Chicago Bears and I like the deal. I was out of the country in Marsh Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas, all weekend at a Charity bonefishing tournament and was asked all weekend what I thought. It’s included in the article they wrote about me while I was there. Read this and tell me if you agree. I’m certain some of you won’t and will be a little upset, but, it’s what I think and see.

Otherwise, there are some other articles that have been sent to me that are also worth reading and Mondono posted a bunch worth reading in the prior post here.
Here’s one from a Bears fan out of their local paper:
You may need to cut and paste them into your browser.
Coop

Coop what is your opinion on who got the better deal? I like Orton, though I’ve heard he’s had his problems with alcohol. I’m wanting to say we did, but it really hard to say until next year not knowing who were going to draft and whether they’re a bust. As a side note I’m glad the Raji testing positive for marijuana rumors were that. just rumors with no truth in them.
Well I just wanted to come on here and say hi to you Coop. Hope that charity event went well… as well as your little fishing excursion.
I’m so sick of this subject… no more comments from me til this subject is off everyone’s mind. I’m annoyed by this, frustrated, mad, furious, angry… you name it. And the thing is I can’t escape this… didn’t expect to but just when I forget about this whole thing… BAM, there it is again. Best that I don’t get started on this subject, trust me I’ll never shut up about it.
I still think this whole Orton thing is pretty comical for us, this particular organization. Still think we’ve only begun another long search for a solid QB… I dread that thought because it frustrated me to no end in the 8 years it took us to land someone with talent. So now I’m going to stop myself… on the verge of starting a very very long novel I wouldn’t even read.
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ‘09!!!!
The Broncos got good value for Cutler in my opinion. His physical talent was rare so the lose was great and this situation was handled poorly by all parties involved. As far as articles posted by the media , I don’t think any of them are worth reading as I have completely lost faith in sports reporters. If the pinochio syndrome was in effect, I think many Bronco employees (current and former) and members of the media would have very long noses. This topic needs to be put to rest.
So, 07elway, I’ve been going around asking everyone about how they feel about the Cutler trade. Erhm, I’d like to have your thoughts on this whole situation, if you don’t mind.
Ha! Good one SBBB.
Elway07, I know Shanahan and Cutler are the only things you’ve ever known, but gee whiz, I would have hated to see you in the early/late 80’s. You know, being a Broncos’ Fan was even tough with Elway. He had losing seasons, too. We lost 3 Super Bowls with Elway, and not just lost, but were just plain embarressed. So lighen up. We still have 2 quarterbacks that have won their respective divisions, a good O line, a defense that’s shaping up, 10 picks in the draft, if we take care of the ball, and everyone does their job, we’ll win games. Let Culter go.
Hey, Coop. Hope all is well with you. Enjoyed your blogs during the season.
Yeah that was a pretty good comment SBBB… made me laugh though. That little blurb of mine was only the beginning of something I won’t finish.
And SBXXXII - I hear ya, I really do. I don’t want to get too into this… will defeat my whole purpose of no more comments till we stop talking about this. Like I said I’m annoyed by all of this drama. Lucky for me though I was too little to really remember seeing Elway play on TV but believe me I know of the troubles we dealt with at the beginning of his career and the heartache we suffered in those SBs. Not to dwell on it but that one Super Bowl we had against Washington… OUCH!!!! One thing to watch it but to live it… my head would implode! I know Cutler was the QB for us so having to force myself to move on from that state of mind… not very easy for me. And I’ll live… I think… but I’ll always wonder “what if”. I’m still keeping his jersey and his fathead I got… good memories!!
And see, if I was really that torn about this whole thing I’d be like other so-called “fans” and not be a Bronco fan anymore… but I’m like that, I’m still here for this team 110%… make that 1 million percent. I’ve always said like many of you have that I’m am and always have been and always will be a Broncos fan first but I really believed in that kid.
See now here I go… just me venting but this could go on and on. We have got to move on from this topic. I’m gonna lose my mind!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ‘09!!!!
07Elway i hear ya somwwhat I’m definitly tired of the hole CUtler thing but I’m happy its all over and now we can move on!!
Hey Cutler Wade Philips had better record in his 2 years as HC and a playoff appearance than Shanny did in his first year and no one freaked out at his first season of 8-8.Cutler quit on the team when shanny was fired. You might want to change your name or your team.I know Crybaby#1
cutler#1 We don’t need your negativaty I know this site is for expressing your opinion but You need to move on we have the draft coming up we need to be focus on that. Not on calling the coach names like a two year old He or coach like it or not he calling the shots. So all the crying in the world is not going to change that
cutler#1 how bout the fact tha we have a qb with a better rating in the 2 min drills. orton was 101 jay was in the 80’s so u need to give the man credit. i wanted jay to stay but jay made the final decision he betrayed us by not comin to practice, BUT ortons already there so hes earned my respect
All I know, fellow denizens of Bronco Country, is Mr. Bowlen is the impetus of all of our success. He purchased the team in 1984 and proceeded to save them from possible relocation. In his span, we’ve won two championships and been among the best teams in the NFL. If you don’t believe me, check out the stats in the upcoming seasons’ NFL Record & Fact Book. As for the quarterbck situation, come on Orton, you can get the job done. GO BRONCOS!!!
Coop, great to hear from you.
When all is said and done and the upcoming season starts and ends, it will still be the Denver Broncos and I will still be a fan. I survived the team quiting on Wade Phillips, I survived the 4 superbowl losses, I survived watching Elway and a host of others retire, I survived watching some of my favorites play for other teams and even win rings for them. If we stop and think this through, this situation is only a speed bump in what a franchise has to travel over to reach whatever destination it reaches and the organization just put the Broncos in a better position for success.
The one thing I wanted to see our new coach bring to this team is that no one player is better than the system, and guess what, the one player that felt himself above it all is gone. I will root for our players the same I have for the last 32 years and will be happy as hell if they beat the Raiders both games this year.
This team is nothing without cutler. I have never been more sick to my stomach as a broncos fan. Maybe we will find another capable qb ten years from now and build a team around him cause that is how long it took since elway. Until then it will just be more of the same dissapointing, cumbersome seasons. I am ashamed to be a fan of this team
ftball_player77….
Ashamed to be fan of this team???? Sounds like you were more of a fan of Cutler than the team! I, as is the true fans, more proud of this team now than ever!
I am a Cutler fan. But in the end he’ll be long gone and forgotten. Players come, players go - but teams last forever - in our hearts, in our memories.
If there is any team a fan would be ashamed about it would be the Lions, and for someone to say they’re ashamed to be a fan when there is just a little bit of trouble… that just tells the rest of us you are no true fan. And it is a slap in the face to all of the ‘real’ fans of this team! Go find another “fan wagon” to jump onto. The Steelers are good - go root for them!
Just my opinion!
Well said broncs55.
Hey coop, hows your take on Orton and Simms? I like Orton, he is no big star but could be or at least be ok for our team. Simms, well he has not had much of a chance to show anything ie his injury. He also could be a hidden jewel?
broncbeat,
I actually have grown up and currently live in Chicago. Orton is a really good quarterback. He has pocket presence, he knows how to manage the clock and he’s extremely accurate with quick good decisions.
He does not have a rocket like Cutler, but he knows how to work a defense and continue making first downs. He keeps his own Defense off the field (which is what we need), eats away the clock, and continues to march on.
The Bears are growing on me as they are my wife’s fav. team. But since I’ve had family within the Broncos Organization since practically I was born in 82 - I will always be a die hard Broncos fan first.
Unfortunalty I dont get to see them play as often as I see the local team in my state - but I am confident in Orton as I’ve seen him play. He is also extremely supportive of his team, knows how to play as a team and does not try to be a 1 man show unlike Cutler was.
We’ll all be happy with him here, just wait and see
Thanks broncs55. I look forward to see him in our offence. I know how you feel about the local team/tv is. I lived in seattle in 05. Had a hard time getting to watch the Broncos there. With that and the weather, Im lucky to make it back to Colorado alive. It is the suicide capt.
WOW, where is the link to that info???
In Chicago, Orton had no one to throw to, yet he still posted some pretty good numbers. He’s savvy, he’s still young, he’s got a good grasp of what to do when under pressure, and he’s not a quitter. Simms is a reliable back-up. Just hope his health holds up. McDaniels will utilize our very talented receivers by creating openings for them that even I could complete a flutter-ball to. This is going to be one heck of an exciting season…provided we keep all of our RBs from joining the IR list again. We still don’t have a great RB, but McDaniels doesn’t seem to need one to get his offensive scheme to work. Good RBs interchanging regularly to keep fresh seems to work for him. I’m happy.
Denver will trade up in the draft to get Sanchez, the waivering of Hackney just made it apperent that denver is going for a QB in the Draft. Orton has a Winning record!!! so in that case Denver should start him under McDanniels Coaching who knows? Maybe hes the next Steve Young or Bret Farve??? both guys came from other teams in the beggining of there Careers then tossed aside. this is Football anything can happen, just look on what happened last year! no one could have predicted the outcome of the 08 Season. no sports writer nothing so fighting over a a Great QB that hassnt proven himself as a team player! Google Deion Sanders bashes Cutler for that info on youtube. Serious Orton will be fine Sims will be fine, Denver hassnt had a Bad QB yet, Decent ones yes, Brister, Griese, Plummer, we will be fine, thats why the Game is played, to see what happens and to be there when it does!
BLEED ORANGE AND BLUE!!!! GO BRONCOS!!!!
Over it… lets move on report on something positive aye Coops? No disrespect to you but lets leave this dead horse of a subject and move on.
If we all put emotion aside and looked at the X’s & O’s we’d see we have one of the best O-lines in the league and who ever is behind that line is going to have success with the receivers we have and thats what a TEAM is all about.
TEAM is the name of the game. Elway never got it done until he had a better compliment of players….correct me if I’m wrong…..I’m not.
Same today, we need a better defense not the #1 offense on the league. That’s what I believe we’ll see in the draft. It might take 2 years but we’ll get there. Patientbronco said it best. I had to laugh because I feel the same way. As long as we beat the Raiders both times, I’m a pretty happy Broncos fan! :o)
If we improve the defense and get some turnovers and can get our offense on the field and then like Mondono says (Time of Possession) we get some more of that, we’ll improve overnight.
I was suprised I didn;t get any feedback on the comments I made to ESPN over the weekend. I posted them here as I’m curious how you feel about today’s players and the fans.
QUOTE OVER THE WEEKEND:
“It’s a little sad for the general sports fan and most importantly, the kids who follow the game,” Cooper said. “Athletes just aren’t as accessible as they used to be. It’s definitely a detriment to the game. The perception is that today’s athlete just doesn’t feel the need to give something back.”
Cooper is a realist and while his opinion might not be popular with today’s player, like it or not, there is a growing perception that professional athletes are less invested in the fan base. Most recent example is Jay Cutler, ex-Broncos quarterback, which obviously hits very close to home for Cooper. “I’m glad he’s gone,” said Cooper, who is quite likely the largest man to ever pick up a fly rod. “The problem with the way he acted was he let down his teammates. He is supposed to be a leader but quite frankly he doesn’t have leadership qualities. He acted extremely childish.”
Curious on your take?
Right on!! Can you imagine what guys like Ray Nitchki (sp?), Dick Butkus, Alax Karras and others of that era would have done to T.O., Chad Johnson or any of the other current prima donnas? If they still were allowed on the team, they’d be acting a whole lot differently. The “me” attitude of many players is exactly why teams like Dallas that are loaded with talent don’t do squat. Teamwork almost alway beats talent in a team sport. I get this feeling that the Broncos offensive players are going to be a lot more willing to go that extra step for Orton because of his willingness to put the team first. With the killer schedule the Broncos have this year, it is absolutely essential the TEAM come first and every player must be ready and eager to do more for his team that they ever have before. If not, it’s going to be a very long and ugly season.
As to your ESPN quote, yep, today’s players are multi-millionaires and are therefore in a different class than most everyone else. When people get that much money, they are far more concerned about keeping that money and even trying to get more. Not always the case of course. So I agree with you there. I do not, however, agree with your take on Cutler. I won’t expand upon that though, because on this board differing opinions seem to disappear…
well coop don’t hold back, “I’m glad he is gone”. you already know how i feel about cutless.
I want to know about McDaniels, what is his personality? During all of this he had a smile on his face, was that forced? I am sure he heard alot of things as he “walked around town.” IMO he seams to be firm but easy going type, witch is great for a head coach. can’t even fathem what his family went threw.
to prove your point about todays athletes, my son got to drive around THE Joe Montana while he was at Fort Hood TX. ‘for the troops’ but Joe would not even give him a autograph. My son said he was real nice but he was let down a little b/c of his ’stand offishness’. it is hard on youngsters when their Sports Heros turn out to be ….. untouchable, ya thats a good way to say it. On the other side of this, he sat next the great Y A Tital (spelling) on a plain ride and they talked football for the entire trip. when he came home i had to tell him ALL about Y A Tital. he didnot ask for his autograph and to this day I still bug him about it.
COOP! I posted a comment but it didn’t show up and I’m tired, next time. or maybe it will post later.
I’m glad it’s all over, and I personally finally got over the whole Cutler trade… but I still wonder?
Anyone remember #17 Steve Deberg or even #7 Craig Morton as QBs? (God forbid I associate #7 with Craig Morton!!! Heresy!!!)
They kind of reminded me of a Griese or an Orton.
They tried really really really really hard, probably as hard as Plummer, but still not much is remembered. As a foot note Morton got the Broncos to the SB.
Anyone remember the 3 Amigos? Mark Jackson, Vance Johnson and Ricky Nattiel.
Like the rest of these guys, Cutler should only remain an after thought because he never won the big game! I did enjoy the fireworks and big play making. This past years Cleveland game was incredible. Cutler was very very fun to watch, and I was experiencing the edge of seat euphoria of yelling at the TV “Don’t throw it, don’t throw it…” much like I did when I used to watch Elway. Similarly it was either a great throw or an interception. But I loved the moment, regardless. I couldn’t wait for the Broncos game to start. It was like being a kid again waking up to watch Saturday morning cartoons. <>
Bottom line is Cutler’s gone and I’ll miss him. My man crush is crushed!!! Let’s hope Orton can win some games for us and who knows, maybe he can be more of a QB than our last one. I just hope he doesn’t end up another after thought.
I’m bleeding Blue and Orange… and I’m backing #18 Kyle Orton because he deserves the same support I’ve given every QB (including Frerotte & Beuerlein) that has gone through Denver.
Nice post 987654321! Says it all.
it’s funny that “team” appears to go only one way in the Cutler saga; he did a lot for the Denver Broncos and it is amazing how the organization and those paid by it have scapegoated him and some of the fans have been turned on him since he was no longer a favored son of the team
to many of us, it appears that the new coach wanted to abandon Cutler and found a way to do so, embarrassing everyone connected to the Broncos in the process
so, let me respectfully disagree with you and let’s move on in the process and see whether this new coach can put more wins on the board than the Shanahan/Cutler team of last year
ok everyone, including Mark, we are gonna have a good team next year. cutler is gone, nothin we can do about it. we have orton and simms, two proven qbs. we are ok. whoever was in the right or in the wrong doesn’t matter anymore. its over. so stop all this, and think about next year, not cutler and mckid.
bleed orange and blue.
I’m sick of the whole Cutler topic, i’m with everyone who says its over and you can not deny we got a pretty good deal for him. No question replacing his talents wont be easy! We have a couple of average qb’s now but if we can protect the ball and have a decent draft we might be alright. BRONCOFANFORLIFE!!!!!
except the things you can not change, change the things you can. Have the wisdom to know the difference.
COOP!
Thanks for the post! Love the articles! My computer has been down for about four days, Frustrating…
Any way I went to Opening Day at Coors Field what a blast we had, then went down to Fado’s for a few cocktails and The Pilots who did the fly by sat down and had a few with us. Great Guy’s!
Then on sat. I went to The AV’s game against The Canuck’s. Fun! One thing in particular happened at The Pepsi Center I thought was funny. The cameraman zoomed in on some Vancouver Fans who were making some noise and The AV’s Fans BOOOOed them, then the cameraman zoomed in on 5 guys wearing cutler jerseys and The AV’s Fans BOOOOed them even harder!
Coop I didn’t give you any feed back on you comments about the current players and their attitudes because I’m right there with ya. Sometimes when your blog is quiet it’s because everyone agrees.
Yes I’m gonna say it again…
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
Why cant I post?
Coop..I think you may be right. Its an “ME” world out there now. I do not know players personaly, so Im not sure if my opinion is correct. Having said that, It seems that way with some players but not all of them, Im sure. Maybe its just the bad apples in the barrel. It is sad though that kids have to see this and think its OK. Once again its who is bringing up the child to let them know right from wrong, opinions and facts. Go Broncos!
Hey Coop. Been a while since I posted on here. I love reading your blogs and the comments. I read all the time about fans living in different parts of the country and what not. It’s amazing how many fans we have everywhere. I myself live In Calgary, Canada. (Right near the rockies). Almost makes me feel closer to Denver lol And I’ve met a lot of bronco fans around here. I am a diehard fan (have a dog named Broncs) and no trade is going to deter me from being one.
About the Cutler situation….. I really like his abilities. They are great. But I 100% agree with you Coop. He was supposed to be the leader of our team and it seems like he just bailed when we needed leadership the most. He wouldn’t even make an effort to want to be here, seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else all along.
I for one when I heard about the trade talks hoped a team would put up a good enough deal for us to bargain with. I am very happy with what we got and hopefully we bolster our defense in this draft and go for a QB in next years draft (assuming we will want one) when there is a stronger QB class to choose from. And hopefully we can be a better judge of character and bring someone in who wants to be the face of the Broncos organization for years to come.
Sorry if i babbled on too long. Let’s get ‘em in ‘09 Boys
GO BRONCOS
So let’s make the move to draft talks. NEW POST…and thanks for hearing my side.
I know we don’t always agree and we don’t have to that’s what makes this so interesting because often you have a comment or opinion I or and the group may not have thought of….keeps everyone thinking.
