy so let’s just let the chips fall and see where we end up this season at the QB spot and focus on getting better as a team overall….we need more progress at more spots to get into the thick of the schedule coming. Like I said, You and I saw some REAL GOOD things today and we can fix what we did wrong.

P.S. Nice punt by Colquitt about 82 yards to be called back…bummer :o (

Love to see your feedback as always.

Yeah Coop Decker made up for our depleted receiving corps, but i’m most happy with our run game, keeping the D honest.

    DECKER!!!!!!

  3. 07elway says:

Right on Coopster, it was most certainly Decker Day!! Love this guy!! 2 HUGE touchdowns and so fun to watch on the field. There will never be another Ed McCaffrey but Decker is almost a mirror image and is most definitely doing that #87 jersey justice.

So proud of our defense at the end shutting down Cincy, getting that huge sack (game saver) and continuing to fight, not giving up. They sent the Bengals packing, loved it!! That’s how its supposed to be done.

First road game next Sunday… that will be interesting to say the least.
    GO BRONCOS 2011!!!!

  4. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Decker did have the spirit of ‘white lightning’ going for him today lol.

  5. 07elway says:

    lol, yeah he did.

  6. broncosfreak30 says:

Well guys, I was exactly right with my AFC West win projections this week!!! I predicted Chiefs, Chargers, and Raiders all lose and we win!!! Awesome predictions and outcome for Week 2!!! We played a very good game considering we had our 3 BEST players out in Lloyd, Doom, and Bailey! We got picked apart in our secondary, let’s just hope that all of our guys are back for the Titans game! The titans looked great today!! We’re going to need all of our guys healthy, it’s definitely not going to be a gimme game!!

Sorry to say Bay, but glad you were wrong with your score prediction of our game (I think you predicted us to lose if I’m not mistaken, and if you predicted us to win then I guess I got your name confused with someone elses!) Loved getting that win today baby!! Now let’s go to the Titans and perform like we did last year against them at their home!!

  7. TheBroncoGator says:

Decker is showing Thomas how its done while he waits to heel up. Our passing game will only get better hopefully once everyones healthy and when the TE’s start gettin more involved. Hope Royal is ok!

  8. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Yeah I think Fox just held a lot of players back from playing this game in order to heal a little bit, I don’t think he wanted to send in guys with a minor injuries just to have them leave this game even more hurt. I can guarantee that he had some ‘show and prove’ words for the backups that were in the starters places.

  9. strandoftds says:

Our defense needs to jell on 3rd and long. It does`nt matter if it`s 3rd and 25 or whatever, the other team gets a first down, wheather a studip penalty or a WR just makes the play. I`m tired of giving up first downs when it`s 3rd and forever, Freaken uncalled for.

  10. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Amen to that strand. I can’t believe how we can give up so many 3rd and long situations.

  11. RabidOrange says:

Boy, it sure is nice to watch a TEAM play and win!! The effort was great. I loved seeing my man Mays step up and make up for last week by laying the wood on Benson. Miller’s awesome sack… Decker rocking #87 style… Dawkins flying around… Ayers with a great sack… That game was actually fun to watch. I knew it was going to be a great day for Broncos Football.

PS: How ’bout them Chiefs? And everyone thought we were going to be the worst. ouch.

  12. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

When we get a sack on second down, or the opposing team get’s penalized and third down and like 12 come up i start calculating in my head ‘ok we can get the ball back here and blah blah blah’ but just as i’m thinking that the opposing team breaks off something big. It is so frustrating! lol

  13. RabidOrange says:

strand, I agree that the 3rd and 23 was a play that should never have gone so long. But I don’t think that we can really complain much about the D’s 3rd down performance today. Cinci was 1-11 on third downs. That’s just 9%! I think the D did a good job on those situations. Plus, that one long one may not have ended up with a TD if Goodman could tackle…

  14. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Yeah it was mostly against the raiders but when I saw that 3rd and long get converted I was fuming.

  15. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

It’s only two games to judge our team by. I just hope we can shut down the 3rd downs like we did today as you pointed out RO.

  16. broncosfreak30 says:

Well guys, I believe the D actually played much better today than last week and we actually had Doom and Bailey and DJ not playing in this game! Our secondary was definitely revealed but I think we will get Lloyd Doom and Bailey back for this next game which will be a huge plus!!! Lots of people thought we would lose with all of our best players hurt and out of the game! I loved it though that the players that we have stepped up and made a name for themselves!!!

LOVE SEEING MY BOY MILLER WITH HIS FIRST NFL SACK!!! 1ST GAME FORCED FUMBLE AND 2ND GAME 1ST SACK!!

  17. austin-bronco says:

posted on the 4th quarter blog: The Bungles were given 4 second half T/O.

  18. caramelloo says:

The thing I was most happy to see was Decker doing the Mile High Salute after he scored. First he request #87 to pay respect to Eddy Mac and then he brings the Salute back!!

  19. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

McGahee also gave a Mile High Salute when he scored, as did did Miller after sacking Dalton!

  20. Mikeyb1203 says:

I for one liked what I saw in the team today. I think if we would of had Bailey and Doom it would have not been as close. I was also hoping that Tebow would get a reception but had a feeling that Orton wouldn’t even look at him.

Not to happy with Orton letting Cincy get back in the game. I also heard someone say Orton was “clutch’ getting a touchdown, I disagree with the clutch he had alot of 3 and outs in the fourth.

We held the Bengals to only 69 yards rushing, big improvement from last week. I hope we pay this well on the defensive line next week. Also hope that we get more pressure and better coverage with the return of Doom and Bailey.

  21. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

austin-bronco: Were they really given a fourth t/o in the second half or was it just posted that way?

  22. Mikeyb1203 says:

Also still way to many holding penalties.

  23. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

I don’t know if any of you remember that game when the Colo. Buffs got an extra down on the goal-line that ended up with them winning that game lol

  24. RabidOrange says:

    ICE CREAM SUNDAES!!!!!

  25. sndvl says:

Congrats to the Broncos, John Elway and John Fox for that first win. May there be many more.
Good thing for the psyche of us fans too!

  26. stevecan2 says:

Just got home, it wasn’t pretty at all. But a win is a win and I think it is time to enjoy it for a little while before getting too analytical.

  27. Mikeyb1203 says:

Also did anyone else notice Robert Ayers stepping up and making big plays would like to see more of that.

  28. stevecan2 says:

Yes, Ayers and Mays both did quite a few things well

  29. RabidOrange says:

    New blog

  30. TheBroncoGator says:

I say the rain and the simple fact that it was mcfadden that hurt our run defense last week. I think we’ll have a good chance of keeping Johnson under 100 yards rushing next week as long as the Big O does their job like early in this game.

  31. broncosfreak30 says:

I was surprised with Ayers but I was MOST surprised with Woodyard! Woodyard is definitely not making DJ Williams be missed too much. He is stepping up for us extremely well and I am really excited knowing that if DJ gets hurt anymore this year or doesn’t play well, which isn’t likely to happen, that Woodyard will be right behind him licking his chops!!

  32. broncosfreak30 says:

    BroncoGator…

Yea, I think in order for us to beat Tennessee, we NEED Doom and Bailey back out!! I hope they get back to practicing this week and also hope Lloyd and DJ gets back out there. I believe that Lloyd will be out there next week with how he practiced before this game. Just think they were wanting him to be 100% before starting again and I am glad that with all of our guys out tonight that we still came out with a win. I bet the Bengals aren’t feeling all that good right about now!

  33. stevecan2 says:

ahh what the heck. I went off last week right away I might as well tonight. To show consistency if nothing else.

    By the numbers for offense:

    Orton
    15 of 25 for 195 yds 2 tds 0 ints.
    McGaheee
    28 rushes for 101 yds 1 td
    Ball
    6 rushes for 28 yds
    Decker
    5 receptions for 113 yds
    WIllis
    2 receptions for 22 yds

    Third down effiency
    5 of 12 first downs 41%
    Red Zone
    1 for 2 with 1 td 0 field goals
    Turnovers
    2 lost fumbles

  34. broncosfreak30 says:

Something that we do need to really fix with our team are the turnovers. We had three turnovers last game and I believe 2 tonight! We have to start getting more turnovers and stop giving them! When we play against these other better teams, we will kill ourselves with turnovers! I would love to see no turnovers in next weeks game and hope to see even a bigger improvement in our team from these last two games!

  35. stevecan2 says:

    The turnovers, were ridiculous.

I don’t attribute the KO fumble solely to him this week though. Those things happen. I am sure the heard will blame the o-line for that one. I see it as, a LT pushed the end behind the pocket. The pocket had not collapsed, and KO should have stepped up, seeing as how his pocket presence is supposed to be impressive. Yet, he was looking down field. If sacked that is called a secondary sack.

Decker fumble I have to watch again. Was it poor ball control or just a heads up play by the CB?

Either way on the Orton fumble, Cincy’s defense gave their offense a golden opportunity to put six up on the board and they walked away with 3. NOTICE a pattern here when the O fails to capitalize on a gimme by the defense. We did the same that Monday night and lost by 3. They lost by 2. This again illustrates why I was so pissed following last weeks loss.

  36. TwoGunz says:

Decker and McGahee Really Stepped it up today, I think they both or either one of them deserved the game ball over Fox. I say we take out Ortan and put in Adam Weber, tired of seein that no emotion robot all flustered and rushing the pass cuz of a little rush. Id honestly be happy with anyone but Ortan, he’s a tit.

  37. TwoGunz says:

  38. broncofan9137 says:

In this blog I would like to thank Eric Decker for showing some spirit & raising his game up to another level. Orton didn’t show any spirit (as usual) & didn’t raise his game up at all. Typical Orton game. If we didn’t have Decker in the game we would have lost because as far as I’m concerned Orton is worthless. Yes Decker did fumble the ball but he made up for it buy scoring two TD’s & with his spirit.

  39. broncofan9137 says:

Here is my prediction for the remainder of the year. 2-12 or 3-11. Hate to say it but looking at the schedule I don’t see the Bromocs winning more than 3 more games.

  40. tnalen66 says:

Thank you Decker , Macgaee !

  41. monodono says:

    COOP!
I think everyone is being a little hard on Orton. I feel He played a pretty good game I saw Him threading the needle multiple times with receivers He hasn’t had much practice with and was successful.
I want to thank Coach McCoy for showing a little faith in His OLine and calling a balanced game. Much better than only 12 running play’s and 46 passing play’s In The Rain!
Next week will be a much tougher game for the OLine with that relentless pass rush the Titans have.
The OLine still made a lot of mistakes especially on the interior but as you said COOP these things can and I believe they will improve.
The Denver Broncos should’ve dominated The Bangles but just squeeked by, so I’m going to keep my cautious optomism and hope for the best next week.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  42. kearly37 says:

Right on the mark as usual, Coop!

It was great seeing McGahee, Decker and Miller making huge plays and then snapping off Mile High Salutes. Nice to see everyone step up and play hard for 60 minutes – that’s been missing in the past. I know there were a lot of mistakes with all the new guys and only the second real game in DA’s system on defense, but you can’t complain at all about the effort. If we can get some guys healthy and keep them that way, I think we can be competitive against anyone.

BTW – did anyone notice how fast that game went? All those running plays sure eat some clock!

Aside for all of the positives, I know the young DB’s still have lots of work to do and the offense needs to do a better job of taking care of the ball but, all in all, a great win – one that we can all be extremely proud of.

    Cheers, Broncos!

  43. kearly37 says:

…and, I couldn’t agree more with monodono – KO is taking way too much heat from fans considering he had only 2 healthy receivers by the end of the game. I know that the 4th quarter was a bit scary, but I think that was more about conservative play-calling by McCoy in an effort to run the clock. Still, you’d think we’d lost the way some people are Orton-bashing..

  44. broncofan9137 says:

If we would have had anyother QB we would have won by 20 pts. instead of 2 pts. Again he sucked in the red zone, two bad passes & a sack for holding on to the ball to long.

  45. Carsonic says:

I watched a bit of the Steelers game and saw a play we could run to perfection with Tebow as receiver – a double reverse WR pass. And he could even have the option to keep it and run. That would be awesome.

  46. mark_cooper says:

TwoGunz…agree on the ORANGE JERSEYS 100%, WE WANT THEM BACK!!! and broncofan9137…2-12…not much faith there?? come on, I see 2 KC wins and 3 others (if) we can get healthy.

Healthy worries me a bit…Groins and Hamstrings are tough injuries that can/will linger all year. It was interesting to see Coach Fox talk about more injuries “league-wide” is what he said and we talked about that here all preseason and it’s coming true…bummer. Kind of proves how important OTA’s and also how this new CBA may effect injuries with the limited number of hitting practices built in.

Mondono, T.O.P. and a balanced attack buddy…totally agree…that’s what Coach Fox promised and hopefully we can keep delivering. Headed up to Basalt to fish the Roaring Fork and Colorado Friday and Saturday in my charity event…looks like we’ll raise about $50K for Cystic Fibrosis.

On a side note, 07elway, you were proposed to by more than one of the knuckleheads here on this blog…I think last year??? Did you ever accept any of those invitations. Not sure how I remembered that but it came to me while reading your post and also how funny that was.

So?? IS the Mile High Salute Back?? I like it!!

    Coopster

  47. 07elway says:

lol @ Coop… only came back to this blog to see what you had to say to our responses and that totally threw me off. Too funny.

Not sure about proposals but I got a few compliments, etc. Nothing to really accept in the first place. It was pretty funny & flattering.

Have a good fishing trip & congrats on raising all that money for a good cause!! Hopefully you’ll have that good outcome!

Mile High Salute is definitely back… fun to see several players do that in the game against Cincy. Would love to see them do that in a road game, lol!

GO BRONCOS 2011!!!! Later Coopster ;)

  48. monodono says:

    COOP
Some day I will join you in Basalt for that event, have fun and Rip some Lip’s!
